Our Revolution Executive Director Reacts to Senate Majority Leader’s Vow to Change Filibuster for Voting Rights

Joseph Geevarghese, executive director of Our Revolution, the largest grassroots funded progressive organization in the country, released the following statement in response to Senator Schumer’s announcement today to change the filibuster rules if the GOP does not advance voting rights by January 17th:

“I applaud the Senate Majority Leader’s vow to protect voting rights at whatever cost necessary. We are finally seeing the strong rhetoric we need, but our grassroots movement will continue fighting until we see not just words but action from a united front to address the GOP’s un-American attacks on our democracy.

The midterms are here, and there is no more time to waste. In just ten months Americans will head to the ballot box to cast their votes, and now is the time to ratify voting rights protections nationwide and ensure Americans no longer need to endure fear, intimidation, and threats from the GOP just to exercise their constitutional rights.

Let me be clear, if we don’t deliver for the American people now, Democrats hold no hope of holding onto majorities in the next Congress.”

Joseph Geevarghese is available to speak to the media and will be closely watching for Senator Schumer’s move on the 17th.

Our Revolution will reclaim democracy for the working people of our country by harnessing the transformative energy of the “political revolution.” Through supporting a new generation of progressive leaders, empowering millions to fight for progressive change and elevating the political consciousness, Our Revolution will transform American politics to make our political and economic systems once again responsive to the needs of working families.

Our Revolution has three intertwined goals: to revitalize American democracy, empower progressive leaders and elevate the political consciousness.
