UN Suspends Food Aid To Gaza—Again

The UN is to again suspend distribution of food aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip because of fuel shortages, the UN Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) has said.0505 01

The announcement was made several hours after Israel closed two major crossing points into the territory after they came under mortar fire.

UNRWA stopped distributing food aid in Gaza two weeks ago for several days after its vehicles ran out of fuel.

Israel has blockaded Gaza since Hamas took power in the territory last year.

More than 80% of Gaza’s population relies on humanitarian assistance, with UN food aid going to about 1.1 million people. A high proportion of them are children.

Aid to 650,000 people would be halted, UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunness said.

The suspension would begin late on Monday, he said, when fuel supplies were expected to be completely exhausted.

He said both the Palestinians and Israelis had promised that UNRWA would receive the fuel it needs to maintain its deliveries, but none had arrived.

Rice visit

The UN was also forced to halt aid deliveries last month when fuel ran out.

Chronic fuel shortages in the Gaza Strip were hampered by a strike by Gaza’s fuel distributors and petrol station owners.

But Israel also tightened fuel deliveries to the Nahal Oz terminal on the border after Palestinian militants killed two Israelis.

The Nahal Oz terminal and the Karni crossings - through which most food, fuel and humanitarian aid reaches Gaza - were closed by Israel on Sunday after a mortar attack, AFP news agency said.

Israel has said the crossings are being deliberately targeted by Hamas.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas are to meet on Monday after meetings with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

She is in the Middle East to lay the ground for a trip by US President George W Bush to the region later this month.

The current peace process, launched at a Middle East conference hosted by Mr Bush in November, has been dogged by a lack of progress.

Ms Rice said she still believed a peace agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians was possible by the year’s end, according to commitments made by both sides last year.

Now I read that the Jews will provide another syncopated drip of fuel to Gaza. Such exquisite torture. Like the legendary Chineese ‘water drop’ torture. Or is that American ‘waterboarding’ torture?

Can you imagine the ‘outrage’ in the ‘civilized’ west if Tel Aviv was blockaded and squeezed and its citizens were dying a slow miserable death ? Hypocrisy is the exclusive preserve of the ‘developed’ world.

I feel bad for the plight of the Palestinians but it is not America’s problem. We have enough problems we are handling poorly. America needs to distance itself from the entire region.

Stop giving aid to the Palestinians, Lebanese, Israelis, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait etc.

Jposty- What is happening in Gaza id not the US’s problem…

    IT IS THE USA’S FAULT!!

Without the criminal complicity of the US, Israel would not be able to carry out it program of genocide by attrition.

Israel couldn’t steal the land of the Palestinians by force, so now they have reduced a MASSIVE civilian area to little more than an open air ‘guilt by association’ prison camp, and are slowly and methodically starving the prisoners to death, all the while using the more active prisoners as target practice.

If any other county was doing this it would be denounced publicly as GENOCIDE or ETHNIC CLEANSING.

But because this is Israel, the land of the Second Coming, they are permitted anything and denied nothing.

  7. jposty May 5th, 2008 1:48 pm

Just to play the devil’s advocate here… in all fairness America gives far more money to Israel’s Arab neighbors like Suadi Arabi, Egypt, Kuwait, etc than we give Israel.

… and again to play devil’s advocate… the Israeli people haven’t necessarily cake walked all the way through history. Between being enslaved by Egypt and Babylon… having 10 tribes massacred by the Assyrians… almost being annihilated by Hitler… sneak attacks by Egypt… and terrorist bombings by the Palestinians.

I would hope we wouldn’t rush to judgment… there is no telling how America would react if they were subject to death on such a large scale.

Jposty- The USA turned a blind eye to the Jews extermination by the Nazis. IBM sold them the computers used to tabulate the death toll.

When the Jews rebelled and left Egypt, they took a lot of EGYPTIAN religious practices with them, INCLUDING MONOTHEISM!

Babylon was the SOURCE of the Hebrew god ‘YHVH’.

The reason the Assyrians attacked the Hebrews was because of the Hebrew INVASION AND OCCUPATION of the Canaanite lands.

