350.org on Senate Confirmation Vote for Pruitt

Today, following 30 hours of floor debate, the U.S. Senate voted 52-46 confirming Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt's nomination for EPA Administrator. The vote comes after an Oklahoma County Court ruled yesterday that Pruitt was in violation of the state's Open Records Act, and ordered his office to release thousands of emails.

WASHINGTON

Today, following 30 hours of floor debate, the U.S. Senate voted 52-46 confirming Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt's nomination for EPA Administrator. The vote comes after an Oklahoma County Court ruled yesterday that Pruitt was in violation of the state's Open Records Act, and ordered his office to release thousands of emails.

In response, 350.org Executive Director May Boeve issued the following statement:

"If you don't believe in climate science, you don't belong at the EPA. Scott Pruitt not only fails to meet the basic criteria for the job -- he's fought this agency at every turn, and Oklahomans paid the price with their health and safety. For years, he's been trying to hide his deep ties to Big Oil executives from the public. His confirmation is part of the Trump administration's bigger plan to dismantle the EPA and stonewall climate action, but we won't let them get away with it. The resistance to this administration's corruption and greed is growing, and we're coming together to fight the systems attempting to divide us and build the brighter world we know is possible."

350 is building a future that's just, prosperous, equitable and safe from the effects of the climate crisis. We're an international movement of ordinary people working to end the age of fossil fuels and build a world of community-led renewable energy for all.
