The Fight Against the Dakota Access Pipeline Goes On

Statement of Wenonah Hauter, Executive Director, Food & Water Watch

WASHINGTON - "We are relieved that the Obama administration is showing the Standing Rock Sioux the dignity and respect they deserve by halting further construction of the Dakota Access pipeline on or near their sacred lands and water sources. But the fight against the Dakota Access pipeline isn't over. It won't be until this hazardous, antiquated oil conduit is canceled for good. This pipeline and many other proposals like it would serve only to deepen our country’s dependence on polluting fossil fuels, and place in peril the front-line communities that must face the constant threat of leaks, spills, explosions and water contamination from oil and gas infrastructure every day."

This is the world we live in. This is the world we cover.

Because of people like you, another world is possible. There are many battles to be won, but we will battle them together—all of us. Common Dreams is not your normal news site. We don't survive on clicks. We don't want advertising dollars. We want the world to be a better place. But we can't do it alone. It doesn't work that way. We need you. If you can help today—because every gift of every size matters—please do.
