Senate Keystone XL Pipeline Bill Not in the National Interest

WASHINGTON

As the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee begins work on a bill to force congressional approval of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, Danielle Droitsch, Canada Project director at the Natural Resources Defense Council, issued the following statement:

"We already know more than enough to Just Say No to the proposed Canadian pipeline through America's heartland. And the president has already promised to veto any congressional bill forcing approval of the pipeline. The Keystone XL tar sands project is not in our national interest; it would significantly worsen climate change. Instead we should focus on what protects our communities, what will lower energy costs, and what kind of world we will leave to future generations. Turning to the dirtiest fuel on the planet is the wrong way to go."

NRDC works to safeguard the earth--its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends.
