Michael Moore Responds to Joe Lieberman
(Last night, during his primetime speech from the podium at the Republican National Convention, Senator Joe Lieberman made the following statement: "... if John McCain is just another partisan Republican, then I'm Michael Moore's favorite Democrat. And I'm not. And I think you know that I'm not.")
Dear Joe:
John McCain IS just another partisan Republican -- so that must mean you ARE my favorite Democrat!
But how can you be my favorite Democrat when you are no longer a Democrat? This is very confusing. I was in the middle of taking out the garbage and, all of a sudden, there you were, trash-talking me in front of thousands of cheering (mostly) white people on TV.
What is it with you and your Republican friends always bringing me up? Can't you stop thinking about me? It's starting to sound like a fetish! Stop it! Four years ago at the last Republican Convention, John McCain, in his convention speech, also trashed me, calling me a "disingenuous filmmaker" because I called all of you out in "Fahrenheit 9/11." The crowd at Madison Square Garden went berserk. McCain didn't know I was sitting above him in the press box, and the crowd wouldn't stop screaming at me, so I flashed them the "Big L" loser sign and, well, nine of New York's finest had to help me get out of there alive.
With all the problems facing the world, why is valuable time being wasted reviewing a movie and attacking a filmmaker? And now you, Joe, tonight. Do you think you're energizing the "base" by attacking me? Better take a look at the scoreboard. While your side has spent years trying to make me the boogeyman, let's see how it's worked:
** 2006 Congressional elections: Republicans lose 30 seats in the House and 6 seats in the Senate;
** States That Have Lost a Republican Governor (and elected a Democrat) since 2002: Kansas, Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Arkansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Tennessee -- EACH ONE OF THEM A RED STATE!;
** Latest Gallup Poll: Obama hit 50% yesterday for the first time for either candidate, 8 points ahead of McCain!
Do you see the trend?
Putting me in your convention speeches, attacking me nonstop on talk radio and Fox News -- and thinking that this helps you -- shows just how out of touch you all are.
Two-thirds of the country agree with my position on the war, two-thirds of the country agree with my position on a single-payer universal health care system, two-thirds believe in some form of gun control -- name the documentary, pick the issue, and the American public agrees with Michael Moore. So get over me, will ya? You're only hurting yourself. And I've got to finish taking out the garbage.
"... if John McCain is just another partisan Republican, then I'm Michael Moore's favorite Democrat. And I'm not. And I think you know that I'm not." Now click your heels together and say, "There's no place like home on the Republican minority side of the aisle."

Show AllMike --
They may mention you - but we'll see nothing of "SICKO" on TV before
the elections---!!! Great work, Michael!
Everyone in America should see that movie ---
As for 9/1l . . . like the Gulf of Tonkin incident, like Iraq's WMD,
like so many other lies, it looks like simply more Bush/Cheney lies.
"According to all myth, the female - not the male -- gives life"
Michael,
don't listen to all these phucks.
You are one of the bravest, toughest, legendary REAL Americans it has ever been my pleasure to witness.
I'll admit: I hated your guts when your film F-911 came out. You see, I was a neo-con airline pilot, and the neo-con press told me you were evil, just like the "liberal press" and that everything you did was an affront to America. I gullibly believed these con-men and hated your guts. Imagine my chagrin when it turns out: that everything you said was true.
I was thunderstruck. I didn't know what to do.
So I have been actively engaging every neo-con every since asking if torture is what our America should stand for.
I've had a lot of quiet travel companions.
Mike, look,
Your article is not aggressive enough imho. You need to actively solicit CDers to join you.
I think you will find the result is:
We will.
Cheers,
Ben Frankin, aka pacplyer
Well Bless me, the heavy flyer has returned.

A few million more like you and we would be getting somewhere. Keep on walking, keep on talking.

I like Moore he tells like it is in his funny little way. If you don't like the truth that is your problem so go vote REP. I have looked into on my own after seeing his movies and reading his books that the facts he puts across pan out tp be the truth.
I have followed Lieberman's career since he was in the Connecticut Legislature when I was a kid. I even interviewed him for a school project when was 13. He was my mother's attorney for a short time. She always said "Watch out for him, he's a climber and not to be trusted."

can we all say "turncoat"?
today a republican in a dem's suit , yesterday a democrat in a repub suit, and regardless of what suit he will be wearing, closest to his skin.. the undergarments of the Zionist interests.
I have always found Mr. Moore to put everything in the Me, My or I catagory. He has produced some useful facts and films, but not my kind of person.
It's not about whether or not someone is "your kind of person", it's whether they are telling the truth, which Michael Moore does. Do you prefer Katie Couric, sweet, selfless and lying?
Lieberman is a monstrosity and clear evidence that a Gore presidency would've been a similar disaster.
And Michael Moore is another fool for trying to sell us the idea that Democrats are a legitimate choice for the left.
He writes "Two-thirds of the country agree with my position on the war (NOT OBAMA), two-thirds of the country agree with my position on a single-payer universal health care system (NOT OBAMA), two-thirds believe in some form of gun control (NOT OBAMA)."
So why for heavens sakes. Mr. Moore, are you voting for Obama?

