A Personal Vision for Cindy Sheehan's Campaign
Remarks of Daniel Ellsberg at a press conference August 9, 2007 at which Cindy Sheehan announced her independent candidacy for the 8th Congressional District of California, an office now held by Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House.
I don't speak for Cindy Sheehan-whom I admire unreservedly-or for her campaign. When I say "we" in what follows, I'm really just giving my own perspective on this campaign, as one of her supporters.
I see this campaign as aiming much higher than putting Cindy Sheehan in Congress in 2009. Well before that time, we aim to help restore our Constitution, to end a war and avert starting a new one, and to remove from power two officials-George W. Bush and Richard Cheney--who block those objectives before they can do more harm in their remaining months in office.
That's an ambitious project; but there's a clear path to achieving it. We will work to change public awareness and, as a result, Nancy Pelosi's policies as Speaker of the House well before the election, by revealing to the public real alternatives to the courses she and the Democrats have followed so far, and demonstrating the breadth and strength of public support for those alternatives.
The truth is that Democrats, and even Republicans, can do much better than they have been doing, under Pelosi's leadership in the House, to protect our freedoms and our security. In this campaign we will publicize specifics of what can and should be done, and let the public tell the politicians which approach they want.
One essential demand is for Pelosi to encourage, rather than to block, Congressional investigations of past and ongoing administration deception, unwisdom, illegality and unconstitutionality in pursuing an aggressive war and in curtailing our rights. Such investigations, calling forth testimony under oath of current and former officials many of whom are eager to tell the truth at last, as well as demonstrating continued administration stonewalling, will almost surely lead to what does not yet exist: irresistible pressure from a belatedly-informed public for the impeachment and removal of Bush and Cheney.
Further, we need Pelosi's leadership in rescinding the unconstitutional parts-which will not leave much-of the Patriot Acts, the Military Commisions Act and the recent, outrageous legislation purporting to legalize warrantless wiretaps and data mining. And-absolutely essential to ending our war in Iraq, ever-public pressure is needed to demand that Congress defund our indefinite occupation, providing funds only for the orderly, safe withdrawal of all our troops, contractors and bases on an announced time-table. If this campaign can help bring about even the first of these, it will also, almost incidentally, put Cindy Sheehan within reach of success in the election. This is, in fact, a historic campaign opportunity, exploiting an opening unique in American politics. At this moment, Cindy appears to face insuperable odds, opposing without party support a powerful, heavily-funded incumbent. But we aim to change that. All we are asking is for Nancy Pelosi to do what she should: to uphold her oath of office, which is not to obey a Commander-in-Chief or to enlarge a Democratic majority but to uphold and defend the Constitution.
If we can induce her to do that, then a year from now Cindy Sheehan should be running for an open seat, or against a brand-new incumbent appointed by our Republican governor. Nancy Pelosi, third in line for succession when Bush and Cheney are impeached and removed, will be in the White House. That will, as it happens, leave an open field for Cindy.
So you see, it's nothing personal for us. After all, as representatives of big business go, Nancy Pelosi is better than most. We don't aim to kick her out of politics, we aim to kick her upstairs. And there's a bonus: President Pelosi as a write-in candidate in November. She's far from ideal, from the point of view of members of this campaign, but for a Democrats we could do a lot worse. Off the record, some of us see this as the best strategy for keeping Hillary out of the White House without letting a Republican in.
So there it is: a vision for 2009 that can evoke some real enthusiasm: Cindy in the House, Pelosi in the White House, the US out of Iraq. Our Constitution back, and Bush and Cheney under criminal indictment.

Show AllThis is a good start--keep it up Cindy and crew! Especially keep pounding away on the spinelessness of this congress under Mrs. Pelosi's leadership(?)
For anyone wanting more particulars on that count see:
http://www.markfiore.com/animation/aye.html
I see this as a campaign of fearlessness, of standing up not only for the Constitution but for truth itself. Count me enthusiastic.
