Sarah Palin Blamed by The US Secret Service Over Death Threats Against Barack Obama
Sarah Palin's attacks on Barack Obama's patriotism provoked a spike in death threats against the future president, Secret Service agents revealed during the final weeks of the campaign.
The Republican vice presidential candidate attracted criticism for accusing Mr Obama of "palling around with terrorists", citing his association with the sixties radical William Ayers.
Palin's tone may have unintentionally encouraged white supremacists. (Photo: Reuters) The attacks provoked a near lynch mob atmosphere at her rallies, with supporters yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" until the McCain campaign ordered her to tone down the rhetoric.
But it has now emerged that her demagogic tone may have unintentionally encouraged white supremacists to go even further.
The Secret Service warned the Obama family in mid October that they had seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the Democratic candidate, coinciding with Mrs Palin's attacks.
Michelle Obama, the future First Lady, was so upset that she turned to her friend and campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett and said: "Why would they try to make people hate us?"
The revelations, contained in a Newsweek history of the campaign, are likely to further damage Mrs Palin's credentials as a future presidential candidate. She is already a frontrunner, with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, to take on Mr Obama in four years time.
Details of the spike in threats to Mr Obama come as a report last week by security and intelligence analysts Stratfor, warned that he is a high risk target for racist gunmen. It concluded: "Two plots to assassinate Obama were broken up during the campaign season, and several more remain under investigation. We would expect federal authorities to uncover many more plots to attack the president that have been hatched by white supremacist ideologues."
Irate John McCain aides, who blame Mrs Palin for losing the election, claim Mrs Palin took it upon herself to question Mr Obama's patriotism, before the line of attack had been cleared by Mr McCain.
That claim is part of a campaign of targeted leaks designed to torpedo her ambitions, with claims that she did not know that Africawas a continent rather than a country.
The advisers have branded her a "diva" and a "whack job" and claimed that she did not know which other countries are in the North American Free Trade Area, (Canada and Mexico). They say she spent more than $150,000 on designer clothes, including $40,000 on her husband Todd and that she refused to prepare for the disastrous series of interviews with CBS's Katie Couric.
In a bid to salvage her reputation Mrs Palin came out firing in an interview with CNN, dismissing the anonymous leakers in unpresidential language as "jerks" who had taken "questions or comments I made in debate prep out of context."
She said: "I consider it cowardly. It's not true. That's cruel, it's mean-spirited, it's immature, it's unprofessional and those guys are jerks if they came away taking things out of context and then tried to spread something on national news that's not fair and not right."
She was not asked about her incendiary rhetoric against Mr Obama. But she did deny the spending spree claims, saying the clothes in question had been returned to the Republican National Committee. "Those are the RNC's clothes, they're not my clothes. I asked for anything more than maybe a diet Dr Pepper once in a while. These are false allegations."
Speaking as she returned to her native Alaska, Mrs Palin claimed to be baffled by what she claims was sexism on the national stage. "Here in Alaska that double standard isn't applied because these guys know that Alaskan women are pretty tough, on a par with the men in terms of being outdoors, working hard," she said.
"They're commercial fishermen, they're pilots, they're working up on the North slopein the oil fields. You see equality in Alaska. I think that was a bit of as surprise on the national level."

Show AllWhether in photos and films doctored by the pros to look both appealing and intelligent, Mrs. Palin revealed herself as a shallow thinker who has spent most of her life making knee-jerk decisions based entirely on self-interest.
Put such a person in the hands of consultants and image-mongers who themselves have little if any conscience and her own gullibility and world view from the shallow end of the pool only gets magnified.
He late-campaign remarks whining about criticism of her campaign criticisms of Obama revealed just how much Sarah Palin is a small-town rural personality. Nothing wrong with small-town and rural personalities so long as within that environment upbringing necessary skills like critical thinking and an ability to see both sides of an issue are taught or acquired.
... so long as within that rural environment (one in which I also dwell) a dominant us/them either/or attitude is not the overriding norm.
Mrs. Palin seems to be in oblivious denial of the consequences of her own actions. She is too interested in self-promotion to worry about ethics.
George W. Bush in a dress.
Or Dickless Cheney.
That's funny. She's also not as smart as Cheney.
Who is more the "Evil Mastermind" type than an accidental idiot on the National stage, doing whatever the Rovians told her to.

