Global Warming ‘Is Three Times Faster Than Worst Predictions’

by Geoffrey Lean

Global warming is accelerating three times more quickly than feared, a series of startling, authoritative studies has revealed. They have found that emissions of carbon dioxide have been rising at thrice the rate in the 1990s. The Arctic ice cap is melting three times as fast - and the seas are rising twice as rapidly - as had been predicted.

News of the studies - which are bound to lead to calls for even tougher anti-pollution measures than have yet been contemplated - comes as the leaders of the world’s most powerful nations prepare for the most crucial meeting yet on tackling climate change.

The issue will be top of the agenda of the G8 summit which opens in the German Baltic resort of Heiligendamm on Wednesday, placing unprecedented pressure on President George Bush finally to agree to international measures.

Tony Blair flies to Berlin today to prepare for the summit with its host, Angela Merkel, the German chancellor. They will discuss how to tackle President Bush, who last week called for action to deal with climate change, which his critics suggested was instead a way of delaying international agreements.

Yesterday, there were violent clashes in the city harbour of Rostock between police and demonstrators, during a largely peaceful march of tens of thousands of people protesting against the summit.

The study, published by the US National Academy of Sciences, shows that carbon dioxide emissions have been increasing by about 3 per cent a year during this decade, compared with 1.1 per cent a year in the 1990s.

The significance is that this is much faster than even the highest scenario outlined in this year’s massive reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - and suggests that their dire forecasts of devastating harvests, dwindling water supplies, melting ice and loss of species are likely to be understating the threat facing the world.

The study found that nearly three-quarters of the growth in emissions came from developing countries, with a particularly rapid rise in China. The country, however, will resist being blamed for the problem, pointing out that its people on average still contribute only about a sixth of the carbon dioxide emitted by each American. And, the study shows, developed countries, with less than a sixth of the world’s people, still contribute more than two-thirds of total emissions of the greenhouse gas.

On the ground, a study by the University of California’s National Snow and Ice Data Center shows that Arctic ice has declined by 7.8 per cent a decade over the past 50 years, compared with an average estimate by IPCC computer models of 2.5 per cent.

In yesterday’s clashes, masked protesters hurled flagpoles, stones and bottles and attacked with sticks forcing police to retreat. The police said they were suffering “massive assaults” and that the situation was “very chaotic”. They put the size of the demonstration at 25,000; organizers said it was 80,000.

    Our epitath:

It’s been a full and fun life, kids. So sorry you won’t have a chance to enjoy it.

  2. commonman03 June 3rd, 2007 4:11 pm

All the more reason to delay response. We need to examine this more and determine how it will affect the economy, because, after all, the economic well being of the countries is more important than the ecological well being of the planet.

  3. jillo June 3rd, 2007 4:12 pm

You better ramp up the hysteria, since real scientists without an agenda are beginning to disprove your panic-inducing predictions. This article is not big surprise…but it is sad that you can’t see the forest for the trees. Global Warming and the catastrophy you are counting on won’t happen, isn’t happening, and humans can’t make it happen. Stop trying to scare the crap out of people with big hearts. The most likely answer for Global Warming is that we are coming out a a mini-ice age. Who are you to say that the current temp averages are the optimum and not temps which are a few degrees warmer? And if you were right, and warmer temps changed things drastically, and they did happen, who is to say that it’s not the normal way the earth changes? Volcanoes do a lot more towards earth climate change than humans ever do. So when you can control volcanoes you can then tell us what kind of car to drive and light bulb to use.

  4. Jaded Prole June 3rd, 2007 4:14 pm

    Jillo, such denial guarantees extinction.

  5. ebishirl June 3rd, 2007 4:26 pm

jillo, volcanoes can and have had a drastic impact on climate in the past, but we’re not exactly experiencing a rash of massive volcanic eruptions around the world lately … and carbon dioxide levels are still rising rapidly.

