Failed Air Security is But One of Several Fiascos
There's a lot that remains unsaid despite all that has been said about the foiled terrorist attack on a Detroit-bound plane Christmas Day.
More than the experts, it's the public that quickly caught on to the essential truth, namely, that airline security has been a farce.
The tens of billions of dollars spent only allowed politicians to put on the theatrics of action, bureaucrats to build empires, and newly minted security companies to make huge profits - without perceptibly improving safety.
The shoes on your feet and the tiny tube of cream in your bag may be allowed at one gate but not the other of the same terminal at the same hour. Terrorists' bomb powder may get through but granny's skin lotion must be confiscated.
The watch list of 560,000 names does not stop potential terrorists but flags and strands law-abiding citizens whose names vaguely resemble someone else's. Or because different states, or agencies within a state, don't talk to each other, nor do their databases, even when the concerned father of a radicalized young man alerts the Americans.
When disasters have been averted, they've been by sheer luck and the heroism of passengers/crews.
Whenever the system has been shown to have failed, it has been ramped up with more of the same, and passengers harassed ever more. This is the inevitable outcome of how, post-9/11, we let ourselves be pushed into fear and panic, manipulated by vested political and business interests, and rendered essentially helpless and incapable of seeing the big picture.
The airline security failure is but one fiasco among many.
Nine years, $1.3 trillion and two wars and many miniwars later, we have more terrorism than before.
There are several sub-scandals.
Just as millions of passengers have been the chief victims of travel security, it's the civilians of Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere who've been made to pay the biggest price.
Here, we are harassed. There, they are killed, maimed and displaced, by the tens of thousands.
What is it about our modern states that makes them so incompetent, destructive and self-defeating? To cover up their colossal failures, we have been fed a series of clichés and false theories.
Suicide bombers were spurred on by Islam's promise of virgins in Paradise, we were told. That line lasted only until the ascent of women bombers, especially in Chechnya, who had no such sexual favours to anticipate in heaven.
Terrorists were said to be inspired by Saudi Wahhabism. That theory was buried when Saudi Arabia proved more ruthless in crushing Al Qaeda than anyone else. (The explosive smuggled aboard the Detroit-bound plane was the same used in a recent failed assassination attempt on a Saudi deputy minister targeting Al Qaeda.)
It was the madrassahs - especially in poor and failed/failing states of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen and Nigeria - that were breeding terrorists. Except that, of late, terrorists have been coming out of the public schools of Canada, the U.S. and Europe. And the U.S. Army, as in Fort Hood, Tex.
Many are worldly, wealthy and educated. Black, brown and white. Asian, African or Western. Immigrant or local born/bred.
Like the friendly murderer from the neighbourhood who leaves everyone baffled, these men shocked acquaintances and also their parents, some of whom tipped off the authorities (as in the case of five American wannabe jihadists who recently turned up in Pakistan).
Ah, but they are all Muslims, born in the faith or converts. Bingo! Islam has failed to come to grips with modernity. Except that the militants are maintaining websites and recruiting on You Tube.
It's "radical Islam" that we must snuff out. Ergo, every Muslim must be like Irshad Manji. That would do it.
As stupid as all this is, it is clever.
It keeps us away from linking the spreading Muslim militancy to the wars being waged on Muslims; Muslim/Arab lands and peoples being occupied and oppressed, directly or through puppet regimes; and Muslims being subjected to blatant double standards as well as cultural warfare, every day. But few in power want to hear that because that would entail challenging the edifice of the American empire and its many beneficiaries.

Show AllThis was not a FAILURE in Airline Security. Someone with the authority to do so, allowed the security measures to be bypassed. This is beyond dispute and Al Qaeda does not have such authority.
Some other facts that are coming out that the media not reporting on or that are brushed aside as meaningless without any critical thought.
1>The Father of this Nigerian is NOT a banker. He is an arms dealer in Nigeria with known and well established links to the Mossad and Israel arms dealers.
2>The USA is claiming that two of the current leaders of "Al Qaeda" were once held in Gitmo and released by American Authorities.
3>Yemeni authorities announced the arrest of several members of this cell listing the SAME NAME as that claimed by the US as a leader of that cell as one of the leaders. On making that arrest they claimed that the Terrorist groups had links to Israeli Intelligence.