Gore didn't need any help from Lieberman to lose the election, you're wrong.
He lost it all on his own. He didn't even capture his own home state.
If Gore had picked Nader as VP instead of Lieberman, he would've won. Though Nader would've never accepted to be part of such a corrupt SHAM known as Democrats.
PARIS (Reuters) - French scientists have devised a way of using particle accelerators to authenticate vintage wines,,,,I wonder if they can 'authenticate' political candidates.
Great - this is what that can use that huge multi-$billion super collider they built at CERN if that don't find the Higgs Boson, or inadvertently create a mini-black hole that could devour the earth, politicians included.
i agree that the RNC this week is mostly all white people.
i usually try and stick to positive posts, but it seems really creepy
i can't imagine McCain being elected, it would be really odd
Joe Lieberman lied in his speech how Obama never reached across party lines in congress. He did and when Joe Lieberman almost lost his election this last time, he called Obama for his support which he gave Lieberman. Nice guy huh? Guess with friends like that, you don't need enemies. I never could figure out why Gore picked him for his VP. I'm sure he was hoping McCain would pick him but the right wing conservatives got to McCain first. Poor Joe.
Remember: we learned in high school that in the Roman Empire "Bread and Circus" was the call to arms. This is true universally, in any political, social and economic context where the people scream for these two mainstays. Food and entertainment. Well, in America, one might think that the "circus" has morphed to mean T.V. and Hollywood. But no. We are entertained and blindsided by a delusional entertainment far more divisive and omnipresent: democracy!!!
Give it up liberals, "progressives", democrats.
mikel,
I think you are confusing (quite comically by thousands of years) "bread and circus" with bread and roses"
"Bread and circuses" was hardly a call to arms! It was the Roman's clever means of pacifying and stupidifying the masses.
"Bread and Roses!" was the demand of the striking Lawrence, Massachusetts textile workers in 1912 - for a living wage but also for working conditions that consider the human need for beauty and culture - something the average republican knows nothing about.
You ignorant right-wingers are a real hoot!
USAn:
I may have mistaken the "Bread and Circus" imagery. But have never mistakenly been accused of bing a right-winger. This post, by me, is the product of a growing older lefty and ardent liberal bashing Socialist. And you don't think "democracy" doesn't "pacify and stupidify the masses"...??????
Joe Lieberman, aka Bush’s best Democrat, had always been a mole in the Democratic Party, and I wrote him so in an e-mail a couple of years ago. He’s always been a dual national, Israel first, oblivious of the interests of the United States. Those who re-elected him should have their heads examined.
Mr Moore should have ignored that old turd, rather than responding and putting that crazy old coot under limelight.
Saila;
I think Leiberman would sell his soul to the Devil if it got him what he wanted for Isreal! Oh... my mistake! He's already sold his soul to the Devil by the name of, McCain!
Teri
moonpie,
Thank you for (also) pointing out how in 2004 Michael Moore and Bill Maher got down on their knees and begged Ralph Nader not to run. Had the Democrats in 2004 attacked Bush and Cheney with 1/20th the viciousness with which they attacked Ralph Nader, they would have won in a landslide.
You'll also recall, I'm sure, how the 2004 Democratic delegates were specifically instructed NOT to criticize George Bush -- the strategy being to go for the 1% to 2% of the electorate "in the middle" -- those 1% to 2% of the electorate who might go either way, Democratic or Republican.
It's that 1% to 2% of the electorate "in the midddle" that Democratic and Republican strategy is all about. That there are millions of votes to the *left* of the Republican-Democratic duopoly doesn't concern either of the two business parties, in that were they to go for *those* votes -- and in doing so win by a LANDSLIDE -- they would, at the same time, betray their corporate paymasters. And that's something they wouldn't, in their wildest dreams, dare do.
In short, the Democrats would rather lose yet another election than turn their back on Corporate America.
Can you imagine a more vulnerable presidency than the Bush presidency! Either now or back in 2004. A truly oppositional party would wipe the floor with either a Bush-Cheney or a McCain-Palin ticket.
In fact, a truly oppositional party would conduct their entire campaign from the headquarters of the International Criminal Court.
But, no, instead what's important, what's *crucially* important, to the Democratic-Republican duopoly is not which business party wins a particular election but rather "keeping the con going" -- keeping the propaganda machine humming along.
To do otherwise is unthinkable to either of the two business parties.
P.S. In a previous post in this thread I forgot to mention that a few years ago Michael Moore suugested that Oprah Winfrey run for president. He also recently suggested that Carolyn Kennedy run as Barack Obama's vice-president. ... Sadly, Michael Moore's filmmaking ideology is *way* to the left of his electoral ideology. One is instructive and greatly educational, the other is pathetically compromised.
They say Generals always refight the last war. The Democratic strategists keep refighting the 1992 campaign.
In 1992, there was a big undecided vote in the middle. Perot was claiming a lot of it, and there were a lot of people not really thrilled with either candidate or either party. In that environment, running to win the independent vote made sense.
In 2004 and in this year, there are virtually no undecideds. In 2004 I saw exit polls that showed that some 75% or more of the electorate had made up their minds about for whom to vote months before the election. This time, polls are showing incredibly small undecided numbers of just a couple percent.
In that sort of election, its silly to avoid attacking your opponent to look reasonable to the undecideds. There simply aren't any around. Instead, that's the sort of election where you have to go after your opponent hard and heavy, both to rally your base and to maybe carve a percent or two off of your opponents numbers.
The Republicans have figured this out. The Democrats are still refighting 1992. Dont ... stop .... thinking .... about ... yesterday!

