Liberals Voicing Anger, Outrage Over President's Handling of Bailouts
Obamanomics Sparks Ire Across the Aisle
WASHINGTON - President Obama is facing growing liberal anger over his handling of the economy, with prominent voices on the left voicing concerns that taxpayer-funded bailouts are enriching corporate America while doing little to right the nation's economic ship.
The revelation over the weekend of massive bonuses being awarded to employees of AIG -- despite repeated federal bailouts engineered by the Obama and Bush administration -- is igniting fresh outrage among liberal lawmakers and bloggers.
Several prominent Democrats are pointing out that Obama aides were more than willing to press auto workers to renegotiate contracts as a condition of bailouts for car companies -- but are now citing the sanctity of contracts in AIG bonuses, saying they can't be canceled.
"People have no confidence in what's happening right now," Jane Hamsher, the founder of the liberal blog FireDogLake, said Monday on ABC NewsNOW's "Politics Live."
"People on the right and the left are looking at all this money being shoveled to banks [by] friends of Timothy Geithner and Larry Summers ... and they're not seeing any accountability," she added. "They don't know where the money's going, they don't know how much is gone, and it's all nontransparent and extremely suspicious."
Hamsher is organizing an online petition drive to press lawmakers to block further bank bailout funds. The Obama administration has signaled that it anticipates needing more funds to stabilize the nation's banking system.
A group of nearly 80 House Democrats took the unusual step of publicly sending a letter to Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner on Monday, calling on him to block AIG's bonus payments.
"These kinds of abuses of the public trust will only threaten any future efforts by President Obama's Administration to intervene in the financial markets," they wrote.
Allowing the payments to go through would leave the president in a difficult political spot.
"He's walking down a very, very dangerous path right now," liberal activist and author David Sirota told ABCNews.com. "It betrays the exact problem that people are angry at -- that there's one set of rules for Wall Street and Washington and another set of rules for everybody else."
"It's becoming real, what the difference is between Obama's rhetoric about power coming from outside of Washington, and the reality of an administration filled with Washington and Wall Street insiders," Sirota said.
Obama Lashes Out at AIG
The president sought to acknowledge the anger over AIG by voicing outrage of his own. Obama promised today to "pursue every single legal avenue to block these bonuses.
"Under these circumstances, it's hard to understand how derivative traders at AIG warranted any bonuses, much less $165 million in extra pay. Now, how do they justify this outrage to the taxpayers who are keeping the company afloat?" Obama said.
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has been working since last week to scale back or cancel the bonuses. But the fact that he failed to stop AIG from proceeding with the bonuses left some prominent Democrats frustrated.
Robert Reich, who was former President Clinton's labor secretary, called it a "scandal" that "Americans still have so little say over what is happening with our money."
"When our very own secretary of the Treasury cannot make stick his decision that AIG's bonuses should not be paid, only one conclusion can be drawn: AIG is accountable to no one. Our democracy is seriously broken," Reich wrote in a Huffington Post op-ed.
Democratic lawmakers joined Republicans in expressing outrage. They called on the president to do more to protect taxpayer dollars.
"The American people are being played for fools by AIG," Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said today on ABC's "Good Morning America."
Polls suggest that the public continues to have faith in Obama's capacity to manage the economy. A CNN poll released today found 59 percent of respondents approve of the president's handling of the economy.
But a Pew Research Center poll also released today showed Obama's job approval rating slipping a bit, down to 59 percent from 64 percent a month ago. The dominant issue on the public's mind remains the economy.
The new concerns reflect the fact that, with every passing day, ownership of the crisis is being shifted more and more to the president.
The president and his top advisers continue to point out that the economic mess began on President Bush's watch. But they won't be able to point the finger backward indefinitely, said Kevin Madden, a Republican political consultant.
"Outrage will soon be an overvalued commodity for President Obama," Madden said. "In order to fix the economy he is going to have to execute some tough decisions that aren't popular with a fatigued and anxious public. It's a big test."
Hamsher, of FireDogLake, said she can't imagine Congress granting more money for Obama administration strategies to shore up the financial system until the president proves that he and his team can be trusted.
"There is no public confidence in the process, and until you can restore that confidence, I think you're just lighting money on fire," she said. "I don't think there's any question right now that until they restore some confidence in the system, no one's going to give them that money, and I don't think that's a Democratic or a Republican consideration. I think that everybody feels that way this morning."