I have already given the links to the articles that speak of how this Nigerian, with a passport that was flagged on multiple databases was allowed to bypass security at Schipol.
You beat me to it; any time I hear the term "al Quaeda" or some such nonsense, I know lies and propaganda are afoot. There are so many contradictions and inconsistencies in these fairly tales it is laughable. They can't even get the propaganda straight. No matter, they don't have to, the corporate media does the rest.
I have come to a point where this is tragic comedy, and I really do have to laugh.
"Someone with the authority to do so, allowed the security measures to be bypassed."
Good link supporting this statement. I consider statements by members of the travelling public who were at passport control at Schiphol to be far more useful sources of information than anything the MSM or politicians could ever report.
EDIT: After reading more of Kurt Haskell's reports at mlive he states that the bomber was helped by an Indian in Amsterdam and an different Indian was arrested from flight 253 (although the official story is discrediting the passengers). I doubt that Mr. Haskell can distinguish Indian from Pakistani. So I figure a Pakistani influence (maybe ISI) is more likely than Indian.
Perhaps BUT.
If you will follow the news India and Israel have recently been sharing Intel resources. Israel is Indias number one supplier of arms. Thy have both made pronouncements that they have to help each other fight Islamic terrorism using these statements to stoke Militarism and the erosion of civil Liberties inside their respective nations.

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/EE27Df01.html
This is not to suggest that it could NOT have been a member of ISI helping the Nigerian but the possibilty it was an Indian national is just as valid.
(I always try to base conclusions on "what is in it.." for a given Country. While the ISI has close links to the CIA would the ISI really want to stoke more fears against "Islamic terrorists" when the Government of Pakistan faces collapse and strategists are openly suggesting Pakistan be dismembered into smaller states?")
Remember that if the US attacks more Yemens, Somalias, Pakistans etc as part of their war on terro, Israel and India can use the same rationale to do the same.
Most in the West still don't understand the nature of muslim grievances some of which are recent and some of which go back to humiliations in previous centuries when the west colonialized muslim lands. The grievances run deep and are a sore spot just below the surface even of moderate muslims. Islam did not adjust well to modernism with its addiction to constant change, its tendency to secularism and its skepticism about traditional religious faith. Four hundred years ago Islamic fundamentalism began to get the upper hand over the more liberal sufi Islam, and that was the beginning of what has evolved into the crusade of al Qaeda to drive the west out of traditional Islamic territories and to revive the Caliphate which desolved when the Ottoman Empire fell apart around the time of WWI. As for security in airports in western cities, until decision makers and officials responsible for security really grasp the nature of the challenge, we will not see a serious and intelligent approach to security in airports and elsewhere. Now just as after 9/11 they are busy trying to cover their exposed posteriors.
Great info GWnorth,,, I read the article form your link.
I have been followed and harassed 24/7 for three years by the brown shirt right wing christian militant stazi here in Florida, and they still have not figured out that I am an Innocent American that has been setup to be a false flag for the purpose of helping these stazi down here create a climate of fear all around me and recruit new torture freaks to harass me.
Three years/ 24-7 , I cant even Imagine how much money they have spent.
We are a country of cowardly fools who believe anything any official tells us.
Not me, I fight for my freedoms one inch at a time, and I have to drive 800 miles a week through 3 county's for my job.
Think about that, 24/7 surviellance/harassment for three years, 2800 miles a month.
Thats extreme torture and stress, and trust me, they wanted me to feel there presence in hopes of driving me crazy.
this wasn't "failed security" - this occured exactly as it was planned to -
and did you see that Obama is now up in arms over Iran.....
just what we need - 2 more fronts yemen and iran - to this endless war insanity.....
and no one seems to want to say that Iran was security treaties with both Chian and Russia - so to want to start a war with Iran would quite possibley mean hositlities with bth russia nad china at the same time.....
these people like rahm and obama are insane vampires.....and no better than the bushies

I'd like to present an analogy between an increasingly paranoid US foreign policy (seeking cause to maintain wars on numerous fronts) and the film, "The Conversation" that featured Gene Hackman. In this classic film, a man who makes his living using surveillance to spy on private conversations comes to the conclusion that someone is doing the same to him. In a fit of madness he tears his home up in search of the alleged bug.
This reminds me of the USA mentality today. Although war serves some very powerful interests quite well, and given said interests have major stakes in media (and thus can mold minds to whatever distorted lies they elect to feed through its incessant stream), there is a price to be paid for creating a fear-based atmosphere that sees potential terror (and its plots) everywhere. This mindset can turn a nation on itself, and cause citizens to be designated as enemies on scant viable evidence.
Just as the phrase goes, "You are what you eat," there is a parallel to be found in what passes for food for thought, i.e. the diet fed the nation's collective psyche through a media compromised by corrupted values makes us what we "digest." Following the analogy to its conclusion, our own "house" will get torn up as the paranoia turns increasingly inward.
I'd also suggest Dr. Strangelove as a form of black humour that can point out in an acceptable fashion the global insanity of governments.
Acceptable because it has American actors -George C. Scott, Slim Pickens etc. in addition to the incomparable Peter Sellers and because it is so slapstick that subtleties can leak through where a piece of propaganda or articulate opinion might be resisted and rejected without thought.
History shows that any governmental system that creates increasing paranoia has within it the seeds of its own eventual destruction.

