Attacks Condemned as Supplies Dwindle and Deaths Rise
Deposed Palestinian prime minister and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh yesterday called for an immediate halt to the Israeli attack on Gaza, lifting of the siege and opening of all crossings.
"This war does not target just Hamas and the government, it is targeting Palestinians and their cause," he stated in a televised address as Gaza's death toll rose to 417.
Some 2,070 Gazans have been wounded since Israel's offensive began on Saturday. Among the latest targets were the Palestinian legislative council building and a complex housing the ministries of health, education and transport, all facilities belonging to the Palestinian National Authority and built with donations from Europe and elsewhere.
Dr Ziad Abu Amr, an independent legislator from Gaza, said he and colleagues had made fruit- less protests against the "total destruction" of Gaza but there is international "complicity" with Israel. He said these institutions will have to be rebuilt before governance can be restored.
A doctor who lives in Gaza city asserted, "We have never, never, never heard such explosions." His family survives by staying home. They eat rice and vegetables. Meat cannot be stored because there is no electricity: "I managed to get a small bag of bread because the lady [at the bakery] had promised me a few loaves."
His specialised clinic does not have equipment to treat wounded. "They all go to the [government] Shifa hospital. But it does not have the means to deal with all the casualties . . . Many doctors and nurses cannot reach the hospital because of the bombing," he said.
He planned to walk to his clinic to conduct emergency surgery, although he was uncertain whether anaesthetic was available.
Dr Mads Gilbert, a Norwegian physician who reached Gaza on Wednesday, said Gaza is a "complete man-made disaster. It's cold, there's no food, no fuel. At the main hospital [Shifa] all the windows have been blown out."
At the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza, he saw two field hospitals and 30 tonnes of medical supplies waiting to enter Gaza. He said the Israelis are using outlawed fuel air bombs and depleted uranium warheads. Many bodies are shredded and burnt.
While women and children comprise 25 per cent of the fatalities, they make up 40 per cent of the wounded. "Civilians are the targets, they are the victims," said Dr Gilbert.
Although the UN yesterday opened ration distribution centres for refugees for the first time in two weeks, humanitarian co-ordinator Maxwell Gaylard warned, "Without the violence stopping, it is extremely difficult to get food to people who need it. We cannot assess where the most urgent needs are. And it is too dangerous for civilians to leave their homes to seek urgent medical treatment, buy supplies and assist people in distress."
Israel has to open goods crossings for wheat, grain and other basic foods to feed the 1.1 million civilians dependent on food aid and to allow fuel to flow.
"Gaza's hospitals are facing their largest-ever trauma caseloads . . . They must have reliable power."

2 million people, few can get out, Israel controls if medical aid and food can come in. Bomb them (with US weapons), who cares about children and women and about all the people who are not Hamas radicals. This is the Israeli version of a concentration camp and it seems to be their way of how to cope with the experiences of WW II: Not learning from it, but copying it, albeit in a 21st Century version. I hope, Obama can come up with a more intelligent opinion and not just back Israeli lobbyists like every other US president did so far before.
Last but not least: The US and Israel bomb, the UN feeds, the EU funds: Most of the destroyed buildings have been built with EU funding, so US weapons, used by Israelis burn my money as European taxpayer.
Bring America Back !!!! Let us Make No Mistakes here, Israel is merely
doing to Gaza what the USA did and is doing to Iraq !!! No difference at all!
****Israel lives and loves its' Genocide ! They prove it time and time again, as they did recently in Lebanon--where they rightfully hold the title of the
Butchers of Beirut !!!
****Therefore, since the state of Israel is the benefactor of both Genocides,
there will Never be any Sense coming from the Bush Regime==the puppet mouths
of the radical right wing Neocon AIPAC, which controls US Mideast policy with
an iron hand !! Nobody in the DC Culture of Corruption will cross AIPAC !
****DO NOT even think Obama will change ANY USA behaviour toward Israel, and
he has NOT been silent. He says if his daughters were on the receiving end
of so called terrorist rockets, He would do the same as Israel. There you have
it, Plus Obama has already worshipped at the AIPAC altar--very first speech he
gave after becoming the presumptive Dem nominee==very next day !
***Future Sec/State Hillary Clinton has worshipped at AIPAC for many years, so
we already know all we will hear from her is about the Hate America textbooks distributed to Muslim Schools in the US.==That always strikes bounty with the
lucrative campaign big dollars at AIPAC ==and she knows it !!!
***I love the analogy posted below about fighter Tyson with brass knuckles
up against a bare fisted 15 year old boy. MAN. That sure is the Israeli idea
of combat, when you use your laser guided missiles versus sticks & stones, and
rudimentary so called Hamas rockets ! Lets see, so far we have 4 dead Israelis
and almost 500 dead defenseless Palestinians with another 25oo injured and
wounded. That's what the Israelis, Obama, Bush, Rice & AIPAC call a real War,
Man !! Hey, and don't forget all those WMD's of Saddam Hussein, until they
dissapeared, of course, and Saddam's neck got stretched by a rope ! Israel also loves it's cluster bombs, illegally procured from good ol' USA, who refuses to repudiate their use, and sells them illegally under the Foreign Military Sales program !!!!
***World opinion wants Israel stopped, censored, and punished. But, in the United Nations Security Council, no matter how many Nations vote to censure
Israel--including the Sec General himself, the USA has a Veto Power over the
resolution, and casts it in favor of Israel !!! AIPAC wins again !!
***You will not hear the Mainstream Media report about Cindy McKinney's medical supply boat getting rammed by Israel patrol jackboots last week so she could
not reach Gaza with meds drastically needed ! You will not hear about the missiles Israel fired at Gaza (6 Dead) during the Annapolis, MD Bush Library appeal for Mideast solutions--Gaza was protesting peacefully about not getting invited to the Bush Library Party at Annapolis ! You won't hear much about the year long Israeli starvation campaign vs. Gaza; its blockade of Gaza, it's expulsion of reporters/journalists from Gaza; or the free elections which chose Hamas as the governing body of Gaza !
*********The Poor Palestinians...there is an American precedent for their
sad situation==it was called The Alamo===Davey, Wild Bill, and the Texas
Volunteers versus the entire Mexican Army. REMEMBER THE ALAMO, for gawd's sake!