I'd like to do more than kick Nancy Pelosi upstairs. I'd like to kick her and Hary Reid and John Conyers all over the parking lot!!! Looks like somebody's been drinking the Koolaid again!!
How can one contribute to Cincy's campaign?
I got a vision for 2009. 4 more years of the same old crap!!!
Wise Guy, Send her a check. Do it quick before the banks all close. Read the article on today's Common Dreams, 'Very Scary Things', by Paul Krugman.
Better yet, send Canadian cashiers checks.
RE: Ellsberg, now - still a good voice
I remember standing on the Boston Commons green before the first Iraq invasion over Kuwait, listening to Ellsberg speak.
I remember sitting against the wall of a freighter cabin-sized bedroom at night, with a group of kindred minds, weeping with rage as the news of the bombing and missile strikes came in on a little radio...
I and others had worked hard to stop it, just as we worked to stop the destructive Iraq sanctions that followed...
Totally utopian, Ellsberg - but it is integrative - you feel as though you live inside the truth, even if it is missing in the world.
I support whatever it takes to highlight the impeachment issue. This can only help. 50% of the American people want impeachment. It is starting to seep out into the mainstream. There are die-hards who will never understand why this administration is a disaster, but they fortunately aren't more than 25% of the population.
We know that Pelosi is not going to do the things Ellsberg suggests so Cindy will be running against her.
There are many of us posting here that are willing to help. We don't want to kick Pelosi upstairs, we want to kick her out!
Think of the impact on politics. Incumbent Representative, Speaker of the House, defeated by Outsider!
Like wise guy said: How can one contribute to Cindy's campaign?
All right Daniel maybe you haven't been drinking the Koolaid. But ya definitely been smoking something illegal! Admit it your a joker,a smoker a midnight toker. Nancy Pelosi in the white house? PLLLEEEZZZZEEE!!! Let me go throw up!! Alright I'll go away now.. gotta go to work pay my taxes so I can continue to support this Military Industrial complex we call a nation!
This could be the start of a real third party alternative in this country!
It has been well 'proven' that Bush is our president, a dictator who states our Constitution is just a G.D. piece of paper, and right now, because of Pelosi and Conyers, it is.
If Pelosi in the White House would make one vomit, what does Bush in there make one do.
At least she wouldn't nuke Iran.___ Would she?
If we nuke Iran, or just bomb them wth DU bombs, our nation is NOT going to survive. That I am sorry to say,__ is reality. Tell me I'm wrong__ Please,___ and prove it.
How very sad, that one sees this anti-democratic thinking (emoting) so often here in print.
The movement is in the campaign.
People will support this cause because it is just.
1000 volunteers for Ms. Sheehan can make a difference here.
Volunteer to help her campaign. Plan a vacation to San Francisco. Come work with great people for a great cause: Democracy in America
RE: "PLLLEEEZZZZEEE!!!"
The accepted demotic spelling is "Puhleeeeze."
Also, Ellsberg is being intentionally utopian to highlight the fact that Democrats have choices and are abdicating them by choice, not out of 'but-we-don't-have-enough-of-a-majority' necessity.
Go Cindy! Take out the Speaker of DEMouse!!
Let's hear it for an (at last) cleary-articulated, comprehensive plan! I like it. Thank you, Daniel Ellsberg.
Also, we don't need a 3rd party alternative. We need an opposition party representing the people.
I was at the press conference yesterday and spoke briefly with Dan but quite a while with Cindy and I was very impressed with her message and passion and believe her candidacy is a very positive thing.
Cindy is saying many of the things a lot of us think and it is very courageous of her to make such a public stand. I think it is time we start, on some level, REALLY working with one another to try and slow down this corporate monolith. I think she is a very positive force and I have personally offered her my support and I hope you will, as well.
"...The procedure was illegal, as after a while you all admitted.
But at the time I was the only one ... who stood out against your
doing an illegal act and voted against you;
and although the orators were ready to indict me and arrest me,
while you urged them on and made an uproar, I thought that I
ought to risk all danger on the side of law and justice rather
than side with you in an unjust decree out of fear of imprisonment
or death.