Sirota said that the administration's current course could permanently harm his credibility.
"This idea that he is committed to pushing more bailouts -- if he steps into that breach, he is opening himself and the administration up to suddenly becoming part of the problem, not part of the solution," he said.

As I indicated in another thread, we're watching the Ivy league Boys' Club at work.
Obama can do one thing to improve matters immediately: replace Geithner with Reich.
q
Why are these people suddenly shocked over a $165 million dollar leak ???
Why didn't they complain when Obama rushed to DC to zealously champion the trillion dollar unconditional financial industry bailout last September when 90% of every group polled was against it ???
Obama's hiring financial industry insiders, his failing to fire Bernanke by 2/1/09, and his failure to re-regulate the financial sector is turning what should have been a 3 year recession into a 30 year depression. With so many mis-steps in the first two months, it should be no wonder that he is being blamed.
I think it's called "limited hangout." The corporate media that is as complicit as the congress in creating this disaster has decided to direct outrage onto this one target in order to distract the public from the larger one. For example, why be outraged at AIG but not Goldman Sachs? GS got $12.9 billion of AIG's bail as well as $11.4B direct. Now even though CEO Blankenfein may be foregoing his bonus, the firm is still doling out about $2.5 billion according to Bloomberg. But no one is outraged over that.
It's a lot like Abu Ghraib, when the goobermint realized it had itself a sit-iation. They plastered Lynndie England all over teevee, thereby allowing the public to vent their anger on poor white trash instead of the military, the government and the people who brought us that war.
On the other hand, this fiasco has galvanized the people against corporate welfare, to support progressive reforms and overcome their ingrained fear of a little socialism for the people instead of for oligarchs. A brilliant move if it was intended. Kind of like letting the Freeman fiasco put the spotlight on the Israel Lobby.
According to Pew, 59% of Americans still having faith in "Obama's handling of the economy". This can only be described as a "feel good" reaction that ignores the facts.
Obama campaigned on change, proceeded to handout trillions in unconditional corporate welfare, hired insiders, and failed to fire the Federal Reserve Chairman.
Economic freefall continues to accelerate.
Not exactly a formula for change.
The crisis did not begin w/W. Bush but rather had its origins in the Reagan/Thatcher/Pinochet period of the early 80s. For good info see an interview w/Naomi Klein discussing her book "SHOCK DOCTRINE: THE RISE OF DISASTER CAPITALISM." You can view the interveiw at "fora.tv.com/naomiklein"
Also, I forgot to mention that Naomi Klein has her own website that you can visit at "shockdoctrine.com" -- lots of good info available (gov. declassified documents interviews, blogs, videos, etc.).
About the Israeli lobby; what good did exposing the lobby do? They're still there, and it's still business as usual. The Israeli's have sympathetic members throughout our government. As for the insulting behavior of the corporate welfare recipients; I don't side with Republicans often, but Senator Grassley of Iowa who said the executives of the failed corporations should do as the Japanese and resign or fall on their swords and commit suicide was going in the right direction. No one advocates suicide, but if there was any honor in the corporate camp at all, perhaps an apology (no one has even apologized!!!!!!)for the abysmally bad job of investing customers money, and now taxpayers money. The fact that the Obama Administration says they can't violate the corporate contracts, and the corporations now looking for loopholes so that in the future the executives won't miss any future monies speaks volumes. Louis XIV would blush! Attention has been called to this situation, but if anyone gets away with the money, WTF difference does it make? STOP PAYMENT!!!!!! Withdraw future offers. Let the motherfuckers FAIL...they already have in the jobs, they should be fired. Let them stand in line with several hundred for a minimum wage job!! Our leaders are aiding and abetting in shoving the corporate dick up our collective asses. IT HAS TO STOP before all our heads explode!!! This is insanity, or the greatest crime committed on the WORLD in all of history.
Stephen Colbert had the right idea on last night's program: bring out the pitchforks!
How about the machetes instead?
"About the Israeli lobby; what good did exposing the lobby do?"
Neo-con pols will have a tough go come election time. And any further interference by the lobby will be met by an administration backed by public outrage.
And further, the general public, infotainment sources, etc, are truthfully much more interested in the economy (their own money) than anything related to Israel, however important the latter.
If the people at AIG receiving the bonuses are 'outed', they will be front page fodder and that could have a strong effect. Hopefully, anyway.
