TEHRAN - Iran test-fired nine missiles today and warned the United States and Israel it was ready to retaliate if they attacked the Islamic Republic over its disputed nuclear projects.
Washington, which says Iran seeks atomic bombs, told Tehran to halt further tests if it wanted the world to trust it. Iran, the world's fourth largest oil producer, insists its nuclear programme aims only at generating electricity.
Rising tensions have rattled financial markets. Oil prices, which had slipped from record highs, rebounded about $2 a barrel after today's tests.
Speculation that Israel could strike Iran has mounted since its air force staged an exercise last month that US officials said involved 100 aircraft. The United States has not ruled out military action if diplomacy fails to resolve the nuclear row.
"We warn the enemies who intend to threaten us with military exercises and empty psychological operations that our hand will always be on the trigger and our missiles will always be ready to launch," Revolutionary Guards air force commander Hossein Salami said, according to ISNA news agency.
In televised comments, he said thousands of missiles were ready to be fired at "specific and pre-determined targets". Missiles were shown soaring from desert launchpads, leaving long vapour trails.
Iran should "refrain from further missile tests if they truly seek to gain the trust of the world," White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice suggested the tests justified an American missile shield plan with bases in eastern Europe that Russia strongly opposes.
"Those who say that there is no Iranian threat against which to be building missile defences perhaps ought to talk to the Iranians about ... the range of the missiles that they test fired," Rice said in Bulgaria.
Russia, which has resisted US calls for tougher UN sanctions on Iran, nevertheless says it shares concerns about Tehran's nuclear programme. It responded to an Iranian rocket test in February by questioning Tehran's motives.
Italy joined criticism of Iran's latest missile tests.
"These are very dangerous missiles - that's why the international community and not just Israel has an interest in blocking this escalation in a definitive way," Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said in Ramallah, in the West Bank.
Iran's State Press TV said the "highly advanced" missiles tested by the Guards included a "new" Shahab 3 missile, which officials have said could reach targets 1,250 miles away. Iran has said Israel and US bases are in its range.
Some US facilities across the Gulf are little more than 200 km from Iran's coast, putting them well within range of Iranian missiles, even if analysts question their accuracy.
The United States also has forces based in nearby Arab states, including Qatar and Bahrain, along with ships patrolling the Gulf waterway.
Iran has said US forces are vulnerable because of their presence in two of its neighbours, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Israel, believed to be the Middle East's only nuclear-armed power, has vowed to prevent Iran from acquiring an atomic bomb.
"Israel does not threaten Iran, but the Iranian nuclear programme, combined with their aggressive ballistic missile programme, is a matter of grave concern," Mark Regev, spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, said after the tests.
Leaders of the Group of Eight rich countries voiced serious concern yesterday at the proliferation risks posed by Iran's nuclear work. World powers have offered Iran incentives if it will suspend uranium enrichment. Tehran has rejected the demand.
Iran has threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, conduit for about 40 per cent of globally traded oil, if it is attacked. The US military says it will prevent any such action.
An aide to Iran's Supreme Leader was quoted as saying yesterday that his country would hit Tel Aviv, US shipping in the Gulf and US interests in reply to any military strike.

Apparently you missed the part of my post where my Iranian-American (I can say that he is a naturalized American) neighbor and friend cringes in fear for his friends and relatives still in Iran whenever Ahmadinejad speaks.
I don't hate Iran OR the people only the religiously fanatical government.
Most of those who post here not only hate the US government, but also the US and especially the jews and love the Iranian government no matter what they do even starting a nuclear war. If you did not pick that up in their posts than you are blind.
"What a bunch of Jew hating, US hating, Iran lovin fucken blind morons are posting here."
As opposed to a bunch of Iran-hating, US loving, Jew-lovin f**** morons?
Seems like there is enough insanity go around, doesn't there?
For that matter how do we even know if the missile tests took place. I mean this could easily be a wag the dog scenario. Media clips and photo/video editing software is not hard to come by. Press reports can be faked. Web sites, even those from the Iranian govt are on servers which are probably in Europe or the US and thus can be altered. Beware of the tweakers faking us to war
miftin, If you had carefully read wolf123's comment, you might have noticed that he never said that they did. Now who is the illiterate stupid ass?
Iranian warships aren't floating off the North Carolina coast and the Iranians aren't sending terrorist groups into Columbus, Ohio to blow up bridges, you stupid ass.
What a bunch of jew hating, US hating, Iran lovin fucken blind morons are posting here.

RAFSANJANI SAYS MUSLIMS SHOULD USE NUCLEAR WEAPON AGAINST ISRAEL
TEHRAN 14 Dec. (IPS) One of Iran's most influential ruling cleric called Friday on the Muslim states to use nuclear weapon against Israel, assuring them that while such an attack would annihilate Israel, it would cost them "damages only".
"It seems that Mr. Hashemi-Rafsanjani is forgetting that due to the present intertwinement of Israel and Palestine, the destruction of the Jewish State would also means the mass killing of Palestinian population as well", observed one Iranian commentator.
This report is a few years old BUT Rafsanjani ha NEVER repudiated his statement and Ahmadinejad echoes it as often as he can. HOW DID YOU JEW HATING, US HATING BLIND MORONS MISS THAT ONE??? I guess NONE of you watch Al Jazeera. Pity you just might get an education.
"If Iran wants to turn to the production of nuclear weapons, it must leave the NPT, expel the IAEA inspectors, and then it would need at least, considering the number of centrifuges and the quantity of uranium Iran has…It would need at least six months to one year," ElBaradei said.") AND ALL OF YOU ARE SAYING IRAN IS NOT TRYING TO MAKE A NUCLEAR BOMB!! ElBaradei JUST ADMITTED THEY ARE!!!
Hum, Ahmadinejad a religious fanatic (who doesn't care if he or his country die), will have a few nuclear bombs in 6 mos. to a year and only 2 years till the Mahdi crawls out of the well). I would bet a nuclear winter trumps global warming any day.
Ahmadinejad is close to the messianic Hojjatieh Society, which is governed by the conviction that the 12th Imam's return will be hastened by "the creation of chaos on Earth." He has fired Iran's most experienced diplomats and scores of other officials, presumably those who don't share his belief in apocalyptic conflagration.
Ahmadinejad is a religious fanatic far, far worse than all of you political fanatics put together.
Now Israel has no missiles that can reach Iran, it's jet fighters can barely get to the Iranian border and back, as far as I know (someone posting here might know) Israel has NEVER said it wanted Iran wiped off the face of the map something Ahmadinejad has often said, (a friend of mine is Iranian and speaks Farsi, whenever he hears Ahmadinejad give a speech I can see how pained he is for his former countrymen, as he puts it Ahmadinejad is a mad man who says what he means and means what he says). He wants a nuclear war, those who can't see this are PC correct blind morons.
