It Was the Banks
Bruce Bartlett says it was a failure to focus. Paul Krugman says it was a failure of nerve. Nancy Pelosi says it was the economy's failure. Barack Obama says it was his own failure - to explain that he was, in fact, focused on the economy.
As Krugman rightly stipulates, Monday-morning quarterbacks should say exactly what different play they would have called. Paul's answer is that the stimulus package should have been bigger. No disagreement: I was one voice calling for a much larger program back when. Yet this answer is not sufficient.
The original sin of Obama's presidency was to assign economic policy to a closed circle of bank-friendly economists and Bush carryovers. Larry Summers. Timothy Geithner. Ben Bernanke. These men had no personal commitment to the goal of an early recovery, no stake in the Democratic Party, no interest in the larger success of Barack Obama. Their primary goal, instead, was and remains to protect their own past decisions and their own professional futures.
Up to a point, one can defend the decisions taken in September-October 2008 under the stress of a rapidly collapsing financial system. The Bush administration was, by that time, nearly defunct. Panic was in the air, as was political blackmail - with the threat that the October through January months might be irreparably brutal. Stopgaps were needed, they were concocted, and they held the line.
But one cannot defend the actions of Team Obama on taking office. Law, policy and politics all pointed in one direction: turn the systemically dangerous banks over to Sheila Bair and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Insure the depositors, replace the management, fire the lobbyists, audit the books, prosecute the frauds, and restructure and downsize the institutions. The financial system would have been cleaned up. And the big bankers would have been beaten as a political force.
Team Obama did none of these things. Instead they announced "stress tests," plainly designed so as to obscure the banks' true condition. They pressured the Federal Accounting Standards Board to permit the banks to ignore the market value of their toxic assets. Management stayed in place. They prosecuted no one. The Fed cut the cost of funds to zero. The President justified all this by repeating, many times, that the goal of policy was "to get credit flowing again."
The banks threw a party. Reported profits soared, as did bonuses. With free funds, the banks could make money with no risk, by lending back to the Treasury. They could boom the stock market. They could make a mint on proprietary trading. Their losses on mortgages were concealed - until the fact came out that they'd so neglected basic mortgage paperwork, as to be unable to foreclose in many cases, without the help of forged documents and perjured affidavits.
But new loans? The big banks had given up on that. They no longer did real underwriting. And anyway, who could qualify? Businesses mostly had no investment plans. And homeowners were, to an increasing degree, upside- down on their mortgages and therefore unqualified to refinance.
These facts were obvious to everybody, fueling rage at "bailouts." They also underlie the economy's failure to create jobs. What usually happens (and did, for example, in 1994 - 2000) is that credit growth takes over from Keynesian fiscal expansion. Armed with credit, businesses expand, and with higher incomes, public deficits decline. This cannot happen if the financial sector isn't working.
Geithner, Summers and Bernanke should have known this. One can be fairly sure that they did know it. But Geithner and Bernanke had cast their lots, with continuity and coverup. And Summers, with his own record of deregulation, could hardly complain.
To counter calls for more action, Team Obama produced sunny forecasts. Their program was right-sized, because anyway unemployment would peak at 8 percent in 2009. So Larry Summers said. In making that forecast, the Obama White House took responsibility for the entire excess of joblessness above eight percent. They made it impossible to blame the ongoing disaster on George W. Bush. If this wasn't rank incompetence, it was sabotage.
This is why, in a crisis, you need new people. You must be able to attack past administrations, and override old decisions, without directly crossing those who made them.
President Obama didn't see this. Or perhaps, he didn't want to see it. His presidential campaign was, after all, from the beginning financed from Wall Street. He chose his team, knowing exactly who they were. And this tells us what we need to know about who he really is.