SANCTUARY: Sounds good to me! Because the 1960's & l970's were phases wherein establishment thinking was dissected and deconstructed through so many artistic venues, some of the best films of all times emerged during that short era. I think we can learn much from revisiting them. I am building a collection as I think it's conceivable some will become banned in due time.
Sanctuary, yes, Dr. Strangelove is a great 'teaching moment' --- as Obama likes to say.
Two related national security state errors from the film are pointed out and accepted by Gen. Buck Turgidson (George C. Scott) which humorously show that the system is designed to fail --- and thus to actually cause (or allow the opportunity for) war.
Gen. Turgidson first explains to President Muffley how emergency Attack Plan 'R' provides for a nuclear attack without presidential authority, and also goads the president and Congress for political pressure causing them to authorize the ill conceived plan.
Then after Muffley correctly concludes that Gen. Ripper (modeled on the real Gen. Curtis LeMay), who has used the laxity of plan 'R' to launch a nuclear attack, is a psychopath, Turgidson defends his brother officer saying, "well I wouldn't want to jump to conclusions before all the facts are in".
This seminal insight in Strangelove precisely matches the actual contrived scenarios, scams, 'Three-card-Monte' cons that the national security state is now pulling on Obama --- which are also identical to those pulled on JFK in both the Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missile Crisis.
This section from a WSWS article about the Christmas airline bomb scare and supposed intelligence failure incident by Patrick Martin rings just as true in today's contrived domino wars expanding to Yemen:
"The real failure to “connect the dots” is the refusal to draw any conclusions from the inaction of the US intelligence apparatus. Who made the decision not to act? Why did they make this decision? Was the intention that the would-be bomber succeed or fail? Was it a deliberate attempt to undermine the Obama administration? Was it a deliberate attempt to provide a pretext for further US military action in the Middle East?
In the world’s major intelligence agencies—the Russian FSB, the British MI-5, the Israeli Mossad, the French SGDN, China’s Second Intelligence Department—these are the questions that are being asked, along with a further question: Is the Obama administration in control of its own national security apparatus? These agencies undoubtedly dismiss the official US account of the abortive Christmas Day bombing for what it is: disinformation generated to delude American public opinion."

Is Irshad Manji a real Islamic . . . or just playing one on TV?
I grew up in NYC -- a popular midtown attraction across decades has been ...'three-card monte' --
in a game of three-card monte, Obama would be the 'shill' --
the guy who shares the pain of those who lose --
praises their courage when placing a bet --
outraged when the bets go south --
Obama shares all your concerns about the war --
about the economy -- about health care --
...but he's friends with the guy dealing the cards
that's exactly what Obama is - a SHILL -
his role is to pat you on the back for suffering and "i share your pain".....
to distract you some more from being raped...by him and his cohorts.
Bring America Back !!!!.......!!!Sure is a hailstorm and a bucket of worms over the undershorts bomber, just like the shoe-bomber.
****So the essence came down to the reality that not all
liquids which look innocent, really are innocent ! Or, the rather recent question of our times: boxers or briefs ???
Sounds like kafiltafish to me. More importantly where do they get the arms that they sell?
"Nine years, $1.3 trillion and two wars and many miniwars later, we have more terrorism than before."
Does anyone remember that Mr. O.B. Laden stated that he wishes to bankrupt the U.S.A, not militarily conquest?
Looks like he is succeeding.
One day a terrorist is going to pack about twenty pounds of plastic explosive up his/her colon with a non metal detonator attached to a lanyard fully within the rectum.
He/she will push out the end of the lanyard while seated, reach into his or her pants, grasp the end of the lanyard, yell allah achbar, and pull.
Bye, bye, plane, passengers, and your sense of security.
Does it strike anyone how courageous Ms Siddiqui is ?
