UNITED NATIONS -- A three-day meeting of over 2,500 delegates from more than 500 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and representing 80 countries affirmed that climate change "is potentially the most serious threat humanity and our environment have ever faced."
A declaration adopted Friday warns that global warming can possibly have a devastating impact on virtually all aspects of life in the planet, including "catastrophic effects on our earth's ecosystem, biodiversity and infrastructure."
Among other potential threats singled out were: the significant reduction of available food, water, energy and transport; massive migration of populations and the possible destruction of entire cultures and small island nations; significant damage to economic, political, cultural and social bases; and irreversible harm to the lifestyles of indigenous peoples.
The meeting, described as one of the largest single gathering of NGOs, was organized by the U.N.'s Department of Public Information, which has been hosting similar conferences over the last 59 years. This year's theme was: "Climate Change: How it Impacts Us All."
Stressing the role of NGOs in raising global awareness of climate change, Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro told delegates the United Nations today relies on its partnership with the NGO community "in virtually everything the world body does".
"Whether it is peace-building in sub-Saharan Africa or human rights in Latin America, disaster assistance in the Caribbean or de-mining efforts in the Middle East, the United Nations depends upon the advocacy skills, creative resources and grass-roots reach of civil society organizations in all our work," she said, paying a compliment to NGOs, described as "the world's third superpower."
The NGO representatives committed themselves, over the next 12 months, "to unify behind a common vision of collaboration -- even if we disagree on tactics -- to develop and implement plans for adaptation and mitigation, taking into account the full range of consequences."
They also pledged to "develop and implement individual and collective action plans" in their respective countries.
The meeting also called on U.N. member states to recognize "that war is damaging to the climate" and that all governments "ratify U.N. conventions on climate change."
The United Nations will be hosting a high-level meeting, mostly of heads of state and heads of government, on climate change on Sept. 24, the day prior to the annual General Assembly debate in New York. A second climate change conference is scheduled to take place in Bali in December.
Migiro said the effects of climate change are already visible. "The Arctic is warming twice as fast as the global average. The resultant melting threatens the region's people and ecosystems, but it also imperils low-lying islands and coastal cities half a world away," she said.
On the other hand, as glaciers retreat, water supplies are being put at risk. "And for one-third of the world's population living in dry lands, especially those in my home continent Africa, changing weather patterns threaten to exacerbate desertification, drought and food insecurity," declared Migiro, a national of Tanzania.
She pointed out that the recent findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have settled the basic science, and silenced any lingering doubters.
The panel's report has "unequivocally confirmed the warming of our climate system, and linked it directly to human activity. The effects of climate change are already visible."
These changes will not all prove painless. But their discomfort is outweighed -- many times over -- by the cost of not acting, she added.
"And, in fact, the IPCC report suggests that it will not cost us the moon to save the earth -- we may need perhaps as little as 0.1 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP) annually for the next three decades, if we start to act now."
She singled out the 27-member The European Union (EU), which has agreed to a 20 percent emission reduction target, which will rise to 30 percent if other countries follow suit.
She called on NGOs to help push for the "quick wins" that can fast be implemented by almost all countries.
For instance, Cuba, Venezuela, the European Union, Australia and several other countries have pledged to phase out old incandescent light bulbs in favor of compact fluorescent lights.
"Let us all push for such initiatives in our countries and our communities," she added.
Richard Jordan, conference chair and representative of the International Council for Caring Communities, said cross-cutting issues of gender, education, human rights, health and migration should be articulated in any discussion of climate change.
He urged participants to pause for the three-day duration of the conference and consider the reasons for the lack of progress.
"For all too soon it would be Monday morning and time for everyone to help combat that very serious challenge to the entire 'human-earth' community," he said.
Joan Kirby, chair of the NGO/DPI executive committee said "the tide is turning and political leaders are responding here and around the world."
She commended Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for taking the initiative on climate change and giving the issue a high political profile in the international community.
Hopefully, she said, conference participants would be transformed into "conservers rather than users of the earth," and leave knowing what they could do to respond to the challenge.

Show AllKem Patrick---Well, perhaps we aren't being assaulted in the crude way I expresed it. I only wanted to express my feelings that, perhaps, we've got it all wrong. I have as much hope as anyone in the future. I'm just not certain we're up to it. Our selfishness and greed might prove to be our undoing. Is that hard to consider?