This took place while Athens still was a democracy."
Socrates
from the Apology
Thanx Dr. Zimmerman. I will definitely take a vacation to SF to help Cindy. We have to get off our backsides and step away from our keyboards. We're having a Progressive Democrats of America party in Chicago. Come to it. Join the fight. Don't worry about being spied on. The worm will turn.
"All we are asking is for Nancy Pelosi to do what she should: to uphold her oath of office, which is not to obey a Commander-in-Chief or to enlarge a Democratic majority but to uphold and defend the Constitution."
That's it in a nutshell!
Democratic politicians don't seem to understand that the majority in this country want to live in a democracy, not a dictatorship that only recognizes corporate greed. Is that so difficult to understand?
Have they forgotten?: "Reagan swept Mondale in a landslide in the 1984 election, gaining the support of disaffected blue-collar workers, north and south , partially because the Dems did nothing to save their jobs, one of the main reasons they became susceptible to losing the so-called "culture wars."
Reagan of course did nothing to correct the situation and in fact made it worse when he "deregulated" everything in sight and smiled upon hostile corporate takeovers, wage-cutting, plant closings and the outsourcing of U.S. jobs. These profit maximizing tactics at the expense of American workers continued to be exploited by Bush I, Clinton and even more egregiously by Bush II.
Unjust global economic development isn't working for the citizens of this country or citizens in other countries where governments are playing the same elitist game of "trickle-up" economics.
Returning to the article, complicity in undermining the Constitution and "The People's" Bill of Rights is certainly not going to win votes for Democrats!
It's time the Democrats rethink their position on these critical issues. Will we live in a Democracy or become a third-world dictatorship? We are heading toward the latter very quickly.
Question: Why would we ever want to put any American in the White House who does not take the oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies both foreign and domestic seriously? Pelosi's only oath of allegiance is to the Democratic Party. I don't trust her and I never will.
But I will be sending $$ to Cindy. I might even move to the Bay area to work in her campaign.
The only place I can think of kicking Nancy Pelosi further up is Bush's ahem... well you know what.
What the voters need formost is where is Pelosi's money invested in,OIL!! MILITARY IDUSTRIAL EMPIRE, then we will know why she votes the way she does. Or what information does the BUSH CRIME FAMILY hold over her head, thank you.
The tragedy of our generation is having to see the next generation, one we thought was safe from being thrown into criminally-planned wars, dumped into the catastrophe by those coward frat boys, Cheney & Bush & Rumsfeld et al.
Can the people seize the moment and make real the sovereignty which is reduced to mere rhetoric by our rulers?
Keep going, Cindy -- you are the voice of many who remain unheard & invisible, but who are coming together as one, regardless of all opposition and all attempts to stifle truth.
Thank you again, Daniel Ellsberg.
And for those who haven't read his memoir, "Secrets", it provides probably the most unvarnished and informed look at the dynamics of 'decision-making' in going to, and continuing, war.
Cindy's official website is .......

There is nothing up yet but bookmark it for the future...

I admire what Daniel Elsberg has done and continues to do, however I agree with most posters that no matter what she does Nancy Pelosi famous remark of "impeachment is off the table" is her kiss of death. Or if you want us to support you then to paraphrase.. "Nancy you got a lot of 'splaining to do"!
Harry Reid and John Conyers I will give another chance, but as far as I am concerned as repugnant as is sounds I would rather have Hillary than Nancy however if it comes down to Hillary or nothing then we are really in big trouble.
A dream ticket would be Al Gore and Obama
Thanks, keyman12!
I sent an email a little while ago to Gold Star Families For Peace (contact@gsfp.org), and as yet have gotten no reply.
I had a look at http://www.cindyforcongress.org/ as you suggested, and just as you have said, there's no info there yet, but I'll keep my eye on the site.
