Trump's New Health Care Executive Order Distracts From Real Health Care Issues for Small Business

Small businesses fear losing critical protections for pre-existing conditions.

WASHINGTON

As President Trump tries to distract from his sabotage of the Affordable Care Act with this health care announcement and executive order this week, Executive Director of the Main Street Alliance, Amanda Ballantyne had this to say:

"With the decision on the Texas v US ACA lawsuit eminent, President Trump's new Medicare plan doubles down on his support for the private insurance industry and seeks to expand privatization of the Medicare program.

Since taking office, Trump and his administration have relentlessly attacked the Affordable Care Act, seeking to roll back protections for the over 130 million people with pre-existing conditions and leaving 22 million people at the mercy of insurance and pharmaceutical companies. Trump's NAFTA 2.0 would extend monopolies and lock in higher drug prices for at least a decade.

This new proposal ignores the real health insurance crisis facing small business owners. Instead of propping up private industry and big pharma, the President should work with the democrats on the Lower Drugs Costs Now Act and hold insurance companies accountable for rigging the system."

The Main Street Alliance (MSA) is a national network of small business coalitions working to build a new voice for small businesses on important public policy issues. Main Street Alliance members are working throughout the country to build policies that work for business owners, their employees, and the communities they serve.
