Limbaugh “Dreams” of - Doesn’t Advocate - Denver Riot

Rush Limbaugh says he was not calling for a riot in Denver during the Democratic National Convention - he only “dreams” of it, to the tune of “White Christmas.”0425 11 1

For a second day in a row today, the conservative talker discussed the potential for protests and power struggles at the August convention.

“Now, I am not inspiring or inciting riots. I’m dreaming, I’m dreaming of riots in Denver,” he said mimicking the holiday tune.

He explained on-air: “Riots in Denver at the Democrat Convention would see to it we don’t elect Democrats,” Limbaugh said. “And that’s the best damn thing (that) could happen for this country as far as anything I can think.”

Glenn Spagnuolo, an organizer with the protest group Re-create 68, called Limbaugh “a fool.”

“We don’t need another 5,000 illiterate Limbaugh listeners coming to Colorado,” he said, mocking a comment this week by State Rep. Douglas Bruce, R-Colorado Springs, calling migrant workers “illiterate peasants” as he debated a bill to accommodate up to 5,000 guest workers in the state.

Calls to a Limbaugh spokeswoman were not immediately returned.

Mayor John Hickenlooper said, “”Anyone who would call for riots in an American city has clearly lost their bearings.”

Jenni Engebretsen, a spokeswoman for the convention, declined to respond to Limbaugh.

“I think we’ll pass on this one,” she said.

Limbaugh is heard by more than 14 million listeners a week.

Limbaugh’s Denver affiliate, 850 KOA, issued a statement today, saying its marquee talker “was not advocating violence in Denver,” according to the statement listing program director Kris Olinger as the contact.

Olinger did not return telephone calls for comment, but the station sent out a second e-mail to local media stating, “Did he go to far? Or is this just Rush being Rush?”

On Wednesday, Limbaugh had been discussing comments by the Rev. Al Sharpton, who had warned of “trouble” at the convention if the nomination was wrested away from Barack Obama by superdelegates.

Local conservative talk show host and GOP activist John Andrews saw what he believes Limbaugh was getting at.

“Look, nobody seriously wants violence and civil disobedience at the Denver convention,” he said. “Rush is just saying, ‘Make our day’; if, in fact, the Re-create ‘68 hooligans or the Al Sharpton street toughs or anybody else wants to disrupt the convention, they’re going to hurt Democrats’ chances in the fall.”

Responding to a caller Thursday, Limbaugh held his ground but softened his tone.

“Who wishes for riots?” he said to the caller, according to a transcript. “I didn’t get the ball rolling. It is Democrats like Al Sharpton who have warned that there will be.”

Denver City Councilman Charles Brown, a Republican and Limbaugh listener, was outraged. Brown was a school teacher in Illinois during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968. He recalled the injuries, chaos, lingering tear gas and national disgrace for Chicago as a result of the riots.

“What an insult,” Brown said of Limbaugh’s flippancy. “Regardless of political labels, for any radio announcer to wish a riot on a city so his party could win, that’s disgraceful and it’s absurd.”

He said he has found Limbaugh to be a “great entertainer, but he’s really gone too far. It’s almost juvenile.”

Brown said he did not think Limbaugh was speaking for Republicans when he made the comment.

“I don’t believe there is a Republican in this state that would agree with his comment.”

The station’s listeners had mixed reviews, according to the 850 KOA online discussion forum.

“The man is first and foremost an entertainer, selling radio spots at exorbitant rates,” one listener wrote. “He does however have the best interests of the country at heart. The idea that he is somehow trying to foster riots at the DNC is the typical left-wing dodge resorted to when confronted with the consequences of their own actions.”

Another said, “I am aware that it is all for show, but that fact that many Americans hang their hats on his every word is quite disturbing. They can’t think for themselves. They can’t see that he is all about self gain.”

    Seriously, if there ever was a case for inciting unrest his pad on Palm Beach would be the perfect spot wouldn’t it.

    Not that I’m advocating that of course. I’m just dreaming of it and singing it to the tune of White Christmas.

    Maybe Rush knows something we don’t…infiltrate the dissenters with uncover guys…and like magic…it can get out of control…and guess who gets blamed…the dissenters.

