The Fight Against the Dakota Access Pipeline Goes On

Statement of Wenonah Hauter, Executive Director, Food & Water Watch

WASHINGTON

"We are relieved that the Obama administration is showing the Standing Rock Sioux the dignity and respect they deserve by halting further construction of the Dakota Access pipeline on or near their sacred lands and water sources. But the fight against the Dakota Access pipeline isn't over. It won't be until this hazardous, antiquated oil conduit is canceled for good. This pipeline and many other proposals like it would serve only to deepen our country's dependence on polluting fossil fuels, and place in peril the front-line communities that must face the constant threat of leaks, spills, explosions and water contamination from oil and gas infrastructure every day."

Food & Water Watch mobilizes regular people to build political power to move bold and uncompromised solutions to the most pressing food, water, and climate problems of our time. We work to protect people's health, communities, and democracy from the growing destructive power of the most powerful economic interests.