"Cuomo indicated that he will issue subpoenas at 4 p.m. Monday if he did not receive a list of employees, including information about the nature of their work and their employment contracts." (CTA ca news)
Super Mario go, go, go.
And we all know how politicians respond to public outrage, YAWN.
It's about time Obama took a long look at who put him into office. The public is much more aware of the Israeli Lobby and the influence of Zionism. It wants help from the government, not bail outs of the morons who put us in this situation in the first place. I realize that Obama has a fine line to negotiate between the public and powerful special interest groups. But if he can't do the job he promised, it's time he admitted it. And, by the way, it's not liberals who got him the job, but ordinary people who got sick and tired of the neo-con shit being shoveled out for eight years by offices stealers.
They may be called liberal here, but anywhere else on the planet they are regarded as ordinary middle-of-the-roaders. 'Power to the people' (and since when has that been any more than a cry for giving the rule of government to its citizens, as promised in the constitution).
You say : It's about time Obama took a long look at who put him into office.
A record breaking, expensive campaign paid for in a great part by the very same banks and insurance companies, i.e. Wall Street, and lots of dumb ass voters who are gullible enough to accept the "lesser evil", don't give a toss about his voting record, and accept meaningless grandstand platitudes.
And yes, I'm sure he has taken a long look, and realised that with these stiffs that make up the electorate you can get away with murder and that is what he is doing. - Troops back form Iraq, someday – More Troops to Afghanistan – Torture and responsibility – Eavesdropping – Habeas Corpus the Constitution - Hands off Israel and their War Crimes with American complicity....etc.. etc..
So now you get it: Lesser Evil means you still get screwed. But that is what the system is there to do. They are not going to give anybody their power. You have to organize and take it!
Why is everyone screaming at Obama about AIG. The AIG debacle began under Bush/Paulson. Just see who Paulson worked for and was big recipient of AIG payments.
Because any negatives on Obama get amplified)))))))))). (Synthetic indignation) Devil if he does...devil if he does not...........
Dante
Good afternoon sir. So far President Obama hasn't done one single positive thing. There hass been one negative after the other.
And after seeing his suggestion that Veterans pay for some of their treatment this morning, taxing health care, providing health care to non citizens, etc,I question his wisdom or have to say he is getting the worst advice in the world.
This is the kernel of progressive unrest,Thomas, and most perceptive of you for bringing it up. From the first day he occupied the White House the same old folks have been placed in the same old positions. The same war mentality is in place that we have seen forever, the same insulated financial community with the same aristocratic attitude and overweaning greed is still making the decisions.
The time to have dealt with the bonusses at AIG was prior to giving out the very first dollar, though I would remind all that the entire bonus package amounts to one tenth of one percent of the total granted to AIG from TARP. The escalation in Afghanistan and Pakistan is a rather enormous thorn in the progressives side as well, and the use of remote control killing machines as enumerated elsewhere on this site is personally sickening to me. Isnt war dehumanizing enough?
Obama has not reached out to moderates or progressives excepting in speeches, empty words that are followed by no actions. How long, I wonder, will it take for those who continue to support this administration to notice the lack of progressive action? If Obama does not address and fix the real and dire distortions of the way things are done in this democratic republic then the next admionistration is very liable to make this much, much worse.
Good afternoon my friend.
I am close to telling you and a number of others here they were right about this guy. I'm still willing to give him a bit more time, but there best be some focused action instead of the scattergun approach I've seen so far.
"The time to have dealt with the bonusses at AIG was prior to giving out the very first dollar"
Agreed. By the by, I wouldn't care if it was 1,000 of one per cent, greed like this is disgraceful, disgusting and un-American. They shame our country. They are stealing from our citizens.......I'll give em contracts...gggrrrr#@(*&$%^#^%
I responded to someone pointing out that Geitner was involved in every bailout including the first one with Paulson and he worked with Paulson on AIG's first dip. Where's the difference. As to Barney Frank posturing "shame on them" he (along with Dodd) and this administration are responsible for giving out this money with no strings attached.
Talking is NOT walking....and someone needs to tell his advisors the campaign is over. Better start walking the walk.
Time to register GREEN....OK I know that they will not win a national office this next election, as I also know that there seems no other peaceful way to get ones message through to those Damn Democrats.
If anyone is going to note that a vote for the Greens is a vote for the GOP, please dont, I have a weak stomach and you arent paying close enough attention.