Iran with one of the largest oil and natural gas reserves, has the ability to use massive wind and solar electrical generating capacity is building a nuclear power station (one that CAN as opposed to one that can not produce plutonium) which will have to be decommissioned many decades before they run out of oil or gas. WHY?
Ever since they invaded and captured the US embassy and its staff (under international law an act of war against the US) which that pis-ant jimmy carter did NOTHING about. They fund just about every islamic terrorist organization on the planet and they wonder why only the terrorists like them and every one else hates them or fears them.
I as well as my Iranian-American friend are quite sure there will be a nuclear war in about 2 years and it will start with a Shahab 3 missile hitting Israel.
mastershake July 9th, 2008 1:58 pm
Iran's State Press TV said the "highly advanced" missiles tested by the Guards included a "new" Shahab 3 missile, which officials have said could reach targets 1,250 miles away.
That's 450 miles further than a typical tomahawk cruise missile. But you could be right about the cruise missle.
Jan: "The trouble is too many people have been subjected to BS stories of how bad and dangerous Iran's regime is. I know people who consider themselves "Progressive" who are more against Iran than Israel because in their view Israel is more "Progressive" and "democratic" and "better for women and gays" than Iran is."
Jan, Israel is more progressive and democratic than Iran. And Israel is a better place for women and gays. I fail to see why you, of all people chose to put that in quotes.

http://images.google.ca/images?um=1&hl=en&q=Iran+stonning
Never forget the saga of the missing cruise missile. That's a black op in the making if I ever saw one.
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread302187/pg1
I listened recently to a tape made by a bunch of NeoCons at a luncheon for one of Bu$h's cronies. It got released by a FOIA request. There were lots of "This is really off the record" comments, met by laughter. One comment was, "We need another 9-11 to suck the people in." This was followed by laughter and comments in the background like, "Yeah, it sure did the trick last time," etc.
Well, if person or persons unknown now have a nuclear cruise missile, we definitely have a black op in the making. And, they are right. If Bu$hCo blew up say a liberal American city, or sank one of our carriers, and screamed Iran, we would back a massive nuclear attack without even questioning it.
When I think of Bu$hCO, I think back to the final scenes of Kubrick's "Doctor Strangelove," where, as the world is finally facing destruction, Peter Sellars as the Dr. struggles to his feet from his wheelchair, throws out his arm in the Nazi salute and screams, "Ach, mein fuehrer, I can walk!"
"Uh- oh. Looks like those Shehabs might not have worked as well as we thought they would. Oh well (sound of inhalations), just dust off the old Photoshop and stick an extra missile or so in there for the propaganda shots...
There we go, good as new."
http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/10/in-an-iranian-image-a-missil...
Now they speak of sanctions against Iran. They say that to stop them, Iran will have to become completely transparent about its 'nuclear' program, yada, yada, yada. I'm betting Iran is too smart to fall for that ruse, seeing what happened to Iraq: they attacked Iraq anyway, claiming they were not transparent enough!
The way I see it, the only choice we're leaving Iran is to set up an alliance with Russia, China and whoever else wishes to participate. Ultimately, this will mean even higher gas prices in the US. Ironically, Iran standing strong is not unlike England standing strong against the Nazi invasion. The difference is that today the corporate propaganda machine is much more sophisticated, and much better at bamboozling the majority here. However, disguising the motive of our actions will not change the outcome of the same. Whether we realize it or not, ignorance will not absolve us for the consequence of our actions.
Jan- the latest sorties by over 100 Israeli jets, were not covered by the mainstream news media, easily available to all the people.
I was aware of them immediately, because I look for news from various sources. The news did make BBC and Daily Mail online news on 20th June.
The point I was trying to make, was that most British people are being made very aware of anything Iran does (and it is always painted in a bad light), but when Israel does anything, it is treated differently. Most British people do not know about the Israeli air force manouevres.
Gail- Iran doesn't have to use it's navy, composed mostly of shore patrol boats to disable the 'mighty' US navy.
It has a huge stockpile of anti-ship missiles, mostly Russian 'Sunburns' and French 'Exocets'. And they are on mobile launchers. The missiles will be traveling at Mach 2+, which, in the narrow Straights of Hormuz, will give the US sailors about three (3) seconds warning before impact and detonation.
And the Iranians will not just be shooting at the US aircraft carriers. they will be aiming at the fat, wallowing oil tankers too.
Their announced intent is to CLOSE the Straights of Hormuz. That will END, nearly permanently, the shipment of oil to the West using that route.
At the same time a US/Israeli attack will ignite the long smoldering powder-keg that is the Middle East.
Think gas and food prices are high now?
You ain't seen NOTHIN' yet.

"THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING ABOUT ISRAEL'S MASSIVE AIR DISPLAY."
Surely everyone heard or read about those 100 Israeli Jets flying to Greece, and the Israeli official saying it was preparation for an attack on Iran. Do people really have memories less than a week or so long? I doubt it.
The trouble is too many people have been subjected to BS stories of how bad and dangerous Iran's regime is. I know people who consider themselves "Progressive" who are more against Iran than Israel because in their view Israel is more "Progressive" and "democratic" and "better for women and gays" than Iran is. They forget that there is no worse suffering than what comes with war. And military aggression is never justified because of lifestyle differences.
As they must know how much weaker Iran really is compared with them, Israeli leaders should be ashamed of themselves for deliberately whipping up such anti Iran hysteria and fear.
Every war turns out in ways never expected. So the arrogance and over confidence of Israel's military leaders could end up costing them a lot in the end. For Israel it would be: "Short-term gain; long-term PAIN".
For Iran: "Short-term pain; long-term GAIN".

"I weep for Iran."
I too weep for Iran.
There will be interdiction of shipping increasing the pressure quietly but surely until some small slip by an Iranian field officer will be used as the excuse to give it to them.
The US probably already has plans to capture the area around the Strait of Hormuz to "keep international waters open". The British and US have a history of controlling strategic bottlenecks.
If Iran does not lash out at the ever tightening siege on their country, the US or Israel will stage something supposedly done by the Iranians. Then they will get the mainstream media to propagandise how the Iranians started it. Who could say who started it at the actual trigger point? It would be Iran's word against the US or Israel's. And the propaganda ground work has been coming for a long while now so the West will once again look like the "Good Guys" to many of their own people. The others who don't believe them will hate them more than ever. Such ever increasing polarisation could lead to anything in the future.
