Allowing the Destruction of Palestine, We Die Hungry Too
Today's New York Times highlights the plight of the Samouni family in
Gaza who lost eleven of their members despite their calls to the Red
Cross to help them evacuate from Gaza, and after the order from the
Israeli military forces, who occupied their home, to relocate to
another building. Masouda al-Samouni lost her husband, mother in law
and her 10 month old son for whom she had been preparing food. "He died
hungry," she said.
Let us set aside the business of occupation and military aggression
for a moment and reflect on the words of Major Avital Leibovich, a
spokesman for the Israeli Defence Forces who repeats the oft repeated:
Hamas has built its network among civilians and therefore civilians are
collateral damage. The entire Gaza strip is 360 square km. That is just
about 50 sq. km. larger than New York City. Should the rest of the
neighboring states here decide to surround the city of New York, cut
off access to it or departure from it, ignore its elected leaders,
withold its legally earned revenue, set up refugee camps and
periodically bulldoze them as well as adjoining neighborhoods, starve
the people, cut off their water and their electricity and prevent the
supply of humanitarian aid, where would the city's resistance reside?
I'm guessing that it wouldn't be congregating en masse down 5th Avenue.
In the occupied territories of Palestine - and I call them that
because we are all intelligent enough to know that occupation does not
have to mean physical presence, it is the power to deny human freedoms
and to prevent the right to the conduct of normal life - there are no
families left who have not suffered a loss at the hands of the IDF.
That makes every Gazan a victim. That makes every Gazan have anger
toward the IDF. That does not make every Gazan deserving of murder.
Collateral damage is an easy term to toss around. The term
collateral comes from the Latin and its meaning is not only "parallel,"
it is also "additional but subordinate." The United States military
defines it as being damage that "is not unlawful so long as it is not
excessive in light of the military advantage anticipated by the
attack." Since when is the premeditated murder of an innocent human
being, "subordinate" to anything? How, exactly, do we define "excess?"
Would we have mourned less if nobody had gone to work on 9/11 and only
a few janitors and an over-zealous upper manager or two were killed? Is
there a certain number after which we begin to pay attention? When our
basic human instinct to feel for one another, to mourn the death of
another like us, kicks in?
In 1994, Lt. Gen. Romeo Dallaire watched as his troops, sent for
peace-keeping, were withdrawn over the death of ten Belgian soldiers.
He went on to write a book, Shake Hands With The Devil: The Failure of
Humanity in Rwanda, in which he poses the question, why did the deaths
of ten Belgians matter so greatly, and the death of eight hundred
thousand Rwandans matter so little?
The question for us today is the same. We have the UN inside
Palestine, along with numerous other organizations including the Red
Cross. Apparently, we care enough to maintain an international presence
that can help eleviate the suffering of the people of Palestine. But we
don't care enough to stop the continuing massacre of those people. We
don't care enough to set aside our polite requests by international
governments, not specific leaders, and our little European delgations
flying hither and yon asking for a bit of mercy on behalf of those
people, to put our feet down in the soil inside Palestine and say no.
In 2003, a 23 year old American activist, Rachel Corrie, had the
guts to do what we refuse to do. She stood before a caterpillar
bulldozer being driven by the IDF, to ask that they not destroy the
home of a Palestinian family. Despite the attemts of her fellow
activists to contact the American embassy, and the knowledge of the IDF
about the presence of Rachel and other International Solidarity
Movement volunteers in Rafah, Rachel was killed as her friends watched.
This country came together, not so long ago, to bring about a
transformation that the world never expected of it. During those twenty
months, and right up to the day of the presidential elections, we were
all Rachel Corries, we were simply doing her work inside America. So
long as we consider that to be sufficient contribution to the progress
we desire, to the peace we seek, and to the change we want, we will all
die hungry.

Show AllWhat follows are the lyrics from Tom Waits’ CD, Orphans (2006)
TOM WAITS lyrics to the song
Road To Peace
Young Abdel Mahdi (Shahmay) was only 18 years old,
He was the youngest of nine children, never spent a night away from home.