B
Here's an option:
People don't usually buy into fatalism or for that matter
respond to ideas that are screamed/whined/forced upon them.
Do your little part. Do something simple. People notice and then they will pick it up and do their part or they won't. Million people here... million people there... and it starts to add up. If legislation comes into play to help, great. If it doesn't you don't have to wait. But giving up or waiting for the world to collapse so that you can say "I told you so!" is no better than the people knowingly polluting.
Smile and do what you can.
Peace People
I guess there is an option, we could continue to be passive observers and read about how it all turns out in the journal of science or some future issue of nature.
EMAHO...Uhhhhh, yano wat? I feer yu is rite. Derfor, ihaint gonna tri and spel rite nomore, kaz who kares,___ we ize fukt?
Look guys, and gals. We're all fucked and might as well admit it. Once the evolutionary wheel starts turning (has it ever stopped?), it's all over for whoever, or whatever, stands in the way...including our self-inflated vision of what humankind thinks it is, or might be. We've thought we're great throughout the ages, but all we've discovered, after all this time, is that we're only monkeys, after all. This is my tree, and you get the hell off it!!! That's what it all boils down to. Why deny it?
imfedup
No offense taken.
The last statement, it is not a solicitation if that is your question.
I think it orginated from reading some of the links that were posted here. Adding that discussion of climate castrophy is this years theme preceded by similar conferences over the last 59 years. It is like waiting until the entire planet is polluted before anyone notices there is a problem. It is not as if there are no environmental cues that even the most detached person could not miss unless they were in a coma.
Where is the value in this information? I guess I can't really explain it.
treefrog,
disregard the last, I'm
getting tired and witless here.
Pardon my slang, I meant NO offense
But still... what was that last statement.
treefrog,
Pardon my slang I meant no offense.
but still... What was that last statement?
Imfedup
What do you mean, What?
btw, I am not a dude.

It isn't short term thinking, it has been predicted for hundreads of years. The "world" has been destroyed three times by water and fire. I guess this is why some cultures think of fire and water as medicine or treatment for illness.
Mankind has destroyed much of it's self and you have only to look around you to see it. We haven't been paying attention and waiting for science to tell you is a just another mistake. If you don't know that days are hotter and night cooler or that the sky shouldn't be brown or the sun red, what do you call yourself?
Send me a few billion dollars and I'll give you a few more 11th hour testimonials.
Dude... what?
Additionally, human beings are the end points for the same pollution found in the sky and the clouds. Over 200 chemicals are found in umbilical cord blood and children in various parts of world excrete pesticides in thier urine. Send me a few billion dollars and I'll give you a few more 11th hour testimonials.

Okay Imfedup, but what I read is, if the atmosphere loses its oxygen, and that is a certanty if we kill off the phytoplankton, then Mars WILL have a sister planet. Thanks for the fun debate too.

Yes indeed, the planet has survived many natural disasters, it has never had to deal with the ammount of deadly and forever lasting poisons created by man, until the past two hundred years or so...
actually it has dealt with worse. Their have been 5 mass extinctions on this planet.
* ORDOVICIAN-SILURIAN EXTINCTION: Small marine organisms died out. (440 mya)
* DEVONIAN EXTINCTION: Many tropical marine species went extinct. (365 mya)
* PERMIAN-TRIASSIC EXTINCTION: The largest mass extinction event in Earth's history affected a range of species, including many vertebrates. (250 mya)
* TRIASSIC-JURASSIC EXTINCTION: The extinction of other vertebrate species on land allowed dinosaurs to flourish. (210 mya)
* CRETACEOUS-TERTIARY EXTINCTION: (65.5 mya) wipes out more than 50% of plants and animals. It is a major turning point in Earth's history, marking the end of the geologic period known as the Cretaceous and the beginning of the Tertiary period. (Source: California Academy of Sciences)
All of these are were more catastrophic. But really, that is beside the point. That was then, this is now
KEM PATRICK
Humanity is killing this planet and that my friend is not my scientific opinion. Guess for some strange reason, you are unaware of what the scientific community is telling us, along with Mother Nature...
I am well aware of the problems we face now. Their is no argument there.
But it is not on the same scale that happened 250 million years ago and that is a scientific fact. Again... that was then this is now.
The good news is that we see it coming. And that is why I feel we will survive. I'm not here to say lets keep going as we are... and I am not here to question your concern. But please (In the immortal words of Douglas Adams) Don't Panic. That leads to poor decisions and we don't need anymore of those from anybody.