.
Civil behavior - I feel exactly the same as you, and I dare say, there are many others like us. The problem, is that the majority are not aware of the one sided reporting of these issues, they see Iran as evil, because they only see/hear the mainstream media. The latest missile tests by Iran were reported on all of our main channels, and in newspapers.
THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING ABOUT ISRAEL'S MASSIVE AIR DISPLAY.
Sorry for shouting, but everything is wrong, everything is geared up for a strike against Iran. The public are being prepared
Israel may be GOD's chosen people but they are the thorn in the worlds side. A law dissallowing any member of any of the three branches of government to hold duel citizenship with Israel or any other country would go a long way toward a more peacefull world. Any government official should hold ONLY America's interest at heart! Check out a few of our top officials and you will see the problem.
There is a lot of irony here. Think what a great routine Monty Python could of made of this? The bully's side-kick flexs his muscles and says he can beat up a neighbor, the scrappy neighbor flexs his scrawny muscles and says he can fight back, and then the bully steps in to self-righteously declare that the neighbor has just proved why he needs to be beat up, and if he should lift a finger in his defense, the bully will finish the job.
Is there any room for a "sleeping" parrot in there somewhere? With a bush mask on, maybe?
The bottom line is that our likudnik ruling class is out of control. Unless they are put back in their cage they will precipitate WWW III.
These criminals could not care less about the goym.

The USA and Israel are on the same mission. Racism on a world level. Isn't that what Hitler did?
"Washington, which says Iran seeks atomic bombs, told Tehran to halt further tests if it wanted the world to trust it."
The axis of evil today is the US/UK/Israel. The axis agenda is not the world's agenda. The axis doesn't speak for the world. The axis is trying to twist reality with its "superpower" grip but its influence is only an illusion.
Why doesn't Iran just say they have a right to defend themselves like everyone else, but unlike everyone else, their next door neighbors were sent back to the 19th century because of claimed "bad inteligence", or have they and no one will print it?
This is the worst spin I have ever seen. They will never out gun even Israel and any attack would only be mutually assured destruction, if they ever even got nukes, which even our government says they don't even have, so this is all defense.
Don't forget us Australians. We will bit them on the ankles.
Wasn't that Great American Icon-of-Equality, Samuel Colt, ever permitted to obtain a passport?
I guess you can't blame the Pakistani for engaging in "Free Trade."
We should change the acronym from -
MIC (Military-Industrial-Complex) to -
MIMIC (Military-Industrial-Media-Infotainment-Complex),
as MIMIC is much more desciptive in both contexts.
Start using the new acronym - MIMIC

" abbybwood July 9th, 2008 6:53 pm
Thanks to Halliburton!
..."
The Project Censored article abbywood linked to is important, definitely provides very, very, ... important information. However, to say 'Thanks to Halliburton!', inferring that in the event the U.S. wars on Iran, is a sad misunderstanding of the information Jason Leopold provided. I don't know if it's from his own writing, or from the faculty evaluator and/or student researchers at PC and who evaluated Leopold's article; however, the piece there does literally say very much the same thing as 'thanks to Halliburton' if war is launched on Iran due to it's nuclear program(s).
Quote: "If the U.S. ends up engaged in a war with Iran in the future, Cheney and Halliburton will bear the brunt of the blame."
Firstly, I don't know who'll be seeing to making sure that Cheney and Halliburton "bear the brunt of the blame, for the U.S. Congress and Senate evidently don't care enough to see to this.
Secondly, Iran still is within its legal and ethical rights, and this applies even if Iran developed nuclear weapons. The U.S., EU, and UN have no moral and legal basing to be able to dictate to Iran that it can't develop nuclear weapons, for the U.S., EU and UN all allow Israel to be illegally and very nuclear-armed. Also, Iran developing nuclear weapons, if Iran is doing or has done this, does not make Iran terrorist any more than the U.S., EU, and the UNSC [are]. Iow, they are wholly hegemonic and hypocritical towards Iran, and there are NO laws whatsoever that make this manner of politics a right; it's entirely criminal, rogue, terrorist, etcetera.
The PC article says that Iran was developing nuclear weapons with this Cheney and Halliburton assistance at major profit; however, the CIA, along with other U.S. intelligence agencies or forces, how ever they are all called, produced a N.I.E. stating that they had no evidence whatsoever showing that Iran worked on developing nuclear weapons since 2003 or earlier. And the IAEA has conducted many inspections since and always finds nothing in terms of development of nuclear weapons. Centrifuges were found, plenty of them, but it's been well reported that these are not sufficient centrifuges for the development of nuclear weapons. I think it's the IAEA from which it was reported that Iran had stopped working on developing nuclear weapons long before the year stated in the U.S. NIE presented to the Bush administration I believe last year.
The article at PC speaks of Iran as a terrorist state, yet it's not one. The MEK in Iran and which is criminal vis-a-vis the Iranian govt, which is not holy, but which also is not terrorist, while the MEK is; well, the MEK covertly works with and for the USA, its CIA. See the Seymour Hersh article which someone posted a link for further above and which I subsequently posted a link for an audio interview with Hersh about. He and others have well written enough on the covert MEK-U.S. operations.
That covert relationship, and others around planet Earth and with the USA (covertly, always), also is very much understandable based on what John Perkins, author of 'Confessions of an Economic Hit Man', has written about and stated in an interview with DemocracyNow.org earlier this year. And there are plenty of other people, very good analysts, who've written also plentifully on these types of covert ops that the U.S. conducts and for .... Look up the interview with John Perkins for starters; it's a good way to start, and is a very simple Web search, using his name and Dem. Now!'s domain name or url.
If war is launched on Iran, then it will be the U.S. govt, and the govts of the EU and Israel that will be the criminals and hellbent wrong. Cheney and Halliburton may get the 'brunt of the blame', but it'd be scapegoating them; although their criminality certainly should not be ignored. They should pay for their crimes, but it won't be because they sold nuclear anything to Iran that the war is launched. It'll be because the govts of the U.S., EU and Israel are hellbent criminal, rogue, terrorist, ... that the war would actually be launched. After all, they're unceasing threats against Iran over nuclear bla bla bla is already a HIGH crime. After all, they're threatening war and potentially very damaging economic sanctions and this is very, very criminal to do when these parties have NO legal and ethical authority vis-a-vis Iran to any degree whatsoever.
I don't know if it's Leopold or PC that is saying Iran is a terrorist state, for it's not one; certainly not when compared to the U.S., too many European countries, NATO, and so on, anyway.