Sir....I believe before this year is out the Democrats are going to be delivered of a message so clear and so loud, I don't think even their thick craniums can fail to absorb it.
I also believe President Obama best be listening to the Ameerican citizen and not his erstwhile advisors.
Two ladies spent the night with us last week, dear, dear friends both Obama Democrats, both worked hard for Obama, both National delegates, both went to the inaugaration. Neither one are happy with what he is doing. Not at all. They are upset with his signing of the earmark bills, not paying attention to the economy and jobs....both feel the Wednesday partties and the gadding about are not condusive to good governance. To forestall any silliness, they are both black.
Hey Thomas)))...always good to see you here.
I am sticking with this President (warts and all). As I stated in previous posts..I expected a pragmatic centrist and that is what I got. It is going to be a rocky ride but I believe that this guy will do what I expect him to do, and that is to achieve the condition of stability so needed in the United States today.... My expectations have always been tempered by the political realities that exist in the United States.
I don't like everything he is doing but I do understand the political realities facing this President. It's that darn old skillful use of blunt tools again.
But the People of the United States can always throw out the democratic congress in 2010, and in 2012 throw out the democratic President. Perhaps another round of total Republican rule is needed for those with very short memories.
My wife I will be back home in Georgia for good in two months time so we will be in the middle of the fray instead of being distant observers.
Your Take Care Thomas,
Thom Gilbert
Dante
Come on down!
So far he has not made a move to stabalize anything. If anything they are adding to the instability. He has a short time frame to accomplish something, he'd better start soon.
I fear that it won't take short memories, much more of Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, et al and I may vote Republican myself.....Uuuggggg. They are pathetic.
Without a change and soon, these idiots are resurrecting the Republican party all by themselves and handing the Senate or possibly both back in 2010.
The anger is immense and growing.
I still hope you are correct, but he has shown nothing so far. Pelosi is in charge it appears.
We are going home Thomas and you know, it is my home. (After all the house is finally paid for..lol) Quebec is where I was born and educated but the United States made me (for better or worse) what I am. The old immigrant story..........it has been told many times. (I will note here that I was recruited at university by a large US engineering firm...you guys came looking for me... I didn't apply lol But the deal was just too good for a young engineer to pass up....They gave me a beautiful place to live, a beautiful and an incredibly intelligent wife (a red neck academic from Alabama (lol) and two amazing kids....(lol) Great contract Thomas!!...Worked out just fine..after all these years..)
Unfortunately I don't have the time to involve myself in composing long political discourses employing the precise, and at times, pretentious language of academia required to support that which I would consider constitutes the success or failures (actual or perceived) of this current administration. The best I can do at this time is to continue to read many of the articles and the comments to the articles posted here at CD. Of course every now and then I will continue to expose myself to the rock throwers. (The enraged mob)
I am still a very patient optimist Thomas.
Thom Gilbert
P.S. Thomas I would suggest you follow Rick's advice and consider voting green as opposed to Republican. Much easier on the conscience...lol (Not to mention the stomach)
"So far President Obama hasn't done one single positive thing"
He hasn't done even one single thing that is positive? Not even one little itsy, bitsy, tiny, lonely little single thing? Really? Not even "one"? Just one?
Jesus, which turnip truck did you fall off of there Tom? I hear Limbaugh is looking for some new writers, in case you're looking to share your hate with a larger audience.
Nevermind.
Its amazing what crawls from beneath a rock when you turn it over. Sad really, when little minds reveal themselves.
My, what an intelligent retort that was, Sir Thomas Moore.
Sir...
I grovel at your feet. And I must confess, in all candor dear and honorable sir, what a rare and pleasant opportunity it is for me to be engaged in conversation with a fine gentleman such as yourself. Hat's off to you Sir!!! Hear, hear!!
And, as I may be so bold as to submit a further observation, forgive me kind Sir. I am compelled to share with you this most personal confession; I am indeed and equally both blessed and humbled, as if visiting the Elysian Fields, sipping ambrosia, or gazing upon the shine of your boots (is it or is it not true sir), to witness this lovely use of both the tongue and the brain, working as gentlemen allied together in the most noble of us here (aye, that would be you sir), which serve to elevate polite discourse and intelligent rhetoric to a notably higher standard. A beacon Dear Sir, a lighthouse you are. You are a gentleman and a scholar Sir Thomas Moore.
Not to mention a total wanker.
Did you have anything of a political nature to add to this thread? Anything at all?