The Six Day War with Egypt was the result of Israeli incursions along their mutual border at the behest of the US CIA. The Israeli’s also attacked the USS Liberty in a false flag operation designed to draw the US into a wider war with Egypt.

The occupation of Palestine by EUROPEAN JEWS started in the 1920’s, with the creation of the Jewish State by the UK. JEWISH ZIONISTS TERRORIZED THE LOCAL PALESTINIAN POPULATION BY BOMBING MOSQUES AND MARKETPLACES! The subsequent creation of the PLO and Hammas are the DIRECT RESULT of Zionist policies! I am NOT saying the actions of the PLO and others are justified. They were PREDICTABLE!

  9. jposty May 5th, 2008 2:34 pm

I don’t disagree… i’m just issuing a call of reticence. I don’t know… and i’d venture to say a vast majority Americans would have no clue how they would react in normal political situations had they been through what the Jews had throughout the ages.

Jposty- America has NO CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK to deal with what subject populations have to suffer.

There has NEVER been a long range attack by a foreign power on American soil the the US government did not KNOW AND APPROVE OF!

9/11 was a one-off psy-war false flag attack designed to elicit a precise response from a cowed US population. That visceral fear was channeled into attacking TWO INNOCENT COUNTRIES THAT STOOD IN THE WAY OF US DOMINATION OF MIDDLE EASTERN OIL PRODUCTION!

It is documented that Osamma binLaden was a LONGTIME CIA asset! Therefore, he was a convenient patsy to blame 9/11 on. WHY DO YOU THINK THERE HAS BEEN NO CONCERTED EFFORT MADE TO CAPTURE HIM?!

Ask yourself why the Palestinians ‘rocket attacks’ so often hit EMPTY apartment buildings or farmers fields? Ask why SO FEW Israeli’s are injured or killed? ASK WHY ACTS OF JEWISH TERRORISM ARE ALMOST NEVER REPORTED IN THE MAIN STREAM MEDIA?! I refer to a CBC aired documentary that detailed Jewish terrorists who planned to bomb a girls ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! A JEWISH GIRLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! They had written notes that they would leave evidence that would implicate Palestinians.

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE AN INNOCENT, PUT UPON PEOPLE?!

Gaza is the world’s largest concentration camp. And shame on the world!

  12. kendpotter May 5th, 2008 4:21 pm

    Galen,

I used to think you made some valid points, but you sound like you just went off the deep end. Conspiracy theorists are simply a group of peoplet that will use the most convaluted logic to justifiy what ever position they have already decided is correct. Sorry, but half or better of what you just posted above won’t pass the giggle test.

  13. U.S. of Babylon May 5th, 2008 5:24 pm

….kendpotter…certainly the points you are having trouble with as ‘conspiracy theories’ mentioned by Galen are not out of the relm of possibility, as far as our very own government partaking in wholly immoral, underhanded tactics in hopes to achieve their underlying ambitions (global dominance, Capitalist-expansion, ultimate power-mongering, etc.)…come on now…the Iran-Contra fiasco, the Gulf of Tonkin affair, Pearl Harbor, War on Drugs in Central & South America, the training and funding of Bin Laden’s rebel group against Soviet aggression, our staunch support/backing for Saddam during the Iran/Iraq War…or how about ‘Operation Ajax’… The CIA coup to overthrow Iran’s government back in 1953, which re-installed Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, replacing a democratic-oriented government with a puppet dictatorship!!….these are just a few of the covert/behind the scenes ‘interventions’ that come to mind that our very own govenrnment has conducted in out of desperation to try to advance their hegemony-agenda….call them ‘conspiracy theories’, call them ‘coencidence theories’, call them whatever…the bottom line is that the power-brokers that dictate our national and international agenda are rogues and resort to completely undemocratic, corrupt, illegal means to try and achieve their goals; so it’s not truly that hard to believe when it comes down to it that some within our government’s power cirlcles knew of and/or assisted in some way of the impending 911-attack…is that really so far-fetched to think could happen based on all the evidence that exists out there of our government’s shady misdeeds and underhandedness it has conducted in in the past??!!…..

