Linda Sarsour Releases Statement to US Press and Cable News on Latest Incitements to Islamophobic Violence by Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert

Linda Sarsour released the following open message to U.S. press and cable news media on the latest encouragement of anti-Muslim violence by Marjorie Taylor Greene:

"This is a grave moment for democracy. Our rights are being rolled back in public, our brazenly illegitimate Supreme Court can barely contain its glee at doing so -- and Marjorie is busy throwing tantrums on Twitter.

We already knew that Marjorie Taylor Greene is an Islamophobe, an actual anti-Semite, and a coward, who uses blatant lies, bigotry and hate to get attention. I expect nothing less from the person who tried to physically force the two first Muslim Congresswomen in US history, Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, to retake their Congressional oaths on a Christian Bible. Or who ran a Facebook page for years that posted the worst kind of virulent racism, open death threats, and anti-Semitic garbage. Or harassed Parkland survivors.

Congressional leadership have been handed opportunity after opportunity to clearly reject Marjorie Taylor Greene's hatred, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism. Instead, they've emboldened copycats like Lauren Boebert, who has now spent weeks smearing and endangering millions of U.S. Muslims with her open encouragement of violence.

Unconcealed bigotry in public life, in our legislative bodies, is an active threat to all of us. And instead of being at least censured, it is being normalized, daily, by the overwhelming silence of those we elect to represent us. We demand accountability for those who target and endanger already marginalized communities."