Show AllObama: joined Bush to bail the banks that they may continue their depredations upon the rest of us; expanded Afghanistan--immolating American thugs and Afghan patriots to be re-elected and show himself all manned-up for the Repubs; continues Iraq; continues Gitmo; fails to prosecute the war criminals of the previous administration, making his own even more complicit in their crimes; dithers about foreclosures; expands Bagram, where Afghans and others may be tortured to death by the CIA without any oversight; expands drone attacks whereby American “heroes” annihilate the wedding parties of innocent ("terrorist") Afghans by flipping a switch at Nelson AFB; makes sure meaningful health care reform will NOT occur; bails the companies who then coolly outsource more jobs; takes direction from BP; and makes certain real banking reform will not get Citibank’s panties in a twist. In short, Obama joins the powerful in making sure this crisis reduces plain American to the peonage the powerful want. No more unions, no more living wages--just the workers in their place, happy to be wage slaves.
If you voted for Obama, you really weren't listening. He is and always has been a right-wing tool.
Dubya and most Republicans are in-your-face neocons.
Obama is a passive-aggressive neocon.
Take your pick.
I printed the article, high lighting key phrases, and added a note:
"Unlike my energetic work for Obama two years ago, this is why I didn't work for Democrats this election."
This is not the first time I'd sent Common Dreams articles to the White House. If more of us explained ourselves, decision-makers might read the polls with more understanding -- it's not apathetic idiots who are too lazy to vote mid-term, but people who see too many bad decisions or (I am beginning to fear) downright corruption.
Supposedly, Obama is given certain letters to read every night. Probably just the tear-jerkers. But maybe some actual reason will pierce the "smartest people in the room" veil that surrounds him.
MsSardines:
He doesn't care. All they care about it keeping themselves and the financial House of Cards they've built, afloat.
Well, it's worth a try. Maybe it's beginning to occur to him that some of his advisors are not so brilliant after all.
Maybe also send a copy to Larry "the genius" Summers back at Harvard & Rahm "tough guy" Emmanuel in Chicago. Seems like some of the rats have jumped ship.
I'll agree with your analysis that Obama is and always was a right-wing tool, but if you think that should have been apparent from listening to his campaign speeches alone, you're the one who wasn't listening.
On the campaign, Obama said the first thing he would do in a foreclosure crisis was issue a moratorium on foreclosures. He said he would ban offshore-drilling because it doesn't make sense and is not the right thing to do. He said he would push for more progressive immigration laws and lessen the focus on the War on Drugs.
He said he would close Guantanamo, open Cuba's borders, filibuster against immunity for the Telcos, keep lobbyists out of his administration and out of healthcare debates. He said he would look into the possibility that the previous administration's behaviour was criminal.
All of these statements are documented and still exist on the internet, some in video form.
I'm ashamed that I was fooled by him, but I moved to Canada five years ago anyway during Bush's second term (not a coincidence) and I only have so many hours per day to devote to learning about the intricacies of America's endless downward trajectory. Still, I did follow the campaign and Obama was saying all the right things on nearly every issue. I disagreed that there was any reason to be in Afghanistan, but at least he was calling for a withdrawal from Iraq. None of the other "serious" presidential contenders were.
Congratulations for you if you knew that Obama was a right-wing tool back then, but you definitely didn't determine it from listening to the content of his speeches; you must've learned it by other means.
One good thing has come of Obama: It is now impossible for any true progressive to fool themselves that the Democratic party stands for anything good. Probably a lot of other people came to this conclusion when Clinton was president, but many people (including me) were too young to notice something like that at the time.
My 2012 absentee ballot will be going for the best third-party candidate who runs.
Thank you vorpalmusic for the best "reader's comment" I've seen on CD
in a long damn time.
I wish I could have had the foresight to see thru the smoke and mirrors
that began with Obama's fire and brimstone speech at the 2004 Democrat
National Convention and degenerated into more of the same political bull
schitt we've come to expect from both parties.
Like Keith Olbermann (bless him) said years ago, "There's no difference
in the two political parties, it's just one party, The Money Party, and
its symbol is a vulture."
And like Molly Ivins (rest her soul) said about Texas politicians,
"We have the best that money can buy," and by extension all that reside
within the DC Beltway.
