Biden: Impeachment if Bush Bombs Iran

by Adam Leech

PORTSMOUTH - Presidential hopeful Delaware Sen. Joe Biden stated unequivocally that he will move to impeach President Bush if he bombs Iran without first gaining congressional approval.1130 07

Biden spoke in front of a crowd of approximately 100 at a candidate forum held Thursday at Seacoast Media Group. The forum focused on the Iraq war and foreign policy. When an audience member expressed fear of a war with Iran, Biden said he does not typically engage in threats, but had no qualms about issuing a direct warning to the Oval Office.

“The president has no authority to unilaterally attack Iran, and if he does, as Foreign Relations Committee chairman, I will move to impeach,” said Biden, whose words were followed by a raucous applause from the local audience.

Biden said he is in the process of meeting with constitutional law experts to prepare a legal memorandum saying as much and intends to send it to the president.

When local resident Joel Carp asked Biden why not impeach now, given what has already been done, Biden said it was a valid point, but might not be constitutionally valid and potentially counterproductive. A case for impeachment must have clear evidence, Biden said, and blame should be directed at the right parties.

“If you’re going to impeach George Bush, you better impeach (Vice President Dick) Cheney first,” said Biden, again drawing applause.

Biden said the best deterrent to prevent pre-emptive military action in Iran is to make it clear, even if it is at the end of his final term, action will be taken against Bush to ensure “his legacy will be marred for all time.”

Biden took shots at the Bush administration’s idea to centralize government in Baghdad and called his decentralized plan the only way to political settlement. The recent decline in violence in Iraq, which some have credited to the surge, is the result of the military doing its job.

If I was not completely asleep during my civics classes I think that “impeachment” starts in the House of Representatives and not the Senate. Biden is a Senator. Should our Child-With-A-Sword attack Iran then impeachment is a moot point as the United States will be finished…

  2. un-neocon November 30th, 2007 12:21 pm

Among all the current Presidential candidates on both sides, Joe Biden has the most complete understanding of the horrendous situation Bush and Cheney have created in the Middle East!! He should free himself of all restraints of his handlers and be straight with the American people, who are looking for a real leader at this time in history!! If we don’t get a President to lead us in a new direction, we are on a downward spiral that will ruin this country as a Free and Democratic society! Break free, Joe!!

  3. Nader2000 November 30th, 2007 12:29 pm

Among all the current Democratic presidential candidates, Joe Biden is far and away the top co-conspirator with Bush and Cheney in selling the Iraq invasion to Congress, far and away the most directly responsible for that disaster. He has never apologized for or acknowledged his critical role as Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee. Biden’s August 2002 hearings on Iraq, ostensibly questioning the Bush gang’s moves toward war, in fact excluded the strongest and most credible voices against war, such as Scott Ritter, and hid the fact that Bush had already started the war with bombing and ground operations, without any authorization from Congress. Biden has blood on his fumbling hands. He has never supported self-determination for the Iraqi people, and now he wants to impose partition on the country. What an ass. He knows full well that as a senator he has no authority to initiate impeachment - that’s up to the House.

  4. Nietzsche November 30th, 2007 12:30 pm

More talk from the Democrats. Any action in the works?

  5. TheLorax November 30th, 2007 12:32 pm

The classic IF THEN statement! IF bush attacks Iran THEN…
This is nonsense. Nobody is going to impeach bush no matter what he does.
How about this statement Mr. Biden - “IF I was doing my job THEN bush would already be impeached!”
You haven’t been doing your job, you continue to fail to do your job, and you have no intention of eventually doing your job.
Your own admission says that you are willing to wait until bush has destroyed America before you will do anything. You are therefore unfit to be a Senator and certainly unfit to lead the nation.

  6. White Rose November 30th, 2007 12:33 pm

Biden is an obvious stooge. His only hope is stupidity and complacency.

  7. sammy slade November 30th, 2007 12:33 pm

‘Among all the current Presidential candidates’ … the only one actually doing anything to impeach Dick Cheney and then the President is Dennis Kucinich with his resolution HR 1234.

Judge the candidate that you will support and vote for by the actions they have taken that represent their stands and yours … this is the only way to have an electable AND worthwhile candidate!

Please read the ‘Kucinich for realists’ op-ed:

    Gee Joe,

What about the FISA conviction, the Dept of Justice firings, torture or any of the other dozen or so high crimes and misdemeanors he has already committed?

Way to get out front on the issues.

My guess is he already knows that it will the Israeli’s doing the bombing on our behalf.

  9. claudius November 30th, 2007 12:35 pm

Ok, let me get this straight. The United States’ occupation in Iraq is illegal. When someone asked Biden why not impeach Bush and Cheney now, Biden said “it may not be constitutionally valid and potentially counterproductive.” And if Bush unilaterally bombs Iran, Biden will push for impeachment. WTF????? Sorry Joe, you are an idiot and accomplice to mass genocide!

