CPJ Urges El-Sisi to Release All Journalists Jailed in Egypt

The Committee to Protect Journalists writes a letter to Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi expressing concern about the deteriorating climate for press freedom in Egypt, days before he addresses the United Nations General Assembly in New York. CPJ welcomes the pardon on Wednesday of the Al-Jazeera journalists, but calls for the immediate release of all other journalists imprisoned in Egypt in relation to their work.

The full letter is available in English and Arabic.

THE LAST FIREWALL AGAINST THE LIES

Independent media has become the last firewall against government and corporate lies.   Yet, with frightening regularity, independent media sources are losing funding, closing down or being blacked out by Google and Facebook.  Never before has independent media been more endangered.  If you believe in Common Dreams, if you believe in people-powered independent media, please support our critical Winter campaign now and help us fight—with truths—against the lies that would smother our democracy. Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing.