Dr. Galbraith -
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HONESTY.
My young grandchildren lost their family home last year; their father built the subdivision. Food pantry recipients are way, way up. Residents of Atlanta-metro counties are suffering massive economic pain. Projecting the scenario to national level, why are we allowing this country to be torn to shreds at the hands of our own leadership?? Can no one say, "The Federal Reserve prints money out of thin air to enslave governments and all human beings"??
So sad that redress is only for the banking perpetrators.
We talk and talk and keep on talking, let see almost three years now? Yes, I feel your pain. We lost everything too and the end is not in sight yet. The Question now, what are we going to do about this? The midterm election is over and as expected, nothing going to happen. The Banks will continue to foreclosures and will pay billions bonuses. I keep on asking how come Obama let the crooks walked free and who is this Eric Holder, not a single crook behind bars?
The question again: What can your son, you, the million Americans and I do now?
PS: My Senator, Boxer retains her Senate seat. In her victory speech, she said something like “...I am here from day one to help you......” Oh, it only makes me sick inside.
Put aside help coming from Washington.
Read your constitution. It does give you the right to sovereignty where you live. Look at your community and decide what you would like to change. The only way to do this is by vote of the majority. You will meet your neighbors and build community.
The system of representative democracy has produced candidates all of the rich plutocracy. The people will have to take our democracy back by establishing direct democracy in our town or city. Petitions, warrant articles for vote, informational public meetings, and public voting on positive laws they have written to protect their health and safety. We have the right. Can you find in the people who had a tea party sign on their lawn points of agreement in how you both would like your town to be different and are you willing to work with them to get it done? We passed a law that said corporations are not people. Hundreds of towns have done so. Can you?
It is positive, non-violent, community building and oh so slow.
And the alternatives are?
Arlo says:
"You know, if one person, just one person does it they may think he's really sick and they won't take him. And if two people, two people do it, in harmony, they may think they're both (Gay) and they won't take either of them. And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking in
singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. They may think it's an organization. And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day,I said fifty people a day walking in singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. And friends they may thinks it's a movement."
Sorry, on offence intended.

You are 100% right that the need is for real democracy.
But it does not have to start at the local level. It is equally feasible nationally or regionally and so can start anywhere. With modern IT, everywhere is now the same place. The problem is, to put it bluntly, hardly any American actually favors democracy; we prefer to tolerate the inadequate outdated corrupt cumbersome mess we inherited, as that does not require us to think or otherwise expend any energy in action.
Instead of recognizing that the system needs change, we blame the people for all kinds of imagined faults and failures. If it's not the fault of the citizens, then it's that of the politicians or the bankers or the lobbyists or the commies or the fascists, just about anyone except ourselves.
We, of course, are smart and well informed; it's all those others who are ignorant, unwashed, and congenitally stupid, too dumb to operate a democracy and too irresponsible to be entrusted with real political authority.
And Americans re-elected Senators who voted to reconfirm Helicopter Ben Bernanke earlier this year.
"Can no one say, "The Federal Reserve prints money out of thin air to enslave governments and all human beings"??"
purrsun,
It it being said in many places. The problem is the majority doesn't understand how the Federal Reserve operates or that it is privately-owned. The Feds are in fact meeting this weekend in Jekyll Island to celebrate almost 100 yrs. of fiscal domination over America. You can read about it at:
http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/the-federal-reserve-is-holding-a-conference-on-jekyll-island-to-celebrate-100-years-of-dominating-america-a-return-to-jekyll-island-the-origins-history-and-future-of-the-federal-reserve. They will either be disgussing their demise or ours!
"This is why, in a crisis, you need new people."
Yup, we are in a crisis. We need new people. Obama and democratic hacks who have been there sucking the public tit need not apply.
NEW people get it?
Actually, I see it more like they're ticks, becoming bloated from gorging themselves on living blood until the host becomes weakened, diseased and then dies but not until before they jump off to find a new host.....to continue the cycles.