  10. SHANTI November 30th, 2007 12:43 pm

THELORAX SAID: ” IF I was doing my job THEN Bush would already be impeached “. That says it all!

  11. gavingourley November 30th, 2007 12:44 pm

    whatfools - nice catch.

  12. EveningLand November 30th, 2007 12:44 pm

All excellent points above by my fellow Common Dreamers!

What Senator Biden is saying is that he will act on impeachment when the world goes to hell, which is tantamount to not acting at all, for by then it will be too late!

Does Biden think that if Baby Bush attacks Iran, impeachment proceedings — if they can even get off the ground — against Bush will somehow stop the hostilities?

  13. Jack37 November 30th, 2007 12:48 pm

All I know is that I will never vote again for ANY Democrat in office since 2000 (except Kucinich). And it’s not that I don’t care what the consequences of that might be—It’s that so many people have died and suffered because they failed to uphold (by oath) The U.S. Constitution, period. THE DEMS ARE DONE—It’s time for us citizens to run (WITHOUT corporate whoring), convict them on their record, and get the US back on Planet Earth….

  14. Paul Bramscher November 30th, 2007 12:54 pm

I’m curious what they’ll do, if anything, to prevent the bomb from dropping in the first place.

Justice is not served by simple impeachment of one person — if the offense is the premeditated dropping of nukes on Iran and killing potentially millions to serve some madness.

  15. terremar November 30th, 2007 1:00 pm

WTF!? How about being pro-active and prevent this catastrophic event from happening in the first place? There is more than anough reason to impeach now!!!

  16. 2lyons November 30th, 2007 1:05 pm

No kidding Terremar. After a bomb is dropped it is too late. It is already too late. Impeachment proceedings should have already started - Kucinich has been trying this for some time now (yay Kucinich!). Just more postponing and pandering, more of the same.

  17. curmudgeon99 November 30th, 2007 1:06 pm

Impeach to prevent the act! Probably not.

If you contact your Reps, all you would get is a form letter with a bunch of yada, yada, yada.

As for Biden, —- you’ve all said it already.

  18. KEM PATRICK November 30th, 2007 1:07 pm

I see Senator Biden believes that if our president commits an impeachable offense, that he should be impeached.

Evidently Biden is of the mind set, that the crime must fit some specific catagory. Bush has already committed SEVERAL impeachable crimes Joe Biden, where have you been concerning those?

Why wait until Bush bombs Iran to do your sworn duty? If we bomb Iran, impeachment will be a moot issue, for as Scott Ritter pointed out on another string here, we will not survive as a nation if that happens. Get off of your soapbox and urge Congress to begin the justifiable impeachment of Bush NOW.

  19. abbybwood November 30th, 2007 1:20 pm

    Speaking of impeachment….

I happened to see this short video clip today of the MSM’s reaction to the fact that “Condi” Rice absolutely DID have advance knowledge of the 9/11 attacks in July 2001 (prior to the Presidential Briefing memo) and “brushed it off”.

Of course the Executive Director of “The 9/11 Commission”, Philip Zelikow (Condi’s good friend who co-authored a book with her!) made certain there would be no mention of this in the “official” accounting.

Add one more charge to the impeachment list. Here’s the link:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SPjZjACbRQ&feature=related

Everyone here is correct. The time for Impeachment is right now. The whole world is watching.

  20. Irish Bear November 30th, 2007 1:29 pm

“…Biden stated unequivocally that he will move to impeach President Bush if he bombs Iran without first gaining congressional approval.” Whew! Since that would never happen, I feel safe now.

“The president has no authority to unilaterally attack Iran, and if he does, as Foreign Relations Committee chairman…” my party better get a piece of the tough-on-terrorism media action.

  21. Siouxrose November 30th, 2007 1:42 pm

Could he be Bide’n his time? Could there be a strategy here?
The names of these people reads like something from a great and dastardly fiction… remember Henry with something to HYDE, and Bob born to DELAY (truth and justice), and
Old Jessie too long at the Helms, and Alan born to Span the range of fiscal Green,
and Madeleine “All Bright” on the Western front, and Oliver North by Northwest, and remember police commissioner born to make NYC SAFIR, and on and on. (I have a much longer list, but this must suffice for now.)

  22. commander_n_chimp November 30th, 2007 1:56 pm

“Biden said he is in the process of meeting with constitutional law experts to prepare a legal memorandum saying as much and intends to send it to the president.”

A clinical psychologist I know (no, he’s not my therapist) suspects Bush of having Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Justin Frank’s book “Bush on the Couch” does not use the term NPD to describe Bush, but it comes close. Unfortunately, the type of statement uttered by Biden may actually encourage Bush and his likeminded co-thugs at the White House to bomb Iran.