I'll volunteer to work for Cindy, just say when and where. I, too, will keep my eye on the site, and tell others.
Thank you, Dan Ellsberg, for your fine plan.
We must must merely say yes, and the rest is up to the Great Mystery, which can and does move mountains.
Me for Congress!
Cindy Sheehan
My statement to the press when I announced my
candidacy at the Presidio on August 9th
Two years ago this week, I started my first vigil in
Crawford, Tx, at what became Camp Casey I near
George's vacation ranch. I never thought that my path
would lead me here today. Nothing before Casey was
killed in the illegal and immoral war in Iraq prepared
me for this new direction, but looking back on my life
since April 04. 2004, I believe this is the next
natural step to bringing the occupations of Iraq and
Afghanistan to a swifter conclusion and those
responsible accountable for the mess our world is in.
An electorate disgusted with the policies of the Bush
regime put the Democrats in the majority in Congress
in November '06. We voted for change, however,
Congress, under the Speakership of Ms. Pelosi has done
nothing but protect the status quo of the corporate
elite and, in fact, since she has been the Speaker,
the situation in the Middle East has grown far worse,
with Congress' help, and recently more of our
essential freedoms were given to BushCo by Congress.
That is not what we elected them to do!
A great majority of citizens in California's 8th
Congressional district want the Bush regime impeached
and want our troops home from the Middle East. I
believe Ms. Pelosi has lost touch with the people of
this district and America and it's time for our reps
that aren't doing their jobs by upholding their sworn
oaths to the Constitution to receive a wakeup call!
I agree that with over 45 million Americans uninsured,
we need universal health care. I agree that with many
of our young people joining the military to receive
college credit (which very few take full advantage
of), it's time to make college affordable. I agree
that the people in the administrative branch are
corrupt, as are many members of Congress, and ethics
need to be reformed. None of these worthy goals can be
accomplished while we're spending 12 million of our
tax dollars an hour in Iraq and while the foxes run
the henhouse. In this once great nation of ours, the
rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer
and the middle class is rapidly disappearing along
with the "American dream" of home ownership. The time
is now to bring our tax dollars home from the Middle
East to help the people of California's 8th and to
make our communities safer and more prosperous.
Incredibly, even before the November elections, Ms
Pelosi took part of the Constitution off the table and
it's time to put it back on! Mss. Pelosi colluded with
BushCo to take away our 4th Amendment protection
against unreasonable search and seizure. Congress
needs to make that body relevant again as a co-equal
branch of government that has a responsibility to put
checks and balances on the executive branch not be
conspirators in its crimes and murder.
The Patriot Act and Military Commissions Act need to
be repealed and Habeas Corpus needs to be restored.
These things can only happen with fearless leadership,
not fearful capitulation to a lying President.
I am running unaffiliated with any political party
because I believe the corporately controlled "two"
party system is responsible for keeping our country in
a state of cold and hot wars for decades and it's time
to rein in the military industrial war complex that
President Eisenhower warned us of almost 50 years ago.
My candidacy and service will put people before
profits and people before political expediency. This
country is ripe for a change and it is going to start
right here and right now!
I dedicate my candidacy to the people of Iraq and
Afghanistan that have been tragically harmed by BushCo
with the complicity of Congress, Inc.
I dedicate my candidacy to my children and unborn
grandchildren. All the children of the world deserve
long lives lived in peace, prosperity and
environmental sustainability.
Last of all, I dedicate my candidacy to my hero, Casey
who always stood up for what he believed in, even if
it wasn't popular. He is my role model and I always
strive to make him proud.
Thank you.

Pelosi is ineffective as a leader. We are tired of people going to Congress that DO NOT listen, but rather continue to play politics with the very serious matters that demand attention. She took what American's wanted off the table. She did not have our permission or our support to do that. Where she's at today was part of a mandate for change in the last election, but things have only gotten worse! That's closer to being an immoral act than the actions of a leader! How can anyone suggest she merit a promotion to higher office?