ARTHUR: Excellent analysis (of Palin).
What do mean, "unintentionally encouraged"?

I thought the whole "kill him" charge-concerning something shouted by a rally bystander against Obama had already been proven false by the Secret Service. Why is is being repeated here?
Really? I've never heard that, and I've been such a news junkie lately I'm not sure how I could have missed it. We all heard it, after all...
Sorry to rain on your parade, but I am the TRUTH teller:

Secret Service says "Kill him" allegation unfounded
By Andrew M. Seder aseder@timesleader.com
Staff Writer
SCRANTON – The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton said allegations that someone yelled “kill him” when presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s name was mentioned during Tuesday’s Sarah Palin rally are unfounded.
The Scranton Times-Tribune first reported the alleged incident on its Web site Tuesday and then again in its print edition Wednesday. The first story, written by reporter David Singleton, appeared with allegations that while congressional candidate Chris Hackett was addressing the crowd and mentioned Obama’s name a man in the audience shouted “kill him."
News organizations including ABC, The Associated Press, The Washington Monthly and MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann reported the claim, with most attributing the allegations to the Times-Tribune story.
Agent Bill Slavoski said he was in the audience, along with an undisclosed number of additional secret service agents and other law enforcement officers and not one heard the comment.
“I was baffled,” he said after reading the report in Wednesday’s Times-Tribune.
He said the agency conducted an investigation Wednesday, after seeing the story, and could not find one person to corroborate the allegation other than Singleton.
Slavoski said more than 20 non-security agents were interviewed Wednesday, from news media to ordinary citizens in attendance at the rally for the Republican vice presidential candidate held at the Riverfront Sports Complex. He said Singleton was the only one to say he heard someone yell “kill him.”
“We have yet to find someone to back up the story,” Slavoski said. “We had people all over and we have yet to find anyone who said they heard it.”
Hackett said he did not hear the remark.

I heard it. It was a televised speech. I couldn't have been the only one.
Right, stupid me. Of course, the Secret Service is LYING. Duh...
Missing the point and ignoring the fact that the Secret Service broke up actual plots by racists to attempt assassination, AND at least some of them blame Palin's rhetoric for the increase in threats and plots. Who cares if "kill him" was heard over the airwaves!
If it was said it's important that as many people as possible know about it, and it was said.
No, I think your Times Leader newspaper, bought out by a bunch of Texan business investors, a paper with a history of union busting is probably the liar.

I heard it. Here's a clip with someone yelling "Kill him".

Thanks for the link. Not only can we hear it but the look on John McCain's face shows that HE heard it too, and had the grace to look momentarily disgusted.
Yoe weren't I heard it too.