And his mother held his photograph, opening the New York Times
To see the killing has intensified along the road to peace
There was a tall, thin boy with a whispy moustache disguised as an orthodox Jew
On a crowded bus in Jerusalem, some had survived World War Two
And the thunderous explosion blew out windows 200 yards away
With more retribution and seventeen dead along the road to peace
Now at King George Ave and Jaffa Road passengers boarded bus 14a
In the aisle next to the driver Abdel Mahdi (Shahmay)
And the last thing that he said on earth is “God is great and God is good”
And he blew them all to kingdom come upon the road to peace
Now in response to this another kiss of death was visited upon
Yasser Taha, Israel says is an Hamas senior militant
And Israel sent four choppers in, flames engulfed, tears wide open
And it killed his wife and his three year old child leaving only blackened skeletons
It’s found his toddlers bottle and a pair of small shoes and they waved them in front of the cameras
But Israel says they did not know that his wife and child were in the car
There are roadblocks everywhere and only suffering on TV
Neither side will ever give up their smallest right along the road to peace
Israel launched it’s latest campaign against Hamas on Tuesday
Two days later Hamas shot back and killed five Israeli soldiers
So thousands dead and wounded on both sides most of them middle eastern civilians
They fill the children full of hate to fight an old man’s war and die upon the road to peace
“And this is our land we will fight with all our force” say the Palastinians and the Jews
Each side will cut off the hand of anyone who tries to stop the resistance
If the right eye offends thee then you must pluck it out
And Mahmoud Abbas said Sharon had been lost out along the road to peace
Once Kissinger said “we have no friends, America only has interests”
Now our president wants to be seen as a hero and he’s hungry for re-election
But Bush is reluctant to risk his future in the fear of his political failures
So he plays chess at his desk and poses for the press 10,000 miles from the road to peace
In the video that they found at the home of Abdel Mahdi (Shahmay)
He held a Kalashnikov rifle and he spoke with a voice like a boy
He was an excellent student, he studied so hard, it was as if he had a future
He told his mother that he had a test that day out along the road to peace
The fundamentalist killing on both sides is standing in the path of peace
But tell me why are we arming the Israeli army with guns and tanks and bullets?
And if God is great and God is good why can’t he change the hearts of men?
Well maybe God himself is lost and needs help
Maybe God himself he needs all of our help
Maybe God himself is lost and needs help
He’s out upon the road to peace
Well maybe God himself is lost and needs help
Maybe God himself he needs all of our help
And he’s lost upon the road to peace
And he’s lost upon the road to peace
Out upon the road to peace.
i'm familiar with this mournful song, but I don't agree with it's sentiment. Palestine could turn into a land of 3 million Gandhis, and indeed, there were long periods of peace in the years since 1967, but Isreal only accelerated it's settlement building and slow but sure ethnic cleansing during these periods.
If Gandhi himself were a Palestinian, he would have been shot dead long in obscurity.
And that would have been that.
---USAn---
I agree with you concerning the fact that there is a complete imbalance of forces - suicide bombers are driven by desperation rather than hatred - the fact that people are prepared to become suicide bombers sahows just how desparate they have become under conditions imposed on them by the occupation of their land and the systematic destruction of their human dignity - but where is the road to peace? Surely it is with us outside of Palestine forced to witness this senseless brutality. It is also with the resistance inside Palestine... but those who resist do not do so out of hatred but for the love of freedom and the desire for human dignity.
When you leave a man nothing to lose, he has nothing to fear.
Walk in peace.
If Gandhi were a Palestinian he would have encouraged them to make peace with their enemies and recognize Israel. This war would have been over long ago.
Now you have gone too far MikeP putting words in Ghandi's mouth that are 180 degrees from his real views:
""The cry for the national home for the Jews does not make much appeal to me. The sanction for it is sought in the Bible and the tenacity with which the Jews have hankered after return to Palestine. Why should they not, like other peoples of the earth, make that country their home where they are born and where they earn their livelihood? Palestine belongs to the Arabs in the same sense that England belongs to the English or France to the French. It is wrong and in-human to impose the Jews on the Arabs. What is going on in Palestine today cannot be justified by any moral code of conduct. The mandates have no sanction but that of the last war. Surely it would be a crime against humanity to reduce the proud Arabs so that Palestine can be restored to the Jews partly or wholly as their national home.
The nobler course would be to insist on a just treatment of the Jews wherever they are born and bred. The Jews born in France are French in precisely the same sense that Christians born in France are French. If the Jews have no home but Palestine, will they relish the idea of being forced to leave the other parts of the world in which they are settled? Or do they want a double home where they can remain at will? This cry for the national home affords a colourable justification for the German expulsion of the Jews.