    Just like in the 60’s….

    Same song, 3rd verse. If they want riots…they can arrange them and suck the dissenters into getting the blame.

    Limbaugh is a fat pig of a man – a privileged junkie that connects with a lot of other of his kind though less privileged. It’s a shame he has a forum. It’s a shame he’s an American but there are a lot of others just like him and that is also a shame. He’ll come back as something akin to a beaten dog for his karma is large and unforgiving as was Marley’s chain. Keep eating steak, fat boy for your time as the hunter will close in around you soon enough and then it’s gonna be Alpo time. What a disgusting excuse for a human being is this pig called Limbaugh.     This guy keeps breaking the law and getting away with it. He shops doctors to support his addiction to pain killers and gets a slap on the wrist. He encourages his listeners, in violation of Ohio law, to switch party affiliation for the sole purpose of voting for Hillary Clinton and then switch back to Republican. No prosecution. Now he’s advocating a violent uprising in Denver. And I’m sure, once again, nothing will happen to him, even though I believe it’s illegal to advocate a violent uprising. We’re a nation of lawbreaker leaders-thugs and law breaker conservative pundits (including Ann Coulter, who committed election fraud), and no one is doing anything. Somebody please help us out of this nightmare!

I don’t know how successful his wish for riots will be, but the mere fact he suggests such a thing sheds light on his just how un-American this troglodyte is. This man is dangerous in that he incites fools. Believe me, I know some of his listeners; they’re incorrigible! If you cite facts, they ignore them. Facts do not matter to brainwashed minions of Rush, aka dittoheads. They regurgitate whatever he says and they NEVER question it. They are perfect little republicans. If the dems don’t unite, regardless of Hillary’s refusal to go away quietly, these people will finish the hit job they’ve started on our democracy.

    Almost everybody posting above has agreed to disapprove of and deride Rush Limbaugh. Since he is an arguably smart guy(hey, he makes millions a year) albeit a very hateful guy, and he HATES Democrats, there is a counter-argument to be made that we ought to elect a whole flock of Democrats as the best repudiation of El Rushbo and his brand of hate.

    I’d hope all the posters below would agree to that, but I bet that before it gets done, you’ll find some dodo-bird(s) exclaiming that the Democrats hated by Rush are as bad or worse than Rush himself. Whaddaya bet?

    The Fox News (I only use this term because that is what THEY call themself) channel has done more to divide this country than any republican conspiracy could ever do. Fox news is right there ragging on all the good liberal stuff that happens and just seems to ignore the really bad conservative stuff. For some reason unknown to me, it seems that people enjoy getting stirred up about some liberal social program and not about really dumb or criminal things that the republican party or its leaders do.

    Looks like Rush might get his “riot” wish, except it will be the Republican convention and it will be the soon to disappear middle class and lower class rioting to get the wealth to pay their fair share.

    And the next “riot” after that will most likely be at Rush’s studio in the form of a lynch mob.

    This is the opportunity for American citizens to come tell a Democratic party that has brought them a disasterous war and a collapsing economy exactly what they think of the Democrats. Think you elected the Dems in 2006 to end the war. Come to Denver and tell the Democrats what you think of their continued support of the war. Are you smart enough to realize that its one Clinton-era piece of legislation that’s screwing you … from NAFTA to WTO to the Telecom reform of 96 that brought about media concentration to the Banking reform of 99 that set up the current crisis and the hundreds of billions of your dollars bailing out Wall Steet.

    erbalist, It wasn’t Repub “Toughs”. It was a group of Republican Congressional Staffers.

    That’s right. They were employees of the US Congress. Their transportation and lodging costs for the trip were Paid For by the Republicans who shipped them from Washington for the express purpose of halting the Recount.

    And there’s Limbaugh’s Operation Chaos - his urging Republicans to vote in Democratic primaries, even if it means they have to switch affiliation, and vote strongly for Sen. Clinton.

    He is intentionally using his position as a charimatic media figure with a public platform to subvert a U.S. national election. And nobody’s doing a damn thing about it. He thinks it’s just hilarious.