I just don't get it, but a recent poll shows that 64% of Republicans favor Sarah Palin as their top pick for the 2012 presidential ticket. Now that's scary!
The choice of Palin was a cynical gamble by Republicans, a tactic they mistook for a strategy. In the savage world of American presidential politics, "losers" are shot and buried in a shallow grave. Anyway, the Republicans are misogynists and don't really want to see a woman become president. She's stupid enough to pass muster to be the Republican candidate (an absolute "must" for them) but what they will really be looking for in the next two years is a multimillionaire cross between Dracula and Elmer Gantry. Willard Romney and Jeb Bush are already posing in the front of the mirror, practicing their boilerplate speeches but the name of the next candidate may be, as of now, totally unrecognizable to us.
You just know someone will take a pot shot at Obama.
he didnt defeat racism-Bush was just so bad he had an opportunity to get in there. But I am sure all the militia nuts will come out of cold storage after tolerating Bush.
She has no chance of being nominated.
The article says she is a native of Alaska. I thought she wasnt really a native Alaskan.
More like a half baked Alaskan.
Sarah Palin is not a native Alaskan. Only the indigeneous Indians and Eskimos are really native Alaskans.
You're wrong, Revere. A native is someone who was born in the country. From natus=(Latin) to be born.
The Indians and Eskimos are properly called aborigines or indigenes.
But you're right for another reason: Palin was born in (I think) Idaho.
She was born in Idaho.
sarah/todd palin were part and parcel of an alaskan "WHITE SEPARTIST" group. They and the alaska independence party (AIP) campaigned/solicited the GOP for the inclusion of sarah palin to be added to the mccain ticket as VP. The contention and infighting that developed between the two camps was because the AIP had a completely different agenda from that of the mccain group. From the stand point of the AIP this was "low hanging fruit" and an opportunity that put their plans of an "ALL WHITE" nation within the bounds of possibility!
WOW! Sarah told the truth for once! It is her people in the GOP party that Sarah called " cowards and jerks".
She is a narrow-minded fundamentalist self-serving hate-monger. Moderate Repugs who blame her for alienating many and hurting McCain are doing what they can to drive a stake through the heart of her political career by spreading stories about her. Some I'm sure are accurate, others probably exaggerations. The important thing is that her chances of being chosen to run for a national office by the GOP are nil. She may still run as an uncivil Libertarian.
The Jaded Prole
Palin was McCain's desperate attempt to rally the religious right, those backward "low information voters". So she also stirred up the worst of the worst, the extremely racist- Kill MLK/JFK gun nuts? This was all good with McCain, but his desperate ploy failed as she was exposed as a very ignorant redneck type who no one would want in charge of Anything. The ultimate shame is all on McCain, who's credibility is trashed for all time. He bet on Karl Rove, and finally the mood of the Country had become sick of the politics of Hate, Cronyism and Fear.
His partner in crime, Joe Lieberman, has also become toxic waste in Washington. They only question now is what to do with this garbage? The rubber stamp republicans are all severely damaged. It's about time.
It's the Economy Stupid. And McCain had no answers for the worried, NONE!
The environmentalists can rejoice now, knowing that mountain top removal mining, the crown jewel of the GWB administration, is finally going to end, hopefully Forever. It will take centuries to recover from the disease that is GWB.
So ironically Palin turned out to be more a terrorist than Obama will ever be. I hope all the plots she encouraged get foiled.
Can't we just let this creepy hateful religo-bimbo slide back into the racist slimepit she oozed out of? I am SO sick of this nasty little tart. Any more press on her is a waste of ink.
Let her and her retard family go back to skinning moose and inbreeding in the snow.
"The only means of strengthening one's intellect is to make up one's mind about nothing, to let the mind be a thoroughfare for all thoughts." - John Keats
"Unintentional" in this instance might be a synonym for "unkind" or "who cares what consequences follow."
Either way, Ms. Palin and, invariably, Mr. McCain share the prize for "Most Depressing Example of Mindless Klieg Light Psychosis."
"UN-intentionally" encouraged hate groups?
I- also- highly doubt that.
I hope that someone will look into not only "torpedo-ing" Palin's future plans, but that they will seek to charge her with inciting to murder.
Unless, I'm way off, there have been White Suprememcists who've been successfully prosecuted in similar cases.
It's time we stopped protecting them as "free speech" proponents.
Palin & her husband and their ilk are very dangerous people.
Maybe this is the year our nation begins to REALLY address racism?
I totally agree with how very dangerous they are. IMHO, Palin is Hitler in a skirt, a dangerous demagogue who knowingly incited the unhinged, racists and hate-filled fundamentalist Christians and never blinked an eye (but instead only winked) when her adoring crowds shouted death threats against Obama.
Now that she's lost her chance to run the country, at least for now, she's trying to back down from her dangerous rhetoric, proclaiming "God bless Obama." Well, it doesn't work that way, Governor Palin. You've stirred up the hatred against him and your knuckle dragging followers aren't so willing to turn the page. If, God forbid, anything happens to President-Elect Obama, blood will be on your hands.
Too bad we don't have European style "hate speech" laws. Then we could stick her in Guantanamo or somewhere and re-educate her with Prozac to think only good thoughts about our leader.
Can we throw Limbaugh and Hannity in there as well? :)
No, but if you move to Venezuela, your big brother, er leader, can simply censor opposing viewpoints off the airwaves, which is almost as good.
Glad to see that you haven't actually looked into the incident you are referring to. If the same thing happened in the US and a network was helping to fuel a coup that was engineered by an outside power... well I am guessing we'd do a bit more than just revoke their broadcast license.
Airwaves belong to the people. It's the same thing here. When a private company abuses the airwaves and spouts lies to the people that encourage violence then, they violate the license. I mean, hell, Chavez didn't even revoke the network's license right away.. he allowed it to expire as planned and just refused to renew it. It is an absolute myth that there are no dissenting viewpoints in Venezuela in regard to Chavez. Get your facts straight "truth-teller".
I am with you on free speech issues... but this goes back to yelling fire in a crowded theater. You can't say things that endanger other people's personal safety. Palin could have gone after Obama on the issues. She chose the low road and has only herself to blame.
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?" -Epicurus
TruthTeller is a typical troll, with the standard neonazi pretense that HE and his pals are the ones under threat of persecution.
If the owners of RCTV committed treason, WHY hasn't Chavez threatened to jail them. He threatens to jail State Governors every week (Sucre's is this weeks victim), but has never threatened the owners of RCTV.
WHY????Perhaps because it did not happen?
Why do @ssholes like you always try to give yourselves names like "TruthTeller"?
STFU fascist troll
Your comment proves you are a blithering idiot who has not an inkling of understanding of the 1st Amendment.
Hate speech, or speech inciting listeners to violence against others, is NOT protected by the 1st Amendment. So take your stupid right-wing troll quip about Venezuela and stick it where the sun doesn't shine, "my friend".
This woman is dangerous. The day I saw the middle aged white man going into one of her rallys carrying a stuffed monkey with an Obama bumper sticker on its forehead, I knew she was bad news. This was one of the biggest political blunders McCain could have done, although I am so glad he did, the thought of this woman being behind the desk in the Oval Office should something happen to McCain, would have been a grave injustice to all citizens of this country. This was one of the sleaziest campaigns I have every witnessed. She incited so much hate for Obama, as did McCain, if something happens to him, they should both be held accountable. If she rears her ugly head again in 2012, God help us all.
If she rears her ugly head again in 2012, God isn't going to help us. We need to make darned sure she doesn't get elected. Of course if she ends up getting old fossil felonss Senate seat, she might end up with some of the sharp edges knocked off.
Oh yeah, that's right, Alaska just elected a convicted felon. [Church Lady Mode On] Well isn't that special! [ Church Lady Mode off]