  14. eileenfleming May 5th, 2008 5:27 pm

On April 17, 2008, Hamas proposed ANOTHER truce between Israel and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip with an option to extend it to include Palestinians in the West Bank.

    Israel said NO once again.

The children of Israel are not served by starving the children of Gaza.

Israel’s attacks on Gaza – the economic blockade and military assaults – are not in response to the rocket attacks from Gaza, but are Israel’s way of continuing the inhumane occupation and siege of Gaza.

Even if the Israeli response was a response to Gaza rockets, such a response would still be illegal as collective punishment is always illegal, immoral, unethical, disproportionate, and ultimately futile.

U.S.A. Government support of Israel’s brutal occupation enables the current escalating punishment against civilians and creates world wide ill will against all of US.

We the people are supposed to be the government and if we have any moral fiber at all, we will rise up [intifada in Arabic] and demand the U.S. stop the annual 3.2 BILLION military aid to Israel, and we will demand that Israel end its collective punishment on the open air prisoners called civilians in Gaza.

ONLY a bilateral comprehensive ceasefire that covers all the occupied Palestinian territories and an END TO THE OCCUPATION can ever bring security to Israel.

If we U.S.A. citizens remain mute and unmoved, we will be rightly viewed by the rest of the world as complicit in this major human rights violation and all talks about “peace” will be understood as providing continuing support for the Israeli-imposed military occupation.

    PLEASE DO SOMETHING:

RISE UP/INTIFADA and make a few phone calls:

    White House: 202-456-1111

State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs: 202-647-7209.

Contact Office of the Secretary General, Chief of Staff Vijay Nambiar:

    nambiar@un.org

    1-212-963-8922.

    Demand:

    * An immediate end to the assault on Gaza, and the opening of its border crossings to people and goods.

    * A comprehensive ceasefire that covers all territories and all parties to the conflict.

    * An end to U.S. military aid to Israel. Oppose the new USA $30 billion military aid package to Israel

Call your national as well as your local media and demand they report what’s REALLY going on in the Occupied Palestinian territories.

Having been there 5 times myself since June 2005, I know they are NOT!

“BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS: THEY SHALL BE CALLED THE CHILDREN OF GOD!”- Jesus Christ, said in Matthew 5:9.

    U.S. of Babylon

“….kendpotter…certainly the points you are having trouble with as ‘conspiracy theories’ mentioned by Galen are not out of the relm of possibility,”

    Hi Babylon,

My litmus test is does this make sense? For the Gulf of Tonkin - Let me see Uncle Ho really wants us to leave and not intervene further on the behalf of the South. So, he sends some rickety PT boats on some suicide charge at the 7th Fleet. Sorry, doesn’t pass the snicker test, and I thought so at the time.

The CIA brought down the twin towers - Let’s see American agents are allowed to inflict billions of dollars of economic damage to the country including the financial and insurance industries (who most of the conspiracy theorists claim run the country anyway) and no one in their chain-of-command thinks this is a dumb idea. Every single one of them are evil and venal men. Not only that, they are able to recruit a whole bunch of Saudi and Yemeni jihadists who would just as soon slit their own throats than work for the CIA (oh sure mister CIA agent, I really believe you want me to help destroy the Twin Towers). Sorry, it just doesn’t pass the giggle test.

  17. gde May 5th, 2008 7:07 pm

Gaza is on the sea. It should be supplied that way.

  18. Galen May 5th, 2008 7:08 pm

Kendpotter- Ask yourself this: How did Osamma binladen paralyze the ENTIRE US Air Defense Command, render the air defenses of the Pentagon useless, co-ordinate multiple wargames that delayed the FAA, and had the FBI seize the very evidence that would PROVE the Bush administrations claims?

Also, I defy you to deny at least ONE major, documented conspiracy committed by the US government that led to an international conflict. I’ll even give you a hint to start your research. Look up the ‘Tonkin Gulf incident’.