    Imagine if OBL went on the airwaves saying he’s “dreaming” of riots in Denver during the convention. That would be taken by the corporate media and its pocketed public officials as a threat to our national security. Yet RL does it and it’s just Colorado Dreamin’.

    Rush is a mouthpiece for the cancer that’s killing this country at the top, which is why he can say these things with impunity (unless perhaps people express some outrage?!). Listen to what he’s saying: “this is about CHAOS” … “burning cars” …”literal riots, that’s the objective here…”

    The original ‘68ers helped put Richard Nixon in the White House, no matter how you try to shift the blame onto Daley’s police, and these jerks are going to do their best to help Hillary Clinton torpedo the extraordinary progressive candidacy of Barack Obama, and put John McCain in the White House.

    America and the world cannot afford the price of these people’s self-indulgence. If you don’t have anything positive to contribute to the hard work of politics and building a progressive MAJORITY coalition, please keep out of the way.

It’s kind of like a cheaper vanity license plate so that we can tell how many of us there are that reject Empire and choose Earth Community. We’ve got to get a handle of how many of us there are in numbers.

    I get the sense that you think there is still a functioning political process in which the public can participate. This is odd coming from a supporter of Nader… The vote count is routinely manipulated and completely unreliable (see the excellent documentary Hacking Democracy at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4463776866669054201 ) The media excludes any candidate whose platform undermines the governing elites’ current course. Our “law enforcement” agencies are routinely caught infiltrating peaceful dissident groups with agents provocateurs (look up COINTELPRO for a historical example) and now Limbaugh is openly calling for COINTELPRO-like disruptive tactics. Isn’t it time for a post-mortem on this nation’s political process, in tandem with a vigorous grassroots movement which recognizes that the greatest threat to this nation comes from the top?

    According to a Zogby poll: Rush Limabugh has a diehard core of 16-18 million fans and also has 10’s of millions more listeners, on top of that 14 million core, who find him ‘entertaining’ and ‘generally’ think he makes ‘good sense.’

    To get a truer picture of what jjpeter above calls ‘the face of the enemy,’ multiply Limbaugh’s mug by about 35 million other US faces — at minimum.

    As I see it, the chief features of such [Limbaugh] folks are: untreated, profound emotional constipation; leading to fear of other people who have less constipated emotions and wider perceptions about reality; leading to attempts to bind that fear through ultra rigid thinking, and/or clever mocking of those with more open hearts; leading to black vs white perceptions of all life uncertainties; leading, in further psychic compensation, to authoritarian/abusive child rearing in the home and embracement of authoritarian political and religious figures, at large; leading to collapse of civilized values both in private and public life, and to a general slide back into exactly that state of Base Nature which such folks claim NOT to want.

    Limbaugh apotheosizes what Wilhelm Reich called The Emotional Plague, but Reich hardly confined diagnosis of this plague to Capitalist societies.

    Limbaughoma of the Left can easily occur, too. E.g., the top Bolsheviks who came to rule the USSR were uniformly rigid, fascistic personalities, also direly in need of psychic enemas; not availed of which, they also proceeded to lie and murder out of their unseen, constipated shadow-sides.)

    We should take some stock that the USA, depsite its monstrous contradictions and actions over the years, was at least conceived out of a healthier wisdom about human foibles and possible fixes thereto vis-a-vis democratic governance, than anything embodied by the likes of Stalin or Limbaugh, bewteen whom there is in the end no difference worth a fig.

    Rush was a minor Denver radio personality when his career was suddenly shot to the top. By an Uzi, as I recall, that was used to assassinate the major radio personality. That was many years ago when only Israeli death squads had Uzis.

    He may be stupid, but he is playing us for fools. Our nomination process would be over but for him. His “deployment of troops” to cross over and vote for Hillary has prolonged our process, and will change our eventual Senate and Congressional gains/losses, as well as possibly changing the outcome of the race.

    The fact remains that he needed a willing manipulee so to speak, and Hillary is more then willing to oblige. So depraved is her ambition, that the fact that she is playing into his plan to destroy the Democratic party, doesn’t bother her.

