'Climate Candidate' Inslee Steps Up With New Clean Energy Plan

WASHINGTON

Today, Democratic presidential hopeful Jay Inslee released a detailed version of his climate plan, in which he commits to mobilize the federal government to achieve 100% clean power by 2035, 100% zero-emission new vehicles by 2030, and 100% zero-carbon pollution from new buildings by 2030. In response, Greenpeace Climate Campaigner Charlie Jiang said:

"Today, Jay Inslee came through on his promise to make climate change the central issue of his campaign. It's clear from the release of ambitious and detailed plans from Inslee -- and earlier this week from Beto O'Rourke -- that 2020 candidates recognize that climate change is one of the pivotal issues of the Democratic primary.

"Inslee is now the first candidate to commit to 100 percent clean power by 2035, a shift that could allow us to create millions of family-sustaining jobs and jumpstart the economy while protecting workers and vulnerable communities along the way. But no climate plan is complete without plugging the fossil fuel shaped hole that coal, oil, and gas companies are still digging. We still need Inslee -- and all candidates -- to get serious about confronting the fossil fuel industry, starting with a ban on new oil, gas, and coal leasing on public lands on day one in office.

"Climate change is now the number one issue among Democratic voters, but we still have not heard from some of the frontrunners. So, Joe Biden, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, and the rest of the field who haven't told us how you'd tackle the one of the greatest challenges facing our nation -- it's your move."