  19. cactuspie May 5th, 2008 8:51 pm

First: The UN has learned well from their Neocon/Zionist masters. The very organization in charge of monitoring crimes against humanity is now committing them.

Second: kendpotter, do the chemical byproducts of demolition explosives found in the Twin Tower rubble or the freefall of building 7 or the suppressed testimony of emergency responders who heard explosions and were told to keep their mouths shut or the double insurance payoff of Larry Silverstein or . . . do these make you giggle?

  20. mikepeters May 5th, 2008 10:02 pm

    GALEN, YOU ARE RIGHT.

9-11 was an OBVIOUS controlled demolition.

To get us into a war the “NEOCONS” were pushing.

    And NEOCON=LIKUD=AIPAC.

AND WHO WAS THE LANDLORD OF THE WTC’S?

Why was WTC7 not even brought up in the 9-11 commission report?

So now Christians slaughter Muslims….perfect from Nazi-Israel’s perspective.

“I feel bad for the plight of the Palestinians but it is not America’s problem.”

America “The US” IS the problem. It is giving more than $250 billion per year to fund the problem.

  22. Galen May 5th, 2008 10:23 pm

    Kendpotter- Think about this:

The Bushco conspiracy was not the first attempt to overthrow the US Constitution.

It was just the one that succeeded.

Nixon tried it, but was tripped up by his own arrogance and the bungled Watergate caper.

In 1934, on August 22, three days after Hitler seizes power in Germany, American General Smedley D. Butler was approached by an agent of Andrew Mellon Associates, Rockefeller Associates, General Motors and the Du Ponts. This agent, Gerald McGuire, asks Butler if he would join a conspiracy to overthrow President F.D. Roosevelt, and become an ‘American Fuhrer’. Butler refuses, gathers evidence he hands over to Roosevelt, who then publicly exposes the plot by leaking it to the press of the day. The plot is called off. This plot is well documented in Jules Archer’s ‘The Plot to Seize the Whitehouse’, and Charles Higham’s book ‘Trading With the Enemy: An Expose of the Nazi-American Money Plot 1933- 1939.’ Higham writes that the plotters were ready to kill Roosevelt in order to succeed.

None of the principals of the plot were ever arrested because they were too wealthy and too well connected. Just like the cabal around Bush.

In addition, what about Henry Kissenger’s conspiracy that overthrew the DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED government of Chile, and the assassination of Salvadore Allende, which coincidentally, took place on September 11, 1973?

Or the CIA conspiracy that overthrew the DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED government of Iran in the 1950’s and installed the murderous regime of Shah Reza Pahlevi?

What about the US military plan ‘Operation Northwoods’ that called for a false flag operation that would blame the apparent deaths of ‘innocent Americans’ on Cuba, that would have triggered a war against Fidel Castro and eventually the USSR. ‘Northwoods’ was called off by JFK. And we all know what happened to him.

So do you think such a conspiracy is too impossible. That it does not pass your ‘giggle test’?

  23. continually amused May 5th, 2008 11:25 pm

In my many years of living on this frail planet I’ve never had the opportunity to look forward to a meal provided by the UN.

Come to think of it, even when I was hungry for whatever reason I dont think I ever wondered ” Hey, where in the hell is the UN
    with my falafel wrap?”

The UN can lick my middle eastern anus. It is THE most FLACID, IMPOTANT, SPINELESS group of idealists that ever got together and fooled the world into subsidizing it’s life. American welfare has NOTHING on this these con artists!!

    Lovely situation; not.

  26. kendpotter May 6th, 2008 12:54 pm

    Galen,

You are asking me about history. I agreed with you on the Gulf of Tonkin, though I don’t believe it was planned in advance. Some jittery Navy guys saw some bogus radar returns and interpreted them as PT Boats. Then the Johnson administration latched onto it, built it into “Causus Belli” and Johnson, master of the Congress that he was, had no difficulty passing the resolution.

I know about Allende, Mossadegh, and the others. We have never had any problem screwing with other countries. But again, what you are asking me to believe is that we inflicted a multi-billion dollar wound on ourselves. The captains of industry would not allow it. No one in the position of authority high enough to authorize it would allow it. There was simply too much wealth lost. These people first and foremost are capitalists - Money is everything.

