New Bi-Partisan Polling Shows Americans Want National Action on Comprehensive Immigration Reform

Even Supporters of Arizona Law Strongly Favor a National, Comprehensive Approach

WASHINGTON

As
President Obama prepares to meet with Senate Republicans on Tuesday to
discuss prospects for immigration reform and other legislation, new
bi-partisan polling on immigration shows that Americans of all
political persuasions overwhelmingly support national action on
immigration reform, prefer a comprehensive reform approach, and want
the federal government to take action now.

The research,
conducted by Democratic polling firm Lake Research Partners and
Republican polling firm Public Opinion Strategies, also provides
important new perspective on Arizona's new immigration law,
demonstrating that while a majority of voters support the Arizona law,
respondents show much more intense support for comprehensive reform
proposals. Overall, the polling shows strong support for the Arizona
law; stronger support for national action on immigration reform instead
of a state-by-state approach; and strongest support for a comprehensive
immigration reform proposal among several policy alternatives.

On Tuesday May 25th at 10 AM Eastern,
join Celinda Lake and David Mermin from Lake Research Partners, Lori
Weigel from Public Opinion Strategies, and Frank Sharry from America's
Voice as they discuss the poll results, including examining the sub-set
of respondents who favor both AZ SB1070 and comprehensive immigration
reform, and put the results into the larger context of the immigration
reform debate. The polling, which will be released at the time of the
call, includes the responses of 800 registered voters nationwide with
an oversample of 300 Latino registered voters.