REPLY TO Dave Ibraham January 2nd, 2009 3:39 pm
"Since when is it politically incorrect to defend one's nation from blatant terrorism such as Hamas? This article, like many, subliminally represents more propaganda spin against the U.S., Israel and all free nations. These radical groups desire to eliminate all of us free thinking people from the planet....."
Dave, on which planet are you living?
I know that many Israelis are shocked and dismayed by their government´s criminal actions but you seem to be one of those who complains about "propaganda" yet has fallen for USraeli spin... The myth that Israel is always defending itself while Hamas is killing because they are evil and want to "destroy" Israel and the Jews.
What do you know about the history of the Middle East and Palestine / Israel in particular? Not much, or you would be more careful using the term "terrorist" to imply that people who have been designated to this category must be dehumanized and destroyed no matter what their reasons for violence are.
Israel was born out of terror and is the only country I know of, who promoted former TERRORISTS to Prime Ministers (Begin, Shamir) and gave STATE FUNERALS (1975)to others, e.g. the assassins of Lord Moyne who was killed on Nov 6, 1944. Other acts of terror include the bombing of the King David Hotel in 1946 by the IRGUN (Begin) and the assassination of UN envoy Count Folke Bernadotte (and Andre Serot) on Sept. 17, 1948.
His "crime": suggesting that Jerusalem should be under international supervision. The LEHI or "Stern Gang" sentenced these two men to death, among them Yitzak Shamir. Of course Begin and his collaborators would not call themselves "terrorists" they considered themselves "freedom fighters" who fought against the British "occupation" (which was legal under a League of Nations mandate). Internatioal laws clearly states that people have a right to fight against the occupying power as long as they do not target civilians.
Before you condemn Hamas and portray them as monsters who must be destroyed you should remember that the Jewish "terrorists" never showed any remorse for their attacks on civilians and always maintained that they were perfectly entitled to kill these people in order to achieve their political goals. One chilling example is given here in an extract from an article in THE INDEPENDENT commemorating Bernadotte`s assassination:
"Geula Cohen, a former Knesset member on the nationalist far right who in 1948 was a 17-year-old broadcaster on Lehi's clandestine radio, recalls the chilling threats she personally directed at Bernadotte over the airwaves in the weeks before the assassination...... DID SHE STILL THINK, 60 years later, IT WAS RIGHT TO KILL HIM? "There is no question about it. We would not have Jerusalem any more."
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/israels-forgotten-hero-the-assassination-of-count-...
After the bombing of the King David Hotel (91 dead) the British authorities hanged three IRGUN fighters. In retaliation the IRGUN kidnapped two British soldiers, shot them and hanged them on a tree. Pinned to the chests of the two dead men was a statement from the IRGUN: "...the court has found these men to be GUILTY OF ILLEGAL ENTRY INTO OUR HOMELAND (!), belonging to a criminal organisation (the British Occupation forces)and that this hanging "IS AN ORDINARY LEGAL ACTION OF A COURT OF THE UNDERGROUND..." When the British began to cut the hang rope hidden explosives detonated and tore the soldiers apart.... -----------------------------------------------------
Every civilian death will (and should) get world sympathy and that politicians exploit this empathy in their media appearances applies to all sides. Given that Gaza is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, a high number of casualties is practically inevitable and the IDF knows this very well. It is aparently part of their "Shock and Awe" tactic to beat Hamas into submission.
To bomb this crowded and desperate ghetto, after putting it under siege for months (collective punishment) is a war crime and a crime against humanity. (Some see emerging parallels to Nazi Germany...) The audacity to claim that this a justified response to the Qassamrockets fired from the Gaza Strip (which in most cases have no fatal consequences and have killed about 20 people in EIGHT years compared to over 2500 civilians killed by the IDF in Gaza according to B`tSelem) shows how blind,self-rightous - and criminal - the Israeli government is. Israeli violence has no higher moral value than Palestinan violence and they have a right to fight against their oppressors. The root cause for the aggression is Israels systematic contempt for international law and the rights of the Palestinian people for decades.
Israel has put Hamas "into business". It originally supported the rise of Hamas (building mosques and social services)as a rival to the PLO (Fatah) in order to divide Palestinians and weaken their resistance but this scheme did not work out as planned.... The US wanted free elections but when the wrong party won they tried all kinds of things
http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2008/04/gaza200804
to remove Hamas but every intrigue served only to strengthen Hamas in the end. Now they are obviously practising another, milder form of "Endloesung" for Hamas...
Israel does not want peace, it has sabotaged all "peace talks" and provoked Palestinian violence just when it seemed to calm down and Hamas had offered a "hudna".
The myth of poor, innocent Israel being threatened by evil Islamist fanatics whose people just want to live in peace must be perpetuated. Take the Palestinian violence (A REACTION to Israel`s violation of international law for more than 60 years, increasing state terror, brutal repression and ongoing stealing of Palestinian land) out of context and reduce it to mindless acts of "TERROR, TERROR, TERROR".
A former IDF pilot, now a member of Combatants for Peace has said on Democracy Now how shocked he was, when General Halutz told him that there are different categories for the value of human lives: at the top, the IDF .... at the bottom, the Palestinian civilian...

