White House FBI Interference Flouts Rule of Law
Statement of Common Cause President Karen Hobert Flynn.
WASHINGTON - Americans expect and deserve an independent Department of Justice to enforce our nation’s laws free from political interference from the White House. Reported White House interference, including by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, offends the rule of law and must stop immediately. This interference is not appropriate at any time but certainly not when the Administration itself is under investigation.
These actions are more in line with an authoritarian regime than with the executive branch of our democracy. They are particularly shocking at a time when the Attorney General himself has recently been interviewed by the special counsel’s office.

FRIENDS: Help Us Fight
Independent journalism has become the last firewall against government and corporate lies. Yet, with frightening regularity, independent media sources are losing funding, closing down or being blacked out by Google and Facebook. Never before has independent media been more endangered. If you believe in Common Dreams, if you believe in people-powered independent media, please support us now and help us fight—with truths—against the lies that would smother our democracy. Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing. Thank you. -- Craig Brown, Co-founder