I am not defending the Arab excesses. I wish they had chosen the way of non-violence in resisting what they rightly regarded as an unwarrantable encroachment upon their country. But according to the accepted canons of right and wrong, nothing can be said against the Arab resistance in the face of overwhelming odds.
Let the Jews who claim to be the chosen race prove their title by choosing the way of non-violence for vindicating their position on earth. Every country is their home including Palestine not by aggression but by loving service. A Jewish friend has sent me a book called The Jewish Contribution to Civilization by Cecil Roth. It gives a record of what the Jews have done to enrich the world's literature, art, music, drama, science, medicine, agriculture, etc. Given the will, the Jew can refuse to be treated as the outcaste of the West, to be despised or patronized. He can command the attention and respect of the world by being man, the chosen creation of God, instead of being man who is fast sinking to the brute and forsaken by God. They can add to their many contributions the surpassing contribution of non-violent action."

Can't get much clearer than that can you MikeP? Is your crow delicious tonight or does it need a little salt?
By the way. Rachael Corrie was a terrorist sympathizer and wrote about watching weapons being smuggled in through a tunnel. She was brave, but a terrorist. No loss.
What specific acts of terrorism did Rachel Corrie commit?
She stood in front of an Israeli armored bulldozer that was illegally knocking down Palestinian homes and got crushed by it's treads, getting the pristine Israeli machine all messy.
Such a naughty girl!
Walk in peace.
This is why I bought a riot gun and buckshot.
Skip the buckshot bud. I go with sluggers. Shotgun shells with 1 oz. slugs.
That fine young lady is not on this Earth to defend her self, you piece of trash!
Don't let these Zionists rile you up too much over on digg they admitted they coordinate their attacks via internet chat, they are in their bad cop phase now trying to bait people to say anti Semitic things, don't fall for it...
Are you one of those guys over on digg.com that makes Rachel Corre "pancake" jokes? :( Good thing you are posting among adults here and not amongst kidz like digg and you know that won't fly too well over here.
You have hardened your heart and your conscience is now empty young man is that satisfying to you? Hint the Nazis who killed 6 million of your people did the exact thing with terrible consequences for the world, so you might want to see a shrink about those sociopathic tendencies, OK?
What's the proper oven temperature for roasted goose?
BTW... Venezuela just cut the emergency oil shipments that were keeping the poorest Americans supplied with heating oil for the winter months.
Is it correct to do so?
YES!
The only way Israel will stop commiting this egregious crime against humanity is if it's largest weapons supplier is brought economicly to it's knees.
That means you, USA.
To Goose4: You are a goose-stepping moron who should be reading books instead of burning them. I personally hope you are one of those whose home is heated with the emergency oil. May you freeze in the dark.
First, Venezuela cut its oil shipments not because of Israel, but because with the decline in oil prices and the economic problems it can no longer afford to give it away.
Second, Israel is not now nor has never been dependent on American arms, which actually weaken her. Keep in mind that Israel has existed in one form or another for over 3,000 years now, and was around for a very long time before there ever was a US. It is more than capable of defending itself on its own. Always has been, and always will be. Remember that the Palestinians are probably the most ineffective fighters the world has ever seen (with the possible exception of the US military, which is the ultimate joke) and are incapable of planning or carrying out any serious kind of military action. That's why they resort to using their kids as suicide bombers; it's all are capable of. Do you really think Israel isn't capable of defeating these people without help? I mean, come on. Get real. They've already been thoroughly defeated. All that's left is making them acknowledge it. Hopefully these attacks will do the trick, but if not, there's no rush. This can go on for generations if the Palestinians want. But there's no way they can win.
Fine.
Give us back our foreign aid and weapons.
We need the resources here and shouldn't be subsiding some little pocket of brutality on our dime.
In your arrogant cockiness, you would be well advised that pride comes before a fall.
Look at this guy over here! Trying to get a rise out of people! It's almost cute. Poor Mikey P didn't get enough attention and so he lives his life vicariously through some military organization. Hey Mike, want some attention!? Enlist. Go fight in a war.
And here it is again. How the hell do you know why Venezuela cut its oil shipments?
If that's really true then please tell Israel to stop sucking 6 billion a year from the American tax payer to pay for its crimes against humanity! Thanks! I want my 10 bucks back that was used to maim some kid in Gaza. :(
"They've already been thoroughly defeated. All that's left is making them acknowledge it. "
How are you going to do that give the entire Gaza strip a swirlie? Of course Israel and her defenders aren't overtly cruel self centered bullies how could I ever think that?