IMO until the role of currency creator is taken from the banks and their debt-based model, and returned to the people to be spent into existence.......articles like this are nothing more than mental masturbation.
Clean it up all you want...but if private bankers still control currency creation and treat currency as a commodity rather than simply a medium for exchanging goods and services, things will never truly improve.
It is absolutely astonishing...in a day and age where every man and his dog seems to blame immigrants and welfare recipients for the ills of our countries........that we have a drug war that is essentially welfare for gangs and police...........The US has a healthcare model that is welfare for insurance companies.............Phoney wars (the premise is phony but the bombs and death are all too real) are welfare for the M.I.C..............and modern currency creation is welfare for bankers/wallstreeters.
I spose, in retrospect, welfare recipients really are the reason we're all in such tough shape.
Yes it was. (not yes we can)! As far as Keith Olberman is concerned....

There will be no new people until we force the current ones to at least agree to take money out of politics.
Let it be about ideas and solutions, not about the obscene sums of money stolen from us.
I am not sure whether this movement can be started on the local level.
So true, but hardly any pundit brings this up. It should be repeated over and over by opinionators, even if it becomes boring. Sometimes the truth is boring.
Obama knew exactly what he was doing. Summer , Geitner , Bernecke and the last goes on and on were put in place to do a massive CYA operation for the Bnaks, Wall st. AIG all of it. They did what they were hired to do and Geitner and Bernecke are still at it. Obama is nothing more then a shoe shine BOY for the banks and the Brokerage firms etc.
"Obama is nothing more then a shoe shine BOY for the banks and the Brokerage firms etc."
I was thinking last night - perhaps a butler, or a puppet, or a full-fledged co-conspirator?
Does anyone seriously think that Bernanke's "trash the dollar" plan will work?
I do. We'll start selling stuff cheap on the international market, and our transformation to a Third World country will be complete.
Did Bernanke mention that this means we Americans also come cheap? I see flocks of Chinese and Europeans coming to America to gawk at the locals and throw us coins for acting silly. Hey, its a job, and they promised us a job...
No. There are already deals being made between the BRIC countries and their allies to form a parallel monetary and currency exchange system to facilitate international trade absent the dollar which I term Dollar Containment. The four most recent essays and interviews here explain why and how, http://michael-hudson.com/
It appears that the greed of the Money Power will be the stroke that fells the US Empire.
"President Obama didn't see this...perhaps, he didn't want to "
Actually, I think he didn't see it. He wanted to appear 'fiscally responsible' in his decisions and so, like Clinton, he hired experts from inside the system. It sounded reasonable enough, at the time, for a reasonable man. But as we all see now, he needed to hire some serious firebrands on the left to school WallStreet (like FDR did), and now it appears too late.
Watching Obama eat Humble Pie last Wednesday was disheartening. He so wants to be the man in the middle, peacefully shepharding his flock. He didn't ask to inherit a flock that is rapidly dividing itself into wolves and sheep. In times like these, the sheep either gang up on the wolves or get eaten, one by one, and Obama's still trying to find some common ground.
One can often make peace with greedy b**tards. But, when the economy tanks, and the democracy is for sale, it gets a lot harder. Obama has inherited a situation in which he either leads the pummeling of the b**tards, or gets run over by his own flock, whats left of them.
Those who voted for Obomber did so to provide leadership in a very difficult time for the country--not to be a nice guy loved by all. He failed on both fronts.
0bama's "humble pie" stunt is 100 per cent theatrics that delivered the message loud and clear to the forces of evil that their license to steal (and murder) will have no expiration date.
Nancy Pelosi pulled the same stunt four years ago when her first words as house speaker were "impeachment is off the table".
"0bama's "humble pie" stunt is 100 per cent theatrics that delivered the message loud and clear to the forces of evil that their license to steal (and murder) will have no expiration date."
