350.Org on Joe Biden Rejoining Paris Climate Agreement

WASHINGTON

President Joe Biden announced the US will rejoin the Paris climate agreement. This announcement comes as Biden cancels the Keystone XL permit -- a massive Indigenous-led people-powered victory that is energizing demands for the Biden-Harris administration to Build Back Fossil Free.

May Boeve, 350.org Executive Director, said:

"Re-joining the Paris agreement is a vital first step for the US to show global climate leadership, but we need to go beyond that. This is our time to go big.

"After four years wasted, we must redouble our efforts and focus on removing the pillars of support of the fossil fuel economy, in the US and globally, to build a healthy, safe, abundant and just future.

"To be a real Climate President, we urge the Biden administration to Build Back Fossil Free, starting with implementing a climate test to stop all fossil fuel projects and honor Indigenous sovereignty. We commend President Biden for this immediate rejoining, and look forward to growing the global movement to tackle the climate crisis at scale."

In the US, 350.org is part of a growing coalition demanding swift executive actions on day one that prioritize our communities and hold accountable billionaires and polluters, including: (1) Pass a climate test on all new fossil fuel infrastructure; (2) Reject permits for KXL, DAPL and Line 3; (3) Ask Attorney Generals to investigate the fossil fuel industry.

350 is building a future that's just, prosperous, equitable and safe from the effects of the climate crisis. We're an international movement of ordinary people working to end the age of fossil fuels and build a world of community-led renewable energy for all.