George should have shown us that nobody is too stupid to be used by the ruling class.
Let's not underestimate this bimbette.
Public legitimization of hate grants permission to others to hate. We see it when anti-gay sentiments are legitimized...hate crimes against LGBT folks increases; hate against people of color or women or any oppressed group results in more hate. Hate begets hate.
When someone on the national stage, like Sarah Palin, spews forth their ugliness, it resonates with some others who then feel affirmed in their ugliness. It's a sad aspect of humanity.
Sad yes, but part of the human condition--against which no exercise of free will can have an effect.
I guess Palin's minions are clinging to their religion and guns.
Here's the clip for the repugnant deniers. I heard it.
"Kill Him"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVFWahLTdUo&feature=related
Palin is a troll with a spotlight, very dangerous. Who's the jerk now?
Why is it that Obama supporters call McCain "grandpa" but McCain supporters shout "Kill Him"?
Those are not opposite and equal negatives.
Do we really want those kind of people (religious, gun-toting racists?) to run our country now, in 2012 or ever?
I consider myself a "follower of the teachings of Jesus" but with that kind of hate calling itself Christianity in the US, I won't identify with anyone!
They are giving Jesus a bad name!
"Alaskan women are pretty tough, on a par with the men... You see equality in Alaska. I think that was a bit of as surprise on the national level."
After the investigation found she had abused her power as governor she said she was glad she was completely exonerated. D-OH!
Yes, Sarah, if there is equality in Alaska, that must mean the men are as hard-headed and willfully ignorant as you.
