Today, author Bill McKibben and 350 Action, a national organization working to change the politics of climate change, endorsed Democratic candidate Cynthia Nixon for New York Governor. In Nixon's platform for Governor, she supports a fast and just transition to 100% renewable energy in New York state. She is also an advocate for divestment and has pledged to refuse money from the fossil fuel industry. Nixon has come out against fossil fuel projects like the CPV gas plant and supports a moratorium on new fossil fuel infrastructure.

"Cynthia Nixon has put forward an impressive and ambitious plan for climate action that supports what communities across New York have been demanding for years," said 350 Action Executive Director May Boeve. "The urgency of climate change means the Empire State must make bold changes, right now, to protect our future. New Yorkers deserve a governor like Cynthia who will work with and for them to transition from fossil fuels to a 100% renewable energy economy."

"Cynthia Nixon understands that New York's prosperity rests in large measure on how fast it moves," said 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben. "She's using her gutsy run to show that the Empire State will thrive if climate justice becomes a constant priority."

Nixon emphasized support for low-income families, communities of color, and workers in her plans for a transition to renewable energy. She said in her questionnaire, "I support the Climate and Community Protection Act, which mandates that 40% of state energy funding be directed toward the low-income communities and communities of color most impacted by climate change. The bill sets fair labor standards for new clean energy jobs that receive state funding, so we can make sure that green jobs are always good jobs." Speaking to the need for this transition to be both just and fast, she added, "We must take immediate bold action that sets NY on track to achieve 100% renewable energy no later than 2050. If we don't get to work now, it will be too late."

350 Action is empowering voters across the country to make a direct impact in the most important climate races in the nation. This year, 350 Action has also endorsed U.S. congressional candidates Deb Haaland (NM-1), Jess King (PA-11), Kaniela Ing (HI-1), and Thomas Heckroth (IA-1), and gubernatorial candidates Ben Jealous (D-MD), Cathy Glasson (D-IA), Andrew Gillum (D-FL), and Bob Massie (D-MA).

350 Action is the independent political action arm of the non-profit, non-partisan climate justice group 350.org.
