Free Press Applauds FCC for Releasing AT&T/T-Mobile Findings

WASHINGTON

On Tuesday, according to several reports, the Federal Communications Commission will permit AT&T to withdraw the company's application to merge with T-Mobile. However those reports indicate that the agency will also release a report on its review of the transaction and its findings.

Free Press Policy Director Matt Wood made the following statement:

"We applaud the FCC for not allowing AT&T to hide the facts of this merger from the public. The evidence in the record is damning, and we're pleased to learn that the Commission plans to release its findings. From the beginning, it has been clear that this merger would kill tens of thousands of jobs, raise prices for consumers and destroy competition in the wireless market. This announcement is just further confirmation that this deal is dead."

Free Press was created to give people a voice in the crucial decisions that shape our media. We believe that positive social change, racial justice and meaningful engagement in public life require equitable access to technology, diverse and independent ownership of media platforms, and journalism that holds leaders accountable and tells people what's actually happening in their communities.