To read only that important PC article is NOT a good idea at all; it's a very bad idea. Better is to read the article by Seymour Hersh and to look for others, by other people, on the covert, U.S., CIA, ... relationship with the MEK, as well as with terrorist groups in other Asian countries, and still more, others. Also of value may be articles in which it's been reported that the U.S., some corporation(s), sold nuclear tech. to Iran during the I believe 1970s, when the leader was one the U.S. ruling elites liked, some despotic dictator. Read that information and then the PC article will be more understandable in terms of what it says, what it evidently mistakenly says, and for much that it does not say.
It's an important article and the crimes of Cheney and Halliburton described in the article, and which it says many U.S. govt agencies have long enough known about, should be addressed in courts of law; but the article can be also and dangerously misunderstood.
Iran currently has a fairly low percentage of heroin addicts. This is all about market penetration.
As Presidential hopeful Obama and appeaser of AIPAC Obama and redact the Fourth Amendment Obama sits and is as ever being touted as being this or that because if only why not because it is, WHY do people act as if he has not changed every thing he said he was or WAS NOT going to do?
Does someone want to buy my house? I am outta' here, as soon as I unload the white elephant I am done with this country, there is nothing recognizable to me any longer.
Obama made some bullshit statement about the threat called Iran. Insists the Iranians must change their "Behavior", what? When was the last time the Persians attacked anyone? Israel flys indimidation missions, that's okey dokey, Iran shows strength and refusal to submit to threats and they are the Big Bad Terrorist Nation called IRAN.
I can hardly read any more of this from very enlightened individuals as my fellow Common Dreamers are because this whole freakin nation has blown its cork.

Didn't I just hear this morning on NPR that many Italians are pissed off because their Dictator (the wealthiest man in Italy) is pushing the same type of NAZI shit that our beloved Senate just passed today .Only difference it was he ( the President) that will receive the immunity for past CRIMES.
Then at my fathers house (I don't have TV) I heard the girl on Keith Oberman giving the sheeple the news that Obomba and McBOMBIRAN did or didn't name Irans Army "Terrorists"
Isn't that the same thing as another country calling our Rangers, or Navy Seals "Terrorists?
Isn't That the story?
On NPR they mentioned Israels 100 fighter jet last month as "deterrent"
but when Iran shows that they intend to DEFEND them selves they are labeled "provocative"
Are we gonna figure out how to get the leash back on this CRIMINAL
Government or just allow them to destroy the fucking planet?
Just wondering.

For those who have not been paying attention, read what Seymour Hersh is reporting."
There's an audio interview with him and apparently also of July 7th. It, according to what apparently is an excerpt transcription of what is said in the interview includes the article Jaded Prole linked to. I loaded the page for the audio and it this indicated a 44-minute interview, although I haven't listened to it and would prefer to find a copy to download, or will need to listen to it later a night when there's less usage of telephone lines or systems. So the recording perhaps contains some ad space or time.

Plenty of articles that've been posted at Global Research over the past year or so provide some seriously detailed information on the military tech. Iran has. See my first post, above, for some articles to search for at GR, where additional searches may be needed for more details on Iran's military tech.
There's no point in going on with bla bla questioning when the information has been provided for a year or more and available online. For "conventional" weapons, Iran has MUCH. And it may have defence allies if and when Iran is struck by the U.S. and/or Israel. Plenty of info. at GR on all of this.

Quoting from the following article — ...
entitled,
"Obama's Swing to Right Sparks Warnings From 'Left Backers'""
NOT ONLY that, although I didn't read what wsws.org quoted from the article and will instead read the whole; but people should NEVER forget that Obama always voted for authorising a LOT MORE FUNDING for the war on Iraq. Oh, he can try to weasel his way out of fault for that, but that's to be a weasel, con, ..., for there NEVER was any acceptability in authorising the funding for anything other than totally withdrawing the U.S. and abandoning the major embassy that the U.S. has no right whatsoever to possess, never having had any right to develop or construct it and to additionally claim that it's the USA's embassy, which Obama has clearly stated that he will maintain if and when elected President, which in turn means that he'll additionally maintain the U.S. military bases and forces there.
Obama pledged an oath to AIPAC on June 4th and that he'll never allow Iran to develop nuclear ..., which the USA and Europe have no legal and ethical say about to any degree whatsoever.
He has therefore promised to maintain WAR-Presidency U.S. govt. Let him try to argue the contrary; it will only be more of his [lies]. He can't weasel out of this; only, dumb citizens may think that he can, or if not think, then will say that he can. He [can not]! The proof is plentiful and all against him. His words of opposition to attacking Iraq and stated only during 2002 are meaning[less] today; he's proven that those words have no merit whatsoever, ever since he was elected to the Senate.
Also, he surely knows and knew that the U.S. govt is NOT really governed [by the people], voters, but by the hidden hands of the real ruling elites, and that they were not going to see to preventing the war on Iraq. MOST of his electoral supporters always try to find excuses to NOT pay critical attention to what he's really [proven] ever since election to the Senate; always baby-fashioned referring to his worthless words of opposition to the war on Iraq during 2002, when he was in no political seat and therefore had no ability at all to place any related political votes on authorisation for war.
From a relatively recent article I read, he's not taking govt money for his political campaign; and he doesn't need it. Why? Because he's funded by the rich and is advised by them. His chief adviser is war criminal, and criminal in other terms, as well as liar, con, ... Zbigniew Brzezinski. There's plenty of information from good analysts on him and he's Obama's chief campaign adviser?!
Obama doesn't need your money, but he'll take it while using this to let you misbelieve that he's worthy of election, political office. He's proven that he is definitely unworthy.
Ever hear the expression, 'MISPLACED HOPE'?!
Does it really shock anyone that Iran would respond in such a way after so many threats have been made against it? One wonders why they did not do so sooner. America seems hell bent on economic suicide, and maybe even risking WW3; it seems to be doing just about everything to destroy itself as a nation.
In the case of Iran (or Iraq) if troops began amassing threateningly on our border, I dare say we would not even wait for the build up to be complete before attacking. America is brazenly hypocritical.
Writing to Congress is an exercise in futility, they don't listen to the people. The White House is populated by a dysfunctional family called Bush and their behaviors are childlike. The military is so heavily woven into the fabric of Washington corruption that they can's say no. So what is to stop the madness? Wouldn't it be ironic if the very thing that cleared this continent of Indians would now clear it again, smallpox. It's definitely a mad world.
Remember Israel and the USA are NUKE super powers. To threaten a country that is not such as Iran is a crime and an act of a COWARD. Go ahead Iran launch on then maybe if these COWARDS attack you can defend yourself some.
