Chaos in Wisconsin Demonstrates Why Congress Must Fund Vote-By-Mail

Lawmakers Must Provide $2 Billion To Fully Fund Measures That Protect Voters Amid Pandemic

WASHINGTON

After Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced he wanted to postpone Tuesday's election and called state lawmakers into a special session to take up legislation, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

"Voters should not be forced to choose between their health and their right to cast their ballot--and that's exactly what's happening in Wisconsin right now.

"Congress needs to step up to help states like Wisconsin avoid this kind of chaos by fully funding efforts to secure our elections through vote-by-mail and no-excuse absentee ballots. We're running out of time to get this right and federal lawmakers must do their jobs to protect our democracy from the coronavirus--and that means providing at least $2 billion to assist states with administering their elections."

In March, Stand Up America launched a national campaign demanding that Congress provide at least $2 billion in election assistance funding for states to ensure that Americans can safely vote amid the pandemic.

Stand Up America is a progressive advocacy organization with over two million community members across the country. Focused on grassroots advocacy to strengthen our democracy and oppose Trump's corrupt agenda, Stand Up America has driven over 600,000 phone calls to Congress and mobilized tens of thousands of protestors across the country.