An Israeli War Crimes Tribunal (ICTI) May be the Only Deterrent to a Global War
By Francis A. Boyle
December 31, 2008 "Global Research"
http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=viewArticle&code=BOY20081230&articleId=11541
The United Nations General Assembly must immediately establish an International Criminal Tribunal for Israel (ICTI) as a "subsidiary organ" under U.N. Charter Article 22. The ICTI would be organized along the lines of the International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia (ICTY), which was established by the Security Council.
The purpose of the ICTI would be to investigate and prosecute Israeli war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide against the Peoples of Lebanon and Palestine--just as the ICTY did for the victims of international crimes committed by Serbia and the Milosevic Regime throughout the Balkans.
The establishment of ICTI would provide some small degree of justice to the victims of Israeli war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide against the Peoples of Lebanon and Palestine--just as the ICTY has done in the Balkans. Furthermore, the establishment of ICTI by the U.N. General Assembly would serve as a deterrent effect upon Israeli leaders such as Prime Minister Olmert, Foreign Minister Livni, Defense Minister Barak , Chief of Staff Ashkenazi and Israel's other top generals that they will be prosecuted for their further infliction of international crimes upon the Lebanese and the Palestinians.
Without such a deterrent, Israel might be emboldened to attack Syria with the full support of the Likhudnik Bush Jr. Neoconservatives, who have always viewed Syria as "low-hanging fruit" ready to be taken out by means of their joint aggression. If Israel attacks Syria as it did when it invaded Lebanon in 1982, Iran has vowed to come to Syria's defense.
And of course Israel and the Bush Jr administration very much want a pretext to attack Iran. This scenario could readily degenerate into World War III.
For the U.N. General Assembly to establish ICTI could stop the further development of this momentum towards a regional if not global catastrophe.