I imagine Jerusalem Joe already has his AIPAC job lined up for when McCain loses, and the "Distinguished Gentleman from Tel Aviv" is unable to con enough Rebpublicans to reelect him.
The Dems shsould boot him out of cacaus..and move his office to the janitors closet of congress.
"The only means of strengthening one's intellect is to make up one's mind about nothing, to let the mind be a thoroughfare for all thoughts." - John Keats
The Republicans in Connecticut ARE who elected Lie-berman in the last election.
The Democrats chose Ned Lamont who was the Democratic candidate if you remember.
The Dems can't drop Joe just as yet. If they did they would lose their Senate majority - not that they have done very much with it anyway - due to Republican obstructionism, but Lie-berman is their one vote majority! They will dump him after this election though as they will pick up enough seats to have a real majority in the Senate. I will love seeing him stripped of all his committee assignments!
Joe Lieberman was still wearing short pants in the 8th grade and after P.E. lectured anyone near his locker about the evils of popsicles and heaped praise upon the Boys' Vice Principal, calling him "a paragon of virtue and keeper of order at George Armstrong Custer Junior High School." No one knew what paragon meant and didn't care because no one was listening to him anyway. Joe was student body president and the only male student who wore a bow tie, dark socks and actually put pennies in his penny loafers. We all know the type. Once a self-righteous jerk, always a self-righteous jerk.
I would like to hear your description of Condi Rice or Sarah Palin in High School.
(Just for fun.)
Joe
Michael Moore conveniently forgets that the candidate he supports, Barack Obama, campaigned for Joe Lieberman in 2006 -- in Lieberman's primary fight against *antiwar* candidate Ned Lamont.
Michael Moore is a great filmmaker but do you recall who he supported during the 2004 primaries -- General Wesley Clark. ... This is the same General Wesley Clark who, according to the Washington Post, at war planning meetings would "rise out of his seat and slap the table" to yell: "I've got to get the maximum violence out of this campaign - now!"
See the article entitled, "Clueless in America: When Mikey Met Wesley." The article starts out: "General Wesley Clark is a war criminal. Filmmaker Michael Moore is clueless." http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Jan04/MickeyZ0129.htm
In 2004, Michael, along with Bill Maher, got down on their knees on Maher's HBO show and in front of Ralph Nader *begged* him not to run. ... Real classy, Michael. ... So much for tolerating dissent. Not to mention trying to publicly humiliate someone you previously supported.
Michael, your support for Obama is support for "more of the same." Quoting from an article by Donna Volatile, "The Obama Construct" -- http://www.counterpunch.org/volatile08282008.html
"McCain is a war mongering bully who is in your face, Obama, on the other hand, is a smooth talker, whose own foreign policy positions aren't too far removed from McCain's and one has to wonder which is worse, or indeed if there really is any difference at all. (The idea of voting for the lesser of two evils, McCain being the more evil, according to Obama supporters, seems ludicrous given that both of these candidates will ultimately do the bidding of their masters and the master plan is the same for both parties. This should be quite apparent by now and if it isn't, well, by all means vote for Obama and reap your just rewards...Do you really think 'Obomba's' idea of war will be kinder and gentler than McCain's?...)
"Obama supporters will tell you “but he's honest and so sincere”, and “he's run a clean campaign” or “he's one of us” (that one always gets me) but they remain blinded to what is obvious to many on the radical left and many on the traditional conservative/libertarian right: Obama is a player and he is playing the game of the global elitists.
"Since he has all but secured his party's nomination, he's becoming more militaristic by the minute, in both tone and by his stance on several key foreign policy issues.