KEM PATRICK
Why do you believe mankind will prevail, WHY? I 'hope' you are correct, but what scientific evidence is your opinion based upon? I'm sure we would all like to hear it. If there is any real hope for mankind, 'typer' out for us.
Don't take this wrong but everything about the future is hypothesis. There is no crystal ball. There is no scientific evidence that states we will not prevail. The evidence I give you, for the hope of the human race, is by the fact that I wrote this and you are reading it. We are still here and as long as we are here we have a chance. Which is a good thing since I really would prefer a spirited discussion with you than becoming a fossil remain for some geologist to find 100 million years from now.
Peace Brother
Malthus2 - what a sadly chosen screen name! But I agree with you; overpopulation is indeed our greatest problem and is ultimately responsible for the probably fatal climate change we're experiencing. I recently re-read "The Population Bomb" by Paul Ehrlich and he got it right way back then in the 50s or 60s. Only thing is, he underestimated the problem and how rapidly the population would grow. (He also suggests some really draconian solutions, which may not be necessary even now).
Arthur C. Clarke says the earth cannot support more than 3 billion people, and I believe Stephen Hawking says about the same. We might have a chance if we copied China with a one-child-per-family law, but instead we glorify parenthood (especially motherhood) in all our culture and make much of 60-year-old women who should know better but give birth to twins anyway. Ridiculous. (If they have nothing better to do they might try typing away on a good blog or better yet, joining a protest march somewhere.)
(Possible conflict of interest statement - I myself have three children, but at least I had them in my 20s).
Here's the link to the Nova site that KEM PATRICK is talking about - not good news, but than, what is these days?
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/transcripts/3310_sun.html
Malthus 2: You've got it right, my brother. I hope others can accept the truth that, if they are unable, will satrangle them someday,
imfedup...you have to believe I'm totally fed up, also, and am trying my best to get through these last years. I didn't intend to initiate a conflict. My gesture and response, at his point, would be "namaste". I recognize you and your humanity, and I hope you recognize mine.
Let's keep up this dialogue. It is, after all, the only real way to peace.
I noticed that the NGO's can't get it right. The number one problem is overpopulation of which global warming is just one of several major symptoms. No wonder humans won't make it. They don't even grasp the problem let alone solutions. I notice that Al Gore is writing a new book "Path to Survival" It sounds like a rerun of the 1949 book by William Vogt, "The Road to Survival." I wonder why we even have libraries since so little of what is written is ever acted upon.
I will try my favorite poem again to try to enlighten all the boneheads and other types of heads who will read it.

Conservationist's Lament
By Kenneth Boulding
In: Man's Role in Changing the Face of the Earth, 1956
University of Chicago Press, p. 1087
The world is finite, resources are scarce,
Things are bad and will be worse.
Coal is burned and gas exploded,
Forests cut and soils eroded.
Wells are dry and air's polluted,
Dust in blowing, trees uprooted,
Oil is going, ores depleted,
Drains receive what is excreted.
Land is sinking, seas are rising,
Man is far too enterprising,
Fire will rage with Man to fan it,
Soon we'll have a plundered planet.
People breed like fertile rabbits,
People have disgusting habits.
Moral: The evolutionary plan went astray by evolving Man.
The truth is, the very same things we are writing here, may have been written 20, 40, 60,000, or a million or two million years ago on planet Mars. We don't know if Mars at one time in the past, was a blue and white water planet like Earth. We don't know if humanity lived on Mars and finally killed it. Oh, Mars survived if that did occur, it's still there, silently orbiting in our solar system.___ Mars is pretty dead as far as any visible life is concerned, a big silent ball of dirt and dust covered rocks.
Could that happen to Earth? Oh yes indeed, you can bet on it! It could happen in only a few short years if we manage to kill off the ocean's phytoplankon. Their numbers have dropped off by at lest 10% in the past few years, and no one knows what it is that's killing them. That's not my rabid opinion, ____ check it out. At my old age, the only thing that I may be unhappy about, is what we are leaving, or not leaving, for our children and theirs.
I wonder, just how many eight to ten year old children, who may read some of the commments which express opinions such as this. ("Humanity may be eradicated because of our selfish stupidity and continual pollution of the Earth, but the planet will survive").