ACTION ALERT....ACTION ALERT: Spy for Israel!!!
http://sabbah.biz/mt/archives/2009/01/03/action-alert-spy-for-israel/
{Yesterday Aljazeera Arabic TV showed the leaflet which Gazans awoke to find scattered everywhere by the terrorist Israeli air force.
After a long search for a copy of the leaflet, I finally found it on Ma'an News (a Palestinian news agency). The leaflet gave me an idea for action that might help our people in Gaza a little. Let's read this leaflet first then follow the action.
The leaflet reads:
================================================================
To the residents of the Gaza Strip,
Take responsibility for your fate!
If you wish to provide help and assistance to your people in the sector, call the number below to provide us with the needed information. The projectile launchers and the terrorist elements pose a threat to you and your families.
The power to stop the massacre is in your hands.
Don't hesitate!
We will be glad to receive any information you have and it is not necessary to give us your personal information.
Your anonymity is guaranteed.
Call us at the following number:
02-5839749
Or you can e-mail us at: helpgaza2008@gmail.com to provide us with any information on the terrorist factions.
Note: To protect your safety, we ask you to be secretive when you call us.
Head of the Israeli Defense Forces
================================================================
It is clear that these Israeli terrorist pamphlets are marketing the blind insane destruction services of Israel to anyone who is WILLING to advise them of a target. In other words, to Spy for Israel!
These are the desperate and bankrupt measures (referring to 'Targets Bank' the IOF is supposed to attack) that this terrorist gang has reached. Note that they themselves understand that they engage in massacres, and that their actions are premeditated. They also offer no guarantees of safeguarding the informants.
As you notice in the pamphlet, they ask Gazans to call 02-583-9749, therefore for those outside of Palestine that's +972-2-583-9749. Also they left an email to contact them: helpgaza2008@gmail.com
So, what can be done? Simply, I encourage everyone to call above mentioned number (from your land line, mobile phone, Skype, etc.) and say in Hebrew "Atem Poshim, tafsiku laharog palestinayim, Palestien Meshuchreret, Aza meshuchreret."
The above is an oral Hebrew translation of: "You are Criminals. Stop Killing Palestinians. Free Palestine. Free Gaza."
Alternatively, use the above mentioned email (for your privacy, read below) and attach one of the following photos or album link to show them the result of their war crimes in Gaza.
Link: http://tinyurl.com/9sta9r
Your privacy:
For privacy reasons, we don't want the IOF to record your email, IP address, ISP, country, etc and track you down and maybe hack your PC or something worse. Therefore, don't use your original email account to contact them. To overcome this, you can send them ANONYMOUS emails. This way they can't track you or find any info about the sender (you).
There are two ways to send an anonymous email.
(1) The easy way:
All you need to do is go to the following address and register for a new email account. I suggest you create a completely random pseudonym (username). It will take you only 5 sec. to register and start sending emails (you don't have to give any personal info and they will not record any info about you, e.g. IP address etc. More: http://tinyurl.com/6wxmxk )
Go here to register and send your email:
http://tinyurl.com/6wxmxk
(2) The hard way:
Create and use your own anonymous email by using reliable remailers and GnuPG. This method is for high-tech wizards who like to do it the hard way:
Here is a step-by-step tutorial:

we the united states are equally responsible. our leaders are complicit in these crimes against humanity. this is ethnic cleansing by the zionists of israel and america. our government is bought and paid for by these zionists. if there was ever any doubt before, this should make it obvious.
Hey, like where is the condemnation from the POPE and the Church!!!! Granted quite a bit of their time in Rome is taken up by counting swag looted through-out the centuries and buggering but still.....
The Pope and the Church only condemn liberals who attempt to show that the Gospel message is the most liberal teaching ever put forth. "Do good to those who hurt you."
"If a man strike you on one cheek, turn the other to him".
The Pope's approach: "never, never rock the boat". "Authority is always right".
"Ziegheil".
In place of Palestinians read "Indians". In place of Israelis read "Whites". The history of the European genocide of the red man in North America is almost identical with the history of the Zionists treatment of the native populations of Palestine. Land became the justification for every single atrocity. One drunken Indian kills a white invader. A full division of Cavalry is sent to wipe out the tribe.
For 60 years now, Israel has refused to agree to any just "price" for the land they seized. For 60 years the owners of that land have been exiled from it and forced to live in fenced in enclaves subject to periodic punishment from the Zionists. Any attempt to escape imprisonment is a terrorist act against the citizens of Israel.
Today the white descendants of those land grabbing Europeans recognize that it does not seem fair the way our ancestors treated the Indians. But we are still unwilling to balance the scales. Will it take 100 more years for Israel to recognize that its Zionist leadership is forever defiling the reputation of the Jewish people?
One drunken Indian kills a white invader....AFTER being forced to accept firewater in exchange of items of value....
Twenty million of my people down the drain so that whites could talk about being the Master Race.
When are you leaving Turtle Island?
I will help you pack your bags.
If Israel keeps their current policies going, in 20 years they will cease to exist. Their colonization will make a 2-state solutions impossible and then they will have another South Africa on their hands. They will be forced to eventually grant citizenship rights to the Palestinians, which will be the majority. Good bye Jewish state and hello greater Palestine.
Israel deserves not to exist given their horrific behavior towards others.
They already have another South Africa on their hands.
No sympathy.
Not one whit for the zionists.
"They will be forced to eventually grant citizenship rights to the Palestinians, which will be the majority. Good bye Jewish state and hello greater Palestine."

Ameen... ameen... ameen
That is the inevitable
It’s only a matter of time, and that time is getting really close now
we have waited sixty years, and we are willing to wait a few more
We should all remember that the Rapture gang has been advertising for years to Jews around the world and funding their move to Israel where they are running out of land space to put so many people . Over the years the Palestine people have had several square miles of land taken from them while their people have been killed and deprived of the most basic requirements of life and our government remains in the control of the Rapture gang and looks the other way when these atrocities occur . Jews have been living in that part of our world for centuries before the Pat Rob-Us-All gang was born with a very peaceful existence . The real turmoil started when the folks from the Northern hemisphere got involved in that area and as long as we have people like Pat Rob-Us-All with this much power and influence there will always be turmoil in the places they want to shape in their molds . When the Rapture gang lay's hands on a place we can expect death and destruction .
Bush finally acted!!!
"Hamas rockets are Terrorist Acts!'