Who’s to say current temps aren’t optimum? Well, if you live anywhere near the ocean, or depend upon seasonal weather patterns to raise the crops that feed your family, or rely on meltwater runoff or rain for your water supply, chances are any changes that raise sea levels, increase the severity of summertime heat waves or diminish sources of snow and rainwater will definitely be less than optimal for you. You might be one of the lucky citizens of the Earth, and live in a moderate climate and an urban area with ample food and water supplies, but many billions are not so fortunate. They’re not complaining about having to switch to CFLs (no electricity anyway, probably) or hybrid cars (foot power rules for the world’s poor), but they’re watching the ocean’s saltwater creep into their island farms and kill the soil, or feeling the pain of years-long droughts.

  6. kelmer June 3rd, 2007 4:30 pm

I love Jillo’s line about Volacones because I like to use that to dispel the notion of human supremacy. if humans are a superior species to all others then surely it would be reflected in the laws of physics–meaning that a volcano would have to spew its lava in a way that avoids humans since they are so much more valueable than weeds and roaches–according to the infantile myth.

But what a strange contradiction that people on one hand will say humans can impact upon Nature, and are proud of it—-and then turn it around and say-no–humans cant impact upon nature because its too big.

If that is so then we dont need to worry about dumping poision in rivers or the air–since nothing we do can have an impact on ecosystems.

  7. funeocons June 3rd, 2007 4:37 pm

No real scientists without an agenda have disproven the anthropogenic impact on the environment. And it’s true, the earth will continue on, it just won’t sustain life as we know it (including us). When the seas rise due to global warming (primarily induced by the global north), hundreds of millions of people in the global south will be displaced. Will we let them into our countries? Where will they go? This “few degrees warmer” is already destroying the coral reefs, which sustain countless species and act as buffer against tidal waves and ocean flooding. There is an incredible ripple effect occuring, and it will probably impact us later than it will other areas of the planet (although, where I live, there is currently 3 times as much fine particulate matter in the air than the federal government allows, leading to huge increases in health problems (in my case, frequent migraines). But we are assured that, if you average it out over the course of the year, my fine state of AZ meets the Federal guidelines. As if we can breathe in the aggregate. That’s like saying, today, there is 5 times as much arsnic in the water, but over the course of the year, it averages out okay.

Volcanos are not doing “more” towards earth climate change, and cave men did not ride dinosaurs to church.

We could have saved it but we were too doggone cheap

“They will discuss how to tackle President Bush, who last week called for action to deal with climate change, which his critics suggested was instead a way of delaying international agreements.”

What a stupid statement! He didn’t call for action, he called for inaction and for a meeting in which he would bully China while adopting “voluntary setpoints” for the U.S.

Human-caused global warming is real. I have observed and felt it happening here in California; it is advancing, and it will claim all of us if we don’t stop it now.

When the disasters pile up, people like jillo will be among the first to whine to the government about it and scream for their Daddy in DC to do something to save them. Of course, the clowns in DC will be doing all they can to get their own asses to high and dry ground - especially the Republicans.

  11. Michael Hughes June 3rd, 2007 5:38 pm

Man, by himself, is a little too puny to affect the climate, but the machines he has made are not. The increase in CO2 in the atmosphere correlates very closely with the amount produced by the burning of fossil fuels; moreover, confirmation comes from measurements of the isotope ratios.

Volcanoes? At the present time they contribute no more than one or two percent as much as humans. In the past, massive volcanic activity certainly had a major effect.

As for Tony Blair, I wonder if anyone has told him that no WMDs have been found in Iraq? I wonder also what hold it is that Dubya has over him.

  12. cokids June 3rd, 2007 6:07 pm

And if people like Jillo are incorrect, should she and those who sell her point of view on OUR airwaves (Limbaugh, Beck, etc) daily be held accountable? How should that be done, if you agree that it should be?

Do we have precedents for this? Will the Supreme Court agree?

  13. toylit June 3rd, 2007 6:07 pm

The worse it gets, the better it gets! Human creativity, may at last be liberated from the nightmare of history by a trifecta of environmental, social and economic cataclysms.