"Obama and his VP Choice, Senator Biden, however, are not the crux of the problem but rather the mainstream voters are the problem as they continue to enable the corrupt two party system by consistently supporting the candidates being foisted upon them by controllers who select them in the first place and who are reinforced by the mainstream media machine in the second. These are not choices, these are lack of choices and if voters continue to participate in this sham, then they truly get what they deserve!
"With Obama supporters, the phrase “blinded by the light” takes on a whole new meaning. What part don't you get?! (This is the party threatening to place demonstrators at the DNC in recently erected detention camps and the party whose House majority leader, Nancy Pelosi, ridicules the anti-war movement and the homeless: “If they were poor and they were sleeping on my sidewalk, they'd be arrested for loitering but because they have 'Impeach Bush' across their chest, it's the First Amendment.” Funny how both parties get upset over that whole free speech thing.)
"What is most stunning about delusional Obama supporters is, when confronted by the aforementioned facts about Obama, they counter with this inane idea that Obama is only “saying” these things, he doesn't really mean them, it's only to get elected and once he gets elected the true altruistic essence of the man will save us all from tyranny! (Can we say reality check?!)
"Their indefensible support of this double talker is beyond comprehension. ...
"If you want to help put a stop to the rigged election game, if you really want to make a difference and you want your voice of disapproval to be heard, then VOTE! Vote for ANYBODY but the two buffoons, who have been pre-selected for you by the global elitist machine. Send a message, loud and clear: We refuse your choices.
"Vote Nader, vote McKinney, vote Ron Paul, vote Bob Barr, write in a vote, do whatever but don't support the corrupt system. Commit to a protest vote. Vote your conscience, do not vote under the “lesser of two-evils” threat because then YOU are part of the problem, not part of the possible solution. (We've been on this trip too many times before. From “hope and help is on the way” Kerry to Obama's constant harping on “Change We Can Believe In”, you have been sold a bill of goods from first to last. For all of Obama's talk of change, his words and actions show quite clearly, he means more of the same.)
"For those die hard Obama supporters who refuse to see the hand writing on the wall. ... YOU are the problem. ... For those die-hard Hillary Clinton supporters, promising to vote for McCain because your war-monger wasn't the chosen one, seek psychiatric help immediately.
"And one more thing. ... Evil is evil, bad is bad, wrong is wrong regardless of sex, race, creed or color.
"And another thing. ... If you vote for Obama, you are neither liberal nor are you progressive, so let's get that straight. If you vote for Obama, you are a neoliberal, so get use to it.
"Stop making excuses, there are none and time is running out as an even larger war may be in the making.
"Get those blinders off!
"This is your wake up call!"
"If you vote for Obama, you are neither liberal nor are you progressive, so let's get that straight. If you vote for Obama, you are a neoliberal, so get use to it."
Get off your moral high horse. If you vote for Nader, McKinney, or anyone else with an absolute zero chance of winning, you're a LOOSER, and unequivocally contributing to a McCain victory. That makes you a de facto Republican, so get "use" to it!
"Stop making excuses, there are none and time is running out as an even larger war may be in the making.
"Get those blinders off!
"This is your wake up call!"
"If you vote for Nader, McKinney, or anyone else with an absolute zero chance of winning, you're a LOOSER,"
Not really the losers will get what they sow.
" and unequivocally contributing to a McCain victory."
Not at all, we will be the ones saying, told you so, in four years. If I was a betting man and I'm not, I'd be putting my money on McCain.