Quite frankly I thought it was about as lousy acting as when the Boy Idiot proclaimed Iraq had WMDs. The keyword from Katie & Brian on Obamas speech? "Introspection".
God, how do these people sleep at night?
Thanks Dr. Galbraith,
Your more famous father was always proud of you for good reason.

"President Obama didn't see this. Or perhaps, he didn't want to see it."
Surely you jest. Do we take this man for a complete idiot? He saw and he approved. That was his job and he did it. His reward is a place in history and a comfortable life. His risk is that of potential assassination. His cost is of his soul. Our cost is intractably difficult to calculate, mounting mass deaths and misery.
This brief article by a renowned economist goes far to explain the disaster that was the mid-term election. People felt betrayed (whether through close study or merely by instinct) by Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress, and they were right.
The pity is that they turned way from the Dems to an equally pernicious party because there appeared to be no alternative, except the Tea Party, which may have started as small intensely angry groups but which has been taken over by big secret funders.
As a result there will be no relief from the foreclosure disaster, no real gains in employment at least through 2012 and contraction of local government services and education. Any "deficit reduction" will come on the backs of the people and the wars will go on and the bankers will continue to get rich.
Obama's first reaction to this major defeat was/is one of conciliation and bipartisanship and this article outlines the economic history of why.
Many of us saw this coming...

BRILLIANT!
I'm assuming all this talk of auditing and regulating only applies to fully private banks. Democrats fought and opposed regulation of Fannie Mae and Fannie Mac even though their lending practices and buying of their own crappy securitized subcrap mortgages played a huge role in the mortgage crisis. Democrats defended the corruption and cheating and stealing by government corporation executives. Replacing big private corporations with big public corporations won't fix anything. Both of them played a role in where we are today. We need some new answers.
bogi666:
Good post-You may want to read this article which totally substantiates what you are saying here in regard to "DIRTY money laundering", from HUD-Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac and on to the Hedge Funds.....I also have references in above post if you are of interest..
"The Myth of the Rule of Law" by Catherine Austin Fitts is A true story about how deep the Reagan-Clinton-Bush-and on to the present day Presidencys have been involved in washing Dirty Drug Money through HUD, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and how American communities have been destroyed throughout the years-This is one good read if you want to understand how our society has been systematically targeted for poverty and loss of ownership by the reptillian money masters...
This story also illustrates and identifys how this Government's HUD developement game has morphed into the Prison Privatization and developement game...
Most people know how FDR's financial safegards were dismantled, but this womam validates the rotten scams that our Government has perpetrated aginst lower middle class Americans throughout the years as the Laws went out the door and how it has effected us all..

Thanks bogi666,
An Amazing article bout Drug money from a whistle blower and the involvement of the military who ran the programs with HUD, Treasury and others.
This was written about the same time the day before 9/11 that the Sec of Defense announced the Pentagon cannot account for 2.3 trillion.
Now it is clear that missing money was laundered drug money used for secret projects and payoffs.
It seems none of the Fed agencies are open to real audits and Hud is run as a criminal enterprise directed by defense agencies and contractors, and Federal Reserve Banks at the cost to the public.
This article expanded my whole understanding of just how big the War Machine really is.
To Jim Glover:
You'r welcome Jim!!! I forgot to mention that Sporkin was also Chief Enforcement Officer for the Security and Exchange Commision, This enabled him to raid the headquarters of Catherine Fitts Offices of Hamilton Security Exchange and destroy her software program which made it simple for the "little guy" to navigate their way through all of the HUD-Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac consumer lending scams..Ms. Fitts contends that her company and software may well have minimized or eliminated the Mortgage fraud that swept the country in recent years...
I was also A "whistleblower" who exposed British Petroleum and Acuren Inspection Company at Prudhoe Bay Alaska. I was A Victim of Sporkin and his minions who did absolutely nothing for me as Ombudsman for B.P. and I am now BLACKLISTED and UNEMPLOYED...But thats another story..