Gaza: the logic of colonial power
As so often, the term 'terrorism' has proved a rhetorical smokescreen
under cover of which the strong crush the weak
o Nir Rosen
o guardian.co.uk, Monday 29 December 2008 0800
I have spent most of the Bush administration's tenure reporting from
Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Somalia and other conflicts. I have been
published by most major publications. I have been interviewed by most
major networks and I have even testified before the senate foreign
relations committee. The Bush administration began its tenure with
Palestinians being massacred and it ends with Israel committing one of
its largest massacres yet in a 60-year history of occupying
Palestinian land. Bush's final visit to the country he chose to occupy
ended with an educated secular Shiite Iraqi throwing his shoes at him,
expressing the feelings of the entire Arab world save its dictators
who have imprudently attached themselves to a hated American regime.
Once again, the Israelis bomb the starving and imprisoned population
of Gaza. The world watches the plight of 1.5 million Gazans live on TV
and online; the western media largely justify the Israeli action. Even
some Arab outlets try to equate the Palestinian resistance with the
might of the Israeli military machine. And none of this is a surprise.
The Israelis just concluded a round-the-world public relations
campaign to gather support for their assault, even gaining the
collaboration of Arab states like Egypt.
The international community is directly guilty for this latest
massacre. Will it remain immune from the wrath of a desperate people?
So far, there have been large demonstrations in Lebanon, Yemen,
Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Iraq. The people of the Arab world will not
forget. The Palestinians will not forget. "All that you have done to
our people is registered in our notebooks," as the poet Mahmoud
Darwish said.
I have often been asked by policy analysts, policy-makers and those
stuck with implementing those policies for my advice on what I think
America should do to promote peace or win hearts and minds in the
Muslim world. It too often feels futile, because such a revolution in
American policy would be required that only a true revolution in the
American government could bring about the needed changes. An American
journal once asked me to contribute an essay to a discussion on
whether terrorism or attacks against civilians could ever be
justified. My answer was that an American journal should not be asking
whether attacks on civilians can ever be justified. This is a question
for the weak, for the Native Americans in the past, for the Jews in
Nazi Germany, for the Palestinians today, to ask themselves.
Terrorism is a normative term and not a descriptive concept. An empty
word that means everything and nothing, it is used to describe what
the Other does, not what we do. The powerful – whether Israel,
America, Russia or China – will always describe their victims'
struggle as terrorism, but the destruction of Chechnya, the ethnic
cleansing of Palestine, the slow slaughter of the remaining
Palestinians, the American occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan – with
the tens of thousands of civilians it has killed … these will never
earn the title of terrorism, though civilians were the target and
terrorising them was the purpose.

My name is Palestine
My name is Palestine
Heed it and be freed
From the ravages of oppression
And fear
My story is your story
My pain your pain
My dream your dream
My liberation your liberation
I have wronged none
But have been wronged
I have been beaten
I have been shot
I have been mutilated
I have been robbed
I will not be cowed
My name is Palestine
I have no fear
Fear is but a milestone I passed
Somewhere on my journey of dispossession pain misery
My name is Palestine

My children have been killed
My vineyards razed
My water stolen
And my home demolished
My name is Palestine
I will not be cowed
Strangers from foreign shores
Steal my lands
In guile and deceit
Assisted by international thieves
And global bandits
Witnessed by a silent world
In the name of twisted ideologies
Make me a stranger in my lands
And rain death upon me
My name is Palestine
I will not be cowed
As the stars are so shall I be
As the sun sets and rises
So shall I
I shall break the chains
That are placed on my wrists
I shall remove the manacles from my legs
I shall tear loose from the dust
To which I am chained
I shall cry freedom till my last breath
I am Palestine
I shall not be cowed
Or enslaved
Or bought
Or sold
I am Palestine
I will not be cowed
I have been starved
Strangled
Suffocated
Tortured and maimed
I have endured
I am stronger
Resolute
My spirits soar
Like the eagle
My hopes like the cedars of Lebanon
On the winds is my name written
In songs will I live
In your memories will I reside
For eternity
Death may embrace me
Beyond shall I exist
For eternities
And more
In you
In your children
In your children’s children
Immortalized in your dreams
Should I die
Whisper my name
Before you sleep
That I repose amongst the stars
That you might see me
And remember me
And speak of me
For I am Palestine
I will not be cowed

