Activist Cindy Sheehan in Dallas to Renew Anti-Bush Protests
Cindy Sheehan, the antiwar activist whose son was killed in the war on Iraq, plans to lead a protest this afternoon near former President George W. Bush's Preston Hollow home.
The march is sponsored by the Dallas Peace Center, which has been involved in protests with Sheehan since 2005, when the California mother staged a prolonged demonstration outside Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas.
"I think this is going to be the protest of the summer," Sheehan said. "It's really picking up a lot of energy."
Protesters plan to gather about 4:30 p.m. at the southwest corner of Preston Road and Royal Lane. From there, they will walk about a mile to John J. Pershing Elementary School, which is across the street from gates leading to the Bush home on Daria Place.
Organizers did not apply for a permit from the city and will be required to stay on sidewalks and not cross or impede major streets, said Trish Major, communications director for the Dallas Peace Center.
"My guess is that the neighbors would probably rather that we not be there," Major said, anticipating a cool reaction.
""But it's also important to remember this is the neighborhood that welcomed the Bushes warmly and they knew that by having a person of this stature in their neighborhood, this is something they would have to deal with."
Sheehan said people who live near the former president will be joining the march. She would not provide names.
"I'm sure most people who live there won't be happy with the protest," she said. "But we're going to be exercising our rights as Americans to do this and hopefully people who don't agree with us, and us with them, will agree that all sides have the right to express their opinion."
"There won't be any civil disobedience or anything," Major said. "There will be no climbing of the gates."

Show AllCindy didn't you see w pass the ball to the new corporate lacky Obomber? Granted, w started it and is guilty of murder and more--but how will this affect the over all situation? What can I do to help?
Uh, the point of this is...?
"There won't be any civil disobedience or anything," Major said. "There will be no climbing of the gates."
There will be nothing. Bush is not president. Obama needs to lock him up. Pressure should be put on Obama. My guess is Cindy is dealing with something emotional, and is bugging out, like we say in Crown Heights.
My dear Cindy,
If a criminal is on the loose, and the police aren't doing anything, you hold your protest at the police chief's house, not the criminals house!
I agree. Dallas is the wrong place. (So is Texas for that matter). Keep it in Washington and put the light on the International Stage as well. Never let off the pressure to prosecute. This man killed more people than Osama Bin Laden. Prison is the only place for him.
Beware the people who say "We should just move on", "There's no point in it" or "Let's put it behind us".
George W. Bush is a criminal and needs to be prosecuted for his crimes against humanity and treason against the United States. Until he is behind bars, there can be no justice for the thousands of people butchered and tortured by this monster. He will remain as a blight upon our honor as a country.
Once he has been prosecuted and imprisoned, we can begin to move forward as a nation. No progress can ever be made until justice is done. We will remain shamed and dishonored on the world stage, the laughing stock of every nation on earth.
Don't let anyone ever tell you to "forget about" bush's crimes. The only people that would say that have no personal honor, respect for themselves, or patriotism.
Even though it does make sense to take the protest to the Police Chief's house and even the White House, the reason why it makes more sense to me to protest in front of W's house is it keeps the spotlight on him, instead of letting him scamper away down his little hole into obscurity. Dick Cheney actually is doing us a favor by staying in the spotlight. He too could have slipped away into obscurity, but has chosen not to. Yes, we need to keep the pressure on Obama, but at the same time, we also need to keep the spotlight on Cheney and Bush.

Cindy is doing what she needs to do, and most of those who criticize her for doing so don't have the guts, the stamina or the sense of self-sacrifice to stand in her shadow.
Unlike most who avail themselves of the public's eye, Cindy gets nothing for this, EXCEPT, the possibility of someday securing some degree of justice and accountability within this society. And if you think all Cindy does is protest against the imbecile Bush then you have studied her website, her actions, her speeches. She is much broader-based, more analytical and more focused than most of her naysayers give her credit for.
I am 59, with damn few heroes, but Cindy Sheehan is one of my shining stars.
So you honestly don't think Cindy is making a few bucks now off of the whole issue? You are sadly deluded. Frankly, I'd like to see her 2008 1040. I was 100% behind her at first and for quite awhile, but now? Cindy. You are now tilting at windmills.

And your personal list of actions-to-date would be?
I've been an unpaid union organizer all my life.
How about you?
Have you looked at Cindy's Labor platform when she ran for Congress last year? Much better than the Bush girlfriend and protector, "impeachment's off the table" Pelosi's.
Whatever happened to EFCA, (Employee Free Choice Act), my friend? Where are the Democrats on that one? The reason why labor is going downhill is because they keep reelecting the same bunch of con artists every two or six years.
EAKTON,
Your loyalty seems to run thin. Tilting at windmills? Not hardly. This country is rapidly deteriorating, and the infrastructure is on a well-planned course toward implosion. If anything, we need more Cindy Sheehans to spread the word.
She's also written books. It does take money to survive, pay the bills, in order to keep the campaign going. What's wrong with that?
odoco,
Absolutely! You said it very well. Cindy is one of my heroes too. Thanks!
Cindy, you are now becoming tedious. Bush is an asshole. Don't you become one also. If you want to be productive go after Barky.
I think Cindy is a brave person and deserves praise and gratitude from USans for actually doing something about the things which she feels are wrong. (which is something that I can admit I fall short of doing)
With that being said I have to say that this is a PERFECT example of the problem of the leftist movements - divisiveness, and narrowness of focus.
Let me give you an example of divisiveness:
This is just the divisions of the anti-war movements in America...
(Imagine all of the other leftist movements, and then think about all of their divisions and you clearly should start to see how atomized the progressive movements have become.)

I'm sure there are many more unknown local anti-war movements... you know, "Craig, Greg and Friends of Springfield Against the War" -- which consists of 5 guys on a street corner holding up signs.
As for the example of narrowness of focus I would agree with some of the earlier posts that Cindy is protesting in the wrong place.
Why can't all of these anti-war movements join as ONE?!?!? All of these movements have mailing lists, phone numbers, and emails of the people who are against the same thing. Why don't the coordinators of these movements work together to combine their members and create one gigantic movement? Would it really be that hard to accomplish something like this? I don't know the answer... but it seems plausible.
Right now is such a grand opportunity for the left to take advantage of the tremendous amount of discontented folks and direct that energy into a constructive manner. Where is the populist movement when we need it the most?
These anti-war divisions are a perfect example of powerlessness in action...
Joining as one... now that would be POWERFUL!!!
At any rate... Good luck Cindy! Maybe someday you could use your voice in the future to rally all of these other anti-war movements to join as one... I'll join you then. Until then, good luck screaming at the gates of Bush's house.

Go Cindy! Go Cindy!!!
Keep the pressure on. Keep the focus on. Some of the above people have a point, too. Maybe after you're done shining the light on the bug in his hole, you can go to the top and turn the pressure on there, make them stop denying that the bug is still an infestation. It needs to be gathered up with the other bugs, (cheney) and (well I almost said what you normally do to bugs), but I guess we have to do what the constitution says. Put them on trial, prove our case and put them where they can't get out...
Oh, yeah, Keith Oberman, last night said like it is. He brought up the case of Boumadienne (Yeah I spelled it wrong) the guy held in Gitmo for 7 yrs and now freed. Keith explained the guys ordeal, torture and all for those 7 yrs and now set free with no charges, then mentioned that the Bush admin had been the ones to "capture" him and put him in Gitmo. Then Keith said, looking hard at the camera like he does, "and which one of these men belong in prison for 7 yrs.?"
Love it!!!
The Dallas Peace Center did what any Dallas based movement should do. Act LOCAL!