We cannot continue to apply the mentality of voting for the "best of the worse" Its time we established our elected officials respect us and our country - or suffer the consequences of Impeachment, including Ms. Pelosi! Lets get rid of the idea that our politicians must be part of the elite or the rich. These people are so removed from how you and I are live, or how we think that there is no real way they can represent us. I want the people serving in Washington to act like the rest of us, who have values and concerns and dreams that most resemble middle America. I am certain Cindy qualifies.
I am also certain the best (announced) candidate for President is someone many can't even spell the name of. The media ignores him because he is not part of the good old boys team, and he is not financially beholden to the corporate media, AIPAC, pharma, or the war machinery.
Our country is in such dire need of good leadership it will be miraculous if the public can become informed in time to pull together and support a team that will put the pieces back together again. Meanwhile, I dream of a Gore / Kucinich ticket because I believe this is our best hope.
Go Cindy go!!! We need truth tellers to represent us. And I agree with time4peace, Gore/Kucinich ticket.
Cindy...You go, girl! As I said earlier, there are many of us that post here that are willing to help.
I will keep my eye on the website. I'm sure there are many others who, like me, are retired and would be happy to spend some time in the district, helping out however we can.
To Nancy Pelosi: Your re-election is OFF THE TABLE!
Cindy is aiming too low. I say its long past time to kick Democratic Party ass, instead of just whining.
"Nader/Sheehan in '08!"
Cindy: Woo-hoo!
Whoops-- there goes another rubber tree plant!
I would like to know the real reason Pelosi is not doing these things Daniel suggests.
I'd like to see Edwards win the pesidency and have Cindy as the vice president. Or have Cindy as his Chief of staff. That combo could give us 16 years to clean up the mess Bush created in eight. Of course I'm not certain anyone will ever be able to clean up Bush's mess.
To Cindy Sheehan, and her supporters!
You correctly state in your post above:
"I am running unaffiliated with any political party
because I believe the corporately controlled "two"
party system is responsible for keeping our country in a state of cold and hot wars for decades and it's time to rein in the military industrial war complex that President Eisenhower warned us of almost 50 years ago."
You cannot defeat the corporate controlled two party system on your own. You cannot do this by simply defeating Nancy Pelosi! Or even with all your enthusiastic CD supporters moving to San Francisco!
(I remember a magnificent march in the '60s to Kezar stadium in protest to the Vietnam War!)
You need to involve all of the people in America who realize that, at many different levels and crises, that we the people are being destroyed by this Bush regime. You enumerated some of these crises above in your post.
PLEASE INVOLVE THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WHO AGREE WITH YOU IN YOUR CRITICISM OF THE TWO CORPORATE CONTROLLED PARTIES!
PLEASE TAKE THE LOGIC OF YOUR THINKING TO IT'S MOST POWERFUL CONCLUSION! CALL NOW FOR A FOUNDING CONVENTION OF A NEW PARTY!
Bring to this founding convention(s) the MILLIONS of individuals and activists from the grass roots organizations that support all the things you have mentioned above. Let their agendas become the united platform of the new party!
No longer isolated and atomized, the millions of people can be mobilized to support and run for office in their local, state and federal offices around the country! Not just one seat in Congress but all the seats at the Federal, State, and local governments.
THIS IS THE MOST REVOLUTIONARY CHANGE THAT COULD TAKE PLACE TODAY THAT WOULD BRING HOPE ... AND EVEN JOY! ... BACK TO THIS COUNTRY AND THE WORLD! DO NOT LET THIS UNIQUE POINT IN HISTORY SLIP BY!!!
Thank you Cindy!
--------------------------------------------------
DUMP THE DEMOCRATS!
UNITE INTO A NEW THIRD PARTY NOW!
We the people, opposed to the destruction of the planet and it's peoples, now atomized and powerless in "grass roots" and "special interest" groups, must unite our efforts and resources into a new party to replace the corrupt Democratic Party! A new party that rejects corporate funding in order to end the corporate plunder of the federal government.
