The Senate Fails to Protect our Freedom to Vote

WASHINGTON

Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement after the Senate failed to advance the Freedom to Vote Act to a full floor debate:

"It is absolutely critical that our nation has a transparent elections process we can trust, where all Americans have equal freedom to vote, no matter our color, background, or zip code. By preventing this bill from moving forward to a full floor debate, Senate Republicans have blocked access to our most sacred and fundamental right in a democracy -- the right to cast our ballots freely, safely and equally. Our voices and calls for federal legislation that will help realize the promise of our democracy will not be silenced. The American people cannot wait any longer."

The Leadership Conference sent a letter of support to the Senate on the Freedom to Vote Act. You can view that letter here.

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 200 national organizations to promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States.