It's the same clueless idealists who believe Nader, Kucinich or McKinney can or could win who we have to thank for the past 8 years of Bush and company. Obama is the best choice we have. Stop your whining and vote for change, and then do something to make it happen. Activism is about more than just what you do on election day people!
wsws.org site sez: ""If you want to help put a stop to the rigged election game, if you really want to make a difference and you want your voice of disapproval to be heard, then VOTE!"

Umm ... the solution to rigged elections is to vote in them?
That's akin to a solution of scribbling your choice on a piece of paper, sticking it under your pillow at bedtime and letting the voting fairy deliver it. You'll get the same result as you will marching down to punch a Diebold button at your polling place.
Follow the benjamins.
My God.... Anything is better than Republicans! Vote Democrat!!
If Naderites would have voted for Gore (8) yrs ago WE Would NOT be at War!!!
Teri
Uh, not true. If the election had not been fixed, if Clinton had called for a bi-partisan investigation into the election when he was still president, if Gore had fought the supreme court of injustice's decision, then perhaps things would be very different.
I like Nader, but it is simply BS to claim that his running in 2000 put Bush in office.
Hello wsws! Lieberman has done 180 degree turn about particulary in the last few years or so. He has no loyalty, no foundation, and I've lost complete respect for him.
Teri
This article so long you must have gotten publisher rights to get it published.
Mike, your words mean very little.
You fell all over yourself supporting this weasel when he ran with Gore. You BEGGED Ralph Nader (on your hands and knees no less) not to run.
One can only imagine the murderous war that Lieberman would have made after 9-11. He was your VP. Yes, one bullet away from the presidency.
You sir, need to confine your energies to what you do best; Film.
Thinking and trying to suggest to others--given your party's failures in every sector and their complete and utter failed Congress)-- about what to do in November, is not your forte.
I don't blame you for trying, but your party sucks.
Vote Nader or McKinney.
"Vote Nader or McKinney."
I'll seriously consider it if you can give even a moderately cogent explanation of how voting for a candidate with absolutely no chance of winning the election will improve the situation and is not for all practical purposes a vote for Reaganist Fascism.
Ad hominem attacks and insults are not viable arguments, and nobody gives a crap about you're Quixotic sense of moral superiority; the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
Can you tell me the real reason why they have absolutely no chance of winning.' Here are two people whose ideals and platforms best support the American people and the majority of people won't support or vote for them. Just about the only response I get when I ask people why they won't vote or support them they say "Neither one of them has a chance of winning."
"Neither one of them has a chance of winning.” Why? Somebody please tell me. It makes absolutely no sense to me.
Nader or McKinney could win the election, if we could get the people to end this lesser of two evils mentality.
Go ahead and vote in your popularity contest, I'm going to give my vote to the person who best represents my views or I not going to vote at all.
Rickster
Eimeid; Thanks.
Great comments Mike. Thanks for the laughs too.
I'm not so sure I can see much difference from one Joe to the next here? If you get my drift, Democrats? If not, then think of your VP candidate some. He's another Israeli US GI JOE, is he not?
And speaking of L signs, does a double LL symbolize Liberal Loser? Then maybe that's what Michael Moore should have flashed since he is all of just that. That's what liberals are who are Lesser of Two Evils crackheads.
I will not vote for you Democrats any more than I would vote for a Republican. How many of you Democrats once voted for Lieberman simply because he was a Democrat?
Lieberman is just a scum sucking bottom feeder. As the pond dries up around him he becomes more and more desperate. He's done, and good riddance.
Lieberman, what a tool. Go home, retire to Israel.
Lieberman doesn't care what party he whores for as long as he gets paid.

He's just another Israeli Republican Senator.
Can you say treasonous conflict of interest?
Lieberman was never a Democrat.
Lieberman is a pro-Israeli mole and will hop the fence to whatever side leans toward Israel.
He's simply drooling over the fact that McCain wants to kill Iranians.
Basically, Lieberman is an Israeli not an American and his only purpose is to sway the US Government pro-Israel as much as possible.
He should be thrown in prison for treason.
I actually agree with that-------------lizard
Agreed. Lie_berman is the Senator from Israel bought and paid for with your tax dollars. He shoudl be shot as a traitor as he has violated his oath of office and doesn't represent the United States at all.
Fighting the forces of rather dim lighting wherever they may be found!!
If you wonder why progressives get treated so badly perhaps that hyperbole you just spouted is a clue. Lieberman has lost his mind to be certain, he is also a rabid fan of Israeli abuse of the palestinian people as well. But if you check his voting record over his first three terms in the Senate you would find him a progressive's dream on most issue....He was definitely a Democrat, but of course even the democrats arent democrats any longer....
Of course, once the democrats gain a larger majority in the Senate he will be drummed from the party and then your statement will be true.
We see things, not as they are, but as we are.