Hay what will the price be if Iran takes out all the wells in Saudi, Kuwait and Iraq? Is america ready for 25$ a gallon? Think I will buy some oil stocks.
What the Hell is happening to the World? Iran displays a missile defence system, to deter attackers, and our "wise" administrations in the West, take that as proof that Iran has intentions to attack us.
The media is determined to show Iran as "evil" despite the fact that they have not initiated armed conflict against another nation in over three hundred years.
If we (US and UK) back Israel in an attempt to provoke or attack Iran, then we deserve to get "very bloody noses", and after that - assuming this happens - - who knows.
What a sick World!!!
Rueters-losers-Fail to metion the most important tactical weapon Iran has; The SS-N-22 Sunburn, and here is why:
The Shahab (inaccurate in the extreme) is highlighted as a THREAT TO ISRAEL.
Israel bombs Iran.
The (unmentioned in the MSM) SS-N-22 is Russian made and designed to defeat AWACS/AEGIS and SINK US AIRCRAFT CARRIERS.
The SS-N-22 Sunburn is deployed right now in Iran, trained down on the Gulf in multiple hidden, often moved batteries.
A US CARRIER WILL BE SUNK.,
And that IS THE NEW 9-11 WHICH PROPELS US INTO THE OIL FIELDS OF IRAN.
Why would Rueters fail to mention the Sunburn? But highlight the Shahab.
Also, Israel has been lobbying the US congress (and people via tv) to bomb Iran first, for them if you will, and acknowledging any risk to the lives of US troops/Naval personnel would run counter to this Israeli lobbying campaign in America.
But the SS-N-22 is gonna be the star of the show.
"Iran has threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, conduit for about 40 per cent of globally traded oil, if it is attacked. The US military says it will prevent any such action."
The US military is clearly in another state of denial as it was when the leader (George Bush) of our military said, "Mission Accomplished"!
Do you think the price of oil is out of control today? Wait until Iran sends most of its Navy to control Hormuz. The cross-fire will be intense for months and possibly years, preventing any oil from passing through that strait!
With direct reference to "wsws.org" directly above at 5:59pm.
The key phrase here with regard to Obama is "refine my policies based on information
received from our commanders on the ground"
In essence, the military chiefs that he will be talking to during his trip to Iraq are puppets of the Bush administration. They do not know who is going to be elected in November.
Therefore, they can not furnish Obama with information that may tend to support the withdrawal plan that he has been advocating throughout his primary campaign (even if they were not to truthfully support the continuance of our occupation there>
Should McCain be the victor in November, then they would risk putting themselves in the position of "waffling" or "flip-flopping" when once again having to recommend the staying in there to "win" philosophy.
For the life of me, I don't know what the hell all this "win" stuff is about anyway. Didn't anybody pay attention to Bush when he stood on the deck of the U. S. S. Abraham Lincoln in front of the "Mission Accomplished" sign?
That's when the war was over. Since then, we've only had our military being like ducks in a shooting gallery, in the midst of a civil war amongst these religious fanatics. It is rarely even a matter of combat among the various factions; moreso a continuing series of terrorist attacks, suicide bombings, car bombings and the like.
But I have faith in my fellow Americans. If there were enough voters in this country to re-elect George W. Bush in '04 when the whole thing with Saddam having WMD and being involved in 9/11 was already proven to be a sham, surely there are enough of them still out there stupid enough to let John McCain have at least four years to waste some more lives and God knows how many more billions of dollars.
Go ahead, people, PROVE ME WRONG!
Thanks to Halliburton!

Can't the Iranians get it through their heads? ISRAEL is the (only) one that has the "right to defend itself." The world has heard it a million times over by now.
Iran is supposed to roll over and take their beating from the rabid dogs of war without so much as a whimper.
Quoting from the following article -- http://www.wsws.org/articles/2008/jul2008/obam-j09.shtml -- entitled,
"Obama's Swing to Right Sparks Warnings From 'Left Backers'" --
"In the space of barely a week, the candidate (Obama) declared his support for a bill that he will vote for this week legalizing the Bush administration's massive domestic wiretapping program and giving retroactive immunity to the telecom companies that facilitated it; opposed a decision by the US Supreme Court opposing the extension of the death penalty to crimes other than homicide and appealed to the Christian right with a pledge to double funding for "faith-based" programs.
"This embrace of positions associated with the Republican right followed his slavish declaration of support for right-wing Zionism at last month's conference of the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC and a series of bellicose statements regarding Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.
"Finally, on July 3, the candidate held a news conference that many cast as a retreat from his campaign pledge to withdraw US combat troops from Iraq in 16 months after entering the White House. Obama stressed that 'the pace of withdrawal would be dictated by the safety and security of our troops and the need to maintain stability,' while insisting that he would 'continue to refine my policies' based on information he receives from 'our commanders on the ground.' ...
"This position reflects a growing consensus within America's ruling establishment that, whatever the divisions over the 'mistake' of launching the war in the first place, the predatory venture must be made to succeed in the end, furthering 'US interests,' specifically domination over the strategic energy resources of Iraq.
"However, for many of those who, over the course of the more than year-and-a-half-long campaign for the Democratic nomination, portrayed Obama's candidacy as a fundamental change in American politics, the candidate's new 'sensible' approach has apparently come as a shock. ...
"Among the left liberals who have assiduously promoted illusions in Obama, there are those who are deluding themselves and those who work quite consciously to deceive others. ...
"Nothing could more clearly define the politics of cynical opportunism that characterizes the great majority of the so-called left in America. Worshipers of the accomplished fact, they are mesmerized by the supposed immutability of the two-party system and seek to paint the Democratic Party as some vehicle for effecting progressive social change, despite decades of evidence to the contrary. ...
"(Obama's) presidential candidacy has been engineered by a section of the political establishment that sees it as an ideal means of putting a new face on discredited American imperialism and carrying out real but quite limited adjustments in American policy after eight years of the Bush administration. His brief though meteoric political career represents for these forces an empty vessel into which policies are being poured that have nothing to do with peace. ...
"When the candidate (Obama) insists that he has not shifted on Iraq, he is essentially correct. His promise to 'end the war' always envisioned the continuation of the US occupation and the pursuit of the war's original predatory aims. His essential difference with McCain is over whether more troops should be shifted from Iraq to Afghanistan to escalate the US war there and potentially extend it into Pakistan.
"As for domestic policy, the money that has poured into his campaign coffers from Wall Street, **nearly twice the amount donated to his Republican rival John McCain,** is based on the clear understanding that an Obama administration will faithfully serve America's financial oligarchy. (Asterisks added.)
