Sanders Votes No on Keystone XL Pipeline
WASHINGTON - Calling on Senate colleagues to sustain an expected veto by President Barack Obama, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement after the Senate today passed a bill to allow construction of the Keystone XL pipeline:
"With the scientific community telling us loudly and clearly that we must transform our energy system away from fossil fuels if we are to combat climate change, it is totally crazy for the Congress to support the production and transportation of some of the dirtiest oil on the planet."

Independent journalism has become the last firewall against government and corporate lies. Yet, with frightening regularity, independent media sources are losing funding, closing down or being blacked out by Google and Facebook. Never before has independent media been more endangered. If you believe in Common Dreams, if you believe in people-powered independent media, please support us now and help us fight—with truths—against the lies that would smother our democracy.