  23. judi November 30th, 2007 2:15 pm

Hogwash. Biden is full of it. He says they need clear evidence for impeachment. Hello! As if there isn’t plenty of evidence for impeachment from scores of illegal activities for this admistration. And Big Shot Biden says if Bush bombs Iran, he will begin impeachment( yeah right, that’s what the House does). Besides, if any Congressman says he will impeach Bush and Cheney, then you can be sure all you’re getting is lies, lies, and statistics(Mark Twain). If impeachment proceedngs begin, then Bush WILL Bomb Iran, declare Marshall Law, and stop 2008 elections. Biden and all the rest are a living example of Bush’s blackmail and all are full of hogwash.

  24. Rebel Farmer November 30th, 2007 2:55 pm

Abbybwood: Thanks for the link. I can’t believe it came out a year ago and nobody has put the pieces together. This is not 9/11 conspiracy “wingnuts” stuff. WTF is going on?

    IMPEACH NOW!!!

And Biden is full of it!

  25. Paul Bramscher November 30th, 2007 2:55 pm

I hate to put it this crudely — but is Biden waiting for one of Bush’s crimes to rise to the level of a BJ?

  26. TimKidd November 30th, 2007 3:15 pm

    Okay people…

I agree that Biden is full of it. He’s always been a pompous windbag who fancies himself a foreign policy uber-wonk. Every word that comes out of his mouth is self-aggrandizing.

Furthermore, I’m sure he made this comment merely to draw media attention and lure a few lefties over to his anemic presidential campaign.

Nevertheless, it is refreshing to see a mainstream politician talking about impeachment. As much as you all worship the ground Kucinich walks on, he is not, nor will he ever be, taken seriously by the mainstream media. He can scream about impeachment until his lungs collapse and will always be dismissed as a crank.

While Biden is many things, pompous, arrogant, verbose, abrasive, he is still an accepted member of the DC elite. When one of them suggests impeachment, however narrowly, it’s good for the impeachment movement.

And to clarify, of course the House initiates impeachment. But all Biden said was that he would “move for impeachment”. Anyone can do that. Granted, there is a Constitutional conundrum regarding a sitting Senator pushing to impeach; since, if Bush were impeached, Biden would be a juror on Bush’s trial (and thus, supposed to be impartial). Russ Feingold raised this point in the summer. Nonetheless, Biden did not misspeak by saying he’d move to impeach.

  27. karlof1 November 30th, 2007 3:51 pm

Hmm…. Bush and the Democrats are already waging war against Iran in the forms of economic “sanctions,” admitted special forces incursions into Iranian territory to gather “intel” and train “our terrorists,” and passing a resolution categorizing the Iranian Revolutionary Guards as terrorists–call it “soft” war or “cold war,” it’s still warfare AND its already been declared by Congress.

As with Iraq, we need to stop the ESCALATION of the ALREADY existing war with Iran.

  28. starofthesea November 30th, 2007 4:10 pm

SIOUXROSE—–What great name connections—-clever yet chillingly accurate. I love puns—the highest form of humor, IMO.

All previous posters—-I think it is about as clear as it can get that with the exception of Kucinich and his co-sponsors, Dems would rather protect their political “hides” ( electoral chances) than the Constitution or the planet. Complicit criminals !

We need a complete shake up of this rigged system. The Dem ledership is guilty of treason, pure and simple. The fact that they now even use the I word is because it is beginning to alarm them how many of their constituents are demanding it. They ought to be concerned. The American people are waking up and are onto their disgusting lies.

  29. drift November 30th, 2007 4:53 pm

Resolved: Biden’s a tool. But, as timkidd noted, the consensus on impeachment is beginning to shift. This may be a desparate attempt on his part to gain attention by co-opting Kucinich’s platform, but it’s still good news that another presidential hopeful is putting impeachment back on the table.

And the credit goes to Dennis. This is proof of his leadership capabilities. Even the MSM will at some point have to recognize this. This is good news, folks! There’s a ray of hope, and it’s growing stronger.

    Spread the word: http://www.dennis4president.com

  30. Golddogs November 30th, 2007 4:53 pm

” A case for impeachment must have clear evidence, Biden said, and blame should be directed at the right parties. ”

Jeeze, you’d think the Dems could find a semen spattered dress and get this over with.

  31. terryb November 30th, 2007 5:16 pm

why the hell is he waiting for bush to bomb iran. impeachment should have been started years ago. what a joke. in the end, they will all walk with no accountability.

  32. Jess November 30th, 2007 5:28 pm

    IMPEACH NOW NOT THEN.