"If the candidate is more openly promoting his right-wing agenda now, it is not in interests of gaining votes. Over two-thirds of the American people want an end to the war and the overwhelming majority is hostile to the Bush administration; he does not have to appeal to some vast right-wing constituency. On the contrary, Obama is making his pitch to the ruling elite, attempting to cast himself as 'presidential,' i.e., someone who is prepared to do whatever it takes to defend the interests of American capitalism, both at home and abroad."

Apparently Iran has been mass producing the Shahabs for some time. They had nine to waste in a tit-for-tat for the Israeli air manuever. How many more do they have? Dozens? Hundreds? In addition, there is speculation Iran has Chinese and Russian cruise missles. Possibly some are state of the art supersonic zig-zagging ship killers.
If Iran is on hair trigger alert and has a use it or lose it anyway attitude, one mistake and Shahabs with 500 or maybe 1000 lb warheads will be falling all over Israel and US bases, and the Navy will be dodging cruise missiles. This is totally irresponsible and stupid on the part of US and Israeli leadership.
If anyone's bothered to pay attention, Iran is already under attack and US troops are on their soil. You can thank the Democratic Congressional leadership for authorizing that.
For those who have not been paying attention, read what Seymour Hersh is reporting.
Hate paying $10 a gallon for gas then thank a Jew. Any Americans who support the fascist government of Israel should be sent to live there. The only thing Israel has ever done for the U.S. is bomb the USS Liberty and subvert Congress through AIPAC.
It is absolutely astonishing that you, "Common Dreams", have not published a comment today on the suggested new "war powers act" concocted by Baker and Christopher, reason enough to be on guard.
Here are two arrogant lawyers who believe that I am too stupid to understand our Constitution hence that they must explain it to me. Hey Baker/Christopher I do not need your expertise. Sure, the old "war powers act" was unconstitutional but so is your Baker-Christopher miscreant. Here is why I think that is the case.
When our country goes to war in consonance with the constitution as it did for example when Hitler declared war on us in 1942 it commits to war not only the entire Federal Government and our Armed Forces but above all it commits "we the people". The President is "commander-in-chief" of the armed forces but he is NOT, I repeat he is NOT the commander-in-chief of "we the people". Hence as commander-in-chief he cannot unilaterally declare war for me because he is the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces but he is NOT MY commander-in-chief. Only Congress can commit "we the people", hence me, to war and the President must obey the instructions of the Congress. If the congress says NO, then there is no war and the NO or YES for that matter must precede any action by the President. The proposed new Baker-Christopher "war powers act" rapes the intent of the "Founding Fathers" who despised and rejected the idea that a President could go to war on his own and ask the Congress for permission afterwards because that would have smacked of an American King George. It is abundantly clear why the two advocate an American King George because that is a perfect way to keep the American society divided into the powerful and powerless.

Damn I hate Reuters… so much misinformation peppered throughout their articles.
"Iran should "refrain from further missile tests if they truly seek to gain the trust of the world,""
IF YOU THINK that that is misinfo. on the part of Reuters, then you evidently are either not a good reader, or else you are the one providing the misinfo. And what you clearly did deliberately choose to selectively OMIT from the short, one-sentence paragraph you copied all but the source identification from is a manner [often], regularly employed by liars, frauds, .... You should have fully copied that sentence.
Reuters did NOT say that Iran should "refrain from ...", for Reuters only said what the White House spokesman said. That's how the 'Iran should' beginning should be interpreted.
Whether or not Reuters agrees with that WH spokesman is definitely not evident in the one-sentence paragraph you quoted from. If Reuters does agree with him, then this definitely should be [explicitly] stated and clear, but Reuters didn't do that, so we don't know whether the writer agrees, or not.
I don't think there's much value with Reuters, for I don't like it as a news provider, but this is a separate matter or concern.
What the article is about bears truths, but also is not about anything new. There have been plenty of reports posted at www.globalresearch.ca over the past year or two, if not even longer, about U.S., Israel, and Iran holding war games or exercises. Some reports were of UK sources; some were from Chinese sources; some from Reuters, AFP, AP, likely IHT, and then others.
Iran hasn't held hundreds of serious or major scale war exercises, but the present one has to be the third or fourth over the past year or two. And all of these have been related to threats from and war exercises by the U.S. and Israel in the same region; well, as for the many, unrelenting threats, then also hellbent European "allies" of the U.S. and Israel, all allied together and against all of Humanity, the World (of Earth).
Iran not folding is a defence for itself, but also for all of Humanity, really; definitely, imo. If Iran folds, then these hellbent U.S., Israeli, and EU "leaders", actually FIENDS married with the Prince of ... Hell, will gain another BIG win for their HEGEMONY, hypocrisy, NWO (New World Order), ..., the kind of project that's of Hell's kind of making.
www.globalresearch.ca has been providing copies of articles, reports, as well as analyses by various contributors to GR, for at least a year, and for war exercises of the U.S., Israel, Iran, Russia, and Russia with other Asian countries; including China and some Central Asian countries. China and Russia are aligned according to two plans or agreements, and other countries are included, but some are aligned only through one of the military agreements, while others are according to the other military alignment plan. Pakistan and India are associated with one or both of these alignment plans, but maybe not fully, and because of their relationships with the U.S. Due to that reason, and possibly an additional one, those two countries have been careful with how they associate with these Asian military alignments.
The two military (and, I guess, also economic) alliances are:
*) Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO); and,
*) Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
The following article says, "Russia will be representing the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The Russians and their allies in the two organizations ....". It also says that the "SCO was jointly created with China and includes several countries which border on Afghanistan.".
http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=8488
More articles can be easily found by doing a Web search and for pieces at Global Research, Counterpunch, and surely other websites, on the SCO and CSTO. Even specifically or directly using Google works well for searching for articles at websites and without specifying the website to search through, but that also returns linked references at other websites. To avoid the latter combined result, we can just use the Google 'site' search tag; f.e., "CSTO SCO site:globalresearch.ca", minus the quotes, and using Google.
I just tested the latter, using the 'site' search tag and for articles at GR; and plenty of links were returned. Also tried for Counterpunch (.org), but only one link was returned.
Do a search for articles on 'war games', 'war exercises', and at GR, and you'll find past articles on such exercises by states other than the U.S. and Israel. But articles there and on the SCO and CSTO do considerably mention some of the war exercises by countries of these two Asian military alliances.
Looks like the worst will happen then.
Bye-bye world...
M E E T _ M R _ C A L L A G H A N,
Perhaps you forgot to add that we all know What birds do do
when they take off
The French said it best. "Cet animal est très méchant. Quand on l'attaque, il se défend."