Ah, pardon monsieur Rick, the shine from Sir Thomas Moore's riding boots temporarily disoriented me, so dark and dismal it has been all these years under that rock.
But yes, indeed I do, and thank you very much for asking.
You are rapidly regressing.
nah, you guys are just taking yourselves way too seriously, that's all.
this thread sounds like the villagers in the film Frankenstein.
...turn Obama into the monster while all the naysayers save humanity on a blog.
Obama is not the Messiah, but his IS, in fact, doing many good things. And at least he is 'doing', whether you agree with him or not, and much of what he is doing is in the direction of positive change. The statements being made here in 'absolute' terms are foolish and deserve to be made fun of.
Care to share your list of all the positive things the Obama admin has already done?
Beyond timelines of things that will happen in the future, like closing Gitmo & ending troop presence in Iraq?
Beyond the stimulus and budget, which are things that would have happened anyway...?
What is your personal list of good tangible things that Obama has done...?
This is not to say that he hasn't... I am just curious about your own perspective...
I already asked him once. But it is more fun ,I guess, to insult and obfuscate, to generalize and belittle, than to demonstrate you aint got nothing!
I would advise spuds (McKensie?)to look a bit closer at many of th eposts which do indeed give Obama credit for the things he postulates he will do. I for one am still waiting for the words to translate into actions.
Amazing the response you get if you criticize a member of this gang.
Listen guys, the deal is this, Sir Thomas Moore was making intensely negative remarks and also speaking in the absolute - saying Obama hasn't done a single positive thing. That is just unacceptable for people who present themselves as erudite in the way he does. So I jumped on him and called him on it, in a fashion that was silly, yes, but I'm not a member of his cigar club. The reason I did it was, in part, because his comments about Obama are so negative. And because he says things like the critics at his house were "black" so as to forestall 'incoming's. That in itself is a damn racist comment and if you don't think so ask around!
And because he is going around calling everyone sir this and that and acting like he is some kind of English 'gentleman'. I am not acting like that, therefore, coming from under whatever "rock" I crawl, I don't need to pretend. The true mark of a 'gentleman' is if he can remain a gentleman even when criticized. Instead, Master Moore chose to try and demonstrate his superiority by implying that I was some creepy bug who was 'sad' ergo; pathetic, unintelligent, whatever. Thus he showed that he is not, in fact, the gentleman he pretends to be. I played it further, never pretending to be a 'gentleman' in the first place.
In fact, Obama has begun reversing things in different areas, whether it is shifts that will LEAD EVENTUALLY to positive changes in forms of energy, torture, insurance, drugs, environment, education, etc. - all things that were being attacked in previous administrations. These are shifts that are real and they will take some damn time to notice. And that is the other reason I jumped into this highly negative thread, because people here are acting silly.
It's like a coach who takes over the team in the league with the worst record, full of problems, and immediately starts getting bitched at because he hasn't changed everything and started winning in the first month. These things take years guys, and that's in sports!
But the direction is shifting, at least some. Not everything, but it is shifting. People are saying they are waiting to see the changes, in a skeptical voice, as if anyone can reasonably expect to 'see' changes in less than a year.
In truth, I am quite radical in my philosophies and politics, but so what, I am also a realist and the hard realities of his job are that it is nearly an impossible one.
For Christ's sake, it takes a month just to unpack.
I have been reading CDs for years and over the past year, I have noticed the absence of many former posters who carried on reasonable and intelligent, thought provoking and varied discussions. For the past year, it has become much more of a hate club, and an Obama hate club at that. That's what Rush Limbaugh offers.
Get a grip guys. Smoke a joint.
And, by the way, to the poster after this, psychedelics (derived from Greek to make the psyche visible) have been used by native cultures around the world for thousands of years, effectively and harmlessly, to accomplish a great many things, including expanding their awareness and vision to comprehend the greater mysteries and truths of the universe. The "kool-aid" slander just shows how stupid you are, not to mention entirely unoriginal at this point in time, also the kind of thing that someone like Limbaugh would say.
Anyway, give Obama a chance and stop being so negative. Negativity begets negativity, a simple law of nature.
I believe the reference to 'kool aid' refers , not to psychedelics, but to the poison ala Jim Jones.
Smoke all the dope you like, that is your business, but insulting Mr. More, and on personal inferences, is not so much your business as it is deceptive and a back door slam on his politics.
