Blackwater and the Khost Bombing: Is the CIA Deceiving Congress?
A leading member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence has told The Nation that she will launch an investigation into why two Blackwater contractors were among the dead in the December 30 suicide bombing at the CIA station at Forward Operating Base Chapman in Khost, Afghanistan. "The Intelligence Committees and the public were led to believe that the CIA was phasing out its contracts with Blackwater and now we find out that there is this ongoing presence," said Illinois Democrat Jan Schakowsky, chair of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, in an interview. "Is the CIA once again deceiving us about the relationship with Blackwater?"
But Schakowsky said the fact that two Blackwater personnel were in such close proximity to the December 30 suicide bomber--an alleged double agent, who was reportedly meeting with CIA agents including the agency's second-ranking officer in Afghanistan when he blew himself up--shows how "deeply enmeshed" Blackwater remains in sensitive CIA operations, including those CIA officials claim it no longer participates in, such as intelligence gathering and briefings with valuable agency assets. The two Blackwater men were reportedly in the room for the expected briefing by the double agent, Humam Khalil Muhammed Abu Mulal al-Balawi, who claimed to have recently met with Aal Qaeda leader Ayman al Zawahiri.
"It's just astonishing that given the track record of Blackwater, which is a repeat offender endangering our mission repeatedly, endangering the lives of our military and costing the lives of innocent civilians, that there would be any relationship," Schakowsky said. "That we would continue to contract with them or any of Blackwater's subsidiaries is completely unacceptable."
Under the Obama administration, Blackwater continues to work for the Department of Defense, the State Department and, as evidenced by the December 30 bombing, the CIA in Afghanistan. The company even maintains its own forward operating bases in Afghanistan, including one along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. "This is the closest base to the [Pakistani] border," Blackwater's owner Erik Prince recently bragged to Vanity Fair. "Who else has built a fob along the main infiltration route for the Taliban and the last known location for Osama bin Laden?"
Blackwater has been working for the CIA since at least April 2002. Prince recently claimed he was personally a CIA asset, conducting clandestine black operations around the globe. In June, Leon Panetta reportedly told Congress he had canceled the CIA assassination program involving Blackwater.
While the CIA said in December that Blackwater only continues its security and support role for the CIA, NBC News reported that the Blackwater men were not doing security at the time of the blast. The two Blackwater operatives killed in the bombing have been identified as Jeremy Wise, a 35-year old ex-Navy SEAL, and 46-year-old Dane Clark Paresi.

Show AllObama's carrying Bush's blackwater and BW=Z!
"Phasing out the Blackwater contract" could take years, even decades.
Yeah, Xe would probably sue to keep its contract.

The United States today:
"Silently the Corpse awaited the autopsy."
Certainly you jest! The CIA deceive? The question that should be asked: Have they ever told a truth?
no! how could that be? the cia lying? its like there's no santa! time for
therapy my life is ruined! i'm shocked shocked shocked! now that i've
stopped being facetious how about the cia. they are truly the definition
of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result!
this is why we are in such deep s--t in the world. these folks have had enough.
Yeah, no kidding! That was my first question.
I think it's appropriate if Ray McGovern's editorial about the CIA in Michael Moore's site is referred to:

Blackwater/Xe is a business...what if Pakistan/Yemen/Afganistan/Irzaq/Iran/AlQaeda offered them a better deal?