Thanks stubones49, I appreciate what you are doing.... the truth is all we got these days and it makes life worth it.
Will C. said:
"Democrats fought and opposed regulation of Fannie Mae and Fannie Mac even though their lending practices and buying of their own crappy securitized subcrap mortgages played a huge role in the mortgage crisis".
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have been nothing short of A CIA Illegal drug washing apparatus for decades now. This fraudulent, crimminal, Government Sanctioned activity saw much of it's hayday during Iran-Contra with planeloads of Cocaine coming into Los Angeles, Cinncinnati, and Clinton's chosen Arkansas favorites..
The present British Petroleum Ombudsman, Judge Stanley Sporkin could tell you all about it. You see Stanley was Chief Legal Counsel for the CIA at the time. Stanley was also Chief "Enforcement Officer" for the Security and Exchange Commision.. He cut Legal, Binding contracts with the Attorney General and DEA that gave the CIA carte-Blanc, above the law, immunity for drug smuggling prosecution for flying Cargo Planes packed with TONS of Cocaine..L.A. Crack Cocaine Kingpin "Freeway Rickie Ross" just got out of jail and he can tell you A story or two about murdered Investigative Journalist Gary Webb, Author of "DARK ALLIANCE"..
" In his books, including Cocaine Politics and Drugs, Oil and War, as well as other writings, Peter Dale Scott has provided detailed information on the CIA-drugs connection, one article stating:
"Since at least 1950 there has been a global CIA-drug connection operating more or less continuously," relating to numerous "deep events" like JFK's assassination, the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident, Iran-Contra, and CIA's involvement with the mob, using it for "supportive counterviolence....where Communist forces have appeared strong."
"The global drug connection is not just a lateral connection between CIA field operatives and their drug-trafficking contacts. It is more significantly a global financial complex of hot money uniting prominent business, financial and government as well as underworld figures," a sort of "indirect empire (subverting) existing government," Iran-Contra one of many examples.
During Sporkin's CIA tenure, it was the covert CIA operation, involving illegal arms sales to Iran and drugs trafficking to fund the Nicaraguan Contras, the Agency and Reagan administration repeatedly disrupting official investigations until political scandal erupted in late 1986, exposing what, in fact, went on, but not enough to curtail what CIA continues to this day globally. Nor did it imprison its operatives, Bill Breeden, a former minister, the only figure incarcerated - not Ronald Reagan, GHW Bush, William French Smith, John Negroponte, Elliott Abrams, John Poindexter, Oliver North, Stanley Sporkin, or others. William J. Casey died in 1987.
Money Laundering
In 2003, the IMF estimated global money laundering at between $590 billion - $1.5 trillion a year, much of it linked to drugs trafficking, $500 billion alone from the elicit (US-controlled) Afghanistan opium trade (plus tens of millions more from hashish), most of it laundered through US and European banks, mainly the largest, but others as well worldwide, perhaps including Australia's Nugen Hand Bank.
Sporkin may have been "Slimey Affirm," the code name connection to the Australian bank, an investigation later revealing its involvement with CIA and organized crime, including drugs trafficking, money laundering, arms dealing, theft, tax evasion, and financing CIA's war in Laos, eventually causing its collapse.
Unanswered Questions
Fitts asked if Sporkin "shut down honest businesses to protect government crime....narcotics trafficking," and facilitate money laundering, what at least he knew about at CIA, his job to provide legal cover if needed.
Collaboratively with HUD, Wall Street, and the Fed, what was his role in the housing bubble, mortgage fraud, and their connection to drugs trafficking and money laundering, in combination destroying poor communities throughout the country? What does he know about government black budgets and their funding, perhaps over $1 trillion annually, many trillions cumulatively, from stolen taxpayer dollars?
Why did BP hire him as ombudsman, a man with a history of CIA involvement, signing off on a falsified federal court affidavit, and targeting legitimate businesses to facilitate massive government fraud and market manipulation?
