As Industry Fuels Climate Crisis With Unprecedented Profits, Leading Members of Congress, Climate Advocates, and Frontline Leaders Call on Biden to 'Declare a Climate Emergency'

Following mixed signals from the White House, Congressional Democrats and climate allies are coming together to call on Biden to declare a climate emergency and hold Big Oil accountable.

WASHINGTON

Today, leading members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, including Chair Pramila Jayapal, and Representatives Ro Khanna, Jamaal Bowman, Jared Huffman, and Bonnie Watson Coleman, will join climate advocacy groups and frontline leaders at the House Triangle to call on President Biden to declare a climate emergency and take bold action to end fossil fuel extraction and boost renewable energy.

Last week, President Biden and his administration sent out mixed signals around the possibility of declaring a climate emergency. As the country faces ongoing and record-setting droughts, heat waves and floods, declaring a climate emergency would unlock a series of executive authorities that could have a major impact on driving down emissions and protecting communities from the impacts of fossil fuel development and climate disasters.

As Big Oil ushers in the first wave of Q2 earning reports this week, the climate movement is coming together to show that leading members of Congress, climate advocates, and frontline leaders are still committed to bold climate action and taking on the fossil fuel industry.