A new party explicitly opposed to the Project for the New American Century. Opposed to unending war for profit and power. Cut the military budget by 50%, shut down the 700 military bases around the world. Re-instate taxes cut by Bush gang.
A new party that commits the entire resources of the country to end global warming, end imperialist wars, implements true non-profit universal health care. promotes mass transportation, develops renewaable energy, and produces the essentials for human survival.
A new party that promotes an economy that works towards fulfilling the economic needs of all the people, not just to profit a tiny minority of super wealthy. No more people living on the streets! No more hospitalized people being dumped into the streets when they have no money or health insurance! (See the film SICKO)
A new party to unite all of the oppressed people of this country. A new party that cuts across all the false social and cultural divisions that keep us forever powerless (racial, ethnic, age, language, etc.). A new party to unite us against the unending destruction of peoples and planet.
A SOCIALIST PARTY to promote the end of gangster capitalism, run-amok capitalism, which is supported by both Democratic and Republican parties.
A new party to support the labor movement and all working people. We urge the labor movement to stop supporting the Democratic Party (already besotted by corporate money), and to focus its precious resources to fund a new national radio and television network. By being on the air 24 hours a day the labor movement can provide the latest news, information, education and current affairs analysis desperately needed by all working people. This effort, combined with the formation of the new party, will be a bold step towards reviving the organized labor movement.
For years we have listened to radio programs like DEMOCRACY NOW! that has discussed with numerous "grass roots" groups desperately struggling to make a positive change in society. Anti-war protest groups, civil rights groups, union struggles, affordable housing groups, teachers unions, health care access, seniors about Social Security, have involved millions of people. Now is the time to unite the energy and resources of the people into a new party.
The new party provides a means of uniting the "special interest" agendas of each group into the platform of the new party. The new party candidates, selected from the various individuals and groups, would become the candidates representing their cause and the new party. The new party will contest for office at every level of government in order to take power. The new party will provide the new leadership and new programs this country desperately needs.
There is still time before November 2008 elections to start this process. Even the announcement and preparation for a founding convention of such a new party will shock both Democrats and Republican incumbents. They will know that their days are numbered!
The needs of all previous "minority" and "special interests" people now become the platform of the new party representing the vast majority of people. Can the existing activists of so-called "minority" and "special interest" groups overcome their existing powerlessness, and link up with each other to start this new party?
This all-inclusive struggle will attract millions of atomized working people, often non-voters and uninvolved people, who have been atomized, exploited, brain-washed by corporate media and ultimately destroyed by gangster capitalism.
Maybe Pelosi wants impeachment off the table because she's got cold feet about being president.
Cinday will bring a lot to the table- Remember she can draw volunteers, money from around country.
But more importantly, her presence will demand that issues get discussed substantively- impeachment, Iraq, Afghanistan, the criminality of the Bush regime. She'll cut through the media boolshit.
Send some bucks to her at www.CindyforCongress.org. I have despite limeited and fixed income. How 'bout you?
If every person who has been inspired by Cindy did something to support her, the rumblings in DC would make them think they're having an earthquake. Or maybe a flod ala Lavallas.
Time for TOT- Tuchas on Table- Put your money, time and heart where your mouth is. Do it now.
pin:
I believe Pelosi, Reid, et al have been threatened: If any move toward impeachment were to begin, the administration will immediately - THAT DAY - commence the bombing of Iran. This would include nukes.
The Dems are terrified of this and so impeachment is "off the table" (I am so sick of that phrase!). Isn't the fatuousness of the excuses enough to tip you off that the refusal to impeach is based on some other overpowering cause - such as terror? The answer of course is to call a press conference and GO PUBLIC, laying the whole business out before the American people and the world and calling for mass rallies to resist, demand the resignation of Cheneybush, return to "democracy", etc. However, this will never happen, as the Dems also fear mass mobilizations which risk calling into question the legitimacy our political institutions (including them!). Compare for example, the responses to the theft of the elections in the U.S. and Mexico by the respective presidential candidates Fightin' John Kerry and Lopez Obrador.