I wonder if they may believe, that type of attitude to be VERY selfish and ignorant short term thinking? ___ Is it? Well then, if it is, why aren't we stopping the train and talking it over with each other? ____ We know why. $$$$$$$$$ does the talking for humanity.
Ahhh IMFEDUP, Thank you for re-typing all I had already previously typed. Sorry if you think I'm sooo unhappy, but you are assuming there. Unhappy? No. concerned about what humanity is doing to Earth's enviroment? Yes, very much so.
Yes indeed, the planet has survived many natural disasters, it has never had to deal with the ammount of deadly and forever lasting poisons created by man, until the past two hundred years or so. Humanity is killing this planet and that my friend is not my scientific opinion. Guess for some strange reason, you are unaware of what the scientific community is telling us, along with Mother Nature. Of course there are at least three other strings on this screen that address the subject. BTW did you happen to read the website Grandma gave us? It's very interesting.
Why do you believe mankind will prevail, WHY? I 'hope' you are correct, but what scientific evidence is your opinion based upon? I'm sure we would all like to hear it. If there is any real hope for mankind, 'typer' out for us.
emaho!!!
emaho,
my apologies if I was too harsh
KEM PATRICK
This planet has always been in constant flux, but until about 60 years ago, this planet did not have to deal with deadly, totally 'man made', nuclear waste. The planet did not have to deal with its rain forests being wiped out by man, it did not have to deal with excessive burning of fossil fuels or pollution of its fresh waters and oceans with 'man made' nuclear waste, un-biodegradable trash and chemicals. It is nearly impossible to take an under-sea photograph, without having a chunkk of plastic float before the lens. Humanity is destroying the oceans and the vital to all life coral reefs.
The planet's atmosphere did not have to deal with burning fossil fuel smog in the lower atmosphere and burned jet fuel in its upper atmosphere, leaving the pretty contrails spewed out by daily flights of thousands of commericial and military aircraft, which block the sun's life giving rays from the necessary plants which produce our oxygen.
I have faith in humanity also and it is not a faith based upon a far right religeous zeal. I have faith that humanity will not stop killing the only home it has and will soon exterminate most life on the planet, including itself.
The planet will survive all you have mentioned. It has survived far greater
catastrophes hurled at it by the universe. Biological life is another story. If we fail, life will adapt and evolve though we may not be part of it.
And yes I do believe we will prevail. I am sorry that you are so convinced of our ultimate demise... It's not good for any person to be so unhappy.
p.s. EMAHO my apologies if I was too harsh.

Perhaps it is not important- and of course it doesn't invalidate the truth of his statements- a recent study has shown that many of those who still believe that Iraq has WMD actually have their belief systems strengthed after hearing counter-evidence- so it becomes the perfect propaganda tool for those americans still slumbering in the darkness of the corporate media and in total disconnect from the PHYSICAL REALITY of human existence- I have lived for a number of years in the mountains in India and there is a tremedous difference to experience the basic elements of survival (i.e. air, water, food, shelter) w/out the mediation of technology, "culture", consumerism-
When Will we acknowledge that we are living in an insane system of perpetual progress, perpetual growth, perpetual development in a finite world- the infinite expanse is found only in space or silence.
For a most interesting read of how jet aircraft contrails and fossil fuel burning are destroying our atmosphere, here is a link Grandma gave us on the Polar bear string.

It's about time we faced the real truth. Humanity is but one of billions of life forms on this planet. Sad but true, it's turned out to be a cancer, and Global Warming is the chemotherapy that's starting to do its work. And it's not the only weapon in the arsenal of Mother Earth.
Cancer?, Wrath of Mother Earth?,
Your religous zeal and sense of eschatology is as far right as any religous fundamentalist.
This planet has always been in constant flux and we're part of it. We adapt or we fade as in the other mass extinctions that have struck this planet. My faith in Humanity as a whole, I feel, will win the day. Do your part, give the example and smile! Hatred for those who do not share in your beliefs will solve nothing.
We need a revolution. Still...
Big changes for the good of the human family are inevitable, despite the appearance of overwhelming power in the hands of the bastards. They will fall and the people will take over.