"The Myth of the Rule of Law" by Catherine Austin Fitts is A true story about how deep the Reagan-Clinton-Bush etc. Presidencys have been involved in washing Dirty Drug Money through HUD, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and how American communities have been destroyed throughout the years-This is one good read if you want to understand how things got to where they are today...

"If this wasn't rank incompetence, it was sabotage."
BINGO!
obama - the manchurian candidate doing exactly as he and his vampire buddy's please....
MEDIA CONTROL is the elephant in the room. Without right-wingnuts on TV and on the MEDIA CONTROL airwaves, we would've gotten a public option, if not single payer. The hundreds of billions that bailed out rich investors would've gone into infrastructure development that could bring the unemployment rate to below 3%. Obama would've pulled us out of Iraq and Afghanistan. His gov't wouldn't have promised to spend billions fighting marijuana smokers in California. Obama is being bullied big time, like a little cissy, because MEDIA CONTROL has him by the balls.
Without MEDIA CONTROL, Obama would be a progressive.
STOP MEDIA CONTROL OR DIE!
Well said coolhead! You echo my thoughts exactly.
"Without MEDIA CONTROL, Obama would be a progressive."
I don't think that at all. The man is just a shrewd, conniving con man, surpassed only by his handlers and the ones who put him in place.
Great piece. Articulate and to the point.
Bravo!
Since 1972 nothing has backed the US dollar other than faith in the US government, yet it continues to be the dominant global reserve currency. All the historical excuses for Congress delegating their control to the Federal Reserve and private banks have faded. The government which creates the world’s favorite money needs neither to borrow nor to tax, only the political will to change the system.
Of course, the economic system was invented and imposed by the ancestors of the wealthiest people in the world. These elite few continue to work the system to maintain their power. These are the beneficiaries of the recent bailout which passed Congress over the opposition of 90% of the voters of both parties, but with support of the presidential candidates of both parties. They own the politicians.
coolhead -
"Media Control", like all corporative units, does not have a pulse. It is a concept. Those who control media, wars, pharma, obama, etc. are very much a heart-pounding, fire-breathing tribe.
Would you give us a false paradigm on which to project our condemnation? I prefer the real visages, and their complete exposure will come as a delight to many.
"So Larry Summers said. In making that forecast, the Obama White House took responsibility for the entire excess of joblessness above eight percent. They made it impossible to blame the ongoing disaster on George W. Bush. If this wasn't rank incompetence, it was sabotage."

{... Barack Obama
In the late summer of 1983, future United States President Barack Obama interviewed for a job at Business International Corporation. He worked there for "little more than year."[3] As a research associate in its financial services division, he edited Financing Foreign Operations, a global reference service, and wrote for Business International Money Report, a weekly financial newsletter.[4] His responsibilities included "interviewing business experts, researching trends in foreign exchange, following market developments. . . . He wrote about currency swaps and leverage leases. . . . Obama also helped write financial reports on Mexico and Brazil.[5]
CIA
The company has been identified as cover organization for the Central Intelligence Agency, e.g. see Lobster Magazine, issue 14 in 1987. According to a lengthy article in the New York Times in 1977, the co-founder of the company told the newspaper that "Eldridge Haynes [the other founder] had provided cover for four CIA employees in various countries between 1955 and 1960".[6]...}
...peace..
It seems to me that the general tone of many of the comments on this thread cast Barry as a victim of circumstances, who really wanted to do the right thing for Amerikkka.
That whole line of thinking is nonsense. Barry knew what he was doing when he hired the criminals from Bush's and Clinton's administrations who began the Democratic Party's sellout of the poor and middle class.
The whole political process in Amerikkka must thrown out and a new government formed. Perhaps a parliamentarian system that some European countries have is the answer. At the very least a constitutional amendment needs to be passed that allows the people to cast a vote of no confidence for any nationally elected person that would allow for his/her removal.
Wish I were able to see the world in stark black and white----that must make life easier
Ha, ha, that's right, blame the Jews. OK, just kidding...