For the benefit of whoever said up above that they dislike Reuters for its numerous inaccuracies in reporting.
In watching the movie "Message From Reuters" (I think was the title) in which Edward G. Robinson played Julius Reuters, it showed how, previous to using wire services, much of his news was transmitted from continent to continent by means of carrier pigeons.
I guess you could say that the earliest stage of his news service was "Strictly for the birds"
The escalation of tensions in the MiddleEast by the US, the West and their satellite country Israel for decades is annoying. For the "International Community" (read: Imperial powers) the presence of the US warships near Iran and Lebanon, and recent war rehearsals by Israel are not a threat to the peace and security in the MiddleEast, but Iran's testing of missiles is a threat??????
What is happening in the MiddleEast is the execution of the US imperial foreign policy by a group of mostly unelected conservative ideologues. Playing on the imperial associations of the Roman and British empires, they have aimed to lay the foundations for a century of unbroken American political, military, and economic pre-eminence to be known as "Pax Americana".
The US had played a key role in the Middle East since the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)overthrew an elected Iranian government in 1953, replacing it with Shah, a monarch whose universally unpopular reign was terminated in 1979 by the Iranian Revolution. Iran's oil resources were the touchstone for the CIA intervention, even then. US domination of Iran and its oil during Shah's dictotorial reign, together with its partnership with Israel, enabled it to call the shots throughout the Middle East until the Iranian revolution left it without either a regional powerbase or direct control over Middle Eastern energy resources.
In order to reclaim its control over MiddleEastern resources the neo-conservative architects of the Project for a New American Century, such as John Bolton, Dick Cheney, Richard Perle, Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz, undertook a CHRISTIAN GENOCIDAL CRUSADE on Iraq causing death and destruction, pain and misery to millions of innocent Iraqis.
Now by using Iraq as its base the US with the help of its allies and Israel want to strike at Iran.
Long before the US occupied Iraq, France and Britain covertly helped Israel to develop a nuclear capability of about 200 warheads, backed up by sophisticated missiles. Germany is about to provide Israel with nuclear capable submarines. In a worst case scenario, Israel's underwater missiles could wipe much of the Middle East from the map.
The investigative journalist Seymour Hersh recently revealed "an open secret" that the US has been using Afghanistan as a base for training and equipping terrorists and planning and executing subversive activities directed against Iran with a view to bring a "regime change" in Iran, SO THAT IT CAN AGAIN INSTALL A DICTATOR, LIKE SHAH, WHO WILL FECILITATE THE PLUNDER AND CONTROL OF IRAN'S OIL AND NATURAL RESOURCES.
Although the US, the West and Israel are the main destabilizing factors in the region with militarization and weapon-sales, they relentlessly demonize Iran as a malignant cancer threatening regional and world peace.
One final thought: Just think how G8 countries have become economically rich??????
It sure would be nice to lock Bu$h the inferior and Shotgun Dick in a room with the two biggest tough talking Iranians.
It would be funny to watch them all wet their panties when they realized they had to actually back up their words. Bu$h the inferior and Shotgun Dick 'aren't tough enough to run with the dogs so they will have to piss with the puppies.'
(Old saying when I drank and raised a little hell with some college friends about 27 years ago, The Big Moon Saloon, The Flame were a bit rough)
Funny, but I do not recall everybody being so "up in arms" when Israel staged their simulated air attack last month for the purpose of intimidating Iran. This little missile firing episode was just good, clean, harmless fun on the part of the Iranians.
I guess this is what is commonly referred to as the "double standard". If you've got the U. S. kissing Israel's ass and vice versa then everything is just hunky dorey.
Taking our eyes off this for a minute, I see we've got the Turks blaming Al Qaeda for a U. S. embassy attack. The Afghans are suspecting that Pakistan was responsible for the attack on the Indian embassy. Of the two, that would be my preferred scenario. That way, with Pakistan and India both being nuclear powers, they can blow each other the hell off the face of the earth and we've got two less players in the game.
It would really be interesting if Iran got attacked by Israel and/or the U. S. and then interrupted the flow of oil tankers through that strait.
That might raise the price of crude so high that with resulting higher prices at the gas pumps, people might even start getting out of their cars and walking into the bank, drug store or fast-food restaurant. Imagine that if you will.
I think the way the game is being played (at least on our side) is the Bush administration would probably like to see the attack of Iran being left as McCain's first act after being inaugurated. Trouble is, the election's not a sure thing. I guess they could wait and see if OBama gets elected in November; then if he does, they have time between then and January 20th to "do their thing".
I could be wrong, but I consider it doubtful that Israel (while talking tough) would attack Iran without the assurance that the U. S. will take part with them, or at least immediately thereafter.
It will be interesting to see the results of Obama's Middle East trip. I sense that if he does not come off as showing strong enough support for Israel, the next thing would be for the Republicans to say that he's anti-semitic. Sounds too far out? Nothing's too far out in these troubled times.
And where is Condi while she's making all this noise? I haven't seen her on the tube lately.
She doesn't call....she doesn't write.
While Bush threatens Venezuela and Iran, our ally, Pakistan is befriending al Qaeda and the Taliban. With an ally like that, who needs enemies?
K I V A L S,
It'd be too much, as We're getting soaked daily from bu$h!t reigning down on us,
how could we ever deal with all of the extra pig$h!t ?
Iran can live without oil. Can the Zionists' Sugar Daddy?
Cripes, it's over folks. I wouldn't be surprised if cheney was even working with chalibi and Iran to start another "war" to line the pockets of the oil barrens and military contractors. And I'm sick of hearing the words "speculate" or "speculators" or "speculation". These words simply raise the price of oil and/or the chance of war.
Now with Congress passing the FISA bill, cheney can legally spy on us.
KIVALS
i get it alright............i understand that the europeans have to be terrified too into thinking the big bad bogeyman is iran. and dangerous comments like that plant ideas into sheeples' heads...........it's another tactic for assuring the missile defence system in eastern europe.
Do the American people have a right to defend themselves from AIPAC's lobbying? Just wondering as we are the ones who will end up as cannonfodder as we did in Iraq.
coco,
You just don't get it. If the Nazis had not liberated Poland, those Poles would have someday developed long-range missiles and might have attacked the US. And now there is the risk the Iranians could invent flying pigs and then the whole world will be in trouble. You sound like you have yet to step through the looking glass.
and now defense sec. gates has just said that the 'tests' prove tehran is a threat and that they could develop long-range missiles to use against europe.................why would they want to attack europe??? nothing makes sense any more.
