WASHINGTON
Today, the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection voted to hold former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows in criminal contempt, in response to Meadows' refusal to comply with the panel's subpoena to appear before Congress for questioning.
Stand Up America President & Founder Sean Eldridge commented on the news of the committee's contempt vote of Meadows:
"We applaud the bipartisan select committee for doing what is necessary to hold Mark Meadows accountable for refusing to comply with the lawful subpoenas of the January 6 Committee. Just last week, the House voted to pass the Protecting Our Democracy Act, crucial legislation that would strengthen and fast-track enforcement of congressional subpoenas to more effectively hold people like Meadows accountable to the American public.
"Senate Democrats must pass the Protecting Our Democracy Act to shore up and speed up Congress's power to act as a check on the President of the United States and his advisors. Nothing--not the filibuster, not party politics--should stand in the way of ensuring no president is above the law."