This may be the liberation of the species, at the very end of its rope. No matter what any religeon or science proposes, we are without a doubt still a miracle wrapped in a mystery. It is inevitable that we will find the jewel of our unique consciousness through the vehicle of catastrophy. Oh no, we are dying, hooray we are being born.

  14. ricg June 3rd, 2007 6:13 pm

    Cokids:
If Jillo and his or her buddies are incorrect, and the real scientists are correct, then it’s not going to matter whether they are held accountable or not. The Supreme Court won’t matter.

What will matter will be that when the jillos realize what’s happening, that we make sure they get kicked off the island first. They’ll be easy to spot - they’ll have a dull, uncomprehending look on their faces and they’ll be whining and screaming and trying to cut to the head of the line.

  15. dlb June 3rd, 2007 6:54 pm

How many scientific studies are needed for some of us to see the truth?

Global human population growth was slow for thousands of years - until the Industrial Revolution when it began to soar exponentially. In 1880 the world population was 1 billion. 127 years later we’re at over 6 billion. Carbon dioxide levels have also been soaring since the Industrial Revolution. It’s unlikely that Earth will be able to sustain such growth for much longer. Everyday more and more forests are destroyed to make room for people and farmland. Trees play an important role in the carbon cycle and without them there is more CO2 released into the atmosphere.

We don’t need more studies, we need action!

  16. hwgarrison June 3rd, 2007 7:03 pm

Hey jillo…Why should we listen to you? Who are you and why should we think you’re credible? What peer reviewed scientific papers have you contributed to the issue? What evidence do you have that we should ignore global warming as you say? Come on put your money where your mouth is and support you statements.

You need to get your act together. All you’ve accomplished is sounding like another radical right-wing shill with no depth nor facts to support your rhetoric.

  17. ricshev June 3rd, 2007 7:12 pm

Something that the great purveyer of modern wisdom- Sting- sang twenty-five years ago holds true today. I have believed (and observed) since that only by truly taking his words into account can we (maybe) pull ourselves from the brink.

    “There is no political solution
    To our troubled evolution.
    Have no faith in constitution.
    There is no bloody revolution.

We are spirits in the material world…..”

And more of us better bloody-well realize it and act from a place beyond politics.

  18. Hide Behind June 3rd, 2007 8:02 pm

I don’t give a damn if it is man made, machine made or made by cow farts; all I want it to do is to be stopped. Any scientist who believes we as a people cannot help delay both the warming and its harmfull effects is as dumb as a Rock and so are the naysayers.
They, at the very least, are living in deliberate ignorance or just like being an adversary so some one will talk to them, because to admit to warming they may have to do something instead of sitting by a PC trying to appear as prophets of wisdom.
When are the people who are truly concerned about the planet they live on, the air they breathe, the water they drink and their childrens futures going to finall y tell those who are deliberately ignoring the plight are trying to kill you.
This is nto a time for scholastic discussion it is time for action and a time to tell those b…..s who care for nothing but their own needs, beliefs in religous pseudo science, and wealths toys to get the ,,,, out of the way we are taking over.
Until we do that we deserve to die as animals without abilitys to change their environemtn.

Fact: Global Warming. Cause: irrelevant. Advise: start brushing up on those survival skills. Energy, food, shelter, and especially defense. Cause when the unhinging starts, those who refused to accept the truth will be shooting at those who did.

  20. ike June 3rd, 2007 8:27 pm

The fundamental problem with taking action on global warming is that doing so will lead to the replacement of all fossil fuel energy sources with various forms of renewable energy (pssst…nuclear isn’t renewable).

This will lead to an overthrow of the existing economic order, which mostly revolves around control of fossil fuel sales - take, for example, ExxonMobil’s record $40 billion profit, all due to control of an essential energy resource. ExxonMobil is still using tobacco company propaganda strategies to prevent action on global warming - they fund ’scientific institutes’ that claim there is no evidence that fossil fuels cause warming. See www.exxonsecrets.org for the details.