Old--Bin Laden.......New--Bone Laden
Old- Bin Laden New- Has-Bin Laden
I think bones wins. Talk about walking into a crowded theater and yelling fire...
this is exactly how the right wingt nut jobs make their case. Simply throw out a line of complete bullshit and watch the liberal idiots rant and rave about how wrong he is. Notice bones never responded to any of the posts directed at him. It may have even been Karl Rove himself since he has little to do these days but shit just like this. He's been doing it since he was in Jr High.
The real concern is not for the planet though. The planet has already lived through periods of little to no oxygen. Life does fine in that environment as well.
Humans on the other hand are adaptable but still need oxygen. Enjoy.
All this debate about global warming is interesting...even amusing in some cases. A recent estimate concludes that "science" is aware of only 10% of life forms that inhabit Earth. That includes us...you and me. Strange how we behave as if we're the only life form that exists...or matters.
Now that the western model of "civilization", especially capitalism, is beginning to bear fruit, we somehow throw up our hands in alarm. Isn't that odd?
Western civilization hasn't been much in its brief flicker of existence except a purveyor of violence and destruction. Forget about science! What do you think gave us the Global Warming crisis in the first place? Can you spell "Industrial Revolution"?
Forget all the "advances" in the arts and humanities. Those will mean nothing when those in the future look back on the grand pile of garbage this "culture" has left behind except, perhaps, pitiful echoes of what might have been.
When whoever, or whatever, started this bizarre experiment, looks back on what's been wrought, the thought is bound to be (to borrow a phrase from Ward Churchill): "Oh my god! The chickens have come home to roost!"
The roosters in the barnyard are corrupt and degenerate. If the chickens are to have any chance of a future, it means dragging the bastards to the ground, trimming their combs and cutting off their collective nuts.
Humanity, not to mention the life form we call Earth, can't survive much longer under the effects and influence of this system we reverentially call capitalism which, after all, depends upon negative exploitation of resources.
It's about time we faced the real truth. Humanity is but one of billions of life forms on this planet. Sad but true, it's turned out to be a cancer, and Global Warming is the chemotherapy that's starting to do its work. And it's not the only weapon in the arsenal of Mother Earth.

I think you are being a bit paranoid here. Of course anyone against the US is going to criticise those oh so obvious things that the US could be criticised for. Are we going to stop saying such things because Bin Ladin might have said something like that too?
But please read the theological stuff too which appears to me to be a genuine position in the line of Bin Ladin...If it is not Bin Ladin it is someone of a similar school of thought if not even of his inner group. Is there any evidence when exactly the message was recorded?
How much does it matter whether Bin Ladin is alive or dead? Do people really believe he would be directing any actual operations these days. Surely he is just a figurehead now. So if he were dead he would be a martyr for his cause and so not necessarily any less a hero or model for those he might hope to have impressed.
But if Bin Ladin is alive do you really think he would be walking around looking like the Bin Ladin we have seen on TV? Of course not. He will have a shaven look and for a message delivery he would need to put on his old gear with makeup so we won't recognise what he now looks like. His change in appearance proves nothing except his makeup artist is not very good.
Bin Ladin could even be living in Britain, France or Germany or even in the US or Canada under an another name with his appearance quite changed. Why not? He could have had a kidney transplant or the best private or public hospital care for all we know. Does anyone have a recemt photo of him without his beard and hair?
.
The Earth as it is can only sustain a fraction of the present human population. Under the stress caused by global warming, the planet can support even less. Sudden catastrophic changes will become the norm over the next few decades. Not every place will suffer the same, not at first. But the clock is ticking and the changes set in motion won't easily be corrected. Enjoy the ride while you can. Pity the poor, for they will feel the brunt of it.
Bin Laden- This speech appears to be a masterful work of propaganda- is Bin Laden still alive, trying to survive without a dialysis machine in the frontiers of Pakistan? Have you noticed his new, dark beard, slightly different bone structure, jet black eyebrows that look as if they were pasted on? The speech discredits the left by aligning them with Bin Laden- most of the text could have come straight off of common dreams- so he is a Chomsky fan? Attacks on corporations, etc.,etc.? Analyze the speech carefully and you will see it worthy of the best efforts of Edward Bernays (Sigmund Freud's nephew). If you disagree with their agenda, by default you in Bin Laden's camp! Anyone see the protesters on Fox tonight- really amazing-
Global Warming- it really seems to late, unless there is some kind of a miracle- not to be a pessimist but reality is far ahead of the worst predictions- enjoy this lifestyle while you can- things will change so quickly that if one is not prepared there will be little hope for survival!
