Patriotic Millionaires Celebrate Delaware Minimum Wage Hike, Demand Delaware Senators Support $15

"If a $15 dollar minimum wage is good enough for workers in Delaware it’s good enough for workers in the rest of the country."

WASHINGTON

Today, Delaware Governor John Carney signed Senate Bill 15 into law, making Delaware the 9th state to raise their minimum wage to $15 dollars per hour by 2025. Earlier this Summer, the State Assembly and State Senate voted along party lines to raise the state's minimum wage. In response, Patriotic Millionaire Marc Baum issued the following statement:

"This is a huge win for the working people of Delaware. A $15 dollar minimum wage in Delaware will not only improve the lives of tens of thousands of workers, it will also give them the means to spend more money in their local economy, boosting the fortunes of every Delawarean.

While we are thrilled with this clear victory in Delaware, there are still millions of American workers in other states who need a similar raise. In the wake of this bill, Delaware's Democratic Senators Chris Coons, and Tom Harper must follow the lead of their state and support raising the minimum wage to $15 for every American. If a $15 dollar minimum wage is good enough for workers in Delaware, it's good enough for workers in the rest of the country. Senators Coons and Harper should follow the lead of their state and go all in on providing workers with the vital wage increases that they need."

The Patriotic Millionaires is a group of high-net worth Americans who share a profound concern about the destabilizing level of inequality in America. Our work centers on the two things that matter most in a capitalist democracy: power and money. Our goal is to ensure that the country's political economy is structured to meet the needs of regular Americans, rather than just millionaires. We focus on three "first" principles: a highly progressive tax system, a livable minimum wage, and equal political representation for all citizens.