I see the Zionist shills are in their bad cop phase now trying to bait people to say anti Semitic things, SIGH!

What world events over the past few years have taught me is that the riches of the world and the the obedience of it's people belong to the violent, ruthless and powerful. The only really existing morality in the world is the iron fist of State Power. Resistance is futile.
For the genuinely conscientious and compassionate, the world gives them poverty and powerlessness.
That's just the way humanity is and always will be.
---USAn---
>>For the genuinely conscientious and compassionate, the world gives them poverty and powerlessness.
That is true only so long as "the genuinely conscientious and compassionate" go about on their own, minding just their own business, or think that their democratic duty ends with just casting a vote every now and then.
How do African buffalo defend themselves from lions? By sticking together and staying alert.
But the same buffalo obviously didn't stand a chance against the 'superior' white man in America - nor did the natives who lived alongside. But that's another story, and I'm not sure not many would consider that even relevant :)
Highintel: Can we do better?
Who said the consciencious are minding their own business?
I will be among many other people with a conscinece in DC next to the White House this Saturday. I encourage everyone to get out there.
But will it change anything? No. The media and government will ignore and memory-hole it. No one will know it happened.
It might change something if we angrily storm the gates of the White House, or the hotel nearby where Obama is staying. But the Peace pigs who organize the event wouldn't think of such an action, and some of them would even turn those who would plan such things in to the FBI.

Goose4 (pronounced with soft 'G") is so inspirational:
A rabbi is driving down the street when he crashes into a car driven by a priest. Both cars are wrecked but amazingly neither driver is hurt. After they crawl out of their cars, the rabbi sees the priest's collar and says, "So you're a priest. I'm a rabbi. Just look at our cars. There's nothing left, but we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God. God must have meant that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace the rest of our days."
The priest says, "I agree with you completely. This must be a sign from God."
The rabbi continues, "And look at this. Here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our shared good fortune."
So he opens the bottle and hands it to the priest. The priest thanks him, takes a drink, and tries to give the bottle back. But the rabbi politely urges him to have another drink, so the priest takes another. Then he tries to give the bottle back again, but the rabbi shakes his head.
The priest asks, "Aren't you having any?"
The rabbi says, "No, I'll just wait for the police."

David van Wyk - you are repeating the often mentioned but unsupported assertion that suicide bombers "are driven by desperation rather than hatred". This statement is questionable at best. Even if you don't accept that "desperation" is a relative state between societies (the same person can go hungry in NYC, but live quite well in the mid-west), Muslims do not have a world-wide monopoly on misery. And yet, a disproportionate number of suicide bombers are Muslim (this is my impression; I'd be happy if someone where to show hard facts proving/disproving it). In fact, if one had nothing to live for, then there would be little reason to exalt and reward martyrdom in the way that most radical Islamic terrorist organizations do. What is more likely is that a suicide terrorist is "manufactured" by careful training and brainwashing (certianly supported by this article: http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-20021002-000011.html). Once you accept that suicide bombers are manufactured by leaders who (apparently) care nothing for their "weapons" - it makes a lot more sense that Hamas is intentionally conducting military operations not just from within urbanized areas, but from within places of mass public congregation (schools, mosques, hospitals) so as to maximize the deterrent effect against the Israeli army. Incidentally, such action by Hamas would be completely unnecessary, unless they believed that the Israeli army would hesitate to fire on areas where there will likely be high civilian casualties (certainly something to think about for all the posters who think Israel just wants to kill as many innocent Palestinians that it can - something of a modern "blood libel" if you ask me).
I'd be happy if you could do your own research and come up with some "hard facts" proving or disproving your own statements. I really don't care about your impression, one way or another.
Can someone please provide me with some facts that will prove my opinions? PLEASE? I'm too bored/lazy/illiterate/important/etc. to do it on my own.
Deleted.
If you are lazy, bored and apathetic, why are you arguing? :) For easy reference, buy "Dying to Win" and "Imperial Hubris," as mentioned above. This impression about "Islamic Terrorism" is too pervasive not to be addressed.
manatee...thanks for catching the sarcasm. I thought someone might take that 2nd part seriously. I normally wouldn't just acc...HOLY CRAP!!! DID YOU GUYS SEE THAT!?!? ANDERSON COOPER IS REPORTING BREAKING NEWS! APPARENTLY THERE IS A GAZA "HUMANITARIAN CRISIS"! OMG! HAVE ANY OF YOU HEARD OF SUCH A THING?