Maybe bones592001 meant that global warming is caused by bull's shit. He might be severely writing impaired.
I ride my electric motor scooter - a fully street-legal Vespa-type cycle, which has replaced all local car usage, through my all-American neighborhood to looks of confusion, and even catcalls of derision. They are all completely "clueless" why I ride it.
Even Bin Laden mentioned global warming as one of the anti-human consequences of US led corporate globalization in his most recent communique. Since CD won't provide the link to the text of his speech, I will - it is here:

Unless the USA, the largest emitter of carbon pollution, seriously undertakes the meaningful measures necessary to curtail our contribution to greenhouse gasses, the less industrialized & third world nations will have no incentives to control their emissions.
This can never happen until Americans render ineffective the special interests and their supporting administrations that have prevented the necessary reforms through deception and fabricated science--albeit with the help of an apathetic populace and defaulting legislators. Contrary to their assertions, the measures to reduce carbon pollution can only improve our economy and security by reducing our oil imports while improving our health & quality of life.
By placing unlerned and corrupt individuals in the presidency over intelligent and principled candidates, those apathetic Americans deserve the worst government and environment that money can buy --ie such as Regan the great communicator to the ignorant) over Jimmy Carter; and Bush (chartered by God and oil) over Al Gore. Need I say more?
Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro says, "Let us all push for such initiatives in our countries and our communities."
I'm down with that!
My great-grandchildren won't be spitting on my gravestone if I can help it!
Jaded Prol is right. How long before we figure out that our political system is failing us. The political systems of the United States and China do not have the capacity to save us. What do we replace it with? Look to Sweden, which is actually aiming to wean itself from fossil fuels by 2020. Even if it doesn't succeed, it will achieve more than we will by 2100.
Amazing how some still have there head in the sand on this. Bones-do some research instead of listening to inuendo.
We are destroying ourselves. Wake UP!
There is no Planet B!
Those, who still debunk the consensus of the non political & dedicated international scientific community, join Bush right wing's war on science, & our planet.
Rather than pursuing even modest effort to understand the effects and consequences of mans activities they follow the deceptive data issued by the right wing and energy cartel.
Evidence linking carbon pollution to warming has long been as close to certain as science can be. Its causes, consequences, and mitigation requirements have been documented by many dedicated environmental organizations including The Union of Concerned Scientists.
The dangerous manipulation of essential scientific data used by Bush's team to conceal and derail corrective measures for this threat and other vital environmental reforms has always been apparent--and all indicators show no change in their direction.
Often overlooked is the fact that the same measures needed to mitigate global warming would be necessary even if it were not an issue. Conservation, alternative energy development, anti- pollution refinements, etc are essential for other vital environmental reforms such as air and water quality, reductions in toxic waste generation, land preservation, etc.
Contrary to right wing assertions, greenhouse gas reduction measures could only improve our economy by lessening our trade deficits, and improving our security by reducing our dependance on foreign oil. We could also regain some of our lost world respect resulting from our opposition Kyoto while arrogantly contributing disproportionally to carbon pollution.
The immeasurable environmental and social destruction from our indifference to carbon pollution and related environmental measures can only worsen if we allow this reckless and unlearned president, guided by special interests to continue their war on our planet.
One thing's for sure - we'll all learn, the way the earth is changing - in only a few years, or a decade or two - whether or not there's anything to this global warming thing with its possible dire consequences. And only fools will continue to keep their heads in the sand and call it bull shit, rather than do all they can do to prepare, just in case it really is real. After all, wouldn't it be wiser to be safe than sorry in the end. If global warming is really all it promises to be, there'll be a lot of sorry people - those poor fools who've listened to those who subvert science for monetary gain. Unfortunately, unlike those subverters the fools follow, the fools won't have the big bucks to save their sorry asses and those they've so foolishly followed won't give a shit whether the fools survive or not.
The fossil record will show the sad truth.
Dealing with this crisis on any meaningful and effective level will take a global revolution. Until we separate moneyed interests from power, we are doomed. This civilization is in its last decades and those of us who know this must start building for the post industrial world to come.
All we have to do is put a huge ice cube in the ocean, duh...
And get the pirates back. His Noodleness would agree.
You can see why rightists and the corps are sweating paranoid bullets over this one. Finally something that will ultimately compel them to be good global citizens, and they can't even spin it. But boy will they try.