What follows is the Arab League Plan-and after that Article 11
in Resolution 194.
The Arab Peace Initiative
(translation by Reuters).
The Council of Arab States at the Summit Level at its 14th Ordinary Session, reaffirming the resolution taken in June 1996 at the Cairo Extra-Ordinary Arab Summit that a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East is the strategic option of the Arab countries, to be achieved in accordance with international legality, and which would require a comparable commitment on the part of the Israeli government.
Having listened to the statement made by his royal highness Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, crown prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in which his highness presented his initiative calling for full Israeli withdrawal from all the Arab territories occupied since June 1967, in implementation of Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338, reaffirmed by the Madrid Conference of 1991 and the land-for-peace principle, and Israel's acceptance of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in return for the establishment of normal relations in the context of a comprehensive peace with Israel.
Emanating from the conviction of the Arab countries that a military solution to the conflict will not achieve peace or provide security for the parties, the council:
1. Requests Israel to reconsider its policies and declare that a just peace is its strategic option as well.
2. Further calls upon Israel to affirm:
I- Full Israeli withdrawal from all the territories occupied since 1967, including the Syrian Golan Heights, to the June 4, 1967 lines as well as the remaining occupied Lebanese territories in the south of Lebanon.
II- Achievement of a just solution to the Palestinian refugee problem to be agreed upon in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution 194.
III- The acceptance of the establishment of a sovereign independent Palestinian state on the Palestinian territories occupied since June 4, 1967 in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
3. Consequently, the Arab countries affirm the following:
I- Consider the Arab-Israeli conflict ended, and enter into a peace agreement with Israel, and provide security for all the states of the region
II- Establish normal relations with Israel in the context of this comprehensive peace.
4. Assures the rejection of all forms of Palestinian patriation which conflict with the special circumstances of the Arab host countries
5. Calls upon the government of Israel and all Israelis to accept this initiative in order to safeguard the prospects for peace and stop the further shedding of blood, enabling the Arab countries and Israel to live in peace and good neighbourliness and provide future generations with security, stability and prosperity
6. Invites the international community and all countries and organisations to support this initiative.
7. Requests the chairman of the summit to form a special committee composed of some of its concerned member states and the secretary general of the League of Arab States to pursue the necessary contacts to gain support for this initiative at all levels, particularly from the United Nations, the Security Council, the United States of America, the Russian Federation, the Muslim states and the European Union.
11. Resolves that the refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbours should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return and for loss of or damage to property which, under principles of international law or in equity, should be made good by the Governments or authorities responsible;
I know that a certain vagueness and a historical distance makes this resolution and it's implementation difficult-but it could be worked out and it certainly is comprehensive enough to limit conflict.
Good one Puck Twain!
PLEASE to All: Sign onto End the Occupation's Open Letter to President-Elect Obama
We Need a Change in Israel/Palestine Policy
Dear President-Elect Obama,
Congratulations on your historic election as the next President of the United States.
Last year, you pledged to “take an active role, and make a personal commitment to do all I can to advance the cause of [Israeli-Palestinian] peace from the start of my Administration.” We are eager to work with you to fulfill this goal.
To do so, your Administration should break with past policies of unconditional support for Israel's illegal military occupation of the Palestinian West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip, and change U.S. policy toward Israel/Palestine to support human rights, international law, and equality.
We agree with Aaron David Miller, a 25-year State Department Middle East negotiator and adviser on Arab-Israeli affairs, who wrote that “For far too long, many American officials involved in Arab-Israeli peacemaking, myself included, have acted as Israel's attorney, catering and coordinating with the Israelis at the expense of successful peace negotiations.”
To become an honest and effective broker, your Administration should:
* Insist that Israel ends its siege of the Gaza Strip. Israel has deliberately impoverished the 1.5 million residents of the Gaza Strip and caused a humanitarian catastrophe of dire proportions by prohibiting the delivery of food, medicine, fuel, and electricity. Your Administration should insist on the illegality of collective punishment and support the human rights of Palestinians such as freedom of movement as a first step towards ending Israel's occupation of the Gaza Strip.
* Demand a freeze in the construction of settlements and Israel's Wall in the West Bank. Israel's West Bank settlements, including those in East Jerusalem, are all illegal under international law,and the International Court of Justice ruled in 2004 that Israel's Wall is illegal and must be torn down. Halting this construction should be a first step toward completely dismantling the infrastructure of Israel's occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which former President Jimmy Carter, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and others have labeled “apartheid.”
* Hold Israel accountable for its misuse of U.S. weapons. In 2007, the United States and Israel agreed to increase military aid to Israel by 25% over the next decade, totaling $30 billion. During the Bush Administration, Israel killed more than 2,000 innocent Palestinian civilians who took no part in hostilities, oftentimes with U.S. weapons in violation of the Arms Export Control and Foreign Assistance Acts. Your Administration should hold Israel accountable for these violations of U.S. law and cut off military aid as required by law, rather than increase it.
* End the U.S. veto protecting Israel at the United Nations. The United States has used its veto power at the UN more than 40 times since 1972 to shield Israel from the consequences of its violations of human rights, UN resolutions, and international law. Your Administration should work with, not in opposition to, the international community so that human rights, UN resolutions, and international law are applied and enforced uniformly.
* Base a just peace on human rights, international law, and equality. Such a policy is the only way to ensure the legitimate security needs of all peoples and can only be achieved by engaging in dialog with all interested parties. A just and lasting Israeli-Palestinian peace includes the complete end of Israel's military occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip; a resolution to the Palestinian refugee issue consistent with international law and UN resolutions, including the right of return and/or compensation; and full equality for Palestinian citizens of Israel. A policy denying Palestinians these internationally-guaranteed rights will only lead to yet another failed “peace process”.

