France: Despicable Attack in Nice

PARIS - The truck attack on a Bastille Day celebration in Nice on July 14, 2016 is a despicable act of violence that cannot be justified.

At least 84 people were killed and many were wounded, including more than 50 children, according to official sources and a local hospital. No group has claimed responsibility.

Human Rights Watch expresses its sincere condolences to the relatives of the victims and wishes for a speedy recovery for the wounded.

There has been a series of attacks in France since the start of 2015, including multiple attacks in Paris in November 2015 that killed more than 130 people.

The Nice attack also follows a series of recent mass casualty attacks in other countries, including in Istanbul, Dhaka, and Baghdad. These attacks show contempt for humanity.

Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing. Thank you. -- Craig Brown, Co-founder