    He says on his website that the way for Obama to end it, is to simply state it publicly. He knows he won’t, and the “drive by press” as he aptly calls it, is not going to state it if no newsworthy Democrat has.

    Rush is not an idiot. He has the power, given to him by Hillary’s cooperation, to completely change our political future. There isn’t much we can do besides watch.

    If the nomination goes all the way to the convention of course there’ll be ‘trouble’ as in expressions of major disappointment, shouted protests probably. But that’s is NOT synonymous with ‘riot’.
    Lanaguage matters.

    One could thank Limbaugh for raising the spectre of 1968, being alert to infiltrators, and incitement to riot.

If a liberal entertainer puts out something that conservatives find offensive then they get trashed and theaten with jail time, but nothing happens to Rush. When I studied Broadcasting in High School, back in the 70’s we were taught that “Talk Radio entertainment” audiences were people on the “Lower Social Economic Level”. It amazes me how many people with education higher then High School listen to Rush.

    Could somebody tell me if Limburger would be liable if there was a riot in Denver? I’m not a lawyer, but I do know somwething about these type of things. At the very least it seems to me there could be possible law suites, if for some reason people was hurt as aresult of riots. This could draw an injured persons into the courts at a very significant expense to the state, and be very time consuming. Denver leaders have to realize that the cost of tying up their courts with these suites would be costly to tax payers of the state.
    There could, it seems to me , be possible criminal charges filed by the state of Colorado holding Limbaugh responsible for inciting a riot.

However, after seven years of Bush in the White House, his rants aren’t funny to me any more. Hearing his name in the same sentence with “an overdose of pain medication” might get a smile. It is disturbing to think that 14 million people are seriously buying into his bullshit. Listening to that bullshit everyday would have to turn ones brain to mush.

    If Rush thought these strange things and kept them to himself, it might be funny. The fact that he influences a large number of US citizens is terrifying. But I think people’s derogatory comments about his weight and addiction are offensive and beside the point. If he were thin and straight-edge would that make his war-mongering, racism and classism (and, and, and…) any less offensive and dangerous? Al Sharpton could lose some weight,too, that doesn’t negate the power or insight of what he says.

    If you wouldn’t pick on fat kid in school, don’t pick on the fat facist for his weight. Pick on him for his facism.

    And addiction sucks. Rush is low on my list of people to empathize with, but I don’t think anyone should be mocked for it.

    2) when he committed a federal crime by forged his doctor’s name on his Rx pad for a narcotic and then instead of an arrest and a conviction that should’ve sent him to the SLAMMER for maybe 20 to life…his pal Wackjob Bush intercedes and gets him off the hook!

    3) And of course, his latest federal offense stint, that nearly everyone here agrees, should’ve netted that mental midget the title of one of America’s Most Wanted [top 3] and, again, pounding sand in a federal prison for boku time (good riddance to fat offal boy)….

    In short, while you wanna pretend that he’s a Mr Rogers kind of guy, I and a lot of others here would prefer `ole Flush-the-Rush lined up against wall and shot for being a traitor!

    These politicians, city officials pass off Rush like he’s just entertainment. Where have they been these past 20 years. Many people take this nazi pig seriously. HOw,I can’t understand, but I have run into neighbors who adore this piece of garbage. And, he was advocating violence in Denver, no matter how he twists his lying tongue. And some of his idiot followers will probably do something to make the Democratic Convention another 68. He should be taken seriously and should be handcuffed and led to jail for advocating violence and his play on words should be noted by the best of lawyers who are skilled at the art of lying and twisting.

    Gulf of Tonkin was a lie, it was lied about for 20+ years.
    Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait was encouraged by the State Dept.
    The “sobbing Kuwaiti-girl-nurse about the ‘incubator babies’” was an acted role and a complete fabrication by a PR group (ad agency) hired by Kuwait on behalf of Bush Senior. (Hill & Knowlton, Burston-Marsteller)
    The freedom-advocating “Iraqi National Congress” was created by an Ad Agency (just like Ronald McDonald), with Chalabi placed at the head of it. (Rendon Group, for CIA, on behalf of Bush … long story there)

    And we will find — if we have not already sufficient info — that the 9-11 story/investigation is not only jammed with tiny lies and contradictions within their own official stories, the entire event was a military operation with the primary purpose being psychological warfare to shift the public mood towards war (this was stated in advance), carried out by those people who most benefitted politically in the aftermath. (Hint: Not “the Arabs”.) (Hint: These people published in advance that they needed a bloodbath in America to jumpstart their planned war, to overcome public apathy. It’s not even a secret.)

