Don't Attack Iran: Anti-War Campaign to Step Up Protests Over Donald Trump's Visit

The world is increasingly alarmed at Donald Trump's escalation of conflict with Iran. WASHINGTON

The world is increasingly alarmed at Donald Trump's escalation of conflict with Iran. He is being encouraged by his national security advisor, John Bolton, an architect of the Iraq war and a man committed to military solutions. Speculation that 120,00 US troops are being deployed to the Middle East to confront Iran is deeply worrying.

The Stop the War Coalition is urging all its affiliates, members and supporters to oppose these developments and to make this clear to Trump during the state visit on June 3-5. There will be protests around the country, including when he visits Portsmouth on 5th June, and a mass protest in central London assembling at 11am in Trafalgar Square on 4th June.

Stop the War Convenor, Lindsey German, said:

"Trump claimed he was against foreign wars when campaigning, but in office he is pushing for conflict in the Middle East, especially against Iran. His sanctions and trade wars in various parts of the world are creating a dangerous instability. Hundreds of thousands turned out to protest when he came last year. It is a disgrace he is being given a state visit - and we expect even more to turn out in the heart of London to tell Trump he and his warmongering are not welcome."

Stop the War was founded in September 2001 in the weeks following 9/11, when George W. Bush announced the "war on terror". Stop the War has since been dedicated to preventing and ending the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and elsewhere. Stop the War opposes the British establishment's disastrous addiction to war and its squandering of public resources on militarism. We have initiated many campaigns around these issues.