"And yet, a disproportionate number of suicide bombers are Muslim (this is my impression; I'd be happy if someone where to show hard facts proving/disproving it)" Very well, then.
"The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam are the world's leading suicide terrorism organization." Dying to Win, P. 139 The Tigers are a secular group of Hindu origin and like most other terrorist groups, their motives are political, not relgious.
Among the so-called "Islamic" terror group Hezbollah, only 8 of 38 were Islamists and 3 were Christians. The rest were SECULAR groups, like the Lebanese Communist party. Dying to Win, P. 205
In addition to reading the book, "Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism," read "Imperial Hubris." Alhtough the first is more meticulous and scholarly, both explain that terrorism movtivated primarily by POLITICAL issues, not religion.
The Israel/Palestine dispute is primarily a LAND dispute. If I asked you to hand over your keys to your house so I could give it to a victim of someone else's crime? No, you wouldn't. No one would, yet people argue that Palestine should have handed over its land to atone for Nazi crimes. The Palestinians are angry at Israel for terrorizing them and gobbling up their land. If they had been Christians, Hindus, or Atheists, the anger would have been the same.
Excellent post thanks for a factual logical refutation of yet another Hasbara talking point.
Don't forget the Viet-Minh fighters against the colonial French. A fighter would have explosives strapped to his body, he'd toll down to the base of the wall of a French fort, blowing a hole in the wall through which his comrades would stream in.
And I remember the horrific films of the "barbecued Buddists" as the ghastly Mme Nu called the monks who set themselves ablaze in protest at the ill-treatment of Buddhists by the Christian government.
Suicide is generally an act of desperation, sometimes an act of revenge, sometimes both as when men kill their children and themselves in order to hurt the children's mother.
Rainborowe
I read an interesting article on this subject in which the author had conducted a study to determine the underlying reasons behind suicide bombings. They asked questions of relatives friends etc to see if the reasons we are told every day had any basis in fact. The results were as you might expect. In almost every instance the person or persons carrying out the act had witnessed unspeakable acts of unprovoked violence on a family member or dear friend. In many cases multiple family members. The notion that Palestinians are genetically predisposed to suicide bombing is simply racist. The survey concluded that multiple virgins awaiting in heaven also came in as rather low as an enticement. The 4th largest military in the world 100%armed and financed by the most powerful military (technologically speaking, the soldiers are no ?different)the world has ever known , up against stones light arms and home made rockets ? Suicide is when there is nothing left, like the woman of Masada who threw their own children from the cliff at their enemies. Its crazy alright but history shows that people with their back against the wall will do unusual things to protect themselves. In the bigger picture though Israel gains by blowing out of proportion the bogeyman of Hamas to justify its absurdly militarized citizenry. The boss calls for it,part of Full Spectrum Dominance no??............
Demos those who joined the struggle against Apartheid in South Africa were volunteers, those who defended Apartheid were conscripts. This is the difference between liberation/resistance movements and the armies of oppressive regimes. Those fighting on the Israeli Army have no choice (so much for Israeli Democracy). One wonders what would happen if compulsory military service was removed in Israel? Those who join the Palestinian resistance do so despite the enormous odds against them in terms of the imbalance of military forces... they have a legitimate cause to fight for, the end of occupation, the end of oppression etc. Those fighting against them are fighting a lost cause, the cause of imposing their rule on those who do not wish to be ruled by others.
I repeat the Jewish community globally have suffered repeated injustices throughout history, the solution to their problem never lay in shipping them to Palestine, the solution lay in their full citizenship and recognition as a legitimate minority in the countries in which they suffered such injustices. Thus the Jewish population of Europe should have received full reparations and compensation in Europe after World War 2, with a full restoration of citizenship and checks and balances to prevent any further outrages against them. The state of Israel is a monument to European Racism!
Unlike the Irish, Italians, Greeks and many other groups who fled oppression in the old world who were majorities in every country they fled from, the Jews were a tiny minority in every country where they fled from. Because of Jewish history, it's necessary for the Jews to also have a country where they're a majority, and to protect world Jewry against a repeat of the pograms, etc., that led up to the "Final Solution".