The horrible irony of course, is that Cheneybush is going to attack Iran in any case. But the Dems cling to the forlorn hope that they can win in '08 and thus end the regime of the Bushies. "Not going to happen my friend". We have seen our last election IMHO. The concentration camps are already under construction.
i was looking on congresspedia today and i found that one of ms. pelosi's biggest contributors to her 2006 campaign was occidental oil.
does that clear anything up for anybody?
i am heading to jordan and syria to see what the policy of our country has done to the tragically displaced people from Iraq.
talk to you all soon!
love
cindy
I do believe Occidential Oil is Al Gore's baby. The Elks Hills land sale in central California to Occidential Petrolium was pushed on by Gore. My my.
Support Cindy. She has lept into a den of lions and needs some ammo. Bill BRG's post, along with many others, is right on target.
3rd party
It's been done before, without success most of the time.
I think there are about 140 3rd parties at the present time. Most of third parties are small groups of ex-Democrats. Groups that have drifted away from the Democrats over the years. If all those people, plus the newly dissatisfied and currently leaving, plus the always dissatisfied but never leaving all got together and became active in the Democratic Party and remained active they could marginalize the DLC, the Blue Dogs, and the rest.
RE: 3rd PARTY VOTERS ARE VOTING WITH THEIR FEET
John F. Butterfield August 11th, 2007 8:31 am
"Groups that have drifted away from the Democrats over the years."
Got it backwards - the Democratic Party has drifted away from them. When a party gets too out of step with its electorate, it loses votes. That is what is happening - and hectoring or luring them back with prospects of internal reform won't get them back.
So, the strategy for the "always dissatisfied but never leaving" Democrats is clear - simply make clear to the DLC that this is the situation, and that if they want votes they have to lose the triangulating strategy. Or lose.
Pass that on at the next DNC meeting, wouldja'?
There are good reasons why in state government for example officials can not receive money, gifts, free tickets, etc because of the corrupting influence of anyone trying to sway them to their cause. Lobbyists, as Cindy pointed out Occidental Petroleum in Ms. Pelosi's case, have heavily contributed to her campaign. I believe by the very nature of lobbyists that Washington is a cesspool of corruption. Unless we cause a new way for campaigns to be financed before and after elections this corrupting influence will remain to be a cancer on all we hold dear in democracy. We are in the red zone as far as our democracy goes and while many Americans feel it they dont have a grasp on WHAT THE HELL IS REALLY GOING ON HERE! A great book I just read for anyone wanting to have a better idea of what the hell is going on with our government should read: The Bush Agenda-Invading the world one economy at a time by Antonia Juhasz. Great book!!! It really opened my eyes to understand Why were really in Iraq and soon to be in IRAN!! Please read it if your in the dark about our governments agenda. Cindy best wishes if your going to Iraq I'm sure you will be aghast at what you see may it steel you to fight the good fight!!! All the best. Onward!!
Right on! We need to get behind Pelosi. She does not need someone nipping at her heels from the Democrats. She needs us to lift her up. Also, just what are Sheehan's qualifications for Congress besides popularity? Republicans love to see us weaken ourselves.
I'm a Libertarian who doesn't like big government. A lot of what Cindy stands for is big government. Still, I'd rather have her than Pelosi. She just helped Bush make big government get bigger.
A lot of what Cindy stands for is big government? Cindy is a voice crying in the wilderness!! Can't you hear it!!! shes calling for sanity, integrity,a returning to what we once were or at least claimed we were! (How ironic that Bush Sr. once called on America to be a gentler kinder country!!) Actually I'd take big government, small government over what we have now CORPORATE FASCISM!!!
Pelosi for the White House? What is it with these Democratic Party flacks?
Are they utterly incapable of reason?
No wonder the GOP dominates talk radio!
Butterfield: Third Parties aren't an easy way out, but they're the only way out.
