WASHINGTON

In response to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's reckless remarks raising the prospect of a pre-emptive military strike against North Korea, Paul Kawika Martin, senior director for policy and political affairs at Peace Action, the United States' largest grassroots peace organization, released the following statement:

"Days before the 14-year anniversary of the the Iraq War, the greatest foreign policy blunder in recent U.S. history, Secretary of State Tillerson raised the prospect of another pre-emptive war, this time with a nuclear-armed state. There's virtually no situation in which a pre-emptive strike on North Korea wouldn't lead to all out war, and if nuclear weapons were used, the consequences would dwarf those of the Iraq War. Instead, President Trump should use his so-called deal making skills to negotiate a political solution."

Peace Action is the United States' largest peace and disarmament organization with over 100,000 members and nearly 100 chapters in 34 states, works to achieve the abolition of nuclear weapons, promote government spending priorities that support human needs and encourage real security through international cooperation and human rights.