  33. frank1569 November 30th, 2007 5:42 pm

Would big talkin Biden move to impeach if the Loonitary Decider decides to, oh, I don’t know, declare the Constitution null and void? Oh, right, done deal already. Okay - what if God tells him to illegally spy on ALL ‘mercans? Right, right, sorry. Done and done. Elimination of habeas corpus? Damn. Forgot. Did it, got a t-shirt. Lying to Congress and the rest of the world over and over and over again? Murdering and maiming a couple million innocents for resource control? Transferring our entire Treasury into the pockets of a few good friends? Deploying mercenaries on “homeland” streets? Ignoring subpoenas, court orders? Traitorously outing a CIA NOC agent?

No? No impeachment? But bombing Iran - that’s the deal breaker? Eat sh*t, Joe, and shut the f**k up while you’re at it. Your total lack of action for seven years entitle you to speak only at your retirement dinner.

  34. djan November 30th, 2007 5:45 pm

With this American government that raises war against any sovereign nation just because it thinks there could some money be made, I have come to wonder about the war in Iran. I mean, it’s hard to see where the profit lies. On the short term 200 dollar oil might seem worthwhile, but in the long run you need a market able to buy your goodies so in the end the best strategy still is controlled price explosions. So it won’t be Iran. The whole world is talking about Iran. Iran is just an urban legend. The real target lies somewhere else and I have a feeling it is called Venezuela. There is a lot of oil there, the country hardly has an army and geographically spoken it is basically Southern Gulf of Mexico. Hey, it already sounds American.

  35. SkySonja November 30th, 2007 6:15 pm

    Biden…a Kucinich wannabe?
Wait for another war before impeachment?
Just how many unjust wars equal a BJ anyway?
Keep bugging your Congress people..It is HR 333 now HR 799
HR 1234 is Kucinich again..but to end the war.

    Hey, Joe - guess what - You’re too late, too late, too late . . . . .

  37. ezeflyer November 30th, 2007 6:22 pm

When candidates want a rise in the polls they’ll sometimes state the obvious. But thanks just the same.

  38. UN-common-dreams November 30th, 2007 6:29 pm

The only real grain of comfort or joy I find in this article is the phrase:
“…whose words were followed by a raucous applause from the local audience…”

*Raucous applause* = an expression of the TRUE heart of America!
= Spontaneous exuberance being expressed by those who are sick to their very souls of the imbecilic nutjobs now “running –(read ruining)- their country”…

This was not a reaction sponsored by Murderous-Murdoch-and-Co.
This was not ‘raucous applause’ - as cultivated by the goons in the Gray House.

    No.
This was the Peoples’ response, -one born of understanding that ‘The System’ is broke, and is thoroughly rotten and corrupt, and it’s been taken over by crazed ghouls in flashy suits, and that *they* - (the be-suited US villains, -not any race of peoples wearing turbans), **are the true enemies of America!!**

I am much gladdened by The Peoples’ response.

There is certainly hope yet. It’s just a shame that this hope cannot also encompass the likes of the posturing politician *Joe Biden-his-time* ~or whatever his confounded name is!

  39. abbybwood November 30th, 2007 6:36 pm

Seriously, Biden warning Bush of impeachment if Bush takes miltary action against Iran without Congressional approval is absurdity run amok.

“High crimes and MISDEMEANORS.” Webster’s Ninth definition of “misdemeanor: 1.) a crime less serious than a felony 2.) MISDEED!!

I think it’s safe to say that major crimes have already been committed by this administration and the Congress (including Sen. Biden and his votes). Biden’s acquiescence and support of the war against Iraq is equally impeachable, in my opinion. Speaking of acquiesing, check out this video of Sen. Hillary Clinton trying to defend her vote to support a military “Shock and Awe” campaign against the innocent people of Iraq whose only “crime” was living under Saddam Hussein:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=cZcY6TGfAxE

For Biden to suggest we WAIT until Bush actually starts the conflagration (which is most likely already on hair trigger…when is the next “new moon”?), is akin to a parent having a child who is an out of control pyromaniac and saying to the child after multiple “smaller fires”, “If you keep playing with these matches laying around and burn this house down you’re gonna GET it!!!”

Of course this is the classic idle threat. A smart parent will remove the matches, get serious counseling for them and the child and watch him 24/7 until the danger of his behavior is behind them.

Obviously neither Biden, nor Clinton or any other candidate running for President has the “judgment skills” to have all the worlds’ lives in his/her hands. Sorry. The only candidate I would trust with my life is Kucinich, and for all I know he’s nothing more than a Democrat shill to let the Progressive steam off the political pot. Hey! At this point I’m feeling just a little cynical! I can just see his “repeat performance” after the primaries…standing on the stage with….Obama?? with all the happy “delegates” waving their placards.