    And, yes, Wikipedia IS subject to edit … it’s also subject to correction by members for slanted or incorrect info … so rather than a authoritarian source like most news sources, wikipedia is actually democratic!! … therefore the commondreams crowd ought to hate it??? … it’s been judged to be NO MORE INACCURATE THAN Encyclopedia Brittanica.

    On the other hand, an emailed conspiracy was recently uncovered (leaked to Electronic Intifada) where the rabid Israeli front group “CAMERA” planned to join the senior membership group of Wikipedia, slowly begin editing and/or challenging factual articles on Israel-Palestinian issues, and to literally RE-WRITE HISTORY, and to infiltrate and eventually take over the entire board, by stealth, without anyone understanding their hidden agenda.

    CAMERA tried to say the emails of their conspiracy were forged.

    So in any democratic forum or body, keep an eye out for possible infiltration and subversion.

    That said, Wikipedia is usually accurate, or ‘conservative’ about harsh criticism (i.e. the reality may be far worse than the limits of what wikipedia permits), and especially accurate about non-controversial historical events.

    In my opinion, the documentary entitled Orwell Rolls in his Grave is good, but somehow leads under the assumption that we should EXPECT the corporate-military-government media to be honest and to not have an agenda of social control.

    That’s ridiculous. During most of the Cold War, some of the most liberal media outlets ran CIA-managed news. Some of it was actively Limbaugh-like, the Birch Society type stuff. Some of it hyped the more frivolous aspects of “counter-culture”, trying to appear “hip” and intellectual, but never revolutionary, only metaphorically subversive. Much of it served the purpose of diversion.

    The CIA, tiring of human rights exposes on their activities, even founded their own “human rights” organizations, that even criticized the USA but in relatively narrow terms, a few mistakes. The main thrust was to create institutions used to demonize the opposition, not only the Soviet Union, but genuine liberation movements, as well as even dictatorial statists who got “too independent”. Human Rights Watch was one of these. For example, they could slam Saddam’s horrendous human rights record, then chastize the US for dealing with Saddam, for placing foreign policy above human rights. A mistake in judgment. What they did not say is the CIA established in Saddam a ruthless hitman, someone willing to murder the CIA’s political opponents — Gen. Kassem, the Left, republicans (who believed in popular govt), Liberals, the left side of the Baathist Party, anyone opposed to Washington’s dictates.

    The history of the CIA and the Washington Post, the CIA and the New York Times, the CIA and Time Magazine, the CIA and foreign press bounced back into the USA, is all pretty astonishing. No one seems to remember the Church Committee and the Pike Committee, hampered though they were. I guess everyone thinks that all went away when CIA director Bush said he’d clean it up, shut access for the investigators, after he replaced Colby.

    The main reason the voices are more hysterical and more angry now, is there is less of a need for Liberal-sounding media to counter-balance the idealism and egalitarianism of socialism, so the mask is removed.

    As some point out, Hugo Chavez is not a socialist, he’s more like the type of “New Democrat” that JFK tried to develop in foreign nations, a liberal who wanted to lift society as a whole, and somewhat limit corporate greed. Yet the media paints Chavez as if he were a full-blown Red, despite the fact that Big Oil operates freely in Venezuela, they just have to pay some taxes for “Bricks and Milk”. That’s an example of the shift.

    The media reflects the current phase of corporate authoritarianism, The Lexus and the Olive Tree, renegade finance (debt) capitalism, with only a vestigal countervailing force in society. To expect it to be different, as the Orwell movie pretends, is self-delusion.

    After nearly 8 years, the New York Times finally admits its “mistake” in parroting the lines of CIA-asset Ahmed Chalabi to sell Bush’s war. Some liberal media.
