WASHINGTON

Today, Sunrise Movement announces the endorsement of progressive challenger and Green New Deal champion, Cori Bush. Running in Missouri's first district, Bush's campaign is intent on delivering a progressive win for her home district with the support of Sunrise's army of young activists.

Driven to run for elected office after the protests in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014 following the police killing of Michael Brown, Jr., Ms. Bush has been a voice for the district as the movement has taken new life since the murder of George Floyd in May. Having seen how the Green New Deal connects climate action, environmental justice, and economic reforms, Bush has made it a core part of her policy platform in addition to supporting Medicare For All, Universal Rent Control, and massive reforms of the criminal justice and prison system.

"Sunrise Movement started with just a small group of young activists dreaming of a better world. When we face unprecedented crises like a global pandemic, climate change, and the violence of racism, we must reimagine what's possible. This is our moment, and I'm proud to join forces with Sunrise as we prepare to make history this August," said MO-01 Congressional Candidate Cori Bush.

"Candidates like Cori are exactly who we need running for Congress. She is a mom, activist, progressive, and, most of all, she is someone who cares for her and has shown up for her community. In recent months, Cori has stood with and for the movement for Black lives in her community, while the incumbent has been absent, but she's also backed the Green New Deal and stood for climate and environmental justice. That's why our St. Louis hub has been with her since the beginning of the cycle, and why our national movement is throwing our weight behind her to help her get out the vote for the final stretch of this campaign," said Sunrise Movement Political Director Evan Weber.

After having run for the same seat in 2018, the Bush campaign is stronger than ever, having been boosted by constant media attention and impressive fundraising in the first two quarters of 2020. This puts her in a strong position to be the next progressive Democrat to unseat a conservative incumbent.

Sunrise Movement plans to offer the strength of our movement to the campaign after having supported other progressive challengers such as Jamaal Bowman, Marie Newman, and Mike Siegel on the path to primary victories in this cycle. Sunrise volunteers have made more than two and a half million calls to potential voters during this cycle.

Sunrise Movement is a movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process.