I was feeling Ron Paul’s general message of liberty, ending the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and his obvious expertise regarding the economy and debt etc. Then last night I read his weekly newsletter and he was blathering on to his constituents in Texas about them being able to continue their “Happy Motoring” and that he would vow to open AWAR and the coasts to oil exploration etc. What happened to his “states rights” hoo-ha? Cause I can guarantee President Paul he’d have a rough time getting Californians to allow any off-shore oil drilling there! Look at the disaster that just happened in the San Francisco Bay with just a tanker accident! And never mind the problem of burning fossil fuels and global warming.

Excuse me while I decorate my tree, make some Christmas cookies, drink eggnog with LOTS of rum and listen to some soothing carols.

    Duh.

  40. dreamertoo November 30th, 2007 6:52 pm

    Joe Biden for Intern!

  41. COMarc November 30th, 2007 6:59 pm

Oh, I’m sure after Bush attacks Iran, we’d see Biden coming up with reasons why impeachment then shouldn’t be pursued after all. He’s good at it, he’s been ignoring for the last 6 years all the very valid reasons for impeachment already listed above.

Democrats, talk tough for a PR statement, especially when in a floundering campaign. Then they’ll vote Republican when in office.

  42. COMarc November 30th, 2007 7:02 pm

There’s lots of money to be made in Iran. Go read Naomi Klien’s book “The Shock Doctrine”. It doesn’t spell this out specifically, but you’ll see the pattern.

Just a for-instance. As part of an attack, we’d probably destroy the telephone networks in Iran. Then, after we control the country, the contract to ‘reconstruct’ the telephone networks would go to some Republican connected company. They’d basically steal the money assigned, and then leave announcing they weren’t able to complete their contract.

That’s happened over and over again in Iraq. Just pay attention. And read Naomi Klien’s book!

  43. COMarc November 30th, 2007 7:05 pm

Its the topic, not the politician that won’t be taken seriously in the corporate propaganda machine.

Kucinich isn’t taken seriously precisely because the positions he takes can’t be taken seriously. If Kucinich had been supporting the wars in Iraq and Iran and maybe more consoldation of the corporate media, he’d be taken very seriously.

Biden won’t be taken seriously on this topic. And if he talks too much on this sort of topic, you’d see the corporate media treating him like Kucinich.

  44. Ragdoll November 30th, 2007 7:15 pm

What about the Iranians under the Bush bombs? As their skin falls off from radioactivity far more deadly than in Hiroshima or Nagasaki will they find some comfort in last thoughts that at least Bush or Cheney may be impeached?

Remember those “bunker busters and mini-nukes” with what El Bareidei calls “cute sounding names” are far more lethal than any nuclear bombs yet exploded on the planet.

And by the way, where is that vociferous narrowly focused “Right to Life” group on this issue? Do Iranian embryos too have a right to life too? Or just American ones??? The right to be born without the horrible malformations apppearing among Iraqi newborns, consistent with malformations not seen since post Hiroshima and Nagasaki!!!

  45. weirdharold November 30th, 2007 7:22 pm

Joe has very good understanding of the sisuation in Iraq and he should be elected president. All others only have their finger in the wind.

  46. Grappa November 30th, 2007 7:26 pm

Let me see if I understand uncle Joe, We bomb the shit out of Iran then we tell Bush its not allowed. Did I miss anything.

  47. dreamertoo November 30th, 2007 7:47 pm

Ragdoll, excellent point on “Right to Life”!

Yes, weirdharold, everyone has their middle finger in the wind.

  48. thomas j hussey November 30th, 2007 8:06 pm

Nice try, Joe. I believe you’re serious, but does anyone seriously believe that this cowardly, corrupt Democrat Congress would impeach and convict the Cheney/Bush crime family even if it used nuclear weapons against Iran? Especially considering that their paymasters, AIPAC, would be opposed.

  49. rebl November 30th, 2007 8:10 pm

PORTSMOUTH - Presidential hopeful Delaware Sen. Joe Biden stated unequivocally that he will move to impeach President Bush if he bombs Iran without first gaining congressional approval.

BushCo needs to be impeached BEFORE he bombs Iran.

  50. bikerdude November 30th, 2007 8:16 pm

Why not impeach Bush/Cheney now for the crimes already committed BEFORE they bomb another country??? It is time to start the impeachment proceedings and get these people under oath, before congress and the public and make them answer the tough questions. If we don’t do this and we let these self-serving, incompetent arrogant politicians wreak even more havoc on the world, there will be no saving our world reputation. We must impeach to retain our honor.

  51. amacd November 30th, 2007 8:20 pm

    Et tu, Biden?

I really don’t care which Senator or Congressman sticks him — so long as one sticks him soon.

  52. lillulu November 30th, 2007 8:43 pm

Talk about closing the barn door after the horse has run off……..LOL

What’s with these Democrats anyway? What an impotent bunch of fools. Who do they think they’re kidding? If they were serious about this, they’d have impeached the Chimp already!

