Sunrise on Roe Reversal: "What Will We Tell Young Voters This Fall?"

In response to the release of the Supreme Court decision, which would overturn Roe v. Wade, Sunrise Movement Executive Director, Varshini Prakash, released the following statement:

"I don't have the words to express the grief, anger and disappointment in our institutions I feel. Right wing extremists have been building towards this day for years, and when Democratic leadership had the chance to codify Roe into law, they declined. Instead of politicians tweeting their sympathies today, we call on them to do everything they can to protect access to abortion.

WASHINGTON

In response to the release of the Supreme Court decision, which would overturn Roe v. Wade, Sunrise Movement Executive Director, Varshini Prakash, released the following statement:

"I don't have the words to express the grief, anger and disappointment in our institutions I feel. Right wing extremists have been building towards this day for years, and when Democratic leadership had the chance to codify Roe into law, they declined. Instead of politicians tweeting their sympathies today, we call on them to do everything they can to protect access to abortion.

"What is the point of having a Democratic trifecta if they don't fight for us when extremists are ripping away our rights? They must take immediate action, or will lose young voters. If Democrats can't follow through on campaign promises as vital as codifying Roe, what will we tell young voters this fall?"

Earlier this year, Sunrise Movement shared this memo with Democratic leadership, urging them to take action, or risk losing young people in 2022.

Sunrise Movement is a movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process.
