Progressive Organizations Call on Democratic Leadership to Insist on Clean Dream Act By Year’s End
WASHINGTON - Since the Trump Administration announced its decision to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program on September 5th, more than 11,000 young people have lost their protection from deportation and their ability to work. What’s worse — each day that passes without a permanent legislative solution in place, 122 DACA recipients will lose their protections and millions more have no protections at all.
On a press call THURSDAY, December 14th at 10:30am ET, progressive leaders will highlight the importance of passing a clean Dream Act by the end of the year. Specifically, they will call on Leader Pelosi and Leader Schumer to stay true to their commitment that passage of a clean Dream Act is a priority and ensure it is included in the must-pass spending bill that Congress needs to approve by December 22. The organizations represented on the call have signed on to a joint letter signed by more than 120 organizations calling on Democratic leadership to stand with immigrant youth. The letter will be released when the call begins.

Independent journalism has become the last firewall against government and corporate lies. Yet, with frightening regularity, independent media sources are losing funding, closing down or being blacked out by Google and Facebook. Never before has independent media been more endangered. If you believe in Common Dreams, if you believe in people-powered independent media, please support us now and help us fight—with truths—against the lies that would smother our democracy. Please help keep Common Dreams alive and growing. Thank you. -- Craig Brown, Co-founder