“It’s time for them (Congress) to revoke the 2001 AUMF and to tell the president that an attack on Iran would be an impeachable offense.

In fact, why wait? It’s time for them to impeach him now! This is just his latest crime in the making. And even threatening a war of aggression against a nation that doesn’t pose an immediate threat is a violation of the UN Charter, a treaty the U.S. signed years ago and is bound by.” — David Lindorff

  53. newageartist November 30th, 2007 9:30 pm

Why is it that these idiots always talk about what they’ll do AFTER the fact.

Geeze, Biden. Try doing something BEFORE it happens.

Typical playground warnings by our Democrats in Congress.

Just another reason for all of us to turn our backs on these bumbling bunch of corporate puppets.

  54. dreamertoo November 30th, 2007 10:39 pm

    Yes it is, lillulu!

Joe, what’s your plan if President Bush bombs Delaware?

    Classic Bidet (intentional misspelling).

The staggering stupidity of the idle threat is matched only by Biden’s utter disingenuity.

When Randi Rhodes asked Biden why Democrats didn’t just call Bush a liar, Biden indignantly roared “You can’t call the President of the United States a LIAR!” — demonstrating that Biden considers feudal loyalty to the king the essence of civil society.

    Biden the Bathetic Baboon.

  59. ike kay November 30th, 2007 11:59 pm

I think that Joe Biden really set off a hornets nest here. He just wants to do the legal and right thing. After all this administration has been flouting congress since the Democrats won a majority they could not use for anything but warnings.

Most democrats are what moderate republicans used to be. There is no such thing as reason at the court of Alice in Wonderland. it is time for a new congress and a new party. A three party system would not hurt and the Green Party has a platform of survival with Climate change at the top of the list that affects every issue on the table today and focuses on Wall Street which I have no doubt most of the people writing here are invested.

So lets have someone here offer some ideas for change instead of shouting Biden down. At the very least Biden did not vote for the war in Iraq. I do agree that there might be one candidate Kucinich, who rings of some truth but Biden is right on one score, trying to impeach at this late date would take the focus away from other important issues, like getting the kids a health care bill for example.

I would try to elect an entirely new Congress and vote for every candidate who has never been there and is not in the grip of power Like Bush’s press seretary. . .this woman is out of a comic strip as is her boss.

Joe Biden is intelligent and knows foreign relations, but he has never significantly challenged the conventional, i.e. morally bankrupt, view of US international policy.

  61. commonscience1 December 1st, 2007 12:37 am

Thank you above iKe Kay,,, Yet I dont see any reason if we were half of the free society our politicians claim we would have liberitarin and 4 or 5 other politcal
partes. Sadly we arent (that free ) Free masons that started this country went to great lengths to make sure tyrants wouldnt get in to corupt our values by law. It has happened. Radical Patriotism to the system and the party that supports the well being of every american will be the only restoration of the great nation we used to be. Instead of the sorry super power we have become. There is a chance we will have to refrain from leading the world in coruption do the latter.
    In short
Until american people put political reform as the top priority NOTHING will change regardless of who is in office.
Compititions is the driving force, even in democracey

    Blah, Blah, Blah…..

“I’ll move to impeach the president when hell freezes over”
    (the new DNC platform)

F*** the Democrats (I wish Kucinich were an independent!)

  64. croupier01 December 1st, 2007 2:17 am

A case for impeachment must have clear evidence, Biden said, and blame should be directed at the right parties.
Let me get this right, Joe. You’re saying that if you are a President getting a “blow job” that qualifies as sufficient evidence whereas as if you are a lying, cowardly, greedy, imperialistic, fascist President giving the American people a “snow job” in order to make a killing on the killing that is alright? Give me a break, Joe! Congress has a Constitutional duty and mandate to preserve and protect the Constitution. It is not elective perogative as you seem to suggest unless we are referring to Clinton’s BJ which made a mockery of the entire impeachment process. You impeach BEFORE bombs drop, you, nimcompoop, not AFTER!!! After thousands of innocent Iranians are dead and there is widespread catastrophic Mideast chaos, its alittle late to repair the damage. And yes, you start with Cheney! It’s not rocket science. Once again, you prove you are not fit to be President just like when you voted with the banking industry to outlaw bankruptcy for the middle class whereas corporations are immune. Grow a spine, Joe, along with the rest of your Party.

Yes, Kucinich. The only Democratic candidate who has integrity and vision for this country. Only, how come if he talks like a Green, has a platform of a Green and supports Greens…he stays a Democrat????

    Go figure.

Breaking from the corporatist Democratic Party and announcing his switch to the Green Party would open the floodgates for new blood and non-corporate agendas in Congress in 2008. If he were truly a leader for a new America, wouldn’t he do just that???

