WASHINGTON

Today, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) Co-Chairs Massachusetts AG Maura Healey and Nevada AG Aaron Ford released the following statement regarding the joint session of Congress to certify the electoral college votes.

Statement from Massachusetts AG Maura Healey and Nevada AG Aaron Ford, Co-Chairs of the Democratic Attorneys General Association

"The voters have spoken; they chose Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. In other races, Democrats and Republicans won seats up and down the ballot. This election was free, fair, and accurate."

"Any attempts by Congress or the Vice President to throw out the results in the states--the votes of hardworking Americans--are an affront to the rule of law and an affront to us as Americans. Just as the dozens of lawsuits contesting the election results have failed--these attempts will too."

"The claim by Senator Josh Hawley, a former state Attorney General, and others in Congress that the presidential election process allows Congress--or anyone--to overturn the results is wrong. They know better--and they are choosing to further divide our nation and ignore the Constitution for perceived political gain."

"Regardless of the President's twitter feed, Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as the 49th Vice President of the United States on January 20, 2021."

"Along with a broad coalition of Democratic AGs from around the country, we fought hard to protect access to the ballot and defend the will of the people from the barrage of attacks coming from Trump and his allies. We will continue to stand up for truth, uphold the Constitution, and defend our democratic institutions - and we urge anyone who believes in the power of our democracy and the rule of law to join us in calling out this embarrassing and dangerous stunt."
