Virtual Town Hall: End the Open Secret of Insider Trading in Congress

On Tuesday, Advocates Join Sen. Merkley and Rep. Krishnamoorthi in Virtual Town Hall Calling for a Ban on Stock Transactions by Members of Congress.

WASHINGTON

WHAT: U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) will join advocates from Common Cause, CREW and Public Citizen for a virtual town hall on the need for transparency and ethics reform in congressional stock transactions.

Merkley and Krishnamoorthi recently introduced the Ban Conflicted Trading Act, which would prevent members of Congress from trading in the stock market. The bill comes on the heels of stock transactions by U.S. Sens. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.), who dumped stocks after receiving congressional briefings on the coronavirus pandemic but before the market downturn.

WHO: U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.)
U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.)
Lauren Windsor, executive director, American Family Voices
Aaron Scherb, director of legislative affairs, Common Cause
Jennifer Ahearn, policy director, CREW