    To Lilulu:

“What’s with these Democrats anyway? What an impotent bunch of fools. Who do they think they’re kidding? If they were serious about this, they’d have impeached the Chimp already!”

Speaking of “the Chimp” check this out:

And to imagineusa: You are welcomed.

Remember to log on tonight to the HDNet streaming of the Democratic Debate in Iowa hosted by Dan Rather that will include Kucinich AND Gravel! I have a feeling this will be much different than the other “debates”. 7:30 EST

We need our own thing Folks… like the Peoples Mafia or somethin with authority.

Biden knows that Bush is just using Iran as another strawman and cannot have a shooting war with Iran…. Remember MAD? How soon we all forget that if that happens nobody is gonna be concerned with Freakin Fascism… it is just that it will finally hit you why there was a group called “The Grateful Dead”…. So Biden wants in on the Instant Hero of Saying there is only one thing Impeachable that Bush can do and that is to begin the Ending of Humanity…. Hey Big Joe, You are a real big tough Man… espeshilly when everybody knows Bush is tryin to change his lagacy to MR Peace Prez now!

Anybody out there wanna run for office?

God that video of Hillary is terrible… if she doesn’t apologize to Code Pink, She could be the person to keep the JFK cover-up goin … The Press should ask her if she was wrong… dead wrong and to use the excuse of Clinton’s War in Bosnia as the justification for the Crime of destroying Iraq is pretty Disgusting… Damn…. My prediction ain’t lookin too cool now.

  70. Saila December 1st, 2007 11:37 am

Bush has already committed several impeachable crimes. If Biden is serious, he should call NOW for impeachment, not AFTER Bush commits another crime.

  71. Saila December 1st, 2007 11:44 am

If my aunt had balls, he would become my uncle.

  72. MaddyG December 1st, 2007 12:11 pm

Bush and Cheney should have been impeached years ago. Waiting until we bomb Iran and THEN beginning impeachment proceedings is ludicrous. Once the bombing has started, they’re going to put this country on “lock down” and there won’t be any dissent because they’re going to impose martial law. That’s their next step. Look at the timing: Ritter says around April, 2008. That’s 7 months before the supposed election. They’re going to find a reason for martial law and then the elections will be either “postponed” or just not happen. The dems are collaborators and enablers all the way. Except maybe for Kucinich

  73. claudius December 1st, 2007 2:24 pm

    Jim Glover,

I am considering running for political office in the U.S House of Reps. in 2012. I still am in the process of working out a few details. If I get elected I eventually will run for U.S. Senate and Vice-President.

  74. Caelidh December 1st, 2007 2:33 pm

Oh… so AFTER Cheney bombs Iran and thousands of people are killed or injured will he iMpeach.

The overwhelming evidence for Iaaq isn’t enough for him???

    Gee. It is like..

Okay.. that mass murderer is on the loose.. we have the arrest warrant and we are not afraid to use it if he kills one more person again….

    Stupid cowardly logic

    KUCINICH!!!!

  75. onlooker December 1st, 2007 3:10 pm

Thanks for nothing, senator Biden. Why not impeach Bush quickly, so that he CAN’T mount an attack on Iran?

  76. gesneri December 1st, 2007 5:59 pm

Since Congress will undoubtedly approve the bombing of Iran when the time comes, Sen. Biden’s statement is meaningless.

  77. Vet_SK December 1st, 2007 6:27 pm

We’re in such a mess now. Hillary Clinton may well get the nomination and she is fully culpable in the mess were in now. I hope for a cell in Spandau Prison for her right next to Bush. Now we are told she is acting Presidential after she made comments after her hostage crisis. Cripe! She voted to give Bush some authority to bomb Iran.

I am not sure if there is a United States to save. 9.2 Trillion dollars in debt, we torture people on an island off the coast of the United States, we invade sovereign countries under fully false pretenses, and we threaten others (Iran) with full destruction for their words. Then the people elect a new Congress and nothing changes.

We have no say. It is all just a shell game. Once in a while the White House and the Congress agree to disagree on something and make a big deal about – making it a red meat for the people feeling as though something will change when it won’t.

But since we live in a police state, there is little we can do. They’ll just pick us up and throw us to the wolves like the Nazi’s did to anyone who did not agree with them.

Is there anything that can give us hope. Biden saying that he will call on Nancy Pelosi to impeach Bush after he bombs Iran gives me no hope.

  78. JH December 1st, 2007 7:44 pm

Easy for Biden to say now. He needs to make this assertion during congressional session, not just while stumping for votes. I’ll believe he means it only if he puts it out there to Bush publicly and in his official capacity as a senator. And while we’re on the subject of impeachment, a Vermont citizen, John Nirenberg is beginning a pilgrimage to Nancy Pelosi’s office in Washington, DC. On his walk, he will be wearing a sandwich board with words to the effect of “save our constitution” and “impeach Bush/Cheney”. This is an AP story which you’ll find here on CD.