Now, sunlight from the sky is free, as is wind - all you need is a technological device that 1) taps the energy and 2) stores the energy in a useful form. If you’ve got that, you can pull the plug on the oil corporations and coal corporations and electricity corporations, which provide the majority of income for Wall Street.

The technology to do this already exists, but hasn’t been developed due to political and economic interference by fossil fuel interests, who don’t want to see their market share evaporate - it’s not too hard to understand. See www.internalcombustionbook.com for a good description of how this situation arose.

  21. Jan Steinman June 3rd, 2007 8:55 pm

dlb wrote: “Global human population growth was slow for thousands of years… In 1880 the world population was 1 billion. 127 years later we’re at over 6 billion.”

The GOOD NEWS is that the source of that growth is going away.

If you plot human population over time on top of energy use over time, there’s a perfect correlation. While it’s true that “correlation is not causation,” it’s also been said that “if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck.”

Energy is the essential non-renewable resource that will put the brakes on human population. It remains to be seen if those brakes can slow it down fast enough to keep the by-products of energy use from killing us and everything else first, but it is absolutely true that as available energy declines, so shall human population.

“But what about renewable sources of energy?” You need energy to produce energy. A solar panel requires 100 times its weight in petroleum to produce. While there are small, demonstration projects that produce renewable energy via renewable energy, the influence of fossil energy still leaves its fingerprints on them.

So rejoice, and go about your energy-mad ways. When it’s gone, it’s gone. Then we can start re-building.

  22. RandB June 3rd, 2007 9:49 pm

There is a word that would be useful in these discussions. That is “prudence”. What is the prudent course of action?

Currently the administration seems to be taking the stand that if we cannot prove beyond a shadow of a doubt (their doubt) that global warming is largely a problem caused by the activities of man, then we must not disrupt the economy. They also believe that if they are wrong that science and technology will solve the problems. If they are wrong in these beliefs we will be in serious difficulties. But the choir knows this, and we mostly know what the prudent actions are. These actions do not change much even if we conceed the possibility that jillo’s arguments might be correct and worth consideration, because the prudent course of action is still to put on the brakes while studying the question. To not take action until jillo’s arguments may be proven wrong is reckless and irresponsible. It is time to bring “prudence” into the discussion and have this administration addressing what is prudent course of action to take TODAY on global warming while research proceeds on understanding better what is happening.

I dislike the heavy pollution and carbon emissions as much or more than anybody, however they are not the predominant cause of Global Warming. I used to believe that we were responsible for Global Warming with our heavy CO2 emissions, but the entire Solar System is warming up and I don’t believe we are responsible for that one. Place is just a bit too big for us to screw up.

Solar activity, based upon observed historical solar cycles should be low at this point in time, but it is not. The sun has been putting out enormous flares and Coronal Mass Ejections, or CME’s, of late. The heaving ionizing radiation penetrates our atmosphere and causes more clouds to form, in effect giving us a nice warm blankie to sleep under.

The economics of energy production must change for us to get anywhere with alternative energy. The inventions are out there. Independent thinking scientists are developing many new energy technologies that are completely non-polluting. Trouble is, The Powers That Be want to squeeze every last dime out of us by constructing exorbitant fees that are based upon the particular resource’s depletion allowance. If they can charge pollution fees on top of that, we’re screwed folks.

Bottom line, we have to move towards renewable energetic creation on our own with no help from TPTB. There are more innovative inventions squirreled away in the deep dark bowels of corporate America than Carter has pills. We have the ability to create new and innovative solutions and we need to put them to use to solve the problem, energy.

Our impact on the total environment is not good, but we alone are not causing Global Warming. That big old yellow ball in the sky is heating up and the entire Solar System is feeling the effects of it. It’s a much larger issue that we are being lead to believe, so let’s start thinking large.

  24. ezeflyer June 3rd, 2007 11:25 pm

Today Lewis Lapham on C-Span suggested that Repugs are united and liberals and progressives are not. That they have the Heritage Foundation, The American Enterprise Institute, CATO and other propagandists while progressives can’t get the truth out because we can’t get together and constantly argue among ourselves. It’s our diversity I guess. Good sociology, bad strategy.