Done I have signed all petitions on this issue I can find, in the long run this sort of concentrated citizen pressure on the government I think does the most good.
A Barack Obama Katrina moment is at hand and in silence he watches as the bodies wash ashore in Hawaii. And Horton hears the cries of the maimed, hungry and thirsty...but a cartoon character can do nothing, and another empty suit awaits the oval office chair as the misty vapors of Obamaphoria evaporates.
Its only $10 Billion +++ per year and the USA can afford it !!!!!!
Hamas is the democratically elected Government of the Palestinians and Israel has assassinated and imprisoned many of these elected officials on a regular basis !!!
Most Americans don't know this because of US MSM !!!!!
All this Gaza bombing is being supported and paid for by American Tax Payers.
The usual routine as with Iraq sanctions embargoes bombing causing people in Gaza to have to eat grass to survive over the past few years !!!!!
The USA is responsible for bringing a Holocaust lasting over 20 years to Iraq at the behest of Israel !!!

Shame on Israel ,the USA and the World !!!!

Most Israelis are Insane! That's the conclusion I've reached, one that is based upon my knowledge of psychology.
Even if you didn't have a major in psychology most people, if they truly knew what was happening in Gaza, and has been happening for sixty years, would draw the same conclusion.
My latest post explored this insanity!

Actually, Only about 50% approve of the bombings by the IDF and less than 10% approve of the upcoming land offensive
But I could be wrong !
If you have a link please post, IMO it's VERY important that our righteous anger about Israelis government actions neither degenerate into anti Semitism or serve as fodder for their ravings. And note the ravings of anti Semites discredit us all and in fact I'd go as far as to say are encouraged by rabid Zionists to discredit us.
Pissed off CNN announcer kicks some Isreali ass: "Israel does not target civilians my ass..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6fn5NZ6LBk&feature=related
This occurred in Lebanon during Israels aggression against that country but NOTE.
The Israelis announced during the war that Hizbollah would launch rockets then MOVE THE LAUNCHERS so as not to be targetted. They stated this openly and again and again in order to placate Israelis who were asking why the rockets from Hizbollah kept hitting Israel.
They also stated clearly AND it was reported on over and over again that Hizbollah did not launch these rockets AT NIGHT.
The reason is obvious. If they are launched at night you can immediately locate the launch site. Further peoples at the other end can see the rockets coming. I distinctly remember CNN reporters stating that "It daylight now meaning Hizbollah will soon commence firing its rockets into Israel"
Israel admits it used PGMS in this attack.
The attack was launched at 2 am. That two in the morning.
Given the above facts, there is no possible way they were targetting an Hizbollah launch site unless Hizbollah did NOT in fact move its launchers and or they did in fact launch at night.
In short the Israeli spokesperson was clearly LYING.
Rice vows hard work on arranging Gaza cease-fire

The Israelis will stop with the Zyklon-B only after the last Palestinean stops kicking and screaming.
I just want to say that the little Palestinian boy (in the photo) is one helluva man! That is my hero!
I agree, WinningTicket. I doubt that any of us, or our children, would react any differently if some "thug" (or "bully") in a military uniform and armed with a (US-supplied) gun kept us from going to our homes!

Don't worry, Gazans. Help is on the way. Hang on until Jan. 20. Obama takes office, gets advice from Kissinger, Allbright, & Chuck Shumer...and acts upon it!