Yet, the Palestinians also need their very own independent, sovereign nation-state where THEY'RE a majority for similar reasons; to protect against a repeat of historical oppression and exploitation and persecution.
The only way we're gonna stop this is to pay attention to local and state level elections and elect better pols. From there we can defeat the pols in Washington and get the real change we need.
"By the way. Rachael Corrie was a terrorist sympathizer and wrote about watching weapons being smuggled in through a tunnel. She was brave, but a terrorist. No loss."
This is the most deplorable statement I've ever seen on CD, and it makes me sad, very sad. Somehow some of the words from a song by Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods came to me after I read that:
Just remember:
Someone is on your side.
Someone else is not.
While we're seeing our side-
Maybe we forgot:
They are not alone.
No one is alone.
It's a mournful song that tackles the nuances of growing up and seeing the world, no longer in black and white, but in shades of gray.
I found that fairly horrifying as well. "No loss"... huh. Apparently nowadays the fair penalty for *sympathy* with the wrong side in a conflict is death without trial. And presumably the penalty for actually being among the enemy is far worse.
People are so easily blinded to the messy facts of a situation when the black & white abstract version is so appealing (and so broadly abused for propaganda purposes).
It's been a while, time for a reality check:

Good one, favorited. The monkeys need to ditch their religious delusions fast.
Let's not insult monkeys. At least they are complex intelligent creatures as opposed to their homo sapien cousins.
As the lead attorney hired to represent the 'monkeys', I hereby place the 'humans' on notice to cease and desist from making tall claims simply based on a biological descent from our client species. By making these repeated claims, they somehow imply that they share the same level of intelligence and responsibility of the other animals in nature. This is highly objectionable. I especially object to this particular video which seeks to imply that somehow the humans are as intelligent as the monkeys by repeatedly juxtaposing the pictures and using the word 'monkeys'. As a rule, our clients do not believe in patenting and copyrighting - because it is generally understood to be the most idiotic and outrageous thing - to claim something as your own, when it is little more than an improvement over something that existed before. But this is taking things too far, and our clients' reputation is at stake. Just as you guys do not allow someone to use fake currency and forged passports or even counterfeit products, our clients think it is time to stop using any claims - implied or otherwise - of human descent from the monkeys. Having branched off long ago, there is no basis to claim any level of intelligence simply based on a distant ancestry.

Clap, clap, clap, I having been engaging in the Citgo buycott now for years now. Serena you have been there, how did Chavez organize people to vote for their own interests and do you think any of his methods would work in the fat pig U.S.?
What are the rest of the leaders in Latin America saying? I'd like to see the look on the faces of the zionist trolls on this forum. I've seen some of those same trolls give hate talk against Chavez on this forum. Viva Chavez !
Sorry, this piece had me until she compared voting for Obama to being like Rachel Corrie. How in the world do you even begin to talk about such a comparison.
And, Obama is not the second coming, by the way.

Super Powers Scramble To Play Catch-Up With Hamas’ Superior Rocket Technology
(AV) In a top secret meeting this week, the best and brightest of the world’s nuclear armed nations sought to uncover the secrets of the rockets that have been launched from Gaza into the Israeli desert nearby the tiny prison enclave.
A nuclear weapons scientist from Lawrence-Livermore said “We’ve got to completely re-think our approach to weapons systems. All this time, we’ve been focused on killing people as a means of keeping our government in power. Hamas has shown that they can increase their popular support by provoking a completely disproportionate response from Israel while killing hardly anyone!”
An Israeli scientist from the Dimona nuclear facility wondered out loud how much longer citizens might support their government. “An Israeli citizen is more at risk of being hit by an asteroid than one of those rockets, but , for the time being, they are happy to oblige Hamas’ need for an attack if a few of the rockets put a hole in a roof every once in a while.”
While experts agreed that the latest war in Israel/Palestine has met the immediate political needs of both the Labor Party in Israel and Hamas in Gaza, they point out that international opinion has shifted away from support for Israel due to the hundreds of dead and thousands of wounded Palestinians.
From his ranch in Crawford Texas, President Bush reiterated his support for killing Palestinians, saying “We will never negotiate with terrorists. Peace talks can only begin when Hamas renounces use of non-lethal weapons.”
A spokesperson for President-elect Barack Obama, when asked to comment, said “There’s only one president at a time.”