The true forerunner of the CIA was not the OSS, but the Keystone Kops.
Mercenary forces are indispensable to empires, and the US Hegemony is no exception.
In the aftermath of the declaration of the Global War on Terror, reprehensible organizations like Blackwater, Custer Battles, etc. were like extra arms surgically attached to the US Armed Forces. They're more like poison tentacles than arms, though.
The general impression is that the US government/military "needed" extra help, as retail establishments at one time hired scads of temp workers to conduct an inventory. Or a banquet hall hiring temporary waitstaff, etc. Once the Big Event winds down, the temps can be dismissed.
In truth, it's not so simple: as superb independent investigative reporters like Jeremy Scahill have been shouting from the rooftops during this century, the relationship is much more symbiotic, enduring, and fundamental than the average person-- perhaps even the average Elected Misrepresentative-- thinks.
In a triumph of disaster capitalism, our military and state security services have privatized as they've mushroomed; the bottom line definitely isn't Truth, Justice, and the American Way, assuming for discussion's sake that it ever was.
I believe that these sinister and secretive private state security organizations run the same kinds of clandestine operations and disinformation campaigns against governments-- both client governments and "host" governments, e.g. the Iraqi and Af-Pak-Ye governments-- as they purportedly do on terrorist organizations.
That's one reason I've remained skeptical and unimpressed when naïve and gullible persons cheer that "Obama ended the occupation in Iraq" or "Obama put an end to torture".
When governments dance with the mercenary devil-- especially now that mercenaries come in the form of professional international corporations-- the result is a cross-purposes quadrille in which the parties occasionally step on each other's cloven hooves, or jump to avoid being stepped on, but nevertheless remain locked in an embrace intended to allow them to remain upright.
The hapless Elected Misrepresentatives may get all a-flutter and squawk with indignation when confronted by scandalous or embarrassing events; they may demand to know What's Going on Here, or alternatively threaten to Get to the Bottom of This!
Senators Sheldon Whitehouse or Russ Feingold, like Jan Schakowsky, may briefly rear up on their hind legs and "vow" or "resolve" to get a firmer grip on the mercenary tiger's tail. But the tail's got a grip of its own.
Besides, it's a foregone conclusion that such would-be reformers will allocate such limited resources to their efforts, and be so aggressively spun in circles by their own government, from Team Obama to the Pentagon to the Truman Building (State) to Langley, that they'll emerge knowing less than when they started.
It's possible that persons like Erik Prince will one day get their comeuppance, but even that's a long shot. At best, he's a potential scapegoat; as lovely as it would be to see Prince "frog-marched" in an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs, it would amount to his "taking one for the team"-- like in "Goodfellas", when circumstances demand that a "made man" take a rap for the family or organization's benefit.
I can't say whether CIA Director Panetta is True Believer or a careerist dupe, but I'm confident that WHOEVER is really running the CIA would answer the question, "Blackwater and the Khost Bombing: Is the CIA Deceiving Congress?" by replying, "If we're not, we're not doing our job."

Very well put obt
Year Obd't Servant;
I wonder if the CIA (Chaos in Aggression) is running with several 'Aunited' Drivers. Like a Chinese New Year Dragon smashing through the ether;
the Bildenberg Club pointing toward the Castle, the Drug cartels pointing to the Cities and the Corporate CEO's pointing toward their Bonuses;
yet each one really unaware of the other. Which end of the Dragon is the head and which end is the tail depends on who is talking.
Or as CaptJim calls the CIA - Cruel Insane Asses; where all ends shit on another.
Good on Jan Schakowski. But the only meaningful reform is campaign reform to get money and revolving doors out of politics.
"The two Blackwater men were reportedly in the room for the expected briefing by the double agent, Humam Khalil Muhammad Abu Mulal al-Balawi, who claimed to have recently met with Al Qaeda leader Ayman Zawahiri."
Would the deputy Chief of your local police department set up a meeting at his headquarters, with a dozen of his top vice squad operatives simultaneously present, to interview a snitch-informant who claimed to have met recently with the head of the town's most notorious, dangerous drug dealing gang?
Why would there have been a couple of private detectives also present for any such meeting?