If you will notice, it is mostly the Greens that are out there protesting. Besides a few celebs and some token dem organizations, most Dems seem to prefer to stay at home watching meager, if any coverage of events on tv and avoiding the tear gas, rubber bullets, police batons, attack dogs and the chance of being profiled. Greens are always out there doing the heavy lifting and getting criticised by Dems for their effort. Isn’t it time progressives gave Greens all their support?

    GLOBAL WARMINGDIVERSION.
After six years of stonewalling & deception to impede global warming mitigation, Bush now throws a bone to appease the world community with comparable meaningless rhetoric. The dangerous manipulation of essential scientific data used by his team to conceal and derail corrective measures for this threat and other vital environmental reforms has always been apparent–and the ambiguaty of his recent statements show that their motives have not changed.

Contrary to their assertions, measures to reduce greenhouse gases could only improve our economy by lessening our trade deficits, and improving our security by reducing our dependance on foreign oil. We could also regain some of our lost world respect that has resulted from our opposition Kyoto while arrogantly contributing disproportionally to carbon pollution.
Evidence linking carbon pollution to warming has been as close to certain as science can be for many years. Its causes, consequences, and mitigation requirements have been documented by many dedicated environmental organizations including The Union of Concerned Scientists.

Often overlooked is the fact that the same measures needed to mitigate global warming would be necessary even if it were not an issue. Conservation, alternative energy development, anti- pollution refinements, etc are essential for other vital environmental reforms such as air and water quality, reductions in toxic waste generation, land preservation, etc.

The environmental and social damage from our indifference to carbon pollution and related environmental measures can only worsen if we allow this reckless and unlearned president to continue this war on the environment.

Perhaps we need to be more direct in our actions, but we must not make the mistake of separating ourselves into two opposing camps - us and them. We can gain more by standing up for positive change rather than standing in opposition to “them.” Feeding the conflict will simply continue the conflict as opposing sides dig in for the duration. Perhaps we can develope new strategies to let people know just how committed we are to change. Let’s, for example, organize events in several cities on the same day by which thousands of us walk to work, school, etc. - on the freeways and interstates and major traffic arteries. Just walk arm in arm right down the center of the road. Nothing personal against those who decide to drive, just show your commitment to saving the planet No taunting or bashing of corporations or administrations - just silently march, holding up traffic and delaying business as usual. The effects can be dramatic. Just imagine.

The ones who control energy are not taking a stand that is visible, cautious or otherwise.
They are stalling as have so many monopolys done throughout history.
Stall until they will still control the financial means behind selling the new or even improved energy factors.
It is not China that stands the most to lose by a green revolution for in fact China is still one of the most energy effecient entitys on earth.
People have to stop thinkng of energy as just Carbon based electrical or mechanicly run deviuces. Manual labor is an energy saving device. Some so called enrgy saving devices are in fact energy ineffecient, as take PVC window frames that take more energy to produce than they will ever be able to save over a renewable wood frame.
Like one person wrote solar takes much more energy from carbon base than it will actually produce in its lifetime. the actual figures is barrells of oil and in energy fields carbon usage for energy is around 49% while rest is chemical usage.
Wind power as of this date is costly to build and maintain and tech is lagging even in gearbox design, note an India firms recent buying of Euro and US gearbox manufacturing sites. Energy returns after dedcuting energy to build is almost three years.
In the US we are going to the least efecient most costly means of bio fuel corn. Corn which demands much chemical fertilization takes from human and animal feed and after it is in place one will still be buying from same firms who now control the sale of enrgy.
An oft overlooked problem in US is we lose around 3% of our farmlands topsoil yearly and the watter needed to supply the future high yeield corn fieldsds will more than triple.
If anyone thinks that the same Global forces who now control the worlds economy will still not be doing so after all this energy change is done is loco.
Note that in every eurocentric nation it is the taxpayers who are being asked to fund the new forms and research of them.
In every nation nucler energy is subsidized by the people, from energy production, storage of spent fuel to building the plants.
They will stall and wage wars until it is sure they have everything well within their hands.
I notice some who are very afraid of the economic consequences and call for prudence; yes prudence, so they can still be comfortable set in their ways for awhile longer.
The not in my neighborhood syndrome.

