Trump Joins European Official to Tout Dangerous Fossil Fuel Export Scheme

Senate Must Reject Deepening Fossil Fuel Ties to Europe

WASHINGTON

President Trump joined European Commissioner for Energy Maros Sefcovic at the site of a new liquified natural gas (LNG) export facility in Louisiana today in order to promote the industry and push for increased fossil fuel exports to Europe and elsewhere. In the meantime, the Senate is considering legislation that would provide billions of dollars of support for natural gas infrastructure projects in Europe, further incentivizing fracking and fossil fuel development in the United States. In response, Food & Water Watch Executive Director Wenonah Hauter issued the following statement:

"As our planet teeters on the brink of climate chaos, America should be leading the international drive for clean, renewable energy, not trying to hamper it by flooding the cross-Atlantic market with dirty fossil fuels. It's quite apparent by now that this president has no concern for the wellbeing of the planet and future generations. But there's still time for the Senate to stand up for our future by rejecting new funding for European natural gas export programs. Common-sense climate and energy policy shouldn't be a partisan pursuit. It should be a human pursuit."

Food & Water Watch mobilizes regular people to build political power to move bold and uncompromised solutions to the most pressing food, water, and climate problems of our time. We work to protect people's health, communities, and democracy from the growing destructive power of the most powerful economic interests.