Who is in charge here? Not congress, and not the president. Is it organized crime (gunrunners, etc.)? Nobody seems ever to do anything about the CIA and the "contractors" who kill and maim and lie. They are getting lots of money for themselves and those who tell them what to do. Now, back to my original question: Who is in charge here?
Does anyone really, seriously believe that Blackwater and the CIA are separate entities? My guess is that the CIA invented Blackwater, just like they did the Mujihadin (Al Ciada) and a number of other terrorist groups over the last half century. They've created quite a few front corporations as well as more than a few banks. My guess is that they've even created a church or two. This is like a perfect combination. A corporation, and a Christian terrorist army all rolled into one - with more immunity from the law than the CIA , if that were possible. If they didn't create it I'm guessing they wish they had, and would have had they thought of it.
The Church of Blackwater, headed by the Reverend Erik Prince...hmmm...it does have a ring to it.
How are Blackwater's operations paid for? How are their bases supplied? Is this money in the Pentagon budget, or some other place in the Federal budget, or just completely off-budget slush funds? Do they run their own supply operations or are do they just order from the Pentagon?
Think about this - the U.S. military that spends as much as the rest of the world's militaries combined still ISN'T BIG ENOUGH! They need hundreds of thousands of mercenaries as well. It shows you how out of control and unsustainable this empire is.

I heard the Pentagon has a giant piggy bank...of course, the money the put in there still comes from the back of American taxpayers but, hey, who's counting here anyway?

I suggest poeple watch this Video....American Idiot we are ok with it all.
Liars lying to liars about liars who lie to us about lying.
That about sums it up!
the CIA , NSA and sundry other institutions of the US Surveillance Police State can't possibly be anything other than fundamentally about lying, obfuscation, secretiveness, underhandedness ...it's the nature and essence of their very existence.
it's just a matter of creating something - the security system - that becomes a Frankensteinian Monster with a life of its own and a law unto itself and a shadow government.
it doesn't matter if it has people that are "law abiding" or "honest" or "serious professionals".
as some wise person said about governance:
when secret things keep on and on..and in the case of the CIA and surveillance, it just increases over time -
"everything secret degenerates".
obviously - in any complex organization such as a nation -- the doings of a government or institutions or parts of a society can not possibly be KNOWN by all as a matter of the wealth of information flying around. and not necessarily out of intentional secretiveness.
but the CIA and such institutions are INHERENTLY secretive and from THERE BECOME degenerate - to include LYING to those it supposedly serves for no better and more banal a reason than to promote and protect its OWN power regardless of its usefulness ...it begins to exist for its own sake...to the point that -- far more than any dangers it supposedly protects against, IT becomes the real and primary danger to those it supposedly "protects".
it is like nurturing a pet crocodile and leaving it in the backyard with a swimming pool to guard one's baby..while one goes shopping...to protect the baby from dogs outside the fence.
the question :"DID THE CIA LIE TO CONGRESS?"
Is the SUN HOT? does rain fall? do we breathe air?
Took the words right out of my mouth. Bravo.
Gary
The American people never do learn, Do they?
Learning is sooooo unmanly. And folks who are "right with God" are "saved" form having to learn anything.
Welcome to America.
Just wait until Xe (Black Water) takes over security from the NSA and FBI. Once the power elite are able to pull that off then we are all screwed! The fact is that you only have rights under our constitution when you are dealing with the government bureaucracy. If you are dealing with a private security firm you have no constitutional protections, you are at their mercy! Now don't you feel alot safer?
We now return you to your CNN/Fox News programming already in progress.
"Just wait until Xe (Black Water) takes over security from the NSA and FBI."
We're closer to that than anybody realizes. All it would take is a 'national' security incident like, say, another 9/11, Katrina, etc. and they'll be policing the streets, dragging people out of their houses by the hair and shooting them in front of the nearest wall. Iraqis can attest to that.
Obama was paid for by the CIA/Wall Street Gang, and Poppy, to continue what Junior Bush started,- beginning with 9/11. The CIA, Xe, are the terrorist who deliberately invaded a foreign country to murder. Our troops are the scrape goats.
Who's in charge?
it's like our obedient servant's analogy to the tail/head dragon except that it seems a manyheaded/manytailed dragon eating and shitting on itself simultaneously. and absolutely no one is in charge. the man behind the screen is us and we can't find and shut off the automatic pilot button.
The CIA deceiving Congress? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Please say it ain't so. Not the CIA, those patriotic, kind, loving, peace-spreading folks who selflessly help people all over the world with their internal affairs and, in particular, with deposing and/or picking their governments, whether they like it or not. And if you don't believe me, ask the Iranians or the Hondurans or the Chileans. They can tell ya a story or two or three for that matter.