Oh they are RUNNING to help Gazans!
Do you think their silence would be as deafening if it was an all out assault on Jerusalem with Helicopters, F-16s, and APCs and tanks ringing the city?
Not so much.
The nature of the problem needs a solution offered by the Arab League plan of 2002-which would create
a Palestinian state in pre-1967 borders including East Jerusalem. This plan also includes a graduated and rational right of return for all Palestinians. It's framework has been accepted by Shimon Peres and many moderate to progressive Israeli lawmakers.
If Obama would make it his administration's aim to call for the implementation of this plan-the Middle East crisis of nearly a century would slowly phase out. It is very important that we,as people of the democratic Left, to pressure him to implement this plan and begin to alleviate the suffering of all those in the Middle East.
If he shows reluctance or is swayed by the fascists lies of the Israeli government-then I suggest that the Palestinians go to the U.N. and ask for a rapid deployment force into Gaza and the West bank which will protect the Palestinians from Israel's aggression. If this force is blocked by veto power then the Arab League must call for an all Arab military intervention
to help the Palestinians.
"Arab League plan of 2002-which would create
a Palestinian state in pre-1967 borders including East Jerusalem. This plan also includes a graduated and rational right of return for all Palestinians."
I am sligtly familiar with this now, but I don't see a "graduated and rational right of return for all Palestinians included in the plan. Do you have the details? Thanks.
I have said in the past that I was perplexed that Hamas helped Egypt reseal the Egypt border.
But given the fact that Israel controls both sides of it, and it can kill as many palestinians as it wants to(as well as internationals, including americans) its probably a mistake to focus too much on what prisoners are doing.
But-when they did blow holes in the border, the US, Israel and Egypt didnt know how to respond as it was so off script.
What if part of the Israeli boycott focused on the Egyptian aid?
I wonder if there could be some fissures there exploited.
A boycott if Israel is really the best course of action--but even there the rabid Israel defenders will make it difficult.
If Hamas said: ok we surrender, would it stop the bombing?
I doubt it.
Israel would say: they are just bluffing.
It uses a false paranoia/victim/existential threat status to cover for its jewish supremacy mindset and all its actions.
I know they had suicide bombings, but they were fairly rare-and only started after Baruch Goldstein's massacre of palestinians in 94.
From interviews with general Israeli society, most people dont even think about the Occupied Territories. They are too busy going to the beach and kareoke bars.
The BBC had a report today and it said 400 palestinians "are said" to have been killed, while 4 Israelis have been killed.
Why not say 4 Israelis "are said" to have been killed?
They also said the fact that the US blames Hamas for everything, is "perceived as" bias.
Cant call a spade a spade?
Israeli letter writers are quite a force. Palestinian advocates have nothing to compare --even though there are certainly wealthy arabs/muslims.
Zionism is only part of the problem over there. Believing the one true God gave you the land is one thing, but their words and actions suggest absolute contempt for palestinians and non jews(unless you saved jews in WW2).
"Putting them on a diet." This shows that Israel knows its in control of Gaza-and gleeful about causing misery. It does not suggest fear of an enemy.
School children writing notes on bombs dropped in Lebanon. So israel actively teaches its children to have contempt for its neighbors?
The destruction of Lebanese infrastructure, polluting of the ocean, and planting of land mines. What did the fish do? Were they terrorists?
Either Israel is deliberately malicious or insane.
Mel Gibson's drunken ramble about jews causing all the wars in the world came during the start of Israel's Lebanon attack.
He may have been drunk but he was certainly right in essence: Israel is a trouble maker.
You just know they are building up some major bad karma.
Israel has forfeited its right to exist. Its a terrorist State committing excesses that place it squarely in the moral realm of the Nazis.
Watching my distant zionist cousins rant and rave and basically celebrate this latest genocidal surge makes my blood boil. My peace-loving, jewish, grand-uncle who survived the holocaust would have completely agreed with me. When you become the very monster that you fleed, you deserve to die.
Well, this may not be possible, but what if every one in Gaza who can, all hold up white sheets or cloth. In other words, raise the white flag. Let it be seen that they surrender. That MIGHT undermine israel's current frenzy....who knows, it couldn't hurt.
Maybe that is impractical. But the impotent missle launching does nothing but make israel look like it has an excuse, lame as it is....
A despicable outrage. Once again, with the help of the United States, Israel is sowing more seeds of its own destruction. If the US were a true friend of Israel it would withhold military aid and demand a peaceful settlement to the conflict, the onus of which is on the shoulders of the deranged Zionist state. Shame, too, on the rest of the world for its silence.
It's not just the US but also EU and the corrupt dictators of the neighboring Arab nations such as Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia that are empowering the zionists running Israel.

TMinSD. Israel's assault-bombing delegitimizes these regimes, as both Israel and the aforementioned countries are tied to the West/The U.S. Thus the bombing destabilizes the whole ME, exacerbates and foments hatred, and slaughters an innocent people. "Like shooting fish in a barrel" I support and care for Israel, but this horror must stop. You accurately point to complicity. Warm out there in S.D.?

Nice post. Would you say Syria, Iran and Saudi Arabia's are complicit on the other side?
See any chance of the US and Syria getting together after we get rid of Bush and Obama takes office?
Hi, thanks for the understanding. As for warm, well, even though we're used to getting numb, I admit that single digit weather can get really nasty out here.
