Progressives Applaud Historic Nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to SCOTUS

WASHINGTON -

This morning, Stand Up America’s Executive Director Christina Harvey responded to news that President Biden intends to nominate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to fill Justice Stephen Breyer’s seat on the Supreme Court:

“President Biden has delivered on his promise to the American people to nominate a highly qualified Black woman to the Supreme Court. In addition to the historic nature of her nomination, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a brilliant legal mind and a staunch advocate for improving our justice system—as a former public defender, Judge Jackson knows exactly how rigged our courts really are.

“The Senate should swiftly confirm Judge Jackson to the bench, but it must not stop there. The Supreme Court remains deeply broken, and no single appointee will be able to change that if Congress does not act to add seats to the Court to rebalance this dangerously partisan right-wing body.

“To ensure the body itself does not impede Judge Jackson or any other member of the bench from upholding our rights and freedoms under the Constitution, from our freedom to vote to our right to control our own bodies, Congress must do its part and rebalance the Court’s conservative supermajority by passing the Judiciary Act and adding four seats to the bench.”