Bush didn’t need it to justify his war, since 911 never provide any justification in the first place. He always viewed (and still does) Afghanistan as a side-show, a distraction, and has starved that theater of the necessary resources.

You have obviously never spent time in the military. Osama didn’t need to have some cabal paralyze the air defenses of the nation. He had surprise. I have spent time in a RATCF (Radar Air Traffic Control Facility) and until the first plane hit a tower it is highly unlikely they knew anything was wrong. Most controlling of commercial aircraft is done with IFF, and one of the first things the highjackers did was turn the transponder off. This makes the plane invisible to a RATCF unless they change modes, which they had no reason for doing. Even after the first impact, they didn’t know it was an act of terrorism - That didn’t happen until the second tower was hit.

You forget the Theory of Occam’s Razor, that the simplest explanation is most often correct. You want me to believe that a disparate group of people numbering in the thousands, all with their own world-views and goals, came together for this one occasion, and then managed to maintain the conspiracy. Sorry, you are in “Tooth Fairy” territory.

  27. Galen May 6th, 2008 2:10 pm

Kendpotter- Gee. What was the flavor of ‘Bushco’ brand kool-aid you drank?

Look at Paul Thompson’s ‘Terror Timeline’.

The first jet was REPORTED off course at 8:20am on 9/11. Jet interceptors were not scrambled until 9:38am.

Have you read Davis R. Griffen’s “A New Pearl Harbor’? If not, please do so.

Read Barry Zwicker’s ‘Towers of Deception’.

    Look at A.K. Dewdney’s 9/11 website.

AND ASK YOURSELF WHY WTC BUILDING 7 COLLAPSED WITH ONLY MINOR DAMAGE!

As for the ‘captains of industry wouldn’t allow it’ bit… 9/11 WAS A MONEY MAKER!! ask yourself how much money has been generated by the military/ industrial/ security and construction industries SINCE 9/11?

And what about the ‘put’ stock options that were sent out on the ONLY TWO AIRLINES INVOLVED IN 9/11?

As for high members of government wanting to PREVENT 9/11, consider that Dick Cheney was in effective command of a PARALLEL government at the time, and was asked whether interceptors should be scrambled, He replied: ‘No, the STAND DOWN CONTINUES AS ORDERED!’

Also, ask yourself why the Secret Service, upon learning of he first aircraft impact, DID NOT IMMEDIATELY EVACUATE BUSH TO AIR FORCE ONE AND SAFETY?! The Secret Service UTTERLY VIOLATED it’s own mandate to protect the President at all times! The only reason they would have done this was if they KNEW there was no threat to Bush.

If you are still willing to believe the ‘Official Story’ that 19 Saudi and Egyptian hijackers (eight of whom are still ALIVE AND WELL in Saudi Arabia) committed this act at the behest of a KNOWN CIA ASSET, then you should just vote for McCain in November, then line up at the gate of your local halliburton work camp…

  28. kendpotter May 6th, 2008 5:13 pm

    Sorry Galen,

Just because I think you are out to lunch doesn’t make me one of them. You really don’t earn any style points by telling me to vote for McCain.

PS - Typing in all caps doesn’t make you right, simply obnoxious.

  29. kendpotter May 7th, 2008 10:24 am

    Galen

“Also, ask yourself why the Secret Service, upon learning of he first aircraft impact, DID NOT IMMEDIATELY EVACUATE BUSH TO AIR FORCE ONE AND SAFETY?! The Secret Service UTTERLY VIOLATED it’s own mandate to protect the President at all times! The only reason they would have done this was if they KNEW there was no threat to Bush.”

How about because, like all the rest of us who aren’t conspiracy fruitcakes, they thought is was just a tragic accident until the second plane hit? I am just guessing here.

  30. good luck May 7th, 2008 6:11 pm

    I have a simple question
What can’t the UN drop fuel and food by plane? We did it for Berlin so why not just say FU to Israel and save these people.