I think Jilio may have a point. I believe that once the oceans rise, humans will evolve into merpeople… with fins and gills. As people like Jilio point out, this is just a normal cycle of the earth—a natural progression. So there’s no need to try to stop our part in it.
As George Bush says, “I belive humans and fish can peacefully coexist. ” See… even he knows we are getting ready to evolve! I just hope you like sushi.

  31. jonathanmark June 4th, 2007 7:59 am

i have noticed the exponential rate of increase of the warming since the Larsen B ice shelf collapse. you can check our resources on this subject at www.FlybyNews.com

“Mounting Evidence of Extreme Global Warming”

Also.. note information on a potential solution to lower rate of human’s carbon emission into our atmosphere by this engine for converting industrial (waste) processed heat for clean new electrical energy generation.. www.rgpsystems.com

Whatever we can do to slow the accelerating rate is important, especially for current and near future generations.

Google “trolls” and you’ll find this kind of blog participant is best ignored.

  34. fedayeen June 4th, 2007 11:37 am

Actually humans and fish can’t coexist as long as humans over fish and deplete the fish. Check out the whiting season so far. No catch!!! and the fishermen are the ones that voluntarily quit fishing, of course, their catch was only 1 to 3 inches long and not viable as a commercial resource. Think we don’t have any effect on the environment? Think again, over saturation of the ocean with CO2 makes it acidic, preventing the small creatures ability to form shells which means that the food chain is being broken from the bottom up. Wonder how long humans will continue to deny the fact that we are all connected in the circle of life? Keep on denying it won’t matter a bit, until we can address this problem in an effective way we are doomed, no matter what rhetoric is used. Humans are a fluke of the universe and have no right to be here, the experiment in opposable thumbs is over, it failed!!

I think you got that wrong, Curlybird. I’ve been an amateur radio operator for decades, and have personally observed three solar cycles, because they influence long-distance radio wave propagation. I also note from the May 5 Science News (page 286) that scientists at NOAA say that we are currently at a solar minimum, with flares and CMEs at or near their eleven-year low. The next peak is predicted for late 2011 to mid 2012, after which, it will decline for 5-7 years. The solar minimums and maximums over the 24 cycles that have been scientifically observed are neither increasing nor decreasing.

    http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20070505/note15ref.asp

I would also like to see some references for solar weather affecting Earth weather. To my knowledge, flares and CMEs have no impact on the average earth temperature — otherwise, you would see a strong eleven-year cyclic component in earth temperatures, which to my knowledge, just isn’t there. The main impact of solar weather on Earth life appears to be sporadic piercing the ozone layer, which can result in temporary increases of UV at the planet’s surface, which can damage vegetation and other life.

Solar weather *does* affect the Earth’s “electromagnetic weather,” if you will. Solar storms can damage communications satellites and power grids, and cause increased auroral activity and high frequency radio propagation.

But unless you can point me to a reference on an Earth temperature linkage to solar activity, I’m afraid you should go read some real science, instead of the “junk science” that your information seemingly comes from.

  36. dingoboy June 4th, 2007 12:26 pm

The only people still denying global warming are the ones too lazy to crawl out of their SUVs and look around them. It only takes
a glance at the profile of any city to see the obvious corellation between people and their machines and smog. Where I live, in Canada,
there have been several consecutive days of smog alerts already this year and in this case, (although not always) the smog is coming
from the U.S.A. where I imagine “jillo” lives, in a hummer.
If you’re too stupid to read the studies or even observe the world around you, please at least, spare the rest of us your attempts
to convert us to your way of misinterpreting the world around you. It’s depressing to experience such ignorance and denial at this
    late stage of the game.

There is a Christian longing for and anticipation of the ultimate catastrophe that will bring about a new world. Better to do something to change the world for the better than indulging in romantic terrible catastrophe fantasies.

