France: Despicable Attack in Nice

PARIS

The truck attack on a Bastille Day celebration in Nice on July 14, 2016 is a despicable act of violence that cannot be justified.

At least 84 people were killed and many were wounded, including more than 50 children, according to official sources and a local hospital. No group has claimed responsibility.

Human Rights Watch expresses its sincere condolences to the relatives of the victims and wishes for a speedy recovery for the wounded.

There has been a series of attacks in France since the start of 2015, including multiple attacks in Paris in November 2015 that killed more than 130 people.

The Nice attack also follows a series of recent mass casualty attacks in other countries, including in Istanbul, Dhaka, and Baghdad. These attacks show contempt for humanity.
