Stand Up America: Senate Dems' Relief Plan Falls Short Without Election Assistance Funding

Group Demands Response Bill Include $4 Billion In Funding

WASHINGTON

After Senate Democrats unveiled a $500 billion, short-term coronavirus relief plan, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

"While Congress works to provide economic relief to the American people and small businesses, lawmakers cannot ignore the impact this pandemic will have on our democracy. While Trump is recklessly attacking vote-by-mail, Democrats in Congress have leverage right now, and they should use it to ensure that every voter can safely cast their ballot.

"The disastrous election in Wisconsin is an urgent reminder of what could happen nationwide if Congress doesn't act. As Speaker Pelosi herself has said, states need $4 billion right now to be able to implement vote-by-mail, expand online registration, and extend early voting."

In March, Stand Up America launched a national campaign demanding that Congress provide at least $2 billion election assistance funding for states to ensure that Americans can safely vote amid the pandemic.

Since the disastrous election in Wisconsin, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and others have advocated, it is now clear that $4 billion is required to prepare states for delayed primaries and the general election this fall.

Stand Up America is a progressive advocacy organization with over two million community members across the country. Focused on grassroots advocacy to strengthen our democracy and oppose Trump's corrupt agenda, Stand Up America has driven over 600,000 phone calls to Congress and mobilized tens of thousands of protestors across the country.