Although China’s per capita CO-2 emissions are beneath ours, they will continue to close the gap as they are building a new coal fired power plant every week. Australia actually has higher per capita emission than the United States. However all these points are merely of academic interest. One can argue that China’s per capita emissions are low. One can argue that their pollution is mainly from making the world’s junk. But try to explain that to Larsen B and to the polar bears.
We don’t have the luxury of allowing China to continue their counterpart to our Industrial Revolution. (India is right up there as well)There isn’t time. There isn’t leeway. The wealthy nations need to act now and the poorer nations need to act now.
We can’t afford to take anyone out of the equation.

I would like to know one thing,
what makes any of you even think we can stop it?????
do you actually think, if you BUY a “green” car or change your light bulbs you are going to stop global warming?????
Momma will shake us off in 2 seconds.
has anyone here looked into the magnetic pole shift????
This too has to do w/ global warming. Humans are just accelerating it.
I’ts really sad that people actually think we can “curb” this politically. what a JOKE!
Tell me, how many times has this earth changed in the past millions of years?????
do you think it will stop changing because We are here????
    Think again.
This earth is a living, breathing organism.
It is not a “thing” that we can just change at whim.
We are here to take care of the earth,
the earth is NOT here to “take care of” us.
we keep taking and not putting back.
So yeah, it is only a matter of time before she shakes us off like the virus we are.
    Can’t blame her really.

  41. dingoboy June 4th, 2007 8:38 pm

luna, we are not here to “take care of the earth”. As another reader put it, the bees and the worms are the stewards of earth, not
us. But we too are children of the universe, just like the bees and the worms.
And we could slow global warming, if we were wiser and acted appropriately. But we’re not and we don’t. Of course the planet won’t
    stop changing.
But just because we’ve messed things up doesn’t mean we can’t try to make things better.

I get so depressed reading idiots that have eyes but don’t see, ears but don’t hear. Look guys, global warming is a reality. At least most of the deniers have now moved to the it-doesn’t-really-matter or we-can’t-do-anything-anyway camps. It is difficult enough for those of us with a sense of responsibility to try fixing the problem without having to haul you guys, too. If you can’t help, at least don’t hinder.

  43. Weesa05 June 10th, 2007 1:57 pm

Please realize that global warming was and is supposed to happen. It was just a matter of time before it started to become more of a serious matter. Lets use the human body for example. We are born, grow, then die. The earth is a living thing. It is dying. We all have contributed to global warming, some more than others. But its a part of life. The earth is a living thing. Earthquakes, tsunamis, tornado’s, etc are the earths way of defending itself from harm just as we have white blood cells to help defend our bodies when in danger. The awful part about this is that our government knows so much more than we do. They are simply taking advantage of us. They are trying to freak everyone out and do try their hardest to convince us that by buying hybrids, buying special bulbs, buying this and that will help. NEWS FLASH!!! IT WONT!!!! It can only slow down the inevitable!!!!! They are using global warming as a tool to get more money!!!! It is just a matter of time when we will no longer be here. All of history to man kind…..GONE!!! Earth may rebuild itself and start all over again. Do we have proof that this never happened before millions of years ago? No.
So regardless if global warming is whats worrying everyone, ever stop to think about the many other strong possibilities that will bring us to the end!!??? World War 3 maybe??? Or a little something occurring in 2010, a T-Square alignment involving Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto—a rare alignment and a profound symbol connoting societal and socio-economic transformation. According to many astronomers, planets will be aligning in the yr 2010 creating a wave which will throw off the earths axis… BIG TIME! One or the other is going to kill us all.

And if you truly felt so damn strongly about global warming and how to make a difference then get off your computer right now!! You’re using electricity which is emitting emissions into the air. Instead of reading all these comments, go out and make a difference-a positive one! We are making a difference right now by contributing to global warming typing out comments to fulfill our need to be heard out of anger and or frustration. This is ridiculous.

Let’s get it together people, we don’t have much time left!!!
