UltraViolet on News Cecile Richards Will Step Down as President of Planned Parenthood
WASHINGTON - Statement from Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy organization:
“There are not enough words to express our appreciation and admiration for Cecile Richards and her lifelong commitment to fighting for women and their right to reproductive health care access.
“Richards is an inspiration, a tireless advocate, and incredibly effective leader. Despite Planned Parenthood being under near-constant attack, under her leadership the organization has garnered overwhelming support from the public and expanded its base while providing care to 1 in 5 women every year.
“Richards' leadership at Planned Parenthood has increased access to quality, affordable health care for countless women by ensuring they are empowered to control their own private health care decisions.
"Calling Cecile Richards a leader alone simply does not do her justice. She is a champion and mentor for women everywhere.”

Independent journalism has become the last firewall against government and corporate lies. Yet, with frightening regularity, independent media sources are losing funding, closing down or being blacked out by Google and Facebook. Never before has independent media been more endangered. If you believe in Common Dreams, if you believe in people-powered independent media, please support us now and help us fight—with truths—against the lies that would smother our democracy. Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing. Thank you. -- Craig Brown, Co-founder
