Patriotic Millionaires Statement on Biden Inauguration: "This Is Not a Moment for Moderation or Caution"

"We hope that President Biden and Vice President Harris recognize the mandate the American people have given them to govern from a position of strength."

WASHINGTON

Today, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will be sworn into office on the steps of the US Capitol, marking the end of four years of Trump presidency. In response, Morris Pearl, the Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and a former managing director of BlackRock, Inc., issued the following statement:

"The Patriotic Millionaires congratulate President Joe Biden on his inauguration as 46th President of the United States. Our country is in a moment of incredible need after a glaring lack of leadership over the last four years, and it is more important than ever that the United States be led by a President who will dedicate each and every day to making sure that our government works for all people, not just the rich, powerful, and well connected.

This is not a moment for moderation or caution. The American people need relief not just from a year-long pandemic, but also from decades of growing inequality and creeping insecurity. Correcting this country's downward trajectory will require bold, decisive action, and we hope that President Biden and Vice President Harris recognize the mandate the American people have given them to govern from a position of strength. We hope that President Biden is up to this monumental challenge, and we look forward to working with him to repair our country's democracy and rebuild its economy."

The Patriotic Millionaires is a group of high-net worth Americans who share a profound concern about the destabilizing level of inequality in America. Our work centers on the two things that matter most in a capitalist democracy: power and money. Our goal is to ensure that the country's political economy is structured to meet the needs of regular Americans, rather than just millionaires. We focus on three "first" principles: a highly progressive tax system, a livable minimum wage, and equal political representation for all citizens.