  79. dreamertoo December 1st, 2007 9:22 pm

Quick Joe, do something, the bunker busters are over Wilmington!

  80. Gyro December 2nd, 2007 12:43 pm

How about Preemptive Impeachment? We can find the lost evidence later….

  81. jaden December 2nd, 2007 2:48 pm

Common and realistic dreams can come true; unrealistic dreams can’t. (I’m not going to dance with the Bolshoi Ballet any time soon.) Just ask the Naderites. If they’d been realistic in 2000 and 2004, none of this would be happening now. In order to impeach, there has to be either unquestionable and irrefutable evidence or a large majority in the House and Senate. None of that is REALISTICALLY present right now. The threat of impeachment and the threat of a marred legacy is enough to keep Bush from completing the distruction of America and the world. Biden has maturity, position, and power to follow through and Bush knows it. With Biden and Kucinich acting together, Bush and Cheney will end up in prison and they must know it. However, Israel doing it is something else that needs to be addressed and stopped.

  82. KEM PATRICK December 2nd, 2007 3:21 pm

I disagree JADEN. Biden’s threat is not credible and Bush would not fear his feeble threat. The evidence of impeachable acts already commited by both Bush and Cheney are undeniable and Biden isn’t sayng a word about those. Bush already had permission from Congress to attack Iran anyway.

  83. Spike December 2nd, 2007 3:26 pm

Maybe Biden will attempt to bring the articles of impeachment if the ciminals in Washington start an illegal war in Iraq, also.

Simply bluster. Does one say “Excuse me”, before or after one burps?

  84. joneden December 2nd, 2007 3:51 pm

How could all of those good Germans have let it happen? I think we understand now!

  85. rip December 2nd, 2007 9:03 pm

Why would anybody in either house think impeachment when they cannot do the job they were given. Both houses are full of liers, cheats and persons that have sold their soul to the highest bidder and that isn’t the American people. It’s just blabber from Biden, that’s all any of them can do. Besides, Cheney is the worst of the crooks in the white house.

  86. jaden December 2nd, 2007 11:08 pm

If you think the time for impeachment is already here, how many rallies have you coordinated to get Congress moving? What have you done to make it happen besides adding your opinion to these forums that only a few people will ever read? You know that old cliche “preaching to the choir”? If you think the destruction of America is eminent, what are you doing to save your nation? Don’t blame Congress alone. How many letters have you written? How many phone calls have you made telling them what you want them to do? The complacency and apathy of the American people is just as much to blame. How the hell did those two incompetents get re-elected?! Get the word out to the masses where it will do some good. At least Biden is talking about it. That’s a lot more than most are doing. Besides Kucinich, who else is doing anything about it? Stop complaining and do something!

  87. KEM PATRICK December 3rd, 2007 3:07 am

Okay, tell us exactly what you have done, and or, are presently doing, and have your efforts made an impact and done any good.
We need your advice on this if what you do works. BTW, do you criticize yourself for blogging here, __ or just the choir?

Anyway, none of that or what you just wrote, has anything to do with Biden running his big mouth for nothing but exposure.

  88. InjunTrouble December 3rd, 2007 12:21 pm

This is the problem with most Democrats. They want to wait till the horse leaves the stable before closing the door.

We need to start impeachment proceedings against Cheney NOW, to prevent him from starting a war in Iran. Fighting the impeachment will keep him too busy to promote another war. We can not afford to wait till the bombing has started to proceed with impeachment. What good would that do? - Bush/Cheney term will have almost ended by then. However, like the war in Iraq, a war once started in Iran will be very difficult to stop or even contain.

When will the Democrats learn to act rather than wait for this dangerous, but stupid administration to act first?

  89. jaden December 3rd, 2007 3:48 pm

I’m not the one critizing Biden. He has done more than most. Have you really been paying attention?! I talk to my Congresswoman’s office so much that they know who I am. I make phone calls to my Senators’ offices and write letters to their local and Washington offices. One letter specifically asked them to impeach Cheney for manslaughter for willful disregard of the many thousands of deaths his arrogant lies have caused. Of course the replies stated that that action would be too disruptive during a time of war in an already polarized country. I write letters to the White House. I email all the people I know with information about important developments and tell them to stay up on the news and get it from everywhere, and if they don’t, please don’t vote. No, critizing myself for blogging isn’t necessary because it’s not the only thing I do. My efforts have informed people who otherwise wouldn’t know the seriousness about what’s going on. And the effort is worthwhile; the results are cumulative. If more people took action, more would be accomplished, and maybe, at least Cheney would get what he deserves for all the lives he’s ruined. What are you doing besides blogging with the choir?