>>Some of these countries didn't/don't even have air forces (Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq).<
Vietnam did when we fought the war there. Iraq did till the first war.
>Iraq doesn't even have a standing army! <<
It did when we invaded.
I don't think the argument of one side being at a disadvantage to the other carries much water now or historically.
Stopping war is about believing it is wrong regardless of the force match or disparity. Regardless of what will happen or not to the Iranians or our forces, we should be working to stop this war. Arguing that it won't be *fair* plays into the hands of the imperialists and is ignored by everyone else because no one cares if a war if *fair* or not.
We constantly hear about Israel's "right to defend itself". Does Iran not have the right to defend itself from Israeli and American aggression?
Should anyone be surprised that a political/economic system (that of the USA -- the "Unsane States of Avarice") that consistently rewards and elevates the most unprincipled, avaricious, and dishonest would evolve over time into such a monstrous and mendacious predatory power?
As usual RichM (July 9, 2008 12:35pm) hits the nail on the head.
Of course, needless to say, this 800-pound gorilla sitting in the middle of the room, that is to say, the Democratic Party as well as mainstream media's complicity as regards the War in Iraq and the proposed war with Iran, is something that Senator Obama will assiduously and obediently ignore.
Saint Obama will continue to act as if he's literally "descended from the skies," here to, hallelujah, SAVE US ALL!
(As Nelson Algren once put it: "However do senators get so close to God?")
Obama's cynical and shameless move to the right since he's gotten the nomination will, if he's elected, only get worse. In short, the Democratic leadership, via their presidential nominee, has YET AGAIN played the liberals in America for the suckers they most certainly are. (Talk about enablers!)
So when you go to the polls, loyal liberals, and pull the lever for Obama, keep in mind that should he win, he will undoubtedly continue to pursue America's "imperial ambitions" -- brutal and mass murdering as those imperial ambitions have been and will continue to be. ... Or, put another way: when the dead bodies continue to pile up, just remember the misery, the carnage and the evil *you* voted for.
NOTE: After World War II was over and the concentration camps were liberated, Einsenhower arranged for busloads of German civilians -- housewives, retirees, factory workers, non-military individuals from all walks of life -- to be bused out to Auschwitz, Buchenwald, Treblinka, all the concentrations camps -- so that the average German, the "good Germans" could see up-close-and-personal precisely what their support for German imperialism produced.
Where are the buses now?
If the US government bombs Iran, Iran will be the 21st country the US has bombed since the end of World War Two.
That bears repeating ...
If the US government bombs Iran, Iran will be the 21st country the US has bombed since the end of World War Two.
With many of these bombings lasting for several *years* (e.g., Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Iraq, etc.).
And so the question, by its very nature, reeks of obscenity; that is to say: What other country has bombed so many countries in a similar period of time?
Can you imagine what the US reaction would have been had the Soviet Union bombed as many countries. Or China. Or if twenty "9/11s" had occured in the US over the same period of time.
Notice, too, that the countries the US ruling class bombs are, invariably, third world countries -- with armies that are *dwarfed* in comparison to US military might.
Some of these countries didn't/don't even have air forces (Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq).
Iraq doesn't even have a standing army!
And the US ruling class, via its mainstream media outlets, has the vile, the obscene audacity to talk about "outrageous," "aggressive" behavior.
And where, pray tell, is that savior of the progressive community, "Saint Slick" -- err, I mean, Barack Obama?
Obama, like the rest of the Democratic Party mainstream, is right on board as far as an invasion of Iran is concerned. Commondream readers will remember that several months ago the Senate -- Democrats as well as Republicans -- indicated to Bush that if he goes ahead and invades Iran they won't interfere. ... The Senate to Bush: "Invade if you want to."
So, is it any wonder the Democrats have taken impeachment "off the table." Of course they have; and the reason is simple. The Democratic Party, in their ongoing criminal complicity, are as guilty as the Republicans in prosecuting an unjust, illegal, immoral war in Iraq ... an unjust, illegal and immoral war in Afghanistan ... and perhaps yet a *third* unjust, illegal, immoral war in Iran.
At an international war crimes trial, anyone who voted for the War, Democrat or Republican, would be found guilty. Any first-year international law student would be able to win convictions.
And the ruling class knows it.
Why do you think Bush withdrew the US from the ICC, the International Criminal Court. He and his Republican henchmen -- as well as his Democratic enablers -- know full well that the ICC would nail them in a heartbeat.
The US judges at Nuremberg were quite clear as to what the Nazis' basic, underlying crime was -- the crime from which all other Nazi crimes emanated -- and that crime was the unnecessary, unprovoked invasion of another country.
IN SHORT: THOSE WHO VOTED FOR THE WAR IN IRAQ WOULD BE FOUND GUILTY BY THE VERY STANDARDS ESTABLISHED BY THE US JUDGES AT NUREMBERG IN 1945.
(Continued)
Iran says it will retaliate if attacked.
Now, if we could get Israel and the U.S. to say the same thing and really mean it, maybe we could have some peace. But no, Israel and the U.S. believe in preemptive strikes.
I guess we have to keep repeating this: The U.S. National Intelligence Estimate of 11-07 said Iran gave up on developing nuclear weapons 5 years earlier. Iran is legally entitled to pursue nuclear energy as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. U.S. and Israeli aggressions are about OIL, not nukes. And, of course, other countries cannot speak of "preventive" war, because it's a concept that cannot be universally applied.
Oh, dude. The Blue Pill Media simply loves those pictures of the missiles launching. Are those missiles going to hit YOU? We've asked them nicely to abandon their plans for world domination, and this is how they respond? How DARE they?
Get those Anglophones ready. Thanks to those pictures of missiles launching on every front page, 90% of anglophones will be 20% less surprised, 40% less outraged, and 80% more supportive of the home team when ALL HELL breaks loose.
"Those People" (Terriers? Terrorists? Tourists?) only had wierd weapons like IED's and RPG's and boxcutters and inflatable boats yesterday... Lookee what they got today! Something has to be done! SOON!
A very bad scene is playing out in very slow motion right before your eyes right now. Don't turn on the TV or you may miss it.
WTF July 9th, 2008 1:52 pm:
"Despite what many may think, Iran is not up to a confrontation with US/Israel."
WTF, you are right. They were not up to facing US/Iraq either. After years of being on the receiving end of American poison gas attacks and missile strikes, though, it is a case of adversity making them stronger. No single nation can stand against the "hyperpower" in a war, but "every dog has its day" as they say.
The sad thing is a great proportion of Americans actually feel threatened by Iran.... at home, here in America.
Considering these missles don't even travel the distance of a typical tomahawk cruise missle 700-800 miles.
