350 Action Reacts to Tuesday’s Election Results

WASHINGTON - 350 Action spokesperson Jason Kowalski issued the following reaction to the March 15th Tuesday primary results:

“This Democratic primary so far has resulted the best debate on climate action we’ve ever seen. The strong push from climate activists, combined with Bernie Sanders’ bold leadership, has helped push the Democratic establishment to adopt a ‘keep it in the ground’ approach to fossil fuels and a bold embrace of renewable energy. There’s still a long way to go, but the progress so far shows that the climate justice movement is making a major political impact.

"If Hillary Clinton is looking to unify the progressive base, she’s going to have to do more to show her commitment to taking on the fossil fuel industry. Clinton has become more progressive on climate throughout this primary, but she’s still got a ways to go. Climate activists remain concerned that many of her largest bundlers have ties to Big Oil and that she hasn’t come out against fracking. The longer we see a serious debate about who has the most ambitious climate policy, the better.

“When it comes to climate, the Republican candidates couldn’t stick their heads further in the sand if they tried. Cruz denies there’s a problem, Trump says it’s a hoax made up by the Chinese, and Kasich is trash talking clean energy. With more than two-thirds of Americans and over half of Republicans supporting climate action, these candidates are going to need to find science before November if they want any chance in the general election.”
