WASHINGTON

The following is a statement from Alex Lawson, Executive Director of Social Security Works, on the Medicare For All Act of 2019, which was introduced today by Sen. Bernie Sanders and 14 co-sponsors:

" Social Security Works is proud to endorse the Medicare For All Act of 2019. It is the most visionary, comprehensive universal health care bill ever introduced in the U.S. Senate.

This bill would greatly benefit all Americans, especially current Medicare beneficiaries, who would receive better care at a lower cost. It adds dental, vision, hearing, and long-term care services to the current program while eliminating all premiums, deductibles, and co-pays.

It's long past time to get the for-profit insurance industry, whose business model depends on denying care to people who need it, out of health care. Today's bill introduction is a huge step in the right direction."

Social Security Works' mission is to: Protect and improve the economic security of disadvantaged and at-risk populations; Safeguard the economic security of those dependent, now or in the future, on Social Security; and Maintain Social Security as a vehicle of social justice.