You refer to the "actions" of our President in a positive fashion, I see a lot of words and very little action. Certainly the freeing up of more stem cell lines is a positive, but what the heck is he doing about the basic and fundamental inequities and unfairness of our political system? Where are the progressives in his cabinet? Where are the progressive ideas and ideals in his policies?
Calling criticisms of this administration a "hate club", and especially after you just personally attacked one who has withheld much criticism for a long time, sounds more than a bit insincere. It is also nothing more or less than a distraction. Again I ask, where is the beef? I would appreciate a list of actions (not words or platitudes) by Obama that you could point to as positive accomplishments.
Geesh, you guys don't quit, ok Red, one last post.
1. In terms of the "kool aid" (how ridiculous is this getting?), sorry, but the 'what kind of kool aid is someone drinking?' has become an overused and common phrase to imply that what someone said or did is loopy, nutty, crazy, not normal (who the f... wants to be normal anyway, what's that?) drug induced, etc, and is used all over the place with boring frequency. From a perspective of simple logic, if a person drank Jim Jones' kool aid, they would be dead, not saying or doing anything - including blogging. So no, sorry, the reference was to psychedelics. If it was to Jim Jones it is even MORE stupid.
2. "Smoke all the dope you like..." is another what kind of kool aid remark and just as stupid. In terms of Senor M., I made it clear why I jumped on him and it was he, in his response, that sought to insult me, not responding in any way to what I said - his speaking in absolutes - which is, as I said already, unacceptable for one who poses as mindful. Maybe he is mindful, to give him credit, but his response was arrogant. He's probably a nice guy and like I said, you all are like a mob and way too serious.
3. Yes, I do refer to the President's actions in a positive fashion, because I believe that he is a vast improvement over his predecessor and, as I made very clear, I believe you have to give it time. If it were up to me, I would dismantle the whole damn system and send everyone off to contemplate their umbilicus, however, he is who we have and I believe he is, however slowly, beginning to turn the boat. He won't get it fully turned, in fact to imagine that any President could turn the boat 'enough' is foolish. But he is starting the turn at least.
4. I don't care what you "would appreciate". I made my points clearly and they were specific points regarding the 'nature' of speaking in absolutes, negativity, arrogance, giving Obama some time, and kool aid. Make your own lists of whatever you like.
"I made my ponts clearly"...Yup you did, unfortunately they were not the points you intended to make. Your point is that you make accusations then obfuscate and put up a series of straw man arguments that bear no resemblance to anything on point. When shown to be wrong you make shit up and fly around like some demented horsefly...fine.
In your zeal to prove whatever the heck it is you are trying to prove you have overlooked the fact that Thoams More and I disagree on practically everything politically. The difference in our dialogues is that we treat each others opinions courteously and debate with honest intent. You, not so much.
Bye now.
Was the kool aid good spuds?
it's always nice j.g.
The last $30 billion was done by geithner, don't give bush credit for things he didn't do.
curmudgeon99
Excuse me, Geitner worked with Paulson on the first AIG bail out. Did Obama, Geitner or Barney Frank put any strings on this money? The first, middle or last money?
President Obama is in charge and Geitner was his choice to fix the mess. Frankly I can't think of anyone that shouldn.t be screamed at over this.
Looking like fools.
It is beginning to look like Obama is as stupid as Bush, or as corrupt, or both. Unless he gets rid of Geithner pronto, he will confirm those suspicions.
Geithner AND summers. Incompetence personified.
I agree . . . and I wish it weren't so.
Sir....if wishes were horses......
Unfortunately.............
Meanwhile, the right wing pundits are doing their cherry picking and have the ditto heads all lathered up about union construction worker requirements in the stimulus package, among other things. It looks like a Pelosi shopping spree gone wild to them.
The Obama administration has signaled that it anticipates needing more funds to stabilize the nation's banking system.
There isn't enough money in the world to accomplish that.
No, there isn't enough money, especially now that we know it's not just U.S. Banks that are being stabilized with U.S. taxpayers' money.
Uncontrolled globalization is sucking the life-blood out of all taxpayers!
Commondreamers,
In time, it will become crystal clear, even to America's liberal-socialists, that Barack "Superstar" Obama is nothing more than a populist demagogue and mega-corporate compromiser.
For the most part, on the major issues, Obama is following the disastrous policies of GW Bush. Together, they have sunk this nation into an abyss of debt (and war) from which we may never recover.
